The place was very busy but convenient after a long day at the Hall of Fame Museum. I ordered the scampi and it was not very tasty. It was more like soup and bland. The shrimp was fine but overall the dish was terrible. The rest of the dishes were great! One got an appetizer as a meal. The eggplant rolletini qui delicious. The scallop and shrimp special was outstanding. Scallops were so delicious! And the final puttanesca dish was great. The restaurant comped the scampi and said it was meant to be that soupy. I popped in here for dinner while in town for a business trip on a Tuesday, so it probably helped that there was low traffic. Regardless, I have a feeling I would have had the same excellent experience. Food: excellent variety, great quality, very generous portions. Literally a whole loaf of bread was served with dinner. The menu had plenty to choose from, but I went with a special: sausage and meatballs with eggplant and vodka sauce over angel hair. I'm not usually a fan of angel hair but I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and was so glad that I did! It was enough food for three meals afterward lol. The meatballs and sausage were excellent, but the eggplant was ever so slightly undercooked. Not an issue for me though, given the rest of the dish and evening was awesome Service: hospitable, engaging, and observant. Tiffany was serving me that night and was so patient in helping me choose a dish. She was also very enthusiastic and attentive to everyone else as well, and I couldn't have asked for better service. Environment: cozy and upscale. It is on the main drag so I can't speak to parking since I walked. The outside is unassuming as are most store fronts on Main Street, but the inside had a classic feel of a restaurant that's been in business long enough to absorb food smells into the wood. My family just ate at this lovely restaurant across from the hall of fame. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming , service is excellent and the food is delicious. The eggplant rolletine is the best I've ever had. The Chef's sauce is off the charts great. My husband had the bursts and the fruity Di marre, which he lived. I had the duck, made perfectly with a crispy skin and very flavorful. I live in manhattan and I would put this food up against any one of them. Truly excellent !!! read more

Along Main Street Cooperstown we come upon Toscana, advertised as a Northern Italian Grill. It should be noted there is also a location of the same name in Oneonta under the same ownership. We were greeted by Gina, our server and seated along the left wall, the restaurant setup is deep rectangular with seating on either side of an aisle running all the way back to the kitchen. Decor is pleasant with stone facade along the left wall and wood planking on the right entry. We started with the Escargot bourguignonne and Mozzarella Sticks. My companion throughly enjoyed the Escargot, a nice presentation only exceeded by the flavor. My Mozzarella sticks were very good as well, along with the Pomodoro sauce. The bread was very good, with olive oil blend on each table, we had to request butter which was very hard and unspreadable. Entrée's included the Seafood Crepe and Pasta Carbonara for myself. Companion throughly enjoyed the Crepe, finding the combination of thin eggplant, shrimp and crabmeat in the creamy Reggiano very flavorful. My Pasta Carbonara which I chose with Penne was heavenly and creamy, I did not hope to finish it without being helped outside. Dessert consisted of Tiramisu for companion and Creme Brule for myself. Companion enjoyed the Tiramisu, I like seeing the presentation each time she orders it from different establishments since it's so varied. My Creme Brule was the sole semi disappointment, there was a very nice top crust but I found the tall and deep ramekin not to my liking, preferring a wide shallow one. A local recommended this place to us. Honestly, we didn't expect this! Located across the street from the Hall of Fame, this traditional Italian joint offers a wide range of dishes beyond your typical "red sauce" dishes. Yes, the pasta with Bolognese and Vodka sauce were good, but equally stellar was the eggplant parm, carbonara sauce (nicely smoky though a bit heavy), the chicken scarpariello and the Frutti di Mare. The seafood was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious, even though we're not huge seafood fans. This place is an absolute gem! The waitstaff was excellent as well, despite COVID. read more

