A rainy night on Beacon Hill in a cozy neighborhood restaurant was a wonderful way to top off our 5 nights of Thanksgiving travel & celebrate our anniversary. We were lucky to get a reservation and enjoyed everything about Toscano. Of course just seeing all the older Beacon Hill couples enjoying a later meal added to the experience. Our server was delightful in every way! We had many questions and a few requests that she graciously answered & accommodated. When she noticed an interest in more than one dish she offered a 1/2 & 1/2 plate option! Brilliant way to be able to experience more of the menu. We enjoyed 3 different pastas & one fish The papparadelle bianco bolognese Rigatoni Toscano Rigatoni Norcina The Sea Bass with a side of risotto Shared 2 Caesar salads (perfect portion) Perfect wine pairings per our server's suggestions & a mocktail for our son. The tiramisu was amazing & the added anniversary candle warmed our hearts! Thank you Toscano for delivering hospitality, ambiance and culinary excellence!
Better than most Italian spots anywhere in Boston. Restaurant environment is very nice although can be a bit noisy but hey it's Boston and Italian what do you expect? Servers are attentive and very knowledgeable with any allergies or questions. My party had seafood, nuts, and gluten allergies (we are a fun group I know) but they handled it perfectly. Pro tip here is you can get 1/2 and 1/2 pasta dishes. Don't miss a chance to try multiple! The norcina, bianco bolognese (a rarity), and rigatoni toscano are fantastic. Decent prices too which is always appreciated
Started with a delightful cocktail made the way I requested, then the bruschetta (delicious, fresh, with grilled bread), entrees that satisfied in every way, and service to match.
This is 4.5 star review! My boyfriend and I recently visited Toscano in Beacon Hill and had a lovely experience. We showed up a little earlier than our reservation and were seated immediately. Upon walking to our table, they have a nice (but smaller) bar area with additional dining seating. Our reservation was at 5:45 and that area had plenty of people. We were seated in the dining room which was a nice space. We started off with the four cheese tasting, but in our opinions it could have been better. The truffle honey was slightly overpowering and we wish we could have drizzled/spread the honey ourselves as well as wishing some crostini or crackers included with the tasting. For our entrees I had the Ortolano Risotto which was rich in flavor and very delicious. My boyfriend had the Bistecca Di Filetto with a black truffle sauce that he very much enjoyed and said melts in your mouth. I also had a spritz with dinner that was refreshing and light. The service was exceptional. Everyone is very kind and attentive. We would definitely come back!
This is our favorite spot to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. Top notch service and the food is straight from Tuscany. I recommend the Penne Strascicate with Tuscan meat sauce which is savory delicious and for a great dessert... the panna cotta or the creme brûlée. The ambiance is lovely, soft music and attentive service.
Very impressed with this place for dinner with friends. We had NY reservations at 7 PM and our party of six was seated right away. Our server was right on top of things getting drinks sorted, helping us select a bottle of wine, and taking our order. I ordered the Caesar salad, and was pleased that anchovies came with it if you ask. I had the T-bone steak, which was great, cooked to perfection (med.rate). The sautéed spinach and potatoes were great. I couldn't finish it all, so they gave me a take away container. Great wine, selection, and a TV to watch the football playoffs. Well done everything.
It's a very cozy place and the staff really cares about the restaurant and their guests. My partners steak with the cream sauce was very good. I ordered the Rigatoni Norcina. I was a little confused the menu didn't say it was patte of sausage and I didn't see it in the dish. I think depending on the quality of the sausage it could be great on a given day, but what I tasted could use more umami so it wasn't as knock out as of a dish as the steak, but I don't doubt I would have loved anything else. They cooked their noodles al dente with good quality pasta. The tiramisu had less of a forward marscapone flavor in it, but did have interesting chocolate flavor and texture similar to chocolate mousse. Drinks were solidly good. I had a bees knees and espresso martini they were happy to add baileys to. Good dinner. Spent ~$220 for two...will come back for sure.
Wonderful neighborhood find in Beacon Hill. Local shop owner pointed us here and we had a wonderful dinner. Excellent hostesses, service and food. Everyone was warm and welcoming. We had melon and prosciutto- yummy. Beets salad was delicious. And both of our entrees were excellent - pasta and Sole with brown butter (daily special). Plus dessert of white chocolate and blueberries was delicious. So good!
We showed up to the restaurant without having a reservation but were greeted by the host kindly. We stood outside for about 15 minutes before they were open but they let us in early. Most of us got the restaurant week menu and it's a very good deal. The bread was good and idk what that balsamic vinegar and olive oil was but it's soooo good. I got the smoked salmon: it was good and the olive was interesting but quite salty as the olives are. Rigatoni truffle was pretty good , not too heavy. You get a good whiff of the truffle. Pana cotta was yummy but I was too full! We had a great time. The service was attentive and the place look really nice and classy. Great vibes to catch up with old friends. Definitely take advantage of the restaurant week menu when you can.
WOW! Amazing Italian dining in Boston, walking distance from Harvard Square. Our party of 5 came on a Thursday evening with NO reservations around 7pm and were pleasantly surprised to get a seat on the high top tables adjacent to the bar area and open kitchen. It's a beautiful restaurant with variety of small tables, booths, and longer tables. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Food: DELICIOUS! AMAZING! Fresh made pasta and wonderfully crafted pasta sauces, and proteins. The pictures speak for themselves, and you really cannot go wrong with any choice. So much so that our group each chose a different dish for ourselves and shared a little with each other so we could try as many different dishes. I can't really pick one favorite, since they all were delicious. I would say it depends on what you're looking or hankering for. On this night, I was really drawn to Pappardelle pasta, so that was my choice. But really, if you were looking for a type of pasta like gnocchi or farfalle or rigatoni, or a type of sauce or protein...so many options to meet your needs! A "MUST TRY" in the Boston area for sure!
Really delicious food at Toscano! The pastas were lovely and the restaurant feels rustic and elevated. The round table was lovely for our group!
The service was great! The atmosphere was great and the place was clean. The food was okay but definitely overpriced for what you're getting. Overall 3/5 for the overpriced food.

