A no frills staple in the middle of the main drag of Cooperstown. Get there early as parking can be rough. We took our son for breakfast as he stayed with us overnight as he needed a break from the barracks at Dreamspark. He is 13 now and we are there not only last year,, but 12 years ago as well and it still hasn't changed. Very casual, just how I like it. Quarters are tight but enough room to be comfortable. Service was quick and friendly. I got the Georgia eggs which was on a biscuit with sausage gravy. A meal that will keep you full until dinner. I also got a side of corned beef hash. My son went with pancakes and eggs which he said was "good. " He is a child of very few words and would never survive on Yelp. The sausage gravy was very good. Eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered them (over easy). Corned beef hash was average. It's a must go to when in town. Soak it up and be a part of history. If you have to wait, be patient. I tried to go there today 8/21/26, the disheveled, multicolored haired waitress came out and said "what do you want"... I was caught off guard but I proceeded to tell her I wanted a tuna melt, she then asked what I wanted with it, so I asked what were the options. We ate here the Monday morning after induction weekend. It wasn't crowded, we got a table right away. Waitress came over in a reasonable amount of time and took our order. This is when it all started to unravel, first she brought over the wrong order and couldn't understand that it wasn't our order. The food came about 5 minutes later, ( she did fill our coffee once), she put it down and left right away, not asking if we needed anything else. Well I wanted butter, my daughter didn't get her toast and the Swiss cheese she ordered on her omelette was nonexistent. I got her attention and she said she would be right there, well 20 minutes passed, we all finished our breakfast. Then we waited another ten minutes for her to give us the check.( I looked it over) I told her that the cheese was on the bill but not on the omelette. She says " Oh Shoot " and that we would not be charged but didn't change the bill and said they were short staffed. The whole experience at the diner was frustrating and disappointing! Not that it matters to anyone because my little review will not change anything, but just had to say my peace. read more

We stumbled across this little gem looking for a breakfast/lunch spot this morning. The Cooperstown Diner epitomizes hole in the wall. It's very small but worth the short wait for a table. It has one cook & one waiter in there who still operate off of hand written tickets & from what my wife & I could tell doing a great job! My wife had a BLT with tater tots. The toast was not soggy, the bacon was crisp, the lettuce was good & the tomato was nice & ripe which made for a great sandwich. The tater tots were cooked perfectly as well very crispy. On my HUGE 2/3 of a pound burger which was all in one patty it was actually cooked perfectly which truly surprised me because cooking something that size is NOT easy. It was tender & not dry at all. The cheese was good as well. The fries could have been crispier but that's very minor. We highly recommend this place if you are in the Cooperstown area looking for lunch or breakfast! read more

Came here while on vacation to the Cooperstown area. I have numerous food sensitivities so menu selection didn't really mean much to me but hubby really scored! He got biscuits and gravy - and topped it with eggs...which is his fav! It was a huge portion and he made a heck of a dent in the meal! I ordered crispy bacon and a well toasted English muffin. I don't know who toasted this English muffin but they clearly know what they were doing. Most places, even when you say you want it really toasted brown, give you an English muffin that is almost barely warm let alone toasted. This truly was the epitome of a well toasted muffin! The bacon was good however it was thinly sliced in kind of reminded me of the shelf stable bacon that you microwave to heat up. For the price of the side of bacon, I really expected more from it. Maybe because we were in the state of New York, but in Michigan I can get a thicker sliced bacon at a restaurant for the same price. read more

It's certainly not much to look at from the outside (or inside for that matter), but the food and service was good. It's a really tiny building with seating for no more than about 16 or so. A positive for many is that they serve breakfast all day. That was the appeal for a few in our group and they both very much liked what they got. I had their chicken club with onion rings and both were really delicious. Overall it's tighter quarters than I like. The bathroom is in the back and you have to walk sort of in/near their kitchen which is just weird. Good enough for what it was, but nothing particularly special. read more

Admittedly the food may be wonderful. It may just be OK. We ultimately have no idea as we walked out after about 20 minutes. When we got there, we were told that they wouldn't take our name and we'd just have to wait until seats became available. Fine. When we saw a table that would fit our party of 6 we were angrily told "no! I don't seat that table" (despite the fact that people were getting up and leaving after clearly having eaten there.) Fine. We took seats at the counter when they opened up. Fine. After about 10 minutes of sitting there, the woman server yelled at us (again) that she didn't see us sit down there and we shouldn't have until it had been cleaned. Fine. She then yelled at us that it was harder to clear with people sitting there despite it being a counter with the exact same access from behind whether people were there or not. ok. She slammed mugs and cups around and she cleared and then yelled at us to pick up the menus so she could wipe the counter. The six of us had two menus on the counter. Hmm. Finally, she stomped away and said with a sneer "it will be a while..." By this point, she had made everyone pretty uncomfortable and absolutely wholly unwelcome. One of the kids asked if we could leave, so we did. I get that it's a block from the Hall of Fame so we'd already resigned ourselves to paying $25 for a bacon cheeseburger and $5 for a side of bacon. The 6 of us were hungry. It would have been a robust check and we always tip nicely. I also know that bad reviews will do nothing to stem the flow of customers into this spot. But even with setting the bar so low at "you don't have to be nice but maybe don't make a kid almost cry" they failed. Maybe it was just a bad day but this woman had four interactions with us in under a half hour and got steadily ruder with each one. Good luck if you head there. read more