Service to us missed the beat several times. 10-15 minutes until we received water and bread, although people seated after us were already ordering. Then 10-15 minutes after ordering our dessert we had to remind the waiter and then it took another 5 minutes. Foodwise, the burrata was cold and not room temperature which is how it's supposed to be served. Otherwise food was decent. Basic spaghetti and meatballs costs $22. A great choice, authentic flavors, friendly and attentive service, and fair prices. We went with and at the recommendation with friends. I have to say, it's some of the best Italian food in the area. You can just tell when the food is made from quality ingredients and by someone who knows what they're doing. In our group of 4, 2 ordered chicken Parmesan and 1 chicken Scarpariello. You could cut the well prepared chicken with your fork and the sauces were amazingly flavorful. The homemade pasta was cooked perfectly. Portions were very generous, we ended up bringing home half. Wish I could give a review of the food - however they can't manage their reservations - I reserved online weeks in advance and called to confirm. Only to show up to a full house with a dozen or so people waiting who also had reservations. This is by far THE BEST food I have had in a long long time. I had the carbonara and my husband had the chicken franchise. From the bread to the dipping oil to the Caesar salad to the entrees we were so so happy!! Tiffany was our server and she was excellent!! Not to mention that she was very busy and had incredibly difficult people next to us. She was pleasant and efficient and a true gem of a server. This fine dining experience is nestled in the picturesque village of Cooperstown surrounded by baseball nostalgia, but one step inside this place and you feel liked you walked into Italy. The dining options on the menu should satisfy everyone's palate and no matter what you choose you'll be delighted by flavors that only a few kitchens can deliver, and this place delivers. I had one of the specials, Haddock Parisienne, and my wife went with the Chicken Marsala off the menu. Absolutely one of the best dishes I've ever had. Of course I tried the other dish....perfection. Many dishes are simple in their list of ingredients- but Tony(owner and chef) adds a great amount of care to ensure a perfectly cooked pasta with delicately delicious sauces. Entrees are served with a fresh warm whole-wheat loaf and seasoned olive oil- excellent olive oil. The seafood crepe-shrimp and crabmeat- wrapped with eggplant is baked with a light cheese and cream sauce. The sweetness of the crab shines and the shrimp's flavor and texture remain constant. Small Italian joint on main st in Cooperstown NY that hits it out of the park. Wandered in on a recent visit with a party of 6 and it was just a great eating experience. A long thin dining room with tables on either side and bare brick walls there was an unmistakable ambiance about Toscana that would have fit right at home back on Federal Hill. Our waitress was professional and very accommodating and the owner likes to wander around his place with a bottle talking up the customers and refilling wine glasses on the house-great touch. The food- i did my old standard test of any italian restaurant where im eating for the first time-spaghetti and meatballs-if you cant get that right its a red flag to me. Toscana does it right. perfect pasta with two large but not ridiculous meatballs ( made with just the right ratio of meat and breadcrumbs) and a delicious red gravy. wow. Just like you imagine. Friend John went with a pesto dish-thumbs up, the deuce opted for the salmon special served with fresh broccoli and garlic mashed-yum. Hacker opted for a ravioli dish stuffed with sauteed rabe and sausage in a pink vodka sauce. The wine flowed the food disappeared and Toscana ends up with 5 stars. Great evening. read more

House wines, at least the red was complex and very drinkable with a generous pour and proffered free top ups. We both had a tasty and fresh green salad. The warm loaf of bread was superb. My lovely wife had a tuna special and I indulged in the frutti de mare. No room for dessert but they looked scrumptious and we noticed other patrons enjoying them. My family traveled to Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, we are visiting from Los Angeles and Texas. I enjoyed the bean soup and pasta combo that had a large meatball, sausage and eggplant. The sauce was delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful too. Went there on Valentine's Day for dinner without a reservation. Though all the tables said reserved, they sat us anyway. That was nice. We had been avoiding the place for months because the windows had advertised burgers and sushi. Thankfully, it was now only Italian. The food was yummy. I had the Veal Serrentano (sp?) which was really good. And HUGE. Had I known, I would have split if with my girlfriend. It was served, I wouldn't say on.. next to?.. a pile of spaghetti (tasted like boxed) in a red sauce that had fresh tomatoes in it. A little weird, but again, the Veal part was the draw and since it was mixed with slices of eggplant, quite tasty. My girlfriend got one of the 9 specials, the Duck Cassis. It had a very sweet sauce that detracted from the fact that the duck was really well cooked. Not dry, quite juicy inside. It was served with steamed broccoli and some baked potato. I agree with the other reviewers. Too many specials. Menu itself was a big long. Even though two sided, just a few too many options. Service was painfully slow. We were in the restaurant for two hours, and we only ordered mains. I think it took close to 45 minutes, if not longer, to get our dishes. A family with multiple kids who were seated there before we were waited at least 30 minutes more after we got there to get their mains. If you have kids, or you did not eat lunch, this would not be the best choice. That said, the food was good, and we will likely return. It's a little on the pricey side (before tax and tip, we spent $47 for two mains, no drinks). But still, tasty. read more

