Group of friends went to the Old Mill last Sunday to celebrate a 45th wedding anniversary. There were 11 of us. Always love the cheese crock and crackers. SO GOOD! Relish tray had pickled beets, cottage cheese, beans, coleslaw, etc. Blueberry lemonade also available. Everything excellent. No extra charge for the cheese or the relish tray. Variety of dishes ordered. I had turkey with dressing and gravy. Chose the steamed wild rice, others had the mashed potatoes. Steak duo with bernaise sauce excellent. Prime rib very good. Beet salad as entree very good. Everyone very happy with their food and the service was excellent and attentive. Such a nice atmosphere at this restaurant where you sit looking out over the Unadilla River. Plan on a leisurely meal, as there is much to enjoy. Dessert choices included various parfaits with liquors, all delicious. Great place for a special occasion. Open for dinner during the week (seasonal) and lunch available only on Sundays. We have been dining at the Old Mill for more than 50 years. We go at least once year to relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Unadilla River while enjoying a delicious meal! Their Shrimp Old Mill is a delightful offering with lots of large shrimp covered with a delicious moray sauce on a bed of wil rice. It never disappoints! Well worth the trip up route 8!! read more

As a visitor to the area, I found eating at the Old Mill to be a unique dining experience. I've never eaten at a restaurant that serves a relish tray as an appetizer! As a pub cheese fan, I found it a nice surprise to find it waiting at the table. Very yummy! I got the chicken old mill since it was a specialty and I thought it was good. Definitely needed a to go box. There's no excuse to leave here hungry. Get a window seat if you can to get a view of the river. read more

We have passed by this restaurant for years and finally decided to give it a try. It was literally the worst service and worst meal I have ever had. And this was only after waiting 30 minutes for the waitress to take our order, which we only got her to do by getting someone else to go find her for us. The food is so obviously prepackaged and reheated and served. The green beans were canned, the relish tray was most likely from large containers they pre order and serve straight out of. I got the beef tenderloin medallions and my husband got the 8 hour slow cooked brisket. Both were terrible. I did not even eat mine. The sauce served on top was awful. The brisket slices were so obviously presliced and all the exact same size and there was no flavor to the meat. Such a disappointment. I am trying to find one good thing to say about this place. I cannot. We will never return and we will discourage all others from going. I cannot understand the 10 good reviews unless they were paid to put them up. read more

My family has been going to the Old Mill for many years now. However, the old Mill that I remember from years ago is no longer The Mill it is today. The menu has mostly remained the same through the years, but the quality of it has taken a sharp downward turn. My boyfriend and I ordered the Filet Mignon. Mine was just ok, but my boyfriends was not edible. This is the first time either one of us has been unable to eat a meal due to such poor quality. Completely lacked all flavor and was very mushy- in a bad way. We had my dad also try it who is the absolute least picky person I've ever met. He will eat a steak that is freezer burnt and well done without issues. He said it tasted bad. We had it removed from the bill. I think the issue is that the filet was several weeks old just sitting in the fridge. We have also watched their seafood get worse and worse. Scallops used to be large and buttery. Now they are very small and possibly frozen prior. The 3 shrimp meal is also all deep fried. Probably because it is also frozen prior to prep. The baked potato was extremely dry and was simply a potato that was baked. It came with a small thing of sour cream on the side. Tough dried out skin and no seasoning. The only option for a side for everyone was cauliflower and it was clearly steamed and that was it. In the past there would be 2-3 options for veggies. Not this time. Beer selection has always been very limited. No IPAs or local selections. We all ordered martinis because they were the thing that looked the best. I don't know what vodka they use, but it was not martini level. It was a struggle to finish it. I use to recommend this place, but now I tell others to avoid it, even if you loved it before. read more

I went on a date here and I felt horrible that we were subjected to such horrible food. The place smells of stale water. They bring out a crock of cheese that looked as if it had been passed by other tables and declined before reaching us! The crackers were stale, the salad had fruit flies in it, the platter shown on here did not look like that it all came from a can. I order chicken to be safe and my date ordered what should have brisket that looked like 3 slices of roast beef that was gray with a jar of gravy slopped on top. Yuck!!!!! They said we needed a reservation lol that's a joke the place was empty and it was truly like a bad movie!!! Oh my glass of water had someone else's lipstick on it! No wonder the lighting is dim so you can't see what's really going on or what the food looks like!!! Never again would I eat there! read more

What a great evening out! No cell service made it even better. No distractions by phone buzzes and beeps. Truly a find at this old fashioned gem. Fancy dessert coffees, and a great dessert selection to end the meal. Loved the cheese and crackers tray, the relish tray and basket of fresh bread. So many great dinner options, we all tried everyone's food and everything was great. The only improvement could be if the kids menu had options that aligned with the rest of the food -i really wasn't expecting kraft mac 'n cheese when my daughters meal was brought out. read more

