I loved my experience at C-Ray Lobster. This is a traditional lobster shack not too far from downtown Bar Harbor. They have a heated, covered picnic table area in addition to outdoor picnic tables, and some comfy Adirondack chairs around a nice roaring fire pit. I like that this place isn't overly busy, and it has great food and service. On top of that, I think their Lobster Dinner deal for two is an excellent deal. You get two lobsters, two ears of corns, and mussels to share for a very reasonable price. The lobster at C-Rays was a great size, and it was well cooked. First Lobster Shack that we came during our Acadia trip. The first time, we got the Lobster Dinner for Two, which came with Lobsters, mussels, and corn. The food was amazing - the lobster just by itself without the butter was already sweet and tasty. We ended up also coming back for the lobster rolls, which was equally as delicious. (this place's lobster roll and Travelin' Lobster were my favorites) The pie was also really good, though I will say it's a bit on the sweeter side compared to the other places. There's a generous amount of outdoor seating, and also an area to play cornhole and listen to a guy play live music. Came at the end of the season in fall, and they were still going strong with heaters inside tents as well! Amazing place for all things lobster - the food was so delicious that we came here 3 times during our 4 days in the Bar Harbor area. You order at the counter, and food is brought to your table; all seating is outdoors, but there is a heated area when it was chilly even in the summer evening. My favorite lobster roll we had during our Acadia trip! We came here for lunch and there was plenty of parking and seating. You order at the stand and then find a table and they will bring the food out to you. They also have plenty of outdoor space and games like corn hole and frisbee! Now only the food! The lobster was fresh and piled high. The standouts were the roll they used, their bread is house made and perfectly buttered and toasted (versus the hot dog buns many other places make). I also loved the house mayo they tossed the lobster in, had a bit of tartness to it and the perfect complement. Plus the lemon slice given adds a nice bit of acidity and makes the freshness pop. We also enjoyed the clam chowder which was chocked full of goodies like veggies and seafood. I was glad we got it right away and were able to have our soup while we waited for our order. The blueberry pie was the perfect way to end the meal. It was perfectly not too sweet, only wished we got some ice cream to go with it! A nice overall experience. Like most outdoor lobster pounds, you walk up and order your food. In a few minutes a perfectly cooked lobster & corncob dinner arrives. What sets this apart is, you feel like you're at a friend's picnic. Tables are scattered around the manicured property, a fire pit with chairs surrounding it, a baggo board for an impromptu game after dinner. We had a bottle of wine in the car, no problem. We have been on a lobster roll crawl during our visit to Maine. C-Rays is our 5th stop and has been THE BEST we have had. lobster meat to bread ratio is perfect, the side of lemon wedge and side of drawn butter is a great add that no other place has offered. You go up to a little shack where they prepare all the food to order and then you have your choice of where to sit -- outside with several picnic tables, fire pits, or under a large roof with picnic tables. they convert it to "inside" with heaters and plastic covering if it's cold, rainy, and windy. But if you want great food just outside of Bar Harbor this is for you. The lobsters were so fresh and steamed to perfection couldn't get enough of them. So juicy and sweet. The clams were just as good. The blue Barry pie was the best blue berry pie I had in Boston. Crust was flaky and the blue berries were sweet and not overly loaded with sugar/syrup. C-Ray Lobster is legit and a nice change of pace from the restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor, which were definitely more expensive with at least a 30 minute to one hour wait for dinner. It's about 7 miles from downtown and worth a visit! There's plenty of picnic tables to eat your meal at, and even a small covered area with a couple tables. The graveled parking lot was a decent size. Decided on a small lobster bake special, which came with a 1.25lb lobster (pretty meaty and slightly sweet), 1lb mussels, and corn on the cob for $24.99! Earlier for lunch I paid double the price, but it included a cup of clam chowder instead of mussels. What a deal. Everything was so fresh and tasted great. I also tried some of the lobster melt, which was packed with meat. Washed my meal downtown with a blueberry soda (a must try!) and was quite satisfied. C-Ray was the best value lobster dinner I had on Mount Desert by a long shot. The dinners that come with steamers was a lot of food for a pretty decent price. They have a great covered and screened in seating area and the wait in line and for the food was pretty short. I think the lobster was soft shell, I'm certainly not an expert in this yet but it was easier to get through than the other lobsters I had that week. They ran out of whole blueberry pies pretty early so we had to get a couple slices, I wish we were able to get a whole pie because it was delicious. The bathrooms were just porta-potties but they did have real sinks on the outside of the building. Choose C-Ray's last Tuesday quite randomly when looking for a place to have a lobster roll. Not knowing one place from another along the highway, their brightly colored sign with the words "Home Made Pies" is what brought us in. And we were not disappointed. Truly the best lobster roll I'd ever had and a whoopie pie to die for. My friend had the lobster grilled cheese. We washed everything down with the House Wine sauvignon blanc in a can that was quite good. The folks working there were lovely and were clearly enthusiastic about the food they were serving. With good reason. It was delicious. I would love that whoopie pie recipe if they'd care to share it! I'm in Maryland so no need to worry about competition. read more

The trick to finding good food in Bar Harbor is to avoid the downtown area. This place was tucked away just outside of the city. The parking situation is kind of janky, I was worried other customers were going to back into my car when I was waiting in line to order. Service with a smile. The staff is super friendly. We started with a bowl of clam chowder. It was super rich and filled with clam and potatoes. I'm glad I got the bowl and not the cup. Lobster bake for two came with corn, mussels, butter, and of course lobster. Mussels were nothing special but nothing beats buttered corn and lobster. I had a blast cracking claws and eating tail meat. For dessert we had blueberry pie and whoopie pie. Dining is outdoors.
