Not many choices in the area our hotel suggested we try this place. Don't expect fine dining this is a roadside Downeast eatery with local seafood and hamburgers on the menu. A Lobster Roll special was tasty served with a mayo lobster stuffed split roll. For the price the size was right. A Lobster Boil came with a small lobster, very hard shell, which was full. Steamer clams and mussels and an ear of corn. Price was very reasonable compared to the restaurants in Bar Harbor. Dessert of Homemade Blueberry Pie was a little disappointing. Service was very friendly
Recommended by my co-worker and it was worth it. Very busy, but only had to wait for 15-20 ish minutes. The owners and staff were very nice and professional. The menu has a ton of options, but when in Maine....You could really taste the freshness in the lobster and seafood. We ordered the claw dinner (7 lobster claws cooked in butter) came with two sides. The Caesar salad was on point and the Mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy. My husband for the fried seafood sampler (scallops, clams, shrimp, and haddock nuggets) with fries and coleslaw. My son chose the Shore Dinner (steamed lobster, mussels, and clams served with corn and drawn butter). Hands down the best bang for your buck at $32 and delicious. He eat every single bit. Most definitely recommend.
3.5 stars We were staying in an Airbnb nearby and Ruth & Wimpy's was recommended by our hosts. There was no hostess, I stood inside the door with staff walking by me numerous times with no acknowledgement or a, "We'll be right with you." People were steadily coming in after me. Finally a woman who was sitting at a table walked back to the kitchen and yelled, "Hey, you've got people out here!" I'm assuming she was an employee? We were finally sat in the enclosed all season room outside. Our server was very nice, just very slow. If I asked for something (i.e. extra napkins, wipes, etc.) it would take forever. I even had to remind her a few times. No complaints about the food. Lobsters, mussels and clams were all fresh and delicious. Exactly what you want when vacationing in Maine.

I already had bad vibes about this place, and looking at these sad little wings merely confirmed my speculations. But da-YUM. One bite later, and I was a converted man. Like a Christian gone atheist. Looking back, I should have just ordered five plates of wings. Because my pasta was the worst thing that ever happened in modern society. It legit tasted like stale cardboard dry-aged in an old musty attic. Like where you keep your Christmas ornaments and only go once per year, and that regardless of regulation and modern-day awareness, is still somehow lined with asbestos. I think my dad's pasta had the same sauce. And god bless him, he somehow stomached it and ate the whole thing. We had hiked the whole day, so he undoubtedly worked up an appetite. But there's no way he enjoyed it. Maybe in his advanced age his taste buds had mercifully numbed him so he could be spared the horror of this thick, pasty, liquid death. The whole lobster was cooked beyond recognition, and the clams were filled with black, bitter-tasting gunk. And the icing on the cake was having the outside dining area filled with massive cobwebs and crawling with spiders. This place definitely gave me the creepy crawlies. It's hard to enjoy a meal when you can feel the little buggers on your arms and legs every two seconds.
We popped in after dinner one night just for pie. I was craving another slice of blueberry pie ala mode, and Ruth & Wimpy's was the only place in the area open at night that had any. The location is very convenient off a main road, with plentiful parking. We were seated quickly, and put our order in for pie. As we sat, we looked around the décor. I understand it's supposed to be campy and home-style, but the decorations at least in our area, were in a dire need of a dusting and left me questioning hygiene. We also noticed their menu wasn't online so we added it. The pie arrived, and instead of ice cream, was topped with what looked like soft serve, which was odd. The crust tasted very under-baked, and the sweet complexity of the berries were completely masked by a heavy handed cinnamon. Despite the local berry part, this pie could not resurrect our experience and was not in my opinion worth eating. Service was curt, unfriendly, and seemed bothered by us only ordering pie, prices were good but quality was poor. Looking over the menu I understood that what we were hoping for was never going to be met here, but we were hoping for the best anyway. Local fare for locals is what I imagine this place is, and I will not be returning here on my next trip to the area.
This is a great spot to get some fresh lobster and clams! The curly fries was so good, too! Loved how fresh it was, and wish the butter was more buttery. love the interior decor where there were a variety of collectibles from toy vehicles to license plates to memes. Got so much character and vintage vibes!

