Most importantly, the food is tremendous. Toscana is a cute, vintage-style Italian restaurant with classic Italian cuisine and exceptional service. A romantic venue but also good for families. A gentleman was eating with his toddler-grandson at the table next to ours an on the other side (of my father and I) was a couple having their 37-year anniversary dinner. As their dessert was served the entire restaraunt joined in singing to them. This is the type of Italian establishment where the owner visits your table and you FEEL the love. read more

Party of 3 in Fall of 2022. Hard to believe a "fine dining" facility like this exists in the rustic town of Cooperstown. Staff, including the owner and the waitstaff were amazing. Fantastic service and attention to detail. Attractive interior - but see last paragraph. Menu items are accurately described, and served in generous portions with attractive presentation, in a timely manner. Calamari Fritti was perfect.... so tender, perfectly cooked. Mains included Haddock Parisian, Chicken Scarpariello, and Chicken Parm. I had the Scarpariello, and it was superb - as good as it gets. Requests for water, additional bread, etc. were handled quickly. While the overall atmosphere was very good, there is a bit of on issue with one of the seating locations. We were seated at a table for 4 basically at the front window, facing the street. Nice view of the HOF to one side, seemingly intimate location. Unfortunately, the other half of the storefront is the main entrance, with the front door at the front/sidewalk and an entryway with a second door inside the restaurant, supported on a column right next to one seat of our table. And every time someone entered, or left the restaurant, there was a huge "bang" as the inner door closed. And there was a lot of in/out traffic because they were serving people seated at sidewalk tables. Ms. I. was somewhat upset dealing with that crash right next to her ear all night. DO NOT ACCEPT THE storefront table. All it would take to fix would be a hydraulic "damper", or a rubber bumper. Cost them a "star". read more

My son and I stopped in after a visit to the Hall of Fame museum across the street. We didn't have a reservation, but they were still able to seat us. At the time, there was only one other table occupied, but eventually the place started to fill up as it got closer to dinner time. We both had the filet mignon special that evening and it was good. The wines by the glass selection can be improved. The have a decent bottle list, but since I was the only one drinking, I opted for a glass of the house red. Nothing special. The restaurant strikes me as more of a red sauce Italian-American restaurant than Northern Italian as their website claims. I had eggplant parmigiana which was ok. It was drenched in sauce and cheese which I imagine a lot of people like but nothing that you would find in an authentic Northern Italian restaurant. Food struck me as what you would find at a good pizzeria rather than a good sit down Italian restaurant. It wasn't terrible, just not great. It was also expensive for the quality. The service was ok, although a bit slow especially when we were ready for the check. Also we were seated near the front door; every time one of the wait staff went outside to wait on the tables outdoors the door slammed jarringly hard. Next time I'm in Cooperstown I'll likely look to have dinner somewhere else. read more

My family and I came here for dinner last night as we are in town for a wedding. We came here on a whim as a lot of places are closed for the season since it is the winter. This was SUCH a wonderful find. The atmosphere is wonderful. Very classy with just the right amount of decor. We were warmly greeted when we walked in the door and were brought to a scenic table right by the window. I wish I could remember our server's name, as she was kind, attentive, and so helpful! She gave us awesome recommendations and was very quick with bringing out more bread (we are very big bread eaters in our family haha!) The food itself was also delicious! Went here for coop eats weekend 2016. Very good despite how busy it was. Had a 740 reservation and wasn't sat until 800. They were definitely more busy than they prepared for. The meal was a steal though for coop eats you get 3 courses and wine for 30 dollars. I had the meatballs, zuppe de pesce and cannoli. I wanted the tiramisu but they ran out. Also had white wine. Unfortunately with this review I can't tell you about the food. We were staying at a B & B in town. The owner called and made a reservation for us at Toscana. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and there was another couple in front of us who also had a reservation. The restaurant was packed, so we expected to wait a few minutes, but this turned out to be a bit of a disaster. At least 8 other couples showed up with reservations at the same time, and people continued to pour into this tiny restaurant all with reservations. We were still waiting an hour after our reservation and the owner would hide in the back, as he couldn't seat anyone. Then a couple would show up with a reservation after our time and they were clearly his friends and he would seat them as soon as a table opened up. Another couple from our Inn was there and waiting as well. Finally after an hour and a half of standing around waiting to be seated we left. The next morning we talked to the other couple and they told us that they were seated two hours after their reservation time, and the food was okay, but not worth the wait at all. The owner advised them he would give them each a glass of wine for the wait, and he didn't follow through. I wouldn't bother with this restaurant, there are others in town, where you will get much better service. read more

