So, we found this place off a reddit thread when re-calibrating our itinerary-- plans had shifted…read moredue to being whelmed by Red Shed Brewing (our fault, they were likely out of a lot due to their Fall Fest which we hadnt known was happening), and another mildly annoying mix-up--after dinner plans got scuppered on Saturday and we decided to check them out. Summary: a lovely night out with good food and lovely ambiance and service, but my socks weren't blown off like other reviewers' were. The review: We were able to call the day before and get a reservation for 2 people at 7:30, and when we showed up, we loved the quaint, cozy renovated old home vibe. It's a modestly upscale restaurant in Cherry Valley, NY, another of the cute small towns in Upstate NY. We did get a couple of the daily specials, so I don't know how truly indicative of the vibes and regular food this review will be. Drinks: I really liked my Manhattan. However, my wife's cocktail, a daily special that we can't remember the name of, was almost cloyingly sweet and had an artificial caramel taste that overpowered the drink for her. We loved our spicy (they had to call it as such for liability purposes, the only spicy thing on the plate was the "medium" spicy salsa accompaniment) Beef Empanadas and Crab cake main. Entrees: to be honest, my seared duck breast special needed a little more grits, definitely a few more brussels, a smidge less sauce (it was balsamic-y an kind of over-powering) and a pass with pepper or something just give it a little bite. The duck was wonderfully tender and the grits were great. My wife also found her Ahi Tuna main nice and fresh but also a bit whelming. When we next find ourselves in Cooperstown, we might pop back up the Cherry Valley and come here. But, simultaneously who knows if our schedules will allow that.

The fish is fantastic. The staff are very friendly and helpful in helping you decide your meal…read more Nothing like eating A meal in a room that could be your grandmother's parlor or living room.

Had dinner here with another couple to celebrate a birthday on a recent Fri night. We were excited…read moreto get a 7 pm reservation with relatively short notice, and by the time we arrived we had already decided on what we would order. First thing to note was that the place was about half full, but there was only one server for the whole restaurant. He was doing his best but was obviously not in the greatest mood, and let us know one of their kitchen folks was out sick and they had called in extra help but were short staffed. He also let us know several of their menu items were not available and others had changed. There were no specials. We had all thought we would get celebratory cocktails, but this restaurant does not have a bar - just beer and wine. We followed through with our orders - 3 spoon roasts and 1 Berkshire pork chop. The spoon roasts were large portions, filled with root vegetables, but only 1 of the 3 plates had a good amount of pot roast; overall we were all disappointed in the dish - despite the large portion size and savory gravy the overall flavor was one dimensional, and 2 of the 3 dishes just did not have enough meat. The Berkshire pork chop was overcooked, very dry, and covered in a kind of sweet ginger glaze which was unexpected and way too much and too sweet. My friend had to scrape off the glaze to tolerate it. The baked potato and green beans were fine. This was obviously not the restaurants best night, but we liked the space and ambiance and would go back again to give them another try. Most likely as they get busier and weather improves their menu offerings and service will improve. They have a great concept and I would like to experience them when everything is going well.

Stopped here for a date night (and alas, no food back in the cabin) on a recent Sunday night. The…read morelast time I was here, a couple of years ago, the space was occupied by a fancy deli/provisions type of business. It's a teeny narrow place, unique for its split level feature, with turn of the century architectural details that have been gussied up with deco-ey metallic wall paper, lighting, and furnishings. It's a very cozy and intimate date-night setting. We enjoyed glasses of Cab and Cotes du Rhone, split a crabcake app, and shared the squid ink linguine and pork chop. Every thing was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The sear on the porkchop was perfection and the pasta was truly phenomenal (I'm guessing it was home made). I'd come back in a heartbeat. The prices were very reasonable for a Catsskills-fancy establishment. Service was casual and friendly. Hope to visit again soon!