This is a cute stop by, whimsical diner ish place. It's a mom and pop kind of deal. I had a salad with fresh apple pecans and chicken, waitress brought vinegar and oil . It was great. Honesty fresh and I was happy. My husband ordered the blueberry feta bacon burger and while he was happy to try a new combination it didn't really hit with him. Not their fault it was cooked fine and all that. Fries and lemonade was good. I would go back for lunch again. Get a cute lobster pick outside! read more
Ruth & Wimpy's has more of a diner like feel to it rather than a restaurant. We were 1st Timers tonight, the place definitely caters to an "older crowd" (a 10% Senior discount on Mondays might have been the reason today, because it's Monday). Place was eerily quiet also, just felt that was odd for a restaurant that was nearly full. Only one waitress working this afternoon, she was a bit abrupt in her manner. My wife started things with a Maine's Lobster cocktail -- sorta like a Bloody Mary but with a lobster claw plopped on top. She didn't find it to her liking, the lobster juice they used in the drink basically killed the flavor (least that's what she told me, I had no desire to try it myself). My Mother In Law ordered a bowl of loaded cheeseburger potato soup (was a Special tonight), and my wife had a bowl of clam chowder. Both were very tasty, very good soups. But things went a bit downhill from there. I had a Fried Scallops basket and my wife went with a combo basket of Fried Shrimp & Clams. We both thought our meals were bland, the coating on the seafood mostly fell off when you picked the individual pieces up. My Mother In Law loved her grilled cheese though (she doesn't eat seafood). O well, least she was happy. I had thought about get a dessert when we first entered, but decided against it after feeling things were heading South at that point, so we called it. It was a lackluster experience this afternoon, except for the soups, what more can I say ? A very weak 3 Star rating, IMO. read more
I finally stopped at Ruth & Wimpy's and I'm glad I did. The place has a fun, classic roadside Maine vibe and the staff was friendly. The lobster was fresh and tasty, and the portions were solid for the price. Great spot to grab seafood if you're driving through Hancock or heading toward Bar Harbor. read more

What a fun place - great family restaurant. A big selection of food from seafood to burgers to quesadillas! Service was fast . No complaint. Reasonable prices. Inside and outside seating. If you don't know hat you want to eat - come here! read more

Good food and fair service. Some of our order was cold, but the lobster was hot, fresh, and very well priced. I would eat here again. Surprised they are closed Saturday Sunday and Monday. read more
Not a bad roadside restaurant. Inside and outside dining. Large selection of American and seafood dishes. My fish was tender and flaky. Scallops were quite delicious but not really too many of them. Shrimp were good and there were quite a few. Clams were over cooked to the point the reminded me of the old Snow's Clam crisps that used to come in bags like chips. read more
Ruth and Wimpy's has that old diner style with vinyl booths and cheap tables. There are shelves and shelves of beer bottles, beer steins and cars. The walls are adorned with lots of license plates. Funny sayings have been printed and tacked to the ceiling which were entertaining. Oh, and there is one men's toilet and one women's toilet for the whole restaurant so don't wait til the last minute to go. We arrived around 4:00pm and were seated inside promptly. Then we waited. At least 10 minutes before someone approached our table to take our order. BTW while waiting we became acutely aware of the wait staff saying "corner" every time they went into or out of kitchen. Our booth was right by the kitchen so we heard "corner" every few seconds. It was annoying to say the least. How about fixing the corner??? Anyway, we ordered a couple IPAs and some sodas. For dinner, my sister and husband both ordered the fried haddock basket. Oddly, one came with two pieces of fish and the other only had one. The meal with one piece was on a smaller plate with less french fries. What the??? They were hungry so they just ate it anyway. The thin pieces of haddock were ok but the french fries were cold. My spouse had the very expensive clam chowder and equally expensive buffalo sauce shrimp. Neither of them was good so it was a costly mistake. The chowder was thick with potatoes and clams but was tasteless. The shrimp were spiral shaped, and they all looked exactly the same as if they came frozen from a vendor. The shrimp had no flavor nor did the weird breading. I ordered the 1 1/2 lb lobster and fries. They "messed up" the lobster. I don't know how that was the explanation the waitress gave me. They were nice enough to give me the option of waiting for a new one to be cooked or getting the Lazy Man's Lobster for the same price. I opted for Lazy Man. The rest of the table had their food so I watched them eat while I waited. The lobster arrived in about 5 minutes and the french fries in about 10 minutes (which were the best part as they were fresh and piping hot). The lobster was ok although a bit stringy, and the claw meat had a weird taste like iodine or something. The service was inconsistent, and they left dirty dishes on the table too long. Definitely not their finest hour. We'll take our money elsewhere for our next outing. read more