Above average for Italian food, but still needs some refinement. The flavors were great, most things were cooked perfectly, they just need to focus a bit more on execution and service. There was six of us for dinner and service was as good as you might expect as an Italian place in Cooperstown: amusing staff, but not too attentive. The food was really good for the most part. They definitely should think portion control - the amount of food per order was way too much for an average person to consume. Maybe combining the pasta and entree onto one dish would be better. Or, if you do end up going, you can easily split an entree and appetizer for two people - get the caprese and veal. I ordered one of the specials, the lamb, and it was basically raw - it looks like they just seared one side of it and put the rest in the oven to finish, but it was barely even cooked. Overall, if you're in the mood for a family style and/or Italian meal, I would recommend Toscana. Otherwise, you're probably better of at one of the other eateries in Cooperstown. read more

Good meal spoiled by slow service. We enjoyed our meal here, but when we were done we say for a full 25 minutes waiting to pay our check. This amount of time is ridiculous. Even though we were not pressed for time we felt ignored as tables to the left and right of us completed their meals and departed. Just tainted the experience. With regard to the food, our salads were wonderful. I had a caprese salad. While the tomatoes were so-so, the accompaniments - greens, olives, dressing - were sublime. DHOM had the house tossed salad which was also very good. I chose the eggplant rollatini appetizer as my main course, and it was good but bland. Lots of sauce but not much flavor. And no one bothered to offer more cheese. DHOM ordered the carbonara, which for an Italian restaurant was mediocre. The ambiance was the best thing. It is a beautiful little place close to the Hall of Fame. With better service, it would have been a lovely little meal. But having to flag down another table's wait staff and then waiting and waiting to pay our check just made it a negative experience rather than the lovely experience it would have otherwise been. read more

Thank you fellow Yelpers, this was a great recommendation! We were served a warm multigrain baguette with an olive oil/gorgonzola dip right when we sat down. Great start! The waitress recited a long list of specials and we ended up ordering two of them, the veal chop and the frutti di mare, along with a fried calamari appetizer. The veal chop ($38) was bone-in, perfectly cooked, and huge. The chop was probably close to 16oz and about 1.5 inches thick with quite a lot of lot of meat on it. It came with mashed potatoes, spinach, and broccoli. the meat was tender and went really well with the sauce it was served with. I ordered the frutti di mare ($27) with white sauce and linguini (you get a choice of pasta and red or white sauce). This differs from their standard menu zuppa di pesce because it has lobster instead of clams. The seafood in the dish was amazing and in particular, the scallops and shrimps were the highlight of the entire meal. I'd say the calamari was average - not particularly good and definitely not bad; it just didn't shine the way the rest of the meal did. They rings were perfectly crispy and didn't have a ton of batter which was good. The batter itself was not very flavorful and the tomato relish it came with could have been more exciting. A funny thing happened early on in the meal that sort of made this experience extra charming and fun: My husband and I each ordered a glass of red wine - he ordered a red blend and I ordered a merlot. The pours were very heavy on these glasses of wine when they came out. About five minutes after we got them, the host came over and sloshed (literally) wine into both of our glasses and said jovially "so I don't have to come back later." We both stared at each other very confused... What just happened? Are we on the bottomless plan? (No, there's no such thing...). In any case, we definitely didn't have the same wine in our glasses but very much enjoyed the top off! Overall it was a great meal with great atmosphere and service. Prices were very reasonable from a quality and portion-size standpoint. I'm not sure if I'll get back to Cooperstown anytime soon, but this place is worth a visit. read more