I sound like a broken record when I mention in my reviews, "Yelp, you never let me down" but that's exactly how I felt after dining at Toscana's this past weeekend. We had been to the Doubleday Cafe the few other times we visited the Coop but didn't want to return for dinner....in fact I'm not even sure they are open that late. A friend of mine who had spent many a nights in the Coop said so-and-so place isn't good and then another.....which began narrowing down the limited options in town to dine for the evening. Finally, I stumbled upon the consistent, albeit very few, reviews for Toscanas. We called and made reservations for four at 7:30, I thought it might be difficult to get in at that time but when we arrived, there was only one other table occupied. However, by the time we left the quaint restaurant, it was at least 75% full. One of my only complaints was the list of specials the waitress belted out as we were reviewing our menus. I'm fairly certain she mentioned EIGHT of them! Specials should be just that, not close to half of your menu. I had to get up a handful of times to read the chalkboard of specials within the restaurant itself because I just couldn't remember them all. However, the waitress was super friendly and paced the entire meal well. Because of other reviewers, I decided that the bruschetta was a must and of course it didn't disappoint. Giant slivers of eggplant complemented the mozzarella and perfectly marinated tomatoes over giant pieces of toast with a balsamic reduction to dip the bread in on the outside of the plate. Although it was incredibly delicious, so was the FREE bread and olive oil/gorgonzola cheese concoction that was immediately brought to the table. Do we still need to order entrees? My mother ordered the tuscan salad since she wasn't super hungry (pic included) and the other two in my party had spaghetti/meatballs. The waitress didn't bat an eye when one in my party asked to switch to the vodka creme sauce in his sketti. I heard no complaints from any of them. I took a bite of Ma's salad and was blown away by the roasted red pepper balsamic dressing made in house. I ordered the chicken scarpiello....one of those eight specials for the night and it was flipping FANTASTIC! Two giant, pounded down chicken breasts that seemed like they were marinated in milk for a week to give them a softness I had never had in chicken before. The sauce was perfectly balanced lemon/butter and the sausage that also came with it, OMG WHERE DID THEY GET THIS!? I secretly hope they make it in-house but if they don't, they have a great purveyor of all things pork related. None of the dishes were over $13 so the meal was a steal. They are working on their liquor license and I'm not sure if it is BYOB. The decor was simple and the lighting was dim but man, what an experience for Cooperstown.....I'm glad to see this open and wish them nothing but the best going forward. A really nice place for an upscale Italian food dining experience. Not sure why "fusion" is in their restaurant name...seemed pretty mainstream Italian food, but a quality meal nonetheless. Was here during Baseball HOF induction weekend and ended up "dining" with Dick Enberg and his entire family (what a cool treat it was!). We started out by sharing a meatball appetizer. The meatball was mammoth, surrounded by a moat of their slightly sweet but mostly tangy red sauce. Lots of bread for dipping made this a very hearty meal starter. On to the main dishes. My buddy ordered the grilled salmon, I went "traditional" and order my go-to fav...Chicken Parmigiana. Greg really loved his salmon. The chicken parm was also quite large, pounded flat then breaded and fried served with its own moat of red sauce. Dish came with a helping of pasta with sauce on the side. The chicken was cooked very nicely and their sauce accompanied the meat perfectly. We finished the meal with a flour-less chocolate cake which we ate while Dick's family projected several tribute videos to their newly inducted broadcaster HOF member. Just couldn't resist... Traveling up to a new town I always like to try a local Italian Restaurant. With the somewhat limited hours at least this time of year, reservations are highly recommended. Arriving a little earlier than our scheduled 7:30 res time we were luckily seated right away. After starting our evening with 2 glasses of White Zinfandel and noshing on that warm bread that is offered up at the beginning of our meal perusing the menu. For an appetizer we shared the bruschetta. Main courses the wife had the Pasta Toscana coming accompanied with meatballs( just ok), sausage( very good), in a white vodka sauce. For my entree, went off of the daily specials menu. I had the Fruite Di Mare over a bed of linguini. This was a lighter meal. Northern Italian food is a little different. Which is just fine with me. Whoa!! I did NOT expect this restaurant to be THIS good!!!! We were greeted by a lovely man, with an Italian accent, who told us about the specials. We ended up ordering the Carbonara and the Rack of Lamb Special. The Carbonara, my boyfriend's go to dish, was ASTOUNDING! The more you ate, the better it got. One of the best sauces I've ever had. The Rack of Lamb was....epic. The honey mustard crust made the dish. I ordered it medium rare and it definitely bordered on the more rare side....and it was perfection. I can't even. The GRAVY was spectacular. I mean this chef just knows food. I am a total freak for seasoning and I HATE how under seasoned food has become to placate all the needs of the sodium issues these days. What an example of hospitality where old world red sauce meets small town TLC. We arrived to these hallowed grounds late one June evening only to find most restaurants closed or closing. Not at Toscana where our hostess/ Waitress insisted on seating us - right out front! El fresco on a beautiful summer's evening. As we pondered starters she brought us two lovely glasses of Italian red wine. Eggplant parmigiana with garlic and oil ziti... could it get much better?! Save room for desert only if you dare. Went to Cooperstown with my mom for a birthday getaway. Was talking to a lovely couple at our hotel (Comfort Inn and Suites) who recommended Toscana's to us. I am so happy we listened!!! The food was so fresh and delicious. Our server Gigi was constantly available and always asking if we needed anything else. The atmosphere was very quiet and welcoming, especially with the oldies playing in the background. I had the rack of lamb and they were mouthwatering. The veggies and mashed potatoes that came with it were incredible. The bread was so fresh and the oil that compliments it was delicious. We had the calamari as an appetizer and we could not get enough of the marinara sauce that came with it. My mom had the Frutti di Mare dish that could definitely feed two people!!! We finished of with the crème brûlée that was the right amount of sweet and creamy. Will definitely recommend to anyone who is planning to travel to Cooperstown!!!!!!! read more