Toscano never misses! I've been here three times - on a date night, with girlfriends, and with a group of 4. Each time, the food was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful. I highly recommend bringing guests here - you can explore the cute shops on Charles street (don't skip Beacon Hill books & cafe!) and eat some really delicious Italian food. The ambiance is really cozy and comfortable, and the space is bigger than it appears from the outside! When I visited recently with friends, my friend was interested in finding a bottle of red for us that wasn't too expensive and had the juicy/fruit-forward flavors she was looking for. Our waitress brought over their sommelier, who was really patient and helpful and found us the perfect red. For starters, I highly recommend their caprese with burrata and heirloom tomatoes. Their balsamic is also a perfect pairing for this dish! I tried the sopressata pizza, which came out super hot and fresh and melty with a crisp thin crust - perfect! Every pasta I've tried here is incredible. The linguine vongole is a classic, super fresh option, and any of their pastas with their signature sausage is a perfect heartier balance. I like to order one pasta dish each, and the waitress always offers to split our plates with half the pasta each, which makes sharing so easy! I especially love their tagliatelli with sausage and cream sauce. All of their noodles taste homemade as they have a wonderful chew to them and are always cooked to the perfect texture. We've always been too full for dessert, but one day we'll save room to try their tiramisu! read more

Finally getting around to reviewing this old staple on my trips to B-town. I'll preface with the fact that I'm lactose intolerant, and because of that, usually stray away from Italian food, which tends to be cheese heavy. But, don't sleep on Toscano!! The staff here are extremely knowledgeable, amenable and jovial. This translates not only to a great dinning experience but also a flexible food option. Upon finding out about my dietary constraints, I was given several menu recommendations and also they went back to talk the chef to make sure they could still make a delicious dish with those constraints. I landed on their roasted chicken and my dining partner got the pizza. We started with bread and EVOO, of course, which came out fresh and fluffy. Our amazing bartender Andrew dazzled us with a perfect old fashioned and great conversation. The chicken came out exceedingly juicy and flavorful!!! Knocked my socks off! My friend said her pizza was succulent and savory with a perfect crust..and that's a high bar for her, cause she loves and is picky about pizza! Bustling but not too loud, classic and classy, and affordable this is a must visit Italian spot when in town! read more

