You will come here for the food and stay for the ambience ! The food was just delicious - we shared a roast beef sandwich with chips and the fruit plate. We each enjoyed the Garden Salad with balsamic vinaigrette! I don't believe there is anything on this menu that is not so yummy ! The building is just wonderful in every nook and cranny of both the floors. Come inside on the bottom floor and enjoy the walk up that beautiful old staircase. Put it this way... the food at Yellow Deli was very delicious, we ate it for lunch and dinner. We dined at the Oneonta location, which was quiet and clean. The service was great dining in, and they are open on certain days until 3am. Dine out, however, must be done in person at this location. Phone orders are not allowed. This was a bit of an inconvenience, and I waited 35 minutes for our complete order. Overall, I would return and dine in at the Yellow Deli in Oneonta. On a recent trip for my son's baseball, we ended up at The Yellow Deli many times. This was partly due to out games ending late sometimes, but also because we loved it! When you first walk in, you feel like you are stepping into a movie set honestly. There is folk music playing, the decor made me almost feel like I was walking into The Shire, and the staff was very friendly (though a little odd, but not in a bad way). One night, there were a few people that came in that were interesting characters and the staff chatted away with them. They didn't hurry them or act in any way like they wanted to move on. It was nice to see as it's not something I see often at home. I tried several of their sandwiches, the chili, a few drinks, and the carrot cake. Everything was very good! The drinks all tasted fresh and didn't taste overly sweet. The sandwiches were all fresh and just the right size. The only thing I didn't love was the steamed bread. I think next time, I would ask to not have it steamed. My favorite thing; however, was the chili. I got it on every visit. I got the bowl of chili on two visits and cups the rest of the time. The chili had a nice balance of meat to veggies while also tasting great. The bread with the bowl was amazing. It was a jalapeno bread (I believe) and went well with the chili. Oh my god this place is amazing. The prices are good and reasonable and you can get basically anything from the menu that's sandwich related. Also the food is just good it tastes high quality and it was the perfect temperature. The staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met and gave us the perfect amount of time to decide what to eat/ drink. They were all very friendly and even gave us a free cookie. My final thing is the look of the restaurant, it looks very classic and like a cozy cottage and the music perfectly fits that the decor is amazing and there's a ton of seats in the restaurant. Chili is also a big hit. I do not think I've ever had something that I did not like. Root beer on draft comes in a big nice chilled mug, and is delicious. To be honest I have not tried a lot of their teas and all that on the drink menu, but they look tasty. Customer service is strange, sometimes they'll ignore you for a while, or maybe even forget about you, but just wave them down. It's here that we'd sit planning our trip to Mordor, my precious. So now after this last visit to the hinterland I have added another lovely little eatery to my list of Oneonta lovely eateries. I will not name the other ones for as those who read this are interested in here, not there, but I'm just saying that Oneonta for me has a disproportion of tasty places for such a wee town. Yellow Deli was interesting for a variety of reasons. The Middle Earthian vibe and the mission gives one food for the head whilst repasting on food for the belly, a combination not encountered most places. Mi madre being mi madre desired to engage the soft spoken fellow who fed us and for a while there was the back and forth but she started it and there was no proselytizing on his part so we all left happy and no chairs were overturned thank goodness. She got a free slice of pound cake for her troubles and we all had a bite and didn't see any deity 45 minutes after and being that most of the others were not as practiced at this it was for the best. it was just yummy pound cake. Sandwiches, salad and soup were enjoyed by all. The chili on the table behind me looked delicious. There are a couple of highly recommended dishes but I can't remember what they are. The food is great; they serve nearly everything from soup and tea to sandwiches and desserts. Everything is fresh, well prepared, and served in a timely manner. Staff are friendly (as they have to be), and prices are low. There is also the allure that you're open 24hrs every day except Friday/Saturday(their sabbath). If you're looking for a quick bite and don't mind cognitive dissonance then this is your place. Now for the tough part: this establishment while charming on the outside is run by a cult called the "twelve tribes". They treat women and minorities as second class citizens and, worst of all, practice both child labor and encourage child abuse. After learning about their cult I cannot ever patronize another yellow deli with a clear conscience, knowing that the money earned goes to fund such an oppressive ideology.
