Nice little restaurant and bar in Cooperstown, NY. We stopped here while visiting the baseball hall of fame. We were sat quickly by a friendly gal at the entrance. Our server greeted us shortly after and took our drink orders. We chose to eat inside as it was borderline too warm outside. They sat us next to the windows so we could people watch. Our food came out quickly. Burger and fries was tasty and a decent amount of food for the meal.

While visiting the National Baseball Hall of Fame, we decided to head here for a late lunch. Our server was great and attentive. I had the "Mel's cosmo" and I can say it was one of the best cosmos I have ever had. We then started with the "Bang Bang Shrimp" app and it was delicious! The shrimp were nice and crispy and came with a yummy pico style topping and tangy sauce. I ordered the Mel's burger with the tater tots which melted in your mouth. My husband ordered the Hanger Frites which I tried and particularly liked the sun-dried tomate pesto which gave the steak a nice tang. If you are in the area I highly encourage you stop into give Mel's at 22!

Mel's was our first stop when we got to Cooperstown. Nice spot, good menu. Everyone was friendly. Place was pretty busy but we got a table quickly. Bathrooms could be cleaner. As far as our food, loved the tater tots! Sandwiches were good and came out quickly. Mels seems to be a go to place in the area.

Went to Mel's for the 1st and it was nice. It was a packed Tuesday evening for their Taco Tuesday night. The interior is well lit and I love that cause I like to see what I'm eating. Our server was nice and friendly. Now let's get to the food. We started out with the calamari app which was good. Not too salty and I like my calamari with banana peppers so it was just to my liking. I had the steak and risotto entree- the risotto was absolutely delicious and had great flavor. The steak however needed seasoning. It was kind of bland. And instead of serving it medium as I requested, it came out more of a medium rare. My husband had the fish tacos which were ok. Typical fish taco but the fish could have used a touch more seasoning. For dessert we had the almond cake (delicious) and pistachio cheesecake (also delicious). I would like to go back to try some of the other things on their menu that I hope will be more flavorful than what we had this 1st time around.

    Wedge salad

We had the wedge salad and it was excellent. The "bowl" of clam chowder (sorry no picture) was more like a cup serving was also good. The special of the day was scallops on top of lobster risotto. The presentation was nice however it was too salty. This is coming from a person that enjoys well seasoned foods but this was pushing my taste buds and probably blood pressure. We informed our waitress of the issue and she returned it to the kitchen for a do over, the redo did not make a difference. We left just having soup and salad.

Driving into Cooperstown to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, I saw Mel's 22 at the corner while at the red light. I was lucky to find a parking spot right away, and decided to check it out. I was looking for a breakfast/brunch kind of place, but they do not have this type of menu. Pub fare plus a full bar menu. I opted for a burger and Iced Coffee. The burger was very good well served with a side salad. The service was attentive.

Awesome food, service, and sidewalk cafe atmosphere. The special was a hand cut ribeye, and was the best beef I have had since before Covid

There is a bar as well as booth seating but no direction or indication of waiting to be seated or seating yourself. I didn't want to go unnoticed so I sat at the bar. (Most of the tables are past the entry way and bar area). There was a family group, a few couples and a group of guys playing darts off to the side. I sat there for more than five minutes before I was even acknowledged. I know this because I could see the Guinness Countdown to St Patrick's Day (down to the second) from my seat. There were 3 girls behind the bar but one seemed to be doing most of the bar work. As I put on my jacket to leave, I finally had the attention of one of the girls so I decided to take my chances and stick with my dinner plan. She got me a menu and asked for my drink order. There weren't any hard ciders on tap but they did have canned Awestruck (local). I noticed the fried pickle appetizer and asked her about it. She told me they were spears and very popular. I decided to take her recommendation and ordered them, along with a Cooley's Handmade Burger with sautéed mushrooms and swiss cheese. My pickle fries came out first since they were an app and I can tell you two things about them...the portion was huge and they were absolutely the best I've ever had! Not long afterward, my burger arrived and that was really tasty as well. I opted to bring the rest of my pickles home and I can tell you that even the next day, with the help of the air fryer, they were still tasting great! I am so glad I stayed!

