4&1/2...WING FOCUSED REVIEW...2 of 2 transcendent chicken experiences I was lucky to have on the same day on my recent trip through Oneonta, where I had attended college for my first 2 years some 20-some years ago. When doing some recon through town I inquired to a local about where I could find the best wings and he immediately named this spot. This jogged my memory back to my college days and the fact it was similarly known at the time. as well as that it was just a little removed both physically and culturally from the college scene and more of a strictly locals place. I took said locals advice and stopped on over and before even entering the place I was very glad I did. My eyes lit up at the awesome converted old train depot setting from which it gets it name. Inside was a welcoming warmly lit interior centered around a handsome old bar which I sidled on up to. My stomach still quite full from my feast at Brooks House of BBQ that afternoon I just ordered my drink and a single order of wings in the house specialty "garbage sauce" an umami rich amaglamation of various sauces and they were nothing short of magnificent. Perfectly proportioned and flavorful crisp on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. A delicious reminder of how much better in general wings are upstate than back home in the City. I savored every bite. The meal was made all the more enjoyable by striking up an enjoyably meandering with a gregarious Vietnam vet proud grandpa seated beside me and were both well served and treated by the lovely bartender. Much of the other food I saw being brought out looked quite tasty as well but what really caught my eye was the super thick square cut pizza, which seemed to be on most every table. It seems to be a relative of both the nearby regional vartieties of the Old-Forge style pizza found across the PA border near Scranton, and the "Hot Pie" of the greater Binghamton/Tri-Cities area even closer afield. More than enough to spark some serious intrigue in a pizza freak like myself and a top priority for me to order when I hopefully get another chance to visit here, of course alongside another order of those incredible wings. read more

A party of 4, having made reservations, we went on Valentines Day (evening). We weren't informed that they had a different, much smaller menu with no provision to order from the normal menu. Three of the four meals were fine. Unfortunately my husband order the 10oz NY strip (an eye popping $28!) He thought he was playing it safe by ordering it medium. When the waitress brought his meal out she said she was waiting for him to cut into the steak to make sure it was to his order. Good thing because it was the rarest piece of meat we'd ever seen! Raw inside! She took the steak back and had them put it back on the grill (her words). Unfortunately when it came back out nearly 20 minutes later after the rest of us had already started, it was still barely medium rare! She offered to take it back and put it back on the grill (again!) but he was so frustrated he told her to leave it and he'd take it home and cook it himself. Sadly after cooking the next evening the majority of the meat was either fat or gristle so the 10oz steak ended up to be about 3oz of edible meat! We've been to other restaurants where an entree has been l poorly cooked, etc. and in each case the restaurant has always comped the meal. The salt in the wound was the waitress only offered to comp our dessert (just my husband and I!) Instead of rightfully comping the $28 meal they comped a $4 dessert. Our experience wasn't bad enough to keep us from going back but we'd definitely recommend to the restaurant that, if they're using a special menu they should've made sure to advertise that or let us know when we made reservations. Additionally, in an obvious screw up like this, always comp the meal! read more

There are so many delicious options to choose from! The garbage sauce is worth trying for sure. We had a salad & a burger & the fries are so good! I would definitely recommend a reservation, but even if you show up, the staff is so kind and orderly that you won't mind waiting. Judy and her staff went above and beyond to host our baseball team during our CASV trip. We had to reschedule several times due to our fluctuating baseball schedule, and Judy jumped through hoops to host our party of 50. Once there, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The staff took great care of us and our boys and the entire afternoon was seamless. I highly recommend visiting The Depot when you are in town. I do not recommend this restaurant, especially if you are a person of color. I would give this place zero stars if I could! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was unwelcoming, and we immediately sensed discriminatory behavior. We came from California for our son's Cooperstown baseball tournament. We arrived as a party of five and were told there would be a 45-minute wait. We agreed to wait. The hostess then informed us that due to a large party of 30, our food would be further delayed. We still agreed to wait. However, shortly after, a party of three--who arrived after us--was seated before us. When a table for five became available, I inquired if we could be seated there. The hostess claimed it was reserved, yet that table remained empty throughout our visit. Eventually, after seeing that we were not leaving, she seated us in a back room completely separate from other guests. Even my children noticed and questioned why everyone else was seated in the main dining area while we were isolated. The food was subpar and barely touched. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that two staff members kept entering the room throughout our meal, seemingly monitoring us as if we were a threat or would leave without paying. This was one of the most disheartening dining experiences I've ever had. The level of disrespect and racial bias was undeniable. I share this in hopes that others won't be subjected to the same treatment. read more

