Sat at the bar - had a delicious watermelon, beet and feta salad. Citrus vinaigrette was delicious and just the right amount. Nice size salad as well. This place is absolutely amazing, I had the best Mac and cheese and I also had the best appetizers ever. Food tastes very fresh and the drinks are very tropical. It's very cute and cozy. The workers are very amazing, they make sure to ask if you have any allergy's which I found very helpful. It's not very busy(surprisingly knowing the food is so good). My family and I will 100% percent be coming back soon. They also have a very big selection of alcohol for anyone wondering. This place deserves a higher rating in yelp. read more

We came right at opening and staff was friendly as they were setting up. We each got BLTs and they were great in both serving and flavor. A wonderful twist of fate got us to The Autumn Cafe. Some of the recent reviews had us pick another established restaurant in town. Once we got there we discovered that they didn't have the vegetarian selections that their Yelp menus had listed. Then on the way to a pizza place on Main St we walked by the cafe and decided to ignore the reviews that had scared us off - thank goodness that we did. We started with the Fries with gravy - hard to mess that up, and it was quite good. For entrees, The Famous Hot Open Veggie and Classic Reubens Tempeh were outstanding. Extremely flavorful (especially the open veggie). You would think they were a strictly vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Prices, including the bar tab were very reasonable. I'm not sure when I'll be in Oneonta again but I'll be making a beeline to The Autumn Cafe before my stay is over. read more

I just love this place! This was my second visit, and it did not disappoint. Granted, we have a connection with owners and bartender, but I doubt anyone would receive any less wonderful service and excellent food/drink. We weren't originally going to have food on this stop, but time ticked away and we needed a snack. "Best nachos I've ever had," said my husband, and I would agree. The service and ambiance was good but I avoid this place because somethings usually wrong whenever I eat there. I broke precedent because it was St. Patrick's Day and they were serving corned beef and cabbage. It was a generous serving of corned beef but you couldn't find the cabbage on my plate with a magnifying glass, especially annoying because the cabbage should have been the most generous (and cheapest) portion of the meal. The bread should be made largely with flour and water, but this stuff had the look and texture of corn bread. Maybe it wasn't corn bread but it might as well have been -- kind of limp and soggy not dry and a little crunchy the way it's supposed to be. When i asked for a side of cabbage they refused. With a tip and cocktail the whole thing set me back the better part of 50 bucks. Yet another unhappy experience at the Autumn Cafe. read more

I've been coming here for over 40 years. I've always enjoyed the food and ambience. When the place changed hands the new management managed to keep the original feel while adding new dishes. So very satisfied even with the price jump. However lately the service has become a problem. For example today we were not served a crumb of food until a full hour after arriving. The waitperson was not particularly friendly and offered no bread or anything during the wait. We looked around and almost no one on the outside deck had any food. When the waitperson was asked about the delay she said there was a big table that was being served Reuben's. Really? That caused a huge delay. This wasn't a one-off experience. The delayed food service has happened for our last few visits. Seriously don't think I'll be returning soon. Too bad bc the food itself is very good. read more

I understand that on Sunday you may have to wait for your server during brunch but our server was not attentive at all. We waited for drinks and our meal. And when one of our party had a question about his huevos rancheros, that he couldn't fine the tortilla, she disagreed and said there was definitely tortillas in the dish. Well he couldn't find them. Went to Autumn Cafe while in for one of the local 12U week long tournaments. We were seated almost immediately on the patio. When seated, we were seated in a 2 person table between two other tables. We were maybe 2 feet from each table. This was pretty awkward. On each side were individuals fully engaged in conversations. It made it difficult and awkward to talk. I ordered a salad. We also tried the egg rolls and pot stickers. The food took a very long time to be served. It was around 45 minutes for a salad and two appetizers. When the salad came, my steak was perfectly cooked. The salad tasted great, but all of the dressing was in the middle. With the steak also in the middle, this made the salad super soggy for about half the meal. As for the appetizers, the egg rolls were fine. The sauce was interesting, but tasted decent. The pot stickers were weird. They had a flavor I can't describe. It was almost like old basalmic vinegar. The pork was a hard clump. When you bit in, the meat came out right away. It forced you to eat in one bite. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back. I think the food is fine, but that's it. The service was also way too slow. When leaving, it looked like they had 1 cook for the entire place. read more

Great little cafe style restaurant with amazing specials. This place has a very eclectic approach to assembling each entrée. The Pan seared Halibut over a bed of asparagus in the creamy curry sauce was delicious and the scallops over veggie risotto my friend got look amazing as well. We dined indoors, and unfortunately, halfway through our meal, a roach crawled across our table. Due to an allergy, I couldn't have the sauce that accompanied my dish, which made the food very dry. A substitution would have been appreciated. Potato chips were overcooked lacking salt and flavor. Fries were under cooked. Mushroom burger was mushy and gritty. The drink was good. No air conditioning inside. The menu on the website differs from what is available in person and lacked a lot of options. Overall, we will not be returning. read more