This restaurant reminds me of my grandparents. The relish tray, while slightly disgusting, is incredible!! There is always an interesting variety of things to fill up on before your dinner. The cheddar cheese spread and crackers is also a nice touch. The french onion soup is the best I've ever had. I usually get that AND and dinner salad, and by the time the salad rolls out I'm too stuffed to eat it! My husband has tried a variety of the dinner entrees, and they are never disappointing. This place is a great value, we usually spend less than $50 for dinner and drinks and end up taking a ton of food home. read more

On Route 8, about 9 miles from Sidney, The Old Mill is a gem of fine dining. From the warm welcome on arrival to the favoured window seats by the soft flowing Unadilla River and the complimentary cheese/biscuits/homemade bread rolls + extensive relish tray, you are spoiled for choice even before you look at the menu ! There are some traditional favourites on offer such as Chicken Old Mill which delighted my wife, though I plumped for Coconut Shrimp which was absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed our dining experience and will certainly return on our next trip. Our holiday took us from Toronto through Niagara Falls to the Finger Lakes and beyond during late August and September and dining at the Old Mill was a trip highlight. read more

A perfect spot for an evening Easter dinner. The Easter crowd is huge, so even a reserved table may take awhile to be seated at. About a 15 min. wait, but well worth it. If a place this old is still this popular, you have to believe they're doing something right. Excellent atmosphere and country ambience, combined with casual service, create a relaxed experience. This is old-fashioned American dining at its best. The venue is dated, sure, and the decor is 1980s-chic, but the friendly service and food make up for it. Three of us went for dinner on a Sunday afternoon and had no reservation--but they were able to accommodate us without hesitation. You're given pub cheese and crackers when you arrive, which are nothing special but a nice gesture nonetheless. After ordering your entree, you're brought an enormous relish tray and a bread basket. Whoa. The relish tray reminded me of my grandmother, but was delicious. There were different kinds of bean salads, beet salad, lemon pudding, cottage cheese, pickles, a lot of old-fashioned salads you don't usually see. The bread basket was way too much for our party, but was tasty. We also received a soup or a salad with our meal. My soup was a carrot bisque that was excellent. I ordered the roast leg of lamb, which came with a baked potato and vegetable. It was cooked well and was very flavorful. Again, think old-fashioned home cooking, kind of like what you'd imagine being served in the movie "Holiday Inn". To top it all off, we got dessert. $4 for an impeccable walnut pie. The Old Mill has been a favorite place for us for years. We went Saturday expecting the same great meal and service- unfortunately we were disappointed. The young waitress was running around seemingly stressed out which stressed us out - we just wanted a relaxing slow paced enjoyable meal. We couldn't figure out what her problem was since she only had 3 tables of two and 1 table of four. She never informed us there was a surf and turf special. The usual relish- salad tray came with our salads and we got a tray with only four items while the tables around us got the usual tray with seven or more items. Scallops were blander than I remember. Just not a good experience this time - probably will find another "favorite" spot for an enjoyable meal read more

not the best meal . and I would expect for the price for it to be really good. Lots of servers, but still awaiting on the one that is too busy. heard too many times she would get it as soon as she could. So server nice, but staff not helping her enough and food so..so . Dressing not very good and everything from start to finish just not up to standard. Even the Irish coffee had a flat milky top... The service was alright. The staff was not knowledgable about menu items and had to constantly ask the chef. I have a food allergy so it's important to know exactly what's in the food. I ordered the ratatouille and was expecting a decent sized portion for $15. I was WRONG. I had this little tiny plate and even after I had finished, I was still starving. The appetizers were OK but because of my allergy I could only eat like 2 things so definitely was not worth it. 1) Not vegetarian/vegan friendly. 2) Over priced and under fed. 3) Deserts bigger than the entrees. Bottom line: over priced and underfed. Seems like they make big money off of the over 60 crowd who don't want to drive the extra miles to go someplace decent and don't mind spending their retirement $. read more

We dine here at least 3 times each year and love it! I rave about the prime rib and my wife almost always gets the Old Mill Chicken. Delicious! The cheese spread and relish tray mentioned in others reviews is so good. Be sure to get desert if not for there at least for take out. read more

Absolutely fantastic! I was expecting an interesting homely restaurant, but I must admit I was completely delighted with this gem! We got a seat right next to the huge windows overlooking the river. They start you with a delicious homemade cheddar cheese spread and crackers, followed by the famous relish tray. All of our meals, ranging from prime rib, to Alaskan King crab legs, to scallops were delicious. Really a very sweet and wonderfully historic restaurant. Prices were quite reasonable too. read more