She offered to bring out a couple dipping sauces for our fries, and I asked for the bourbon jelly, which she was willing to do. That initial interaction set a great tone. The food itself was very good--both burgers were delicious. Unfortunately, after we placed our order, the service dropped off completely. We waited about an hour for our food, with no check-ins, no water refills, and no acknowledgment of the delay, even though our server walked past our table multiple times. At one point, I had to get up and find someone to talk to. I asked a man near the front for a manager, explained we had been waiting an hour, and pointed out our table. No one ever came over afterward to follow up. We were later told there was a large party, which is understandable--but that's not something customers or servers can control. A simple check-in or acknowledgment would have made a big difference. Instead, we were told we "should have said something," despite no one coming to the table. At the end, we waited again for the check, and when my daughter calmly tried to explain our frustration, the server spoke over her and said, "I'm almost 50--I've been doing this since I was 17," which came across as rude and unprofessional. The food was good, but the lack of communication, attentiveness, and management involvement made this a disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, it is no longer appreciated for it's greatness as times have changed. As a Resort Guest, I had the breakfast option which was a great choice to enjoy such elite dining on premises. Convenient and top notch. In the times I visited (July 2021) it was trailing to the end of the COVID nightmare (but before Delta) and the buffet was open and full quality was there. About all a guest could notice was the diligent wearing of masks by staff. The buffet was as good as you can get. Full fruit and Continental options, or hot eggs, meats, potatoes, biscuits, and gravy. And eggs/omelets made to order. The only drawback was that I didn't want to over eat to start the day. needed a second stomach. Upon sitting the wait staff gets any drink you need (coffee/juices) as part of my breakfast included price. I was only brought a check at the end for a gratuity. Some uneven service getting to drinks quickly but it wasn't hard to get their attention if needed. There is a fancy dining room (I dropped a couple of photos) and a nice outdoor patio facing the lake. The outdoor seemed to fill up first albeit the weather was near perfect so can't blame. A point of confusion was logistics and dress code. Upon check in, the desk clerk let me know where it was and strongly advised a reservation and let me know it was fine dining and dress code was appreciated. Not knowing what time I wanted to eat I called late and no answer. I called restaurant services when I woke up and was forwarded to the casual dinner restaurant. I called the desk and had them transfer me, same as just calling, forwarded to casual not answered. No worry, I arrived and they had the guests on a list and it wasn't crowded enough to be an issue. Other thing was dress code. Some things I'd read in the literature was no sports gear, no hats, etc. Since most of the patrons were at the hotel for recreation (kids baseball tournaments, Hall of Fame, etc.) I didn't think wearing a T-shirt and tennis shoes would be an issue. It wasn't. Just don't wear swimwear. At the time I went it was breakfast only. If and when it opens for dinner do not listen to this advice and discuss with the management. Really nothing wrong here, can't withhold even a star. If you stay here, eat here. If the cost is too much, then find a place in your range but you won't beat the quality. This buffet was as good as it gets.

They recently remodeled the exterior, and the adjacent restaurant is pretty good, but each room looks outdated and poorly designed, where they think hanging a colorful photo of the lake is going to make any difference. You'd think they'd have a modern theme, but it was helplessly outdated. There are no cups, no water, and zero personality or hospitality! Some of the hand towels were so old the edges were frayed. The linens were rough, possibly a two thread-count. There's no iron or ironing board in the room! When we asked for an iron, the nice guy in the office said we had to bring our clothes to the office! Wait, what? He allowed us to use this little dark storage backroom to iron our clothes. It was very strange. The point of having an iron in the room is that if you're not sure what you're wearing the next morning, you can iron something else instead at your leisure. With this scenario we had to take four shirts to the office just to have a back up shirt ironed in case one of us wanted another option to wear. The smell in the bedroom was reminiscent of mold, smelly socks, and dirty carpet. Just so unbearable I had to spray cologne in the air just to cover up the smell. The noise from the upstairs was unbearable. I'm writing this review at 1:30am and people are still walking around, and galloping upstairs, and you can hear every footstep and every floorboard creek. At one point earlier tonight, I had to turn around to see if there was someone in the actual room because it sounded like they were right here. When we called to make the reservation, the woman said we could request a second floor when we got here. But why not honor our request when we're requesting it? Why defer us to the time of arrival, where we were told no as if we'd asked for a suite at the Waldorf. We paid $325 for one night, and it will be the last penny they'll ever see from us. I'm giving this establishment two stars because it's a little better than a motel in the middle of nowhere, in the desert, with Jeffrey Dhalmer in the next room. I mean, seriously. What's the point of having a "Lake Front" hotel, if all your guests want to do is jump in the lake and drown in misery!