It's been awhile since I have brunched at The Autumn. My husband and I went this morning and it was delicious! We both had eggs Benedict. His with steak and mine with the pork belly. Our breakfasts were absolutely delectable--exquisite! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals--each came with a side of roasted potatoes, asparagus and tomatoes--yum! All cooked perfectly. Additionally my husband had a Bloody Mary. His favorite drink to accompany a most delicious meal. We highly recommended The Autumn--it's a gem and the atmosphere is perfect. I would not recommend Autum Cafe. We had a party of 11. When we asked for more than one menu, the waitress was rude and acted as if it was an imposition to provide them. We moved a chair from another, non-occupied table and the waitress again was rude indicating that was not ok and that we had to put the unused chair back. We were also told that we couldn't order anything additional at the table because they had a reservation coming in, which they did not tell us about in advance. I hadn't even finished my drink and they started clearing the table. We tried to move outside but the furniture was damp from rain earlier that day. No one would try to assist with a towel or napkin even to try and dry the seats so that our party could move. We felt pretty unwelcome and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting, especially not baseball families. They don't want you there and it is painfully obvious. read more

A dreadfully disappointing experience that time kept us away for 2-3 years until we thought we'd give it another go tonight. After sitting at our table completely unacknowledged for about 10 minutes, we asked the bar tender if we needed to go to the counter to order; she said no and proceeded to take our orders. I so want to love this place. It's local. The building it's in is great. The menu is good. The servers are very nice. But I have two issues with it. First, I never know what I'm going to get. I have had an excellent meal there, then gone back a few weeks later and had something so profoundly "meh" that I wrote it off. Tried again a long time later, again, "meh." But a friend went in the meantime and raved. So what's up with that? Second, pandemic precautions feel like the bare minimum. I understand the pressures of trying to keep a business alive -- I do. I sympathize. But asking for masks at the door, then packing tables together just as they've always been while people remove masks once they sit? Dangerous. And their outdoor dining option is gone, now that cold weather is here. We are in an area of low vax rates. We asked to be put as far away from the crowd as they could, but it felt like we were all tempting fate. I went to a different area restaurant that requires proof of vax at the door last night. I love this place. I have been patronizing this establishment for over 30 years. I started eating there when I was a college student. My favorite dish is the hot open veggie with tofu. I am not a vegetarian and rarely ever order a vegetarian dish, however, there is always an exception. And this dish has been an all time favorite of mine for over 30 years. The autumn cafe holds a special place in my heart for all the great memories from my college days. Spent a lot of time there, enjoyed great meals and live music! I try and visit there at least 2 times a year. The last few times we ate here the food hasn't been great. Kind of gone downhill. Even the fries were way over cooked and looking sad. I've put off writing them a review cuz of how poor the service can be a lot of times. I still and will always love the autumn and probably come back and give it another chance hoping it will somehow redeem itself. I sure hope so! read more

My wife and I have been coming to the Autumn for twenty years and like other reviewers have stated, we never know what to expect. The food is generally very good, but the service is consistently bad! It's not uncommon to wait 45-hour for food to arrive. Servers, with the lone exception, are inattentive, defensive when you ask a question, and do not fill water unless you ask. Restaurant is not clean. This is a shame because there are very few dining options in Oneonta, and the menu and food are usually quite good. Today we went in for Sunday brunch and I wish that we hadn't. It took over an hour for our food to arrive and we were given multiple excuses and received a passive aggressive apology when we asked about the delay. The omelet that I ordered was runny, the vegetables greasy, and both of our water glasses were dirty. We were told that our meal would be "comped" but were only given a 10% discount. Not sure what is going on with the Autumn, but we'll think twice before returning which is a shame because the food is good and there are few decent dining options in Oneonta. read more

Five of us ate a late lunch at 3pm and the food was especially delicious. Two of us loved the burgers because the meat tasted so good. I loved my steak tacos also because the steak was so flavorful. The only downside was the slow service. There were not a lot of customers in the place at that time of day so we were all surprised at how long it took to get our drinks initially, then our food as well. The Autumn has been one of Oneonta, NY's best restaurants for decades. Despite a change in ownership, it has remained an excellent place to dine. The pressed tin ceilings, wooden floors, and oak paneling and bar lend a long-ago feel to the interior. Local art work is on display, and the music is fun without killing your eardrums. The servers are friendly and fun to chat with. The food is sensational and the specials are amazing. Interesting use of spices and flavors. I love the warm steak salad with caramelized onions, warm cherry tomatoes, crumbled bacon and blue cheese with a pear bourbon dressing. Are you hungry yet? The tofu satay is an incredible appetizer. The carrot cake never disappoints. Hands down, one of my fav places to go. Add the B-Side to the list and I'm all set! read more
