Others you must wait for, but that makes your heart grow fonder. Main attribute that lies beneath the visible veneer of happy is a felt sense that the folks that own and run the establishment care about their customers and the patron experience. At Governor's Tavern, if you want a gin and tonic, you simply ask for a gin and tonic. The only decision you need to make is which gin you'd like. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but I appreciate that not every place feels the need to reinvent the wheel. The place was packed at lunchtime, but we got lucky and grabbed a pair of seats across from the bar. The server who I quoted was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Guinness, but unfortunately the keg had just kicked. She recommended the Samuel Smith chocolate stout instead and even brought me a sample before I committed to taste since I never heard of it, which was a nice touch. For food, we ordered the State Grill burger and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, and each came with Belgian-style hand-cut fries. If you're spending the day browsing the boutiques and antique shops along Warren Street and want a drink, a good meal, and a lively mix of locals and tourists, Governor's Tavern is worth a stop.

The beers are always very well balanced, always gentle with a very distinct flavor (if you can imagine that), and always served with a smile. Try the Belgian Peach, if they have it. Or the midnight lager, which is a similar darkness to a Guinness, but you don't have to chew it. The (forgive me, I've forgotten what they named it) jalapeño beer is most definitely worth your time, if you're into that slight burn in your throat and belly. I've heard they to some excellent hard seltzers, too, but I'm always too excited to try the new beers to actually drink any seltzer. And when you're ready to eat, 2 Dogz has partnered with a BBQ joint worthy of being served with the best brewery in the area: Red Rock. The food here is legitimately delicious, not "just good" for a restaurant near the ski resort. We sat outside on the upper deck with a nice mountain view.