I WISH I lived in Boston! If I did, I would come here *at least* three days a week! The ambiance is so cool! The lighting, the everything. This is my first time here. I'm only visiting for a few days, but I may just come back a second time while I'm here! Dee was my bartender - so nice and friendly! I had a dirty martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives - amazing! And a Caesar salad - also AMAZING! And the rigatoni Toscano - FREAKING AMAZING and I will be dreaming about it for the rest of my life! Coming here tonight was the best decision of my entire life, and I am totally definitely for sure not being dramatic *at all* heheh Seriously, just come here! I am so glad I did, and I hope I can come back! read more

This might be my new favorite spot in Boston. My husband and I came here for an early dinner and it was absolutely perfect. The location in Beacon Hill and the ambiance inside is a great date night spot. We split several courses and the service was outstanding. I described to our waitress the type of martini I wanted and she asked the bar and came up with a delicious white chocolate martini. She happily split every course for 2 of us. I order bolognese every time I go to an Italian restaurant and this might've been one of my favorites. For the location and food quality, prices weren't bad. We can't wait to return to Toscano! read more

All around amazing food and a great environment. Service was excellent. I asked our server for recommendations on everything simply based on what I was looking for, and he amazed us! Would definitely recommend. read more

The restaurant has a great location and ambiance, the service is nice too. We tried mussels, which were quite good, but pizza was really disappointing. The crust was too dry and the prevailing taste in the quattro formaggi pizza is tomato and mozzarella, which, basically, makes it a margarita. read more
Tina's take: 10/10 Coming from New York we did a double date and this place was great. The restaurant was absolutely Beautiful and the service was amazing. We all ordered wine and instead of appetizers we all shared pasta. The bread was amazing that is given it was so warm and fluffy. The waiter was so nice and professional the whole time. Since two couples were sharing two different pastas he served us with two different bowls instead of just bringing out the two pastas and giving us sharing plates. I thought this was very nice and appreciated. The dinner was amazing with all the waiters recommendations. Also desert was great as well. I totally recommend this place everything was cooked to perfection and the staff was great. read more
A delightful, classy Italian spot! Service is really friendly and excited to discuss the menu. Ambiance is very much the elegance you expect from this kind of upscale Italian, but it feels very natural and unpretentious. There are plenty of great choices but they are most proud of their pasta options. I had the linguine vongole, which was excellent. The sauce and clam complemented the pasta perfectly. For dessert I tried the white chocolate blueberry tart, which was really sweet but exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend this spot for a classy Beacon Hill dinner! read more

Celebrated our anniversary here. The staff, the atmosphere, the food, the wine, all 5 star! Toscano's is the perfect special occasion restaurant! They have a solid wine list, the entrees are all full of complex's flavors. The waiter we had made several recommendations from appetizers to wines, each one was spot on. He also really took the time to get to know our table, without being overly intrusive. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend. Beautiful interior, makes for a nice date night. We had the salsiccia for an appetizer which was very tasty and I would say fairly authentically Italian. The pappardelle bolognese was absolutely delicious. I am a big bolognese guy and I would say this is definitely worth it. The patate al forno was a bit disappointing in my opinion. Not bad, just a bit bland. Would recommend stopping by here for date night. read more

The experience at Toscano was great. I recommend the atmosphere, service and food. The waiter had several people helping him with water, bread and picking up dishes. We got there early while it was and not yet busy and asked to sit near a window and were accommodated. I had the tagliatelle porcini and it was good. I tried my friends lobster risotto and it was great. They take part of the lobster and cook it into the risotto and put it back on the lobster while you can still crack the claws and eat like a lobster. I also had a scallop from my other friends dish and it was very good too. Light and well prepared with sautéed spinach. I should have had the steak but went with pasta. I would come back and try a steak. Bar was cool. It did get busy as the evening progressed but we were not hurried. read more

