The ONLY thing place has is the view. Service was perfunctory. Food was meh. I had a cup of chowder, tasty, thick. Onion rings were terrific. My friend had a lobster roll for $30...it was served on a KAISER roll. Lobster was not tender, plentiful or sweet. What shocked and disturbed me was they charge extra for grilling! Crabmeat grill cheese sandwich was $35, deemed okay. Salad was fresh and good enough. This is a byob and we did bring our own wine...but when we asked for an opener, we were told they didn't have one. Luckily one appeared about the time we were going to ask other patrons. At least the people at other tables were friendly. An ice cream/gelateria was recommended. I'd already downed half a piece of Maine blueberries pie, but we went to have ice cream and then went to the park at the boat dock to watch the Osprey, great blue herons and a couple of other fishermen til the bugs drove us off. I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews for this place because I had a very positive experience. My lobster roll knowledge/experience is not extensive, so maybe I just don't have the same gripes as others who are 'seasoned' in the lobster world. I stopped in while driving back from Acadia National Park as recommended by a friend who visits Maine a lot. I was greeted very quickly by the friendly gentleman working there and had no issues with service. I ordered a traditional lobster roll. The lobster was tender, fresh, and had great flavor. Although I like the traditional style bun better, I did not feel like I got less lobster meat or anything like that and can respect when a place does something different than the norm. One thing is,I did not like the fact it was $5 extra for the grilled option, seems ridiculous at an already $30 price point. Maybe $1-2, sure, not $5. It is $5 extra if you want a side as well. That being said, I still definitely recommend stopping by Perry's Lobster Shack. You will get lunch/dinner with a great view and great food. read more

This is my first yelp review and I got the app just to warn people about this horrid restaurant. First off the food came out very cold my dad's potatoes came with no butter same with his corn. My sisters dish came without a side and it costed us 25$!!!! Talking about that the price was Insane about 90$ dollars for 3 things in total. Now let me move on to the ambiance. First the wait of the line was insane it took 40ms for are food to come and you think it would be nice near sea, but the sun protection is horrid so the sun just shines on your face. The Lobster Shack is a small, BYOB, lobster shack, on a wharf in Surry, Maine. It has no land food. This is a traditional Lobster Shack, like those you will find throughout most of the small inlets and peninsulas, along the coast of Maine. The atmosphere is great. All seating is outside at picnic styles bench and tables. Seating is on a long wharf jutting out into Blue Hill Bay. Together with the salt air, and views of Cadillac Mountain in the background, the aesthetic is sublime. I am not a fan of seafood, but my wife and family are, so I will rate the food based on their descriptions. Food receives thumbs up. The lobster is steamed just right. Corn is tender. Rolls are typical white, soft rolls found in New England. Steamers are good, and receive praise from my family. For those who only eat land food, bring food to bbq, they have a grill for you to use. There is locally made soda to drink, and if you need an alcoholic beverage, BYOB. Dessert is good. Ice cream from Morton's Moo and pie at times. Service is good. Servers are attentive in this casual atmosphere. We have been frequenting this location for years, and always come back. Although I don't eat seafood, I always eat the corn and rolls, with whatever meat dish I brought. This is a great place, and really, the prices and servings are no different than any other lobster shack and pound within the state. We were there last week as we stayed a few miles up the road. The lobster was absolutely the best we have every had and we live near Newport Rhode Island ! The Lobster comes right off the boat at the dock and is so fresh. The young man who owns it is Seth Cote and has the best personality every. the help is friendly and very helpful. Cold food, long wait. Pre ordered once we found out there was a 45 minute wait ahead of us. 45 minutes turned into more than an hour. We preordered with permission from the hostess with 1 party ahead of us. Get seated. There are 10 or so tables. Of course ours had a busted umbrella that almost clocked my wife in the head. Waitress takes our drink order, we tell her about the pre order, she says no problem. Waited ANOTHER 30 minutes. My lobster order shows up, it's not the soft shell I ordered, but a hard shell. I'm told there are no clams so they gave me muscles. This is fine, I'm ok until I realize my food is ice effing cold! Pissed off I just eat the food and pay. The chicken fingers were not crispy, and did not come with fries. The only vegan option was guacamole and chips, which had an odd consistency. The corn was also very good. With a family cabin just down the road, we have been going to Perry's for years for lobster and other seafood, but hadn't taken part in the restaurant experience until this summer. What a treat! The first thing you notice is the amazing view down Union River Bay and on to Mount Desert Island. The place was already quite full, not a difficult feat when you have just a few tables on a pier, but the staff worked quickly to get us seated. A large group had ordered just before we arrived, so the service was a little slow. Understandable, considering the size of the mostly outdoor kitchen. My wife had a full shore dinner with lobster, corn on the cob, steamer clams, etc. everything came out hot, fresh, and delicious! I had a lobster roll filled with huge chunks of clean meat and just enough mayo and lettuce to keep things interesting. We had brought our own drinks, but they had canned soda and some local non alcoholic beverages available. When you need lobster and don't want to wait around in busy Bar Harbor or elsewhere, this is your place to go. This is the best lobster roll I've ever had and I've had quite a few. The bun isn't the normal hot dog style bun, but an actual roll. Soft and buttered. So amazing! The lobster roll was amazing as was the blueberry pie...melt in your mouth. He actually made it curb side service with fresh coffee.

The view was unbelievable as was the food. This is a shack with a brand new pier that juts out into the harbor with seating at picnic tables. The Lobster was unbelievably fresh and caught locally and kept in tanks on premise. I spoke to the chef/owner and told him I was impressed with his food and the time two guys in a tiny kitchen banged out some 6-8 tops ahead of us no problem. He was an affable guy and local and took over the place from his grandparents. I had the lobster roll which was served on a bulky roll instead of a traditional NE split top but obviously fresh and according to chef baked to order for him in Bangor. You can tell fresh and local are not just buzz words on his menu. When it got dark the mosquitos got bad but that's expected and out of their control. I suggest bug spray but otherwise fantastic. read more

This place is the perfect spot for eating lobster! The tables are on a dock, it's byob (you bring your own crackers and cheese, if you want)- casual and low key. The amount of lobster in each was surprisingly small. Also, both us received stale buns. The quality of the lobster was good but there was so little of it that it was overwhelmed by stale bun taste. Great Food! Great Service! Great View! Perry's has it all. No frills - just the perfect, sweet lobster! We used to go all the way to Trenton for lobster. Never again. Perry's will be our go to place from now on. We had the full lobster dinner as well as the lobster roll - while not as great as Red's it was delicious.