My server, I believe his name was Nero(although I can't be certain because I only saw him once), came to take our order and was unseen for the rest of our meal. This seems like the nicest restaurant in the village. Cute decor. Service is super slow. Nice waitresses and hostess but very slow service. In terms of food it was ok. First they didn't have the bottle of wine I requested that was on their wine list. Also I asked for a grappa for dessert and they didn't have any. Weird it being an Italian restaurant. I ordered the pasta amtriciana and it was normal. Good in taste but nothing spectacular. However, it was plenty. They serve good proportions. Lastly, in the beginning. They have this little olive oil with Gorgonzola plate to dip your bread in and ours had a hair in it. Kind of gross. Alex, the owner, greeted us at the door and could not have been more charming and pleasant. He took really good care of us, suggesting wine with dinner, and ensuring that our orders (we ordered the Chicken Parmesan dinner with Angel hair pasta) were cooked to perfection, and they were. Paid a visit after a visit to Busch Opera House and was thoroughly satisfied. There were 3 of us and we ate fairly early on a Monday . We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated promptly, nice hot bread & oil to start. Waitress was friendly and very helpful with wine selections as well as specials. She never got beyond escargot my wife & I shared and her sister (here visiting from Florence, IT.) had a dish of sardines & sautéed veggies that we all got to try & enjoy. Lobster ravioli, shrimp & scallops over linguini was cooked to perfection. A couple of cold Sam Adams and a bottle of wine finished off a very enjoyable dinner. $126 made it even nicer and assured a return visit this week.. read more

We had dinner here on our first day of a Glimmerglass-filled vacation. The food was ample and tasted very good. We had a fish special and the Tuscan pasta, the latter loaded with meat and delicately cut eggplant. I could have eaten it for days! There is a big selection of beers, including some from nearby Ommegang brewery. Service was exceptional. The restaurant seemed a bit on the smaller side, but they were able to get us seats without reservations - we went around 6pm. Two people, shared appetizer, two entrées, two beers came to around $55 before tip. I'm giving five starts because I found myself digging for something to critique. (The size and the weirdly coloured banquette seating? Can't fault too much for that.) read more

We dined on a very quiet Monday night during the off-season at Cooperstown (April 2014). I live in an area with very good italian food on every other street corner, so don't normally seek out Italian restaurants specifically while vacationing. But I am so glad we landed here. Cooperstown does not have a lot of gourmet options, and many are closed on Mondays. The food at Toscana was absolutely incredible. I wanted to personally tell the chef "Thank You" for offering me the option of trying some food that I have never ever tried before. We dined early with two restaurant-raised kids ages 5 and 11. We started with your standard calamari that my husband and son said were great. An order of lemongrass potstickers (Yes, this restaurant says it is a Fusion Grille!); these were amazing. And I got to try the cosican style sardines that were so yummy; I had never had cold marinated sardines before and they were so tasty, melted in my mouth and left it singing with flavors I had never before experienced and were beautifully presented (see my photo). Both the sardines and potstickers were off their Special Menu. Note that they also offered Frogs Legs! For entrees, my youngest son had the kids spaghetti and meatball and I have to tell you that it honestly was one of the best meatballs, I had ever tried--I sensed that it had a mix of ground meats, it was so tender, full of flavor and giant. (Later, I heard from another family that they had sold out of the meatballs). My other son, who is fussy, had plain cheese ravioli that he said were very good. My husband had the osso bucco which he adored in its usual fall-off-the-bone goodness and rich veal and tomato stock broth. (I also heard that they later ran out of this item as well.) For myself, I decided to try another item off their Special Menu labeled simply TILE FISH. I had never had it before, so after our server gave me a good description, I googled to see a picture. Google described it as a thick white fish similar in taste to lobster (aka "poor mans lobster). Well, the fish was wrapped in crab meat and simply sauteed and served over my choice of pasta or I could have selected mashed and veg. I have to tell you that the fish was one of the most incredible fish dishes I have ever tasted, and I could tell that this chef clearly knows how to cook pasta as the sauce formed was almost silken and just glazed the perfectly cooked linguini like it had been finished with some pasta water and was perfect. The crab and fish coated the pasta beautifully. We also had a side of sauteed spinach that was also perfect. For dessert, we couldn't resist the chocolate mousse and creme brulee served in a mug. My husband and son devoured the silken balls of chocolate mousse that appeared to have been dusted with finely shaved cocoa nibs or something elset that resembled ground pepper. And the creme brulee was some of the smoothest I have ever tasted; I was super happy with my choice, but I feel that the more traditional recepticle of a short ramekin would have offered a better ratio of the crispy sugared top to the creme below, but I was not complaining. Our server was a gem as well; very professional and responsive to all my questions. What a terrific gourmet place in the middle of this historic little street full of many American family-friendly restaurants. You must go and experience this chef's masterpieces.
