We had our dogs with us, so we ordered at the bar and they brought out lunch out to the small beer garden. One of the tastiest hamburgers I've ever had--bacon, extra sharp cheddar and a maple syrup glaze on a pretzel bun. Choice of kettle chips, red potato salad or coleslaw as a side. Walked into the taproom and welcomed by the lady behind the bar- who started us off with getting our flights set up. We were sat towards the back in the clock room. Had some great smelling BBQ as we walked in! We ordered the pesto fries as a starter so we could have something to eat with the flight, best choice ever! Of all the places I visited to eat/drink in this town, this one was my favorite spot. We sat at the bar. Taps offered the local selections. We were lucky because they had just finished smoking their chicken wings. They do a dry rub, smoke, then grill after... they are the best wings I've ever had. It wasn't crowded. It seems that many of the diners were locals. There is limited seating inside when you walk in, but they have room for 30-40 people in the rear. There is also seating outside. You'll miss it if you aren't careful! The sis he from the road isn't the best, but the turn in is definitely worth it! The stag was awesome! The manager was so talkative and kind and our server Kyle was really fun! We sat outside. I wish there were umbrellas on a couple of table to offer shade. This is my one star deduction. The patio has potential, but definitely needs work. We tried the mango wheat beer, it was tasty (But it warmed up to fast in the sun.) we also ordered the sweet potato fries and jalapeño fried pickles. Both were excellent. The fried pickles we not spicy, the dipping sauce had a little heat, but not much. The pickle spears were really well fried and we enjoyed the snacks. Council Rock is really off the beaten path, gravel lot, makeshift patio, but the quality is better than the ambiance. Give them a try when in Cooperstown! read more

I had a burger and it was very good! I got it with kettle chips and got plenty of them, but they were pretty much tasteless. The people are quite friendly. Since I was alone, I was kind of encouraged to sit at the bar, which I'd rather not do while eating but not that big a deal. Getting the burger out took quite a long time. I had a Full Nelson beer with lunch and it was excellent. I wish you could buy 4-packs in their store. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but my boyfriend is (I can always find something!) I do love stopping at Breweries as the atmosphere is usually pretty cool and the food is good as well. Council Rock Brewery did not disappoint. We were the first customers of the day (they open at noon). We were able to sit outside at one of the 2 picnic tables they have. Of all the breweries in the area, this is the most no frills, low key spot. Outdoor seating is awful with 3 picnic tables, some under small tent, no ambiance whatsoever. Inside is cute & country, but with Covid restrictions on capacity we felt more comfortable outside. Get a flight. 5 beer flight for $9.50 is awesome. My favs were their lightest beer the Golden Ale and their heaviest boasting over 11% ABV Scotch ale Normally I'm an IPA kinda gal. I did try them both, they were good just nothing special. We had some fried shrimp since King Cuomo has deemed no drinking without food. They were yummy. Came because it's conveniently located up road from our hotel. Don't think I would come back again until Covid restrictions are gone. Would preferred inside with a full meal. But that was our choice. At the end of the day, it's about trying all the local flavors. For that, it's worth a visit. But if you only have time to get to one or 2 breweries, hit Ommegang or Red Shed. Traveling in the area decided to stop for lunch. The place had Good reviews. We had the fish tacos and Gouda burger. With basket of sweet tater tots Tacos were made with Cod and were delicious. My burger was cooked perfectly at Med-rare. Very juicy. I Had red potato salad as my side. The Tots were cooked perfect!! And ended up being the perfect dessert. I had a Cripple creek trippel brew. We were in the area and thought we'd check out Council Rock as they were just down the road from where we were staying. There's a good amount of bar seating, and tables as well. They have a good menu as well as a decent sized beer list as well. We came by on an early Friday evening and were able to grab two bar seats. You can try all 10 beers in a "fleet" for $19 or pay $9.50 for a flight of 5, which is what we decided to do as not all of the beer looked like our taste. So we tried the Golden Ale, Honey Wheat, Maibock, Pacifica IPA, and All American IPA. They were all pretty good but nothing particularly stood out. We also had a sample of the black saison and the English ale, and were glad we didn't try the whole fleet. They say you get a discount if you pay cash, but really I think you just pay more if you pay with card. Service was friendly but also super fast! People were in and out as they were helped and served promptly. We didn't even stay that long, but by the time we left, it was all different people in the place! read more

