    Hummus

Came for lunch and had excellent service and food. Ordered the whipped hummus and it was so refreshing and tasty. I totally enjoyed my butchers blend cheese burger with goat cheese and hand cut fries. Was a big portion and the meat was great quality. My mom ordered the meatloaf which she loved and the just was a total hit. My friend ordered the tofu and she loved the healthy option and it was beautifully plated and filing for a vegetarian dish. We were so full we didn't even order dessert but overall highly recommend. It's very different experience service wise than a few years back when I came. I'd say it's changed for the better and was very please with the staff checking on our needs vs just the waiter. I'm sad we didn't get to sit outside due to bad weather but the inside seating was still nice and classical.

This was my second time dining at the Hawkeye bar and grill- and it was just as good as the first. All of the food is fresh and delicious- while the menu is not very large, anything on the menu is great. I have tried a few of the meals and apps. Everything hit the mark for me and I would go back again! The service is decent enough..and the ambiance is nice. Very cozy, old money feelings. If you are in the area it is worth a checkout!

Steakhouse burger house made Mac and cheese

I brought my daughter here for dinner. I had the steakhouse burger which was awesome with fries which were ok. She ordered from the kids menu and really enjoyed the house made Mac n cheese, which came with a fresh fruit cup and she chose broccoli as her side and then worms and dirt for desert. She enjoyed all of it and finished everything which never happens! We liked it so much we decided to go back the next day even though we weren't staying at the hotel. We ordered the same things except I got the sweet potato fries well done which were much better than the regular fries. We enjoyed it just as much if not more the second time around. Once was for dinner and the second time for lunch. Both were very nice experiences. Also the prices were great in comparison to most places for the quality of food and ambiance. We will absolutely be back!

Empty table no one could use

I really enjoyed staying at the resort, the a Hawkeye was a let down. The service seemed scant which resulted in long waits and snippy service. A group of us wanted to utilize one of the tall tables by the bar but it greatly upset patrons who wanted to sit at the bar and watch football behind us. We asked to shimmy the table out of the way but were told we could not. So we huddled in a corner without enough seating and waited ages for food.

    Halibut

This restaurant is fantastic. Everything we ate there was excellent. I highly recommend the halibut, I had to eat that twice while we were staying there. They also have excellent homemade ice cream! All the servers are very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is amazing, cozy wood pub inside, gorgeous patio over the lake outside. This entire hotel is incredible, I hope to go back one day.

The food at this establishment was ok I will say! My shredded steak was more like ground mystery meat it tasted like a moldy taco. the tomato's on my burger were so slimy it fell apart! The restaurant had a lovely interior although the floor was lined with ice cubes just waiting for an elderly local to slip and fall! But the worst part was by far the SERVICE! My dear 181 year old grandma was forced to sit on a chair so high she developed altitude sickness and required a ladder to climb into it was more like a skyscraper than a chair! The unkind waitress forced us to sit there even though other people sat in the lower area. In conclusion we will not be returning.

Waiting time to be seated was inaccurate. Very slow to be served and not all patrins served at the same time. Some of the food was cold.

There is a bar as well as booth seating but no direction or indication of waiting to be seated or seating yourself. I didn't want to go unnoticed so I sat at the bar. (Most of the tables are past the entry way and bar area). There was a family group, a few couples and a group of guys playing darts off to the side. I sat there for more than five minutes before I was even acknowledged. I know this because I could see the Guinness Countdown to St Patrick's Day (down to the second) from my seat. There were 3 girls behind the bar but one seemed to be doing most of the bar work. As I put on my jacket to leave, I finally had the attention of one of the girls so I decided to take my chances and stick with my dinner plan. She got me a menu and asked for my drink order. There weren't any hard ciders on tap but they did have canned Awestruck (local). I noticed the fried pickle appetizer and asked her about it. She told me they were spears and very popular. I decided to take her recommendation and ordered them, along with a Cooley's Handmade Burger with sautéed mushrooms and swiss cheese. My pickle fries came out first since they were an app and I can tell you two things about them...the portion was huge and they were absolutely the best I've ever had! Not long afterward, my burger arrived and that was really tasty as well. I opted to bring the rest of my pickles home and I can tell you that even the next day, with the help of the air fryer, they were still tasting great! I am so glad I stayed!