Upon walking in, we were not at all greeted friendly by Lee. Instead of something like "what brings you here this afternoon" we were greeted with "you can't just get a drink here, you have to eat too according to our licensure" Never once have I been greeted like that in this entire city. Were we dressed "high end" not by first appearance, but we just felt judged. We were dressed to stay warm as we were doing the historic trolley tour and walking a lot on this gloomy day. I'd venture to say my boots cost more than what he makes a week, but whatever. Our bartender Francie more than made up for Lee's rudeness. She was welcoming and so helpful in going over the menu. We ordered Glenlevit 12 & champagne to start. The bruschetta is not served with balsamic (asked for it) The four cheese pizza was her fav so we ordered it. It was just okay. It lacks flavor. Crust, cheese, tomato and arugula is about all that's on it. No basil, sauce, oregano, etc...we were ready for a snack though, so we ate it (before taking the pic obviously). Francie (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) made our time enjoyable. read more

Toscano was a great restaurant! We came for the Dine Out Boston week event, $38 for a prixe fixe menu. One small plate, one larger plate and a dessert. For the small plate I ordered the caprese with burrata, fresh tomatoes, and basil. Delicious! It was light on the basil though, wish it had more. My dining companion ordered the rigatoni - highly recommend. The entrees were solid (ordered the steak and salmon) and dessert was nice (cannoli and tiramisu). Overall we had a nice experience trying a new restaurant for Dine Out Boston, and I would be interested in coming back to try more of the pasta dishes. It was a very beautiful restaurant, with great ambiance. My only complaint was it was quite loud with some of the other diners, and we were seating by the kitchen windows, which left unpleasant lighting over us. read more

Came here for Dine Out Boston! It was $38 for a 3 course meal. We tried the smoked salmon which did not taste as Smokey as I thought it would be but it was still good, the rigatoni pasta (really good!), the beef sirloin (it was more on the dry side and was not really flavorful), the sautéed chicken breast(it was good but I also thought it was a little dry), the tiramisu and the blueberry white tart were good desserts to end dinner with! We also tried their Bellini cocktails which we thought was okay. The service was good, they would take away your plate when you're finished and come out with your next dish without having you to wait too long. read more
What a charming place! Our waitress was very sweet and brought our food out quickly. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and I had a Spritz Aperol. It is the most authentic tasting one I have found here in Boston so far and I highly recommend it. We had the prosciutto and melon which was basic but delicious. We also split a margarita that was amazing and not too greasy. My favorite thing we had was the Carpaccio di Manzo. Overall this place was tasteful, beautiful, and I would definitely come here again! read more
One of the best Italian meals we've ever had. Our first choice that night had a long wait so we came across the street and gave Toscano a try. I'm glad our first option wasn't available because this was the best meal of the trip. Tables were all reserved, but the bar was available so we sat at the bar where the full menu was available. The bartender took good care of us and we had an enjoyable evening. We started with the Caprese which was delicious. The Burrata was creamy and delicious. The tomatoes and basil were fresh. We also ordered Bruschetta which featured the same ingredients and was delicious with a nice crispy bread. My main entrée was the Ortolano Risotto. The risotto and vegetables were perfectly prepared. The dish had a great flavor and the perfect amount of seasoning. I enjoyed this dish very much. Of course as usual my husband picked the stand out entrée. That was the Pappardelle Bolognese Bianco. My husband and I agreed that this was probably the best Bolognese that either of us has had before. It was meaty and delicious. The pasta was nicely prepared as well. For dessert we shared a White Chocolate Blueberry Tart. The tart was buttery and flaky. The white chocolate filling was a nice flavor with the fresh blueberries. I'd definitely recommend this spot if you find yourself in the area and you are looking for great Italian food. read more