We found this spot as a good, family-friendly option while in town for my son's Cooperstown All-Star Village tournament. I had the chicken Caesar wrap and my nephew had a cheeseburger. The service was fast and friendly and the ambiance was fine, but not fancy. There was a team dinner being held in the back room when we were there, so it's great for that. read more

We Visited on Saturday July 6 and sign said "take out only" Tiffany greated us and let us know We were welcome to sit and order but could be a Little while since she was working alone. She had several other tables as well as us but was very attentive and friendly. She answered our questions and we were super happy with our selections! "Garbage" is their signature wing sauce flavor and it was delicious, as well as their mild and garlic Parmesan sauce. We wanted fries but when she asked if we wanted to try the sweet potato tots, we couldn't resist. They were amazing! To end, Tiffany sang happy bday to my mom iand brought a delicious "birthday cake" chocolate mousse dessert. A friend and I ordered a pizza to go. When we got it to my house, we discovered that it was some weird style--not round, but instead a thick crust in a rectangle cut into 6 pieces. There was a lot of sauce, but NO CHEESE AT ALL. What kind of pizza has no mozzarella? Basically, just bread with mediocre sauce, and the toppings we'd ordered, which were buried under the sauce so you couldn't taste them at all. We paid $20 for this, each ate one piece, and threw the rest out. It wasn't even worth keeping for leftovers. Never again. read more

The food was great, as well as our server who went above and beyond, but the person who greeted us asked if we had a reservation. When I said no, she acted inconvenienced stating there would be a wait. I indicated we would wait. She then grabbed menus and we were seated immediately, practically with hostility. It was early and the restaurant had lots of available tables and didn't fill up while we were there. I would not recommend this restaurant! We patiently waited for at least 39 mins before anyone even talked to us and asked how big our party was. Then waited another 20 mins to be seated even though there were many open tables! Even after being seated we patiently waited to take our order and just sat there for another 25 minutes and not one server came to wait on us. People walked in and were seated and orders taken while we sat there and waited. Finally my family and I just walked out and still not one person talked to us. I never been discriminated against like that in my life and my kids were asking how come they just ignore us! If only I can give this place 0 stars. What a disaster!! Had our team dinner reserved for 530 and had to change to 6 due to game delay and they were super friendly and accommodating about it. There were 52 of us split between 3 tables in the upstairs with a sign clearly stating 30 person max occupancy. Right from the get go the waitress had a bit of an attitude but I get it, it was LOUD, over packed and tight. Fine. We all order our meals. At about 7:00 the first round of meals came out for the 1 table, with any other salads that were an app. At 7:30, 2 tables still had nothing but a drink. When asked about it, we got a "sorry our system went down, we're working on it, dont know how long". She came back with 2 baskets of bread to hold us over. At 8:30 we had 13 starving ball players, their 8 younger siblings, and a table full of parents still without food!! 8:45 the teams food began rolling out. Thats about when a few of us left. The waitress came back practically in TEARS, because her manager was basically making her be the "bad guy" and wouldnt do it himself!! TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! Absolutely horrible service! Was assigned a training waitress for dinner. She was nice but not ready for tables yet. The person who was training her never came over to check on the table. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive, wings and burgers. Tables seated after us were getting their food before us. I asked why and she gave some shitty excuse. Eventually half our food arrived after a long wait. Still missing sides and sauces. The training waitress spilled a drink on the table next to us and didn't apologize. Popped in for the 1st time after a movie and capped off the night with a great experience. Service was excellent and the food was as well. Due to the awards, we started with the wings and understand why they have some recognition. Went with the French Dip and The Crossing Burger. Both were fabulous. Aus jus was flavorful. I haven't been to the depot in a few years, mostly due to Covid. When I finally got comfortable with going out to dinner, I went there, hoping for an experience similar to what I had had there in the past what a disappointment! Instead of a full menu of dinners, the depot has deteriorated into a hamburger place and the hamburgers weren't that good in fact they were terrible. We made a reservation and asked for a specific table. This had not been a problem in the past but today it seemed to be a problem for the waitress , who had a very poor attitude. So between the poor service and the poor menu, I don't think we'll be going back after being one of our favorite spots in the past. Also, I'm not that crazy about looking at an open bathroom door while I'm having dinner. read more