My husband and I decided to stop before heading back home. We usually never complain and understand things happen. But our experience was not a good one. We had to wait 30 minutes to get our drinks and then to top it off the waiter comes up to us 30 minutes later and lets us know she forgot to put our order in when she took it so others who ordered after us will be getting their food soon. She offered us another drink on her and she felt really bad. We get it. Things happen, but we had a long drive home and the waiting was just too much and to not get our food was the icing on the cake. We decided to take our meals to go and left. Came here based on a recommendation from family after visiting the hall of fame. Burgers were HUGE and delicious. A little pricey (14-15$) but had great flavors. I got the SpurBurger wth cheese, bacon, maple syrup and caramelized green tomatoes, which I refused to put down it was so good. My boyfriend got the Zealous Burger which had mustard, bacon, chipotle sauce and more. The pretzel buns were an excellent choice. Side choices include a cranberry apple slaw, chips, and red potato salad. Extra for fries. Beer was good and had a large variety (10 beers). You can do a 5 beer flight for $9.50, again a little pricey or you can do all 10 for $19. I loved the mango wheat and they made me a shandy of it with lemonade for $5. It was ideal for non-beer drinkers. Service was so nice. We sat right at the bar and food came out quickly. The space is a bit tiny so call ahead if you have a group. Well this was a pleasant surprise/find while we are in Cooperstown. Small with an outdoor patio, but very warm and friendly. They had 10 beers on top when we got there...they sometimes rotate. They brew on site. The options for beers were amazing. You can do a flight (5 beers 5oz pours) or a fleet which is all 10 to taste. We went with the fleet and it was a fantastic option. Our server was Amanda and she was awesome! She was attentive, great personality, and truly genuine and sincere. To be honest we interacted with all the servers and they were a fantastic team. Council Rock is lucky to have them. The food was also unbelievable. We had the French onion soup, mac n cheese, pastrami sandwich with garlic pesto fries and the Brie burger with sweet potato tots. Yummo. My tastebuds were doing backflips. The French onion soup was delicious and packed with just the right amount of onions. Mac n cheese was off the hook with flavor and some bacon pieces. Pastrami sandwich was quite tasty and the garlic pesto fries were fantabulous...a definite must try if you enjoy pesto. The Brie burger was tasty with applewood bacon and apple butter plus the tater tots which they did not skimp on. Well done. If you're in the area it's worth the stop. read more

Went here for Dinner on a Friday night around 6PM, they were able to accommodate 13 of us. We had to wait a while in the bar, but that was ok as they brew their own craft beers. Of the ones I sampled, they were very tasty. Lots of tables in the back room. Once we were seated we all placed our orders. I went with a hamburger on a pretzel roll. I will say to go up one notch on how you usually like it cooked. I asked for Medium and my burger just look like it was slaughtered in the back. I ate most of it as it was very big. Great location from the Holiday Inn Express & The Best Western. They do a fish fry on Friday nights for $12.95. I would definitely recommend and when I am in the area again I will be back. read more