Such a cool spot! The servers are fun and seem to love their job. The walls are covered with cool decor tags from all over the US. The food-- wow- Ruth got it right! Not sure why wimpy was wimpy with this lady as a cook. She rocks. The lobster was incredible. Macaroni and cheese was awesome. And the desserts are delicious. Check the hours of operation- they have very odd hours of service. But hey, when you can pack the place out- you work when you want. Odd as in Tues-Friday. 2-8pm. No lunch hours. Initially I was going to leave a rating of 4 stars, but I added a final star as I fondly recalled the experience. The ambiance is unique and unassuming, the food plentiful, service friendly, wide selection of menu options, and we're looking forward to going back. What else do you want from a restaurant? Looking for something different, I had the pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich with crispy onion rings on the side. Unusual offering but tasty recommendation by our server. My son had the deep fried shrimp and he gobbled them up hungrily. We didn't try to homemade pies, but there were plenty to choose from. Set your expectations appropriately and if arriving during during mealtime, expect to wait as it is busy, but I wish we had more feel-good places like this in larger cities vs. just another chain restaurant. read more
Ruth & Wimpy's is hidden gem just barely off the beaten path of Acadia. It's actually a nice scenic drive out to the restaurant, and the price/quality/portions of their food is unmatched! We indulged with a bucket of steamed mussels, bucket of steamed clams, stuffed lobster tail, seafood imperial, and fried oysters. Everything was super delicious. The restaurant is also cool and quirky with license plates on the wall and cool Maine memorabilia all over the place. You gotta check this place out! read more
I truly do feel bad giving places less than 3 stars but this is getting 2 stars only because of our friendly server. We are on vacation and wanted a quick bite without having to drive to Bar Harbor and this place caught our eye driving. Unfortunately, we came inside to no greeting or hostess while the sign clearly said "Wait to be seated". We stood there for about 10 minutes as other waitresses just walked right by us. There were plenty of open tables just no one visible to seat us. Finally, one waitress noticed us standing there and brought us to a table. Our server was visibly busy but still took the time to greet us and work quickly to tend to us. I ordered a shrimp po-boy and have to say that it just wasn't good. Way too much high gluten bread and an unappealing battered shrimp. I should have ordered anything lobster related since the restaurants in this area specialize in it. Thank you to our server for smiling and being attentive but to the front of the house...we won't be back. read more

My man and I went to get dinner. We tried this cake for dessert and we loved it. Got our food to go ate that while doing my online classes and the staff was amazing and made it such an awesome anniversary date. Thank you so much love this place. read more

Went for a quick dinner. Boyfriend got fried shrimp with mac n cheese and loved it. I got seafood linguine and felt that it was nothing special and pretty bland. For dessert I got blueberry pie and he got chocolate chip cheesecake. I did not like the blueberry pie at all, it tasted like it was frozen prior to being served, could definitely get better else where. On the other hand, the cheesecake was delicious. read more
Ruth & Wimpy's was recommended to us by a local. We got takeout, so I can't really speak to the atmosphere or service. The lobster roll was my least favorite of my trip to Maine. The price is cheap, but the roll was smaller than the palm of my baby sized hand. The meat was also chewy and tough and there was no lemon to give the roll some zest. The bread was comparable to a hot dog bun, nothing special. The Fried Shrimp Po' Boy was really good, though. The sandwich was overflowing with fried shrimp and topped with lettuce, tomato, and a spicy aioli on ciabatta. We also had a sampler of fried cheese, jalapeño poppers, and fried pickles. Although fried food is so bad for you, this was definitely fried food done right. Hot and crispy, served with sides of ranch and another sauce. I would say skip the lobster roll and order a sandwich and some fried appetizers! read more