Lunch at The Depot was planned, and we were glad we did. We were seated immediately by the friendly staff, brought water right away, and offered drinks. The menu had a great number of selections, from which I chose French Dip. The ladies chose the Garbage Wrap for our daughter and Meatball Pharm for Meg. Side salads all around topped off the meal. Everything was delightful. All three of us were pleased and completely satisfied. The Garbage Wrap was more than our daughter could handle at one sitting, so she took half home. We had The Depot's Key Lime Pie for desert. I won't try to describe it, but you really need to try it yourself and see. Delicious! I definitely recommend The Depot for lunch, and wouldn't be surprised if it was just as good for dinner. My four stars shouldn't fool you. This is an excellent dining experience that likely deserves five, but that would require a return visit. One more thing. We bought 2 bottles of their proprietary Garbage Sauce. I've been to the Depot several times over the years and always loved the food and service. I've been there three times in the last few months and the food was subpar at best. it took a very long time to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant or to even be acknowledged by staff. wait staff was friendly but again took a very long time to order and for the food to arrive. Two out of the three visits I ordered the same appetizer and it was not cooked, was cold and had to be sent back so again taking forever to come back. This is so disappointing, I've always loved the Depot. read more

The Depot is one of those spots that you have to stop by if you're in the area, to simply say you did. Try their garbage wings. I like the place, but I'm not crazy about it. It used to be packed during wing nights, but covid times have changed it all. Their food is good if you're hungover on a Sunday and hanging out at home, order as a big group. I saw the reviews and it said to make reservations. I tried calling but kept getting a busy signal which is quite rare these days. I tried several times and still a busy signal. I felt like I was back in time in the 90's before call waiting... we decided to go anyway, since it was early not yet 6pm. We walked in and no one greeted us, we just stood there for what felt like way too long. It was busy but not packed. There were several empty tables. Its a downer to say the least when you are standing and waiting and servers keep walking by and completely ignore us. We almost turned around and left since we felt invisible. Finally a server seated us near the back by the restrooms. He was a decent server. My husband ordered the veggie burger and he loved it. I ordered the French dip and a cup of Italian wedding soup for my side. It was all delicious. The bread tasted fresh but the ratio of bread to meat was too much, luckily it sopped up the au jus, but I felt like it was a little too much bread for me. And the Swiss cheese wasn't melted and the crispy onion straws were on the lite side. I still enjoyed the sandwich and it hit the spot but I definitely have had better elsewhere. It was merely a roast beef sandwich with Swiss cheese and it was barely warm. My son wanted to order the pizza but we didnt t realize it was the upside down pizza, luckily our server let us know it wasn't typical pizza. My kid didn't want to risk not liking it and so ended up getting the cheese sticks and calamari. The calamari wasn't fresh. You could barely taste the squid, mainly crunchy breading. So that was a disappointment. Other than that it was a casual dining spot. Nothing special, lots of families. Burgers looked good. I would come back for that. Apps at the Depot are amazing! I absolutely love their spin dip and of course their garbage wings. The place is also very clean. I was just underwhelmed by atmosphere at the bar. We randomly found The Depot while searching for places to eat in the local area. We were very pleased with everything we experienced from the fun atmosphere, delicious found & amazing staff. Tiffany the manager even went out of her way to show us the private dining room that they use for big groups as we had informed her we were in town for the week for baseball. She said we could reserve the room with advance notice. Our waitress Mariah was so friendly and had wonderful recommendations when we asked about the menu and beer choices.