Nine out of ten is always a convincing statistic in marketing. In CRB's case, it applied to the number of beers that we each liked. How did we manage to try so many? We opted to order a Fleet! Surely you've had Flights of beer in the past, and you can get a Flight of 5, 5 oz. samplers here too for $9.50. Or, you can go all in and order the entire Fleet of ten different brews in 5 oz. samplers for $19. And that just seemed like the appropriate thing to do. We tried a couple IPAs, an oatmeal stout, a golden ale, a pale ale, a maibock, a brown, a Scotch ale, a wheat, and the one that we cared for the least, .... their Cripple Creek Trippel. Yes, some of the others were better than another, and maybe not the best we ever had in a particular style. But they were all very drinkable and went well with the food we ordered. Ah yes, the food. We had to try the Sweet Potato Tots ($6) while we waited for our main courses. This large basket of tasty nuggets were excellent with whichever beer we were tasting at that moment. They were served very hot and had a crispy shell with a soft interior of flavorful sweet potato. While quite enjoyable by themselves, my wife was longing for some type of dipping sauce. There were a good dozen sauces listed on the menu, but our server never asked us if we wanted to choose any as we placed our order. My wife ordered the Fish Tacos ($12) - fried cod, lettuce, guacamole, peppadews, scallions, and chipotle aioli on three flour tortillas. Quite tasty and sizeable enough that after the Tots, some of them got to make the ride home. I decided to try the Beer-Braised Bratwurst ($8), braised in brown ale, grilled, topped with caramelized onions and coleslaw, and served on a toasted Kaiser roll. The Brat was really flavorful. I could have eaten several of those without the roll and accoutrements. In fact, the only complaint I may have had was that placing a split brat on a Kaiser roll is like trying to squeeze a square peg through a round hole. That's why they make hot dog buns. Yes, the Kaiser roll was tasty, but a good toasted roll the shape of the brat would have been even better. I substituted their Signature Garlic-Pesto Fries as my side for an additional $3. I'm not a real big pesto fan, but when dealt with a light hand, with the right preparation, I can appreciate the blending of the flavors. I thought the pesto was too heavy for my liking in this case. I had no problem with the garlic part however. But I must also note that the fries were only warm by the time my plate was served. I think they would have been more enjoyable if they were served as hot as the Tots had been served. Once those fries totally cooled, I could barely put my fork into them. It being a Friday, we saw a number of customers ordering a Fish Fry Special. It was a huge piece of haddock served over fries. It actually popped up on Yelp as an offer when I checked in, I just wasn't in the mood for it. It did look inviting though. This is a nice little place worth stopping at if you are passing through the area. There are a few tables in the bar area and the dining room is located on the other side of the kitchen. I had been meaning to stop in here for over a year and I finally got my chance two weeks ago. I came here with a buddy and we sat outside on a nice Saturday night. We got a flight of all their beers and we ordered sandwiches with the garlic pesto fries. Now those fries were really, really good and were easily the best thing we had. I had an andouille sandwich that was okay, but nothing to write home about. The beer was also relatively meh, which was a shame since there are such good breweries around Cooperstown and Council Rock just doesn't hold a candle to the others. I would give this place 3 stars overall if it wasn't for the fact that I got food poisoning after eating here that took me out of commission for 24 hr (not fun). This is a fairly standard brewpub that just doesn't have beer that's good enough to bring me back. I do recommend their garlic pesto fries as they are very tasty, but I wouldn't recommend anything else. The food poisoning was likely a fluke and I wouldn't discourage anyone from coming here based on that. However, I personally won't be back again. read more

We found ourselves in Cooperstown and wanted to visit a brewery or two before heading to dinner. Ommegang was down for renovations, so we decided to randomly stop here. The front room has a small bar area and there's a dining room in the back; since the bar was pretty packed, we opted for the dining room. I bought a flight ($2/taster, $9.50 for 5 or $19 for 10) and very much enjoyed everything I tried, but especially the Leatherstocking Brown Ale (which has apparently won a silver medal at the 2017 Tap NY) and would highly recommend to anyone. So that my non-drinking boyfriend wouldn't feel left out, we ordered a basket of sweet potato tots. The portion was enormous and the tots were delicious, crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. I think they could jazz it up a little bit with some dipping sauces; the tots were good, but I think they could have been great with a trio of sauces - maybe something maple, a raspberry sauce, and one with honey. I am thinking sweet because it would have played off the crispy salty very well. We didn't stay for dinner, but admired everyone else's food, especially the burgers. As we were leaving, Boyfriend said to make sure I save them in Google Maps so we could come back for dinner next time we are in the area. No problem, I said. It was already done. read more
