food was between 3 and 4 stars, service as well my Soft tofu soup with seafood was very tasty and good ( but to be honest too spicy for me and they didn't ask for spiciness level when ordered - minus star on that) bean paste and tofu soup with vegs were good. side dishes were just OK - not too impressive. veggi tempura appetizer was nice! second appetizer from specials we ordered wasn't good at all - it look like it was a leftover from 1-2 days ago and it really were barely warm instead of being hot (not even reheated) but... menu has a lot of options for no-wheat vegetarians and generally we liked the food and service and we will be back to try more and hope to upgrade rating to 4 :) read more

First time having Korean food and I will be back. Miso soup was excellent and what I remember from my trip to Japan. I knew it would be good as there were many Asians eating when we walked in. Business lunches to mom and child lunch. The menu has pictures for each dish along with a description. My dish had sliced beef, fried egg, veggies, rice and red sauce. Oh my. Perfect combo of seasonings and tender beef. No grizzle that I often find at Chinese restaurants. My dining friends had sushi and a lunch box. Tons of food and what I expected for prices. If you want high quality, authentic Korean food, this is the place to go. Their gopdol and bibimbap are a go-to favorite, and their seafood soon doo boo is the best thing on a cold day. Of the appetizers, the seafood pancake is my favorite, and I can never pass up one of their spicy tuna hand rolls! Seriously, their spicy tuna has ruined all other spicy tunas for me because it is just SO GOOD. I would have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley. I take my friends and family here often, usually every 2 weeks. The owners serve the customers, and are very nice and friendly. They remember faces and orders. They serve both Korean and Japanese food. They serve basic Japanese dishes such as terriyaki, katsus, udon, and sushi. I have never ordered Japanese food here. I usually go for the Korean dishes, as there are not many Korean restaurants around here. Their bulgogi and bibimbap are great! The meat is tender and flavorful, and they give a lot of vegetables. Presentation of food is nice as well. Try their seafood pancke, mandu (dumplings), and yook gae jang soup! These are my usual orders. I highly recommend them! Granted, it's been years since I went to this place for sushi, but it's always the standard of where NOT to go. Maybe the mixed Korean and Japanese menu should have warned me. Maybe the gray tuna... Of course it may fall short of NYC Korean food, but this place exceeds our expectations. I highly suggest ordering Korean dishes when you visit. My family loves this restaurant. It's reasonably priced with a warm atmosphere. Mostly, though, we love it because the food is terrific. Visited Toro first time today during lunch for takeout. Beyond excited to hear there was a Korean restaurant within driving distance. So, my plan was to order multiple dishes and enjoy the nostalgia. Some items weren't available for lunch so I'd the dinner portion. So disappointing... Spicy Calamari was just horrible! Calamari too chewy, plain and barley recognizable smothered with onions with a disappointing flavor. Spicy chicken was basically just breaded chunks with no meat or spice. The beef Bulgogi box set was decent. Just a bit dry with minimal flavor. The sides that accompanied the box set were alright. The Kimchi, Miso soup and sides with rice were on point. However, the sushi was delicious. I'd the California, Spicy Tuna & Salmon. Spent $65.89 & enjoyed $11.95 OYE VAY! In full disclosure, my experience was disappointing but I'll return. We had some of the Japanese food (rolls and grilled Hamachi kama) and it wasn't bad but the Vietnamese pho was nothing close to authentic. We stayed in Fishkill to visit Splashdown Beach, and totally not expecting to find any decent food, much less legit Korean food. We had just eaten lunch the same day at a highly rated Korean restaurant in Flushing NY, so to our happy surprise, the food here was as good in many respects. The bulgogi tasted like my own mom's, and they even brought a bowl of ice to accompany my son's hot miso soup, which was so thoughtful and considerate. My kids enjoyed the mix of Korean/Japanese food, and although we didn't have any sushi, the food overall was very comforting, tasty and authentic. read more

This part of Dutchess County seems to have many good sushi restaurants. And I've tried several of them. I was pleasantly surprised when we went to Toro and had an excellent dining experience. The restaurant itself is larger than expected and very pleasing looking place which surprised us as it is located in a strip mall. The service was good. As far as the food goes it has an extensive menu with a number of Asian cultural dishes including Korean and Japanese. My wife and I shared sushi and a stirfry dish. And both were excellent. The stir fry dish was a spicy Korean calamari and it was extremely good, very flavorful and a bit on the extra spicy side but not to point where it took away from the dish. We also shared several sushi rolls and we agreed that the sushi was better than any of the other places we have tried in southern Dutchess County. I will definitely come back. read more

We found this restaurant recently, and have been fans ever since. The Korean menu is wonderful. All the dishes are very fresh. You can tell that a lot of care is taken with your food and service. We brought some friends from Hong Kong with us one Saturday and they just loved it. We've found that the sushi is very good as well. My wife loves the spicy pork dishes, and I've been very happy with the Korean seafood dishes. The owners and wait staff are very helpful and attentive. We highly recommend Toro. read more

Walked in and basically ignored waiting to be seated. Hostess takes us to a table that has not been wiped yet. She seats us then we sit there for 10 minutes without menus. The waitress finally comes over gives us our menus and asks if we want something to drink. I ask her what light beers they have. She looks at me and says I don't know I'll have to check. She comes back and we order our beer. When she finally comes back to place our order she says the kitchen and sushi bar are backed up, up to a one hour wait for food. So.....check please! I have been going to this place for years whenever I have been in the Fishkill area. I have had the sushi here many times and was always happy with the fish and the preparation. Recently I have been enjoying spicy soup. They make a Kimchi jae gee that is loaded with pork and just the right amount of spice. I have been to Toro about 5 times in the past year since I moved in the area. The service was always slow, but the last time (last week) the service was actually rather fast. They are very friendly. The ambiance is definitely better than any other Japanese restaurants in this area. The food was good, no major complaints from me. It's cheaper than Osho. Parking is very easy. If the service has always been fast I probably would have given this a 5 star, but I remember it was always the slowest compared to other restaurants and it wasn't even busy at all. I have been Toro since they opened after Cherry Blossom. The reason why I love this restaurant is because I can enjoy Japanese and Korean food at the same time. My favorite way is to order bento box for dinner. Beef is very tender and sushi is tasty. Each seat is separated by back board, and inside of the restaurant is little dark and quiet. If you would like to enjoy a quiet talk, Toro is my recommendation. (Because other Japanese restaurants are busy with other customer's chatting or hibachi performances) Also if you would like to have a party with 50 - 60 people, Toro is the best place and they will reserve whole restaurant for the party. If you go there in your birthday, they may give you a dessert with sparkling and music on, with little mirror-boll spinning. read more
