This unassuming spot is for sure a diamond in the rough. It doesn't look like much from the outside (and we almost didn't go in, but we took a chance and are glad we did! The staff is quite friendly and customer focused and the menu is straightforward, but the real joy is in the cooking. It's REALLY good. If you read my other reviews you'll see that I'm not shy about highlighting poor food and bad service. This place was neither of those. It was a little surprised that a place with "roast beef" in its name would be out of roast beef on a Sunday afternoon until the explained that the are closed on Mondays and cook their own roasts (2 a day) and serve until sold out on Sundays so the sandwich meat is fresh when the reopen on Tuesday. Amazing. I had a Baja smash burger and my wife had an Olin smash burger both with caramelized onions. Both were excellent. Fresh - not frozen patties - and it showed. Fries were really good too. I'll be back later in the week to try their roast beef sandwich and see if it lives up to the "legend" name. read more

A cute locals fairly bare-bones diner that reminded us a lot of Bob's Burger's (especially if you go downstairs to the basement/bathroom). Rounded up for friendly service. I was getting really tired of seafood on our New England vacation. I looked up reviews for sandwiches on the way to Bar Harbor. After reading so many positive comments of Legends, I decided to give it a try. Boy, did I luck up! The prime rib is cooked slowly the day before serving. The au jus is homemade with just a touch of horseradish. My only regret is forgetting to ask for provolone. Two different types of fries are available. I opted for the hand cut steak fries. They were delicious and perfectly seasoned. Hubs couldn't believe I was eating roast beef and walked inside. He helped himself to my fries. He's super picky and he loved them. We are staying at a local campground and stopped in for lunch today. We had the small chicken philly sub, a Texas Smashburger and fries. Everything was terrific! Freshly made and delicious. The small sub is huge! The burger was so fresh and tasty. The fries were perfectly crisp. I took photos of the menu posted at the cafe, but the owner said the most current menu is on Toast. She said that the menu varies and Toast will also show if they are out of certain things. The cafe is very clean and the folks running it are really nice. It is always such a joy to find a local family run eatery that is so well run. We will definitely be back when in this area. read more

AMAZING lunch. Got the Baja burger as it was recommended as the most popular menu item. Delicious smash burger with flavor and finesse. My mother bought the Italian sub and said everything was fresh and the roll was soft, she was mopping the homemade (all the sauces seem to be homemade) dressing up as she ate. My grandmother ordered the parm garlic fries which were also delicious, just absolutely wonderful. The cream cheese brownie tasted like a better cosmic brownie which I loved but was not to my family's taste. The server was extremely attentive and even the single chef in the back was tuned into our needs. Excellent experience. The smell of this place literally wafted down the road and was divine. This is an easy stop for a quick bite on the way in or out of Ellsworth. Looks like a little hole in the wall, but it is a hole in the wall with great food! The sandwiches are large, the service is quick and the meats are great. All is cooked to order. The french fries are very good. There are a few tables, all very clean. Great roast beef and amazing steak bomb. We have stopped a couple of times. Very good food and the girl at the counter is super nice and attentive to her customers. The steak bomb is the real deal with an abundance of steak, onions, peppers, mushrooms and salami. I like it with provolone instead of American cheese and substituting that was no problem at all. This would be the perfect sub if they used a regular sub roll, the bread on their roll is softer than I prefer but not enough so to finish the rating at all. We will be back! Thank you. read more

Ever since I've had their food, Legends haunts my dreams. My unconscious hours are permeated by visions of floating Philly subs, whispering into my ears, "Look at our large, deliciously cooked portions!" Then comes a tapping, as if someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. I open the door to see naught but affordable prices and nothing more. I settle back down, fleeting images of bacon cheese tator tots cycling through my mind, then, from the window, comes another tapping, louder than before. I throw open the window to see a double patty burger, wrapped in parchment as if from the days of yore. Oh that first bite, how I wish I could go back and experience it once more. Flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux...then a pickle. The most playful pickle, a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce, then a patty...oh a patty of ground beef so exquisite. This place is amazing. I had heard mixed reviews from people since they opened in ellsworth. I've been wanting to try them out and decided to tonight. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly lady behind the register. It smelled absolutely amazing inside, i ordered a gyro pita and some mozzarella sticks. Wait time was not very long maybe 6-7 minutes. Very cozy feeling inside. Food was fantastic. Have not had mozzarella sticks so crisp and they were not oily at all. The gyro was amazing with no complaints. The only thing i would change there is a bigger menu as the menu to look at is 2 small menu papers taped to the counter but I'm sure that will change in the future. ​​​​​ read more