My family chose the diner this past Friday lunchtime on recommendations of acquaintances met on our vacation trip. It certainly is an iconic building due for its size. It is quaint and cozy with approximately 20 seats mixed between tables and the counter. We were immediately greeted by our server, the only server working the lunch crowd on a busy day. Peach, though busy, made time to interact for our order and to make sure it was correct. She kept the refills coming without request. Once the food arrived she made sure we had everything we needed before diving into the biggest hamburger/cheeseburger I have ever ordered or attempted to eat. This thing was huge, at least two inches tall without bun or toppings. I had to knife/fork it on the plate because there was simply no way for me to hold it let alone bite it. The burger was seasoned well, was juicy and tender. The tater tots were hot and crunchy just like I ordered them. Be prepared to wait in line should you arrive during the busy times. There is a constant stream of folks wanting to eat and lines out the door to wait. One person does the greeting, ordering, table bussing, and checkout. To say she is busy is an understatement. I was impressed with how she handled the restaurant guests in these areas. My party found her to be very competent at her job. There are some very negative reviews attached to this location about this location. They seem to be outside the "norm" of even a routine, negative review. Though I question the validity of those reviews do not let them dissuade you from visiting. If you want good food for breakfast and/or lunch in an iconic location put this place on your to go list. Me and my bro were on a baseball history weekend trip which ended with a visit to the Baseball HOF and Museum. We split the museum visit into two halves taking a lunch break in between and chose Cooperstown Diner as our lunch spot. We were so hungry we failed to realize they were closing in 17min until after we had walked in the door and ordered. Not once did we perceive any attitude from the waitress on our late arrival but instead were met with a friendly, inviting smile and awesome service. We did feel bad about it tho. We both ordered the Jumbo burger platter and boy was it ever! I had to make a plan before I took my first bite. I added cheese and mushrooms to it. The patty was cooked deliciously medium with a slight crisp on the edges and hot pink center. Piled high with lettuce, tomato and onions. No doubt one of the biggest, tastiest burgers I have ever had. Fries were cooked well and piping hot. The diner itself was clean and incredibly quaint and only enhanced the experience of being in such a picturesque town. To start, the diner is cramped. So, if you are claustrophobic, be aware of that. They have limited seating, around 5-6 tables with around 12 bar seats. The waiter was nice. However, we had to wait 20-30 minutes for our food. I got one of their world-famous burgers, which was really good. Which bumped this review from a 3-star to a 4-star. Their fries are really good as well. I'd recommend this place over some places in the area in Cooperstown. When I return to Cooperstown, I will be sure to return. read more

Synopsis: Cooperstown Diner waitress declines service to disabled veteran because she didn't want to go outside in 50° weather. -- -- We tried to eat at Cooperstown Diner because it was the only restaurant on Main Street with outdoor seating that we could find. My dad, a Vietnam war veteran, is in a wheelchair and unfortunately most of Cooperstown Main Street is not handicapped friendly. When I went inside to talk to the waitress, an older woman with purple tipped hair, she said she was refusing us because she didn't want to go outside in the 50° weather (she even said "what is it now, snowing outside?")I pleaded with her, I let her know my dad is in a wheelchair and cannot go in anywhere else, and she wouldn't even look me in the eye while she shook her head and said "I won't do it". I hope she reads this. I hope she knows that my dad, who is diabetic as well as in a wheelchair and needed to eat right then, ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich from my moms handbag on Father's Day weekend, during the only few hours I will see him this year. Just so she knows: when I complained about her to him, he said "maybe she's having a bad day". He was worried for her rather than himself. I always judge a restaurant by the number of locals. Had an opportunity to experience some "home" cooking in this quaint establishment on Main Street. Be prepared to wait...they prepare each order [which is a great thing] and the place is small. The food was good and plentiful. Asked the residents for recommendations and was not disappointed. The have a French Toast dish made with local donuts...my son [and I] really enjoyed them. We just needed a quick bite before visiting the Baseball HOF. Though we passed by some places that certainly had a better appearance both inside and out, we were oddly charmed by this little hold-in-the-wall. We decided to eat at one of the small outdoor tables, it felt just a little too crowded uand too stuffy inside on the warm afternoon that we were in Cooperstown. A kindly older gentleman brought us menus and a pitcher of water, and then after a while he came to take our order. We selected a tuna salad sandwich, the jumbo hot dog special, and some onion rings, but then several minutes later we came back out to inform us that they had neither tuna salad nor onion rings, so chicken salad was ordered instead. Shortly thereafter, the sign on the window was flipped from "open" to "closed" - and this was around 1:30pm. The posted hours indicated that they were supposed to be open until 7:00. This led to a lot of baffled potential diners who walked up and studied the inconsistency before having to find someplace else for their late lunch. After a long while our food came out. No ketchup, mustard, relish, or onions were provided for the hot dog, and when we asked for condiments we were given just two mostly empty bottles of ketchup and mustard. It came with potato salad, which was pretty standard and probably came from a food service company as opposed to being homemade. The chicken salad sandwich was fine but nothing special. So, this an adequate place for a light lunch. Not the best place for a prom date or to impress your boss, but it'll satisfying your comfort food cravings. read more
