The help was very friendly and accommodating. Had the Prime Rib and Sirloin steak, both were very chewed and un-able to cut. The waitress took those 2 items off the bill and made things right. I will go back and give it another try. read more

Tried this place on a trip and it is a winner! Homemade bread is served when you sit down and it is awesome. Then we started with a wedge salad which was large and had plenty of goodness on top like bacon, hard boiled eggs, & blue cheese crumbles. Next up was the Louisiana nachos which were ok, the chips were a bit salty for me but the sauce on them was good. As an alternative to a side, we tried the New England clam chowder which was outstanding. For the main courses we had the pan fried shrimp scampi over rice which was excellent and a chicken and shrimp Laredo which was a special made with chorizo, peas, scallion, tomatoes and a touch of cream also over rice. Both entrees were excellent. Everything is so good here, you can tell it is freshly made and it is cooked with care. If I am ever back in this area, I would definitely return. read more

We rarely eat out when we are in this area because my father is a chef/excellent cook, we wanted to dine out & were referred to eat here. Hi! I'm back in San Francisco and just wanted to give you guys a big thumbs up. We had 12 of us at our own large table in the bar. It was very fun with many food selection including prime rib which my brother says was the best he's had since "Mom's". I had the broiled scallops very good but not sweet like bay scallops, new England clam chowder & found only one potato all the other chunks were tasty clams..Better than you'll get at Fishermans Warf in SF. All in all the service was super! Very organized & accommodating. I just don't get how they can offer that many food items!! Amazing...The price was right too. read more

We came for baseball tournament and found this awesome place. We didn't have a reservation but the hostess was very nice and seated us at a great table. Celeste was our server. She was awesome! So welcoming and friendly, felt like she'd known us for years. Food was excellent! The beer battered shrimp ranked in my top 2 in taste and size. (I live in Las Vegas and have some great restaurants, but sure wish we had a place like this there.) So the next night we wanted to find a place to eat and decided to go back again since we already knew how great the food was. And Yes, it was just as great! Had a different waitress and she was wonderful as well. I had chicken piccata and again a fantastic choice! All the waitresses were so friendly and worked great together. First of all, our waitress was kind and helpful - I'll give her credit all day. That's where our positive experience ended. We brought our baseball team here for our last dinner together. The manager (?) was incredibly put out and inconvenienced at the thought of seating 20 patrons. She refused to move one table over so the last 4 in our group could sit with us, claiming it was reserved for an incoming party. Our 4 members were seated away from the team, then told it would "be a while" before they were served, basically forcing them to leave. We stayed to finish our meal, visit afterward, and guess what...? That one "reserved" table remained empty. I doubt I'll be back in the area any time soon, but if I do find myself in Oneonta I will absolutely not dine here again. Baseball parents beware! read more

Last dinner out while visiting the area. Very hidden gem in my opinion that serves mostly locals. We had the place almost to ourselves. Seemed odd when we walked in and was asked if we had reservations since it was almost empty but whatever. I had linguini with a shrimp and crab cream sauce that was kick ass. A little heavy on the sauce but I didn't really mind. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinner and we all agreed it was the best meal over the last four days. Michelle our waitress was great! Great casual restaurant, really good food. Warm and cozy setting with a friendly staff. I had a rare Delmonico steak tonight that was perfectly cooked. My salad had poppy seed dressing with crumbly blue cheese (I'll be going back for more of that), it was also very good. My wife had the sirloin and house potato's, her one word review was "awesome". The pricing seems in step with similar restaurants. When I travel I like to go to places "locals" eat, I look for places like Jay's. read more

Came here on the recommendation of a Holiday Inn bartender who looked like she didn't skip any meals. People with some extra padding (myself included) are always the best people to ask for a restaurant recommendation. First things first, central New York prices are on point! You can eat well for much less than in RI/SE Mass. Unless you're local or referred by a local, you will 100% not find Jay's. Tucked into the back of a shopping complex, it's practically hidden. The interior is a little dated, but still nice. The food was very good, the service was fast, and the price was right. If you need more than that, go somewhere else. Here for Cooperstown baseball tournament like many others,Walked in with a party of 14 and were told we couldn't be seated in restaurant.. said we all didn't have to sit together because it was 4 different families, had no problem not sitting together, still was told no and hostess just walked away.. unreal!!! Jan 25, 2017 Jay's Place has a nice atmosphere, it is fitting for a steak house. Its location is a bit hidden since it is behind the building occupied by several outlets. They aren't open very long, so dinner is probably the best option to go for. Mon: 4pm - 9pm Wed - Fri: 4pm - 9pm Sat - Sun: 4:00 pm - 9pm *CLOSED on Tuesdays It can be pricey, though it is a steak house with "premium" food types one would expect to cost a bit more. Started with the clams, unfortunately they were entirely too sandy, each bite was a grinding unpleasant experience. Sand and grit could be seen in the shells. They offered to correct the issue, but the experience was too much to try again. They apologized. Salad was good, croutons were crunchy. Both steaks came out looking great, until slicing into one. Both were ordered medium rare, one was much more on the rare side. They fixed the issue and cooked it further to a much more desirable medium rare. They apologized once again. Overall the steaks were good and had great flavor, aside from the issues mentioned. The one steak was charred, as per the description. Loaded potatoes were also good. Just want to mention a bit of a random thing, the water tasted like water.. As silly as that sounds, some places water in the city tastes pretty bad. Dessert was difficult to enjoy, despite trying to be optimistic. The home made biscuits had a strong flavor that over powered the dish. The toppings seemed fine, but the biscuits seemed doughy (underneath where the sauce had not reached), and the flavor just seemed off and dense. For steaks and potatoes, they did well. You can fix a steak that is under, it does happen. The other things can be hit or miss. Service was good and understanding, the separate "dining room" was nice since they have a bar as well. Food was good! Hostess/Manager was the absolute rudest, unfriendly, woman we have ever met. She refused service to a couple of our other baseball families. Would not recommend this place to anyone while that hostess lady is employed at this place of business! It's only 3 minutes from Cooperstown AllStar Village and we brought a large party to this restaurant around 6pm on a weeknight. The hostess informed us that there was not room for us, when in fact the place was empty. She finally decided to sit us and we told her that there were 4 more people coming. We were told that there was a place for them, but then she decided that their table was "reserved" for another group so she sat them elsewhere. After a few minutes they were told that it would take them a long time to be served, so they left. The table that was "reserved" was STILL empty when we left. They tried everything to NOT serve us. The food was good, but not worth the way the hostess/manager made us feel. Would give a -1 star if possible! read more

Well our first time ever going there the place was packed with people a full house indeed. The food was excellent the staff was very nice and all I can say if you leave there hungry it's your own fault. The meal also came with a salad as well. I haven't been here in years. Sorry, I can't recommend and probably won't go back. First the good. The waitstaff and bartender are nice, friendly and good at their jobs. The food, on the other hand, not so good. We checked out the menu online before we got there. We started with wings, popcorn crawfish and the Louisiana nachos. All 3 were bland/tasteless. My son ordered the prime rib and he enjoyed it. My man got blackened sirloin and liked that. I got the broiled scallopes. Yuk! No flavor, no sear, and not cooked in butter. Just not good. It was great to find a restaurant open on a Monday night and was very grateful for our waitress who was both friendly and helpful while giving us the time and space we needed before ordering. The house Pinot Noir was fine and our food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time cooked as ordered and was very enjoyable. Next time in I will plan on having one of their specials. read more