We both ordereda glass of wine to start. Kelly said the Sauvignon Blanc was very good and my house red was hearty. Service was awesome as well as everything we ordered. Delicious from start to finish. Cosmo and Margarita were spot on and worth the wait for real lime juice. Calamari was done perfectly, lightly fried and served with a light & bright red sauce. Caesar salad was just the right size with a generous amount of freshly- grated parmesan. Entrees - Lobster Ravioli were some of the best I've ever eaten. They were very fresh and the pink sauce was so light and flavorful. Companion had the sautéed scallops/shrimp and reported they were tasty but serving was dwarfed by the amount of angel hair it was served with. Sauce was yummy though. I was not expecting to have an epic Italian dinner in Cooperstown, NY; however, that is exactly what happened! We had a 7:30 dinner reservation. We were touring the Baseball Hall of Fame across the street and ended up being finished around 6:30. The restaurant was already getting busy, but they were able to go ahead and seat us. I had seen photos of their rack of lamb on the web and it looked insane. I assumed it was probably going to be a special and not available on a Wednesday night. I was incorrect! The lamb was available, and it was delicious. I am not fan of lamb with any kind of minty or fruity preparation. Toscana's is prepared with a bordelaise sauce and served over vegetables and mash. If I had to find something to critique, it would be that I wished there more more veggies in the dish. But other than that the lamb was wonderful, the bordelaise was amazing, and the mash and veg were a perfect compliment. The only downside was that I needed a lamb loving dining companion to share with...a full rack of lamb is a lot for one person, but I gave it the old college try! My husband ordered the Bolognese and enjoyed it. The Caesar salad was also excellent. All in all it was an excellent meal and I wish I were going back to Cooperstown to try more dishes on the menu, that I would have been able to eat the lamb leftover for lunch the next day, and that we would have had room to try desert! If you are even a causal baseball fan, do yourself a favor and make the journey to the Hall of Fame, enjoy the charming town of Cooperstown, and have dinner at this wonderful gem of a restaurant! read more