She offered to bring out a couple dipping sauces for our fries, and I asked for the bourbon jelly, which she was willing to do. That initial interaction set a great tone. The food itself was very good--both burgers were delicious. Unfortunately, after we placed our order, the service dropped off completely. We waited about an hour for our food, with no check-ins, no water refills, and no acknowledgment of the delay, even though our server walked past our table multiple times. At one point, I had to get up and find someone to talk to. I asked a man near the front for a manager, explained we had been waiting an hour, and pointed out our table. No one ever came over afterward to follow up. We were later told there was a large party, which is understandable--but that's not something customers or servers can control. A simple check-in or acknowledgment would have made a big difference. Instead, we were told we "should have said something," despite no one coming to the table. At the end, we waited again for the check, and when my daughter calmly tried to explain our frustration, the server spoke over her and said, "I'm almost 50--I've been doing this since I was 17," which came across as rude and unprofessional. The food was good, but the lack of communication, attentiveness, and management involvement made this a disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, it is no longer appreciated for it's greatness as times have changed. As a Resort Guest, I had the breakfast option which was a great choice to enjoy such elite dining on premises. Convenient and top notch. In the times I visited (July 2021) it was trailing to the end of the COVID nightmare (but before Delta) and the buffet was open and full quality was there. About all a guest could notice was the diligent wearing of masks by staff. The buffet was as good as you can get. Full fruit and Continental options, or hot eggs, meats, potatoes, biscuits, and gravy. And eggs/omelets made to order. The only drawback was that I didn't want to over eat to start the day. needed a second stomach. Upon sitting the wait staff gets any drink you need (coffee/juices) as part of my breakfast included price. I was only brought a check at the end for a gratuity. Some uneven service getting to drinks quickly but it wasn't hard to get their attention if needed. There is a fancy dining room (I dropped a couple of photos) and a nice outdoor patio facing the lake. The outdoor seemed to fill up first albeit the weather was near perfect so can't blame. A point of confusion was logistics and dress code. Upon check in, the desk clerk let me know where it was and strongly advised a reservation and let me know it was fine dining and dress code was appreciated. Not knowing what time I wanted to eat I called late and no answer. I called restaurant services when I woke up and was forwarded to the casual dinner restaurant. I called the desk and had them transfer me, same as just calling, forwarded to casual not answered. No worry, I arrived and they had the guests on a list and it wasn't crowded enough to be an issue. Other thing was dress code. Some things I'd read in the literature was no sports gear, no hats, etc. Since most of the patrons were at the hotel for recreation (kids baseball tournaments, Hall of Fame, etc.) I didn't think wearing a T-shirt and tennis shoes would be an issue. It wasn't. Just don't wear swimwear. At the time I went it was breakfast only. If and when it opens for dinner do not listen to this advice and discuss with the management. Really nothing wrong here, can't withhold even a star. If you stay here, eat here. If the cost is too much, then find a place in your range but you won't beat the quality. This buffet was as good as it gets.

They recently remodeled the exterior, and the adjacent restaurant is pretty good, but each room looks outdated and poorly designed, where they think hanging a colorful photo of the lake is going to make any difference. You'd think they'd have a modern theme, but it was helplessly outdated. There are no cups, no water, and zero personality or hospitality! Some of the hand towels were so old the edges were frayed. The linens were rough, possibly a two thread-count. There's no iron or ironing board in the room! When we asked for an iron, the nice guy in the office said we had to bring our clothes to the office! Wait, what? He allowed us to use this little dark storage backroom to iron our clothes. It was very strange. The point of having an iron in the room is that if you're not sure what you're wearing the next morning, you can iron something else instead at your leisure. With this scenario we had to take four shirts to the office just to have a back up shirt ironed in case one of us wanted another option to wear. The smell in the bedroom was reminiscent of mold, smelly socks, and dirty carpet. Just so unbearable I had to spray cologne in the air just to cover up the smell. The noise from the upstairs was unbearable. I'm writing this review at 1:30am and people are still walking around, and galloping upstairs, and you can hear every footstep and every floorboard creek. At one point earlier tonight, I had to turn around to see if there was someone in the actual room because it sounded like they were right here. When we called to make the reservation, the woman said we could request a second floor when we got here. But why not honor our request when we're requesting it? Why defer us to the time of arrival, where we were told no as if we'd asked for a suite at the Waldorf. We paid $325 for one night, and it will be the last penny they'll ever see from us. I'm giving this establishment two stars because it's a little better than a motel in the middle of nowhere, in the desert, with Jeffrey Dhalmer in the next room. I mean, seriously. What's the point of having a "Lake Front" hotel, if all your guests want to do is jump in the lake and drown in misery!