This review of Toscana is probably the toughest I've had to write. There are very, very good things about this place as well as bad things about it. Making a star choice was very difficult and hopefully this 3-stars reflects the quality well. There are some gems here but also some coal. Toscana is a smallish Italian place on Main Street in Cooperstown. Two companions and I made our visit around 7:00 pm on a Wednesday and allof us were famished. Orders were for calamari fritti and bruschetta for appetizers, and mains would be shrimp scampi, osso buco Mianese, and veal Sorrentino. We shared the calamari and bruschetta. The calamari was crisply fried and wasn't chewy and overcooked like so many are. The pomodoro that it was served with was fresh and tomato-ey, but I advise you to use the lemon on the calamari. The combination added a brightness that wasn't present in the absence of the lemon. The bruschetta was good but in my opinion had too much going on. Olive oil, balsamic, chopped tomato, herbs, and seasonings piled on toasted bread overwhelmed the bread and perhaps had too many flavors going around to judge it well. However, he pickled eggplant skin in the center was a nice touch. Mains ranged from good to poor. Portions were colossal; two could easily share a main dish order. See my photos for example. The veal Sorrentino was a delight, accompanied by a fresh penne in vodka sauce. Layers of breaded and fried veal, eggplant, pasta, marinara and cheese were supported by the penne in vodka sauce. This was the best dish. The osso buco was served over mashed potatoes and topped with pomodoro, which was an interesting but tasty combination I hope to repeat one day. My only wish was that the osso buco was browned first. It had a strong flavor, but that depth and darkness from braising just wan't there. They did not brown it first and the absence of caramelization on the meat lent a lack of depth despite the strength of flavor. The portion was easily twice the normal amount; two could share this without a problem. Lastly, the scampi. It was an overly generous portion but the shrimp were a touch overdone while the sauce was way too heavy with butter. It made for an unappetizing dish with a huge pile of linguine that was drenched in a slick of butter, with light garlic and barely a taste of wine. This was disappointing and all of us at the table agreed. Service was polite but incredibly slow from a waitstaff standpoint; but food came out of the kitchen quickly. Our waitress also brought our food to the wrong table before ours. Normally not a big deal, but there were only 4 occupied tables in the restaurant. Strange. My overall assessment of Toscana would be that they are very, very good at the various sauces they make as well as making good quality, fresh pasta. All were excellent and obvious they were above average. Meats, on the other hand, were hit or miss. The dishes we ordered required nuance in their cooking and I am unsure we received that. Still, on the whole, our meal was good. Toscana is an Italian-American place that is good, but with some alterations could be very good. It's certainly worth the visit but I am unsure what my expectations should be. I hope they figure out who they are and find success. Recommended, but with reservations. read more

Me ad my two friends took a lunch break after walking thru some of the HOF, and its right across the street The waitresses were very nice, and it looks like it took over an old pizzeria? On to the food. I ordered a chicken parm hero, i was oddly craving one, one friend ordered cheese ravioli in vodka sauce with sundried tomatoes, and then my other friend got the penne bolgonese.
