I have eaten at this restaurant twice now and each time the encounter was the same. The food was decent but definitely not scratch made. The food quality was the same as any other small Chinese restaurant. The pork egg roll was pretty good. The atmosphere was the weakest part of my meal. The hostess/waitress did not greet me, seat me or follow up to check on my food satisfaction or refill my drink. The checkout was just as cold. Take card, say price and sign. No thank you. I felt like I was an inconvenience. If the mid-Hudson bridge was not under construction, I would take the time to drive over to Poughkeepsie and skip this place. ordered to go here for dinner, service I have to say was pretty quick, my food was bagged up quickly, the women behind the counter were pretty nice and let me know about utensils and sauce off to the side, which I prefer since man some places throw too many utensils and sauce in to go bags and it gets wasted. The fried gyoza was very flavorful with it filling, plus all the filling was well mixed and no big chucks of anything, but bit doughy was the skin, dipping sauce was savory and bit salty. Egg drop soup was good, thick and full of egg, velvety saucy texture. spicy girl rolls were amazing, a lot of flavor and very fresh and not overkill spicy, nicely mildly. This place was very disappointing for several reasons. We stopped in the night of Halloween, after trick or treating with the kids. I ordered a sushi roll that had tuna on top and two tuna sushi. Immediately I notice that the tuna was lacking color. Fresh tuna is has a bright color, this sushi was very dull in color because it was frozen and thawed out. That changes the tunas texture and it was soggy in my mouth. I called the waiter over to the table to ask about the roll and to exchange our sons orange juice for Apple juice. The orange juice was way too bitter. The female waiter immediately had an attitude, the same attitude she had all night. I then told her that I thought the sushi wasn't fresh. She insisted that it was fresh with an attitude and said she was getting the sushi chef. The sushi chef admitted that the sushi chef was not fresh, it was thawed out and it was more cost affective for them. Not many people come there for sushi so they freeze it. Sushi restaurants with a steady flow of sushi customers have fresh sushi. I appreciate his honesty. At the end of the night we decided to give our tip to the sushi chef for being honest and polite. We felt the lady waitress wasn't deserving of anything let alone our business again. They did have amazing egg rolls though. read more

Not a terrible choice for the only sushi spot for a few miles, but if you're looking for amazing sushi it would be worth the drive to New Paltz or Kingston to go elsewhere. We ordered the California Roll and Crab Rangoons for appetizers, both were delicious and fresh! The general tso, sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice were also good. I've gotten take out several times. Mostly sushi, tonight for Chinese. The sushi is great, very fresh. The Chinese food was basic Chinese food like any other place. The pork fried rice was kinda bland. Orders are always ready and waiting but they've screwed our orders up almost every time - I think tonight was the first night they got it right. The food, service and quality is great. I have NEVER had a bad experience with things missing or wrong orders like other places. I love that they offer Chinese, Japanese AND Thai food. I love the egg rolls, seaweed salad, crab rangoon, miso soup (especially for an upset stomach) shrimp chowmein, lo mein, pork dumplings, the pink lady and spicy crab meat sushi rolls and the pad Thai is so good also. We were visiting the area because my brother is getting married soon around there. We stopped in here because the on-going joke is how I've never tried sushi. So thought eh? Why don't we start with a California roll. My friend and I met our two friends over there after visiting the hair salon for a hair and makeup trial. We walked in and the woman behind the counter looks SO angry. To the point that my friend immediately ran over to our other friend and asked if they did something wrong. She said no that they already paid and were waiting for their order. So the food comes out in a bag, because we had asked for it to go. But we realized my brother and my boyfriend were still about an hour away - so we asked if we could sit and eat. Place was empty. Not one person besides the staff. I'm not going to lie, we didn't really wait for a response since we were sitting near the counter anyway. The woman comes over and SNATCHES the place mat and chop sticks away from us saying "this for eat-in only". My jaw dropped! THE PLACE WAS EMPTY!!!!!!!!!!!! So I walked up to the counter, grabbed new chop sticks for us and napkins. We ate and left. The just glared at us the entire time. SO uncomfortable. It was okay food, which is why it got the two stars. At least I know I like California rolls now. But after such terrible customer service - would never go back. Even if it was the last place open on main street. Too bad too, we needed a place for a rehearsal dinner before. read more

So disappointed. We ate at Asian Garden when it first opened and had a great meal. Tonight, the food was like it came from another restaurant. Bland cold sesame noodles and chicken with cashews. Kim Chee that tastes like cabbage in vinegar with chili powder. Sashimi platter actually "featured" fake crab legs. Seriously! One of the other items in the sashimi platter smelled so bad we didn't even attempt to eat. This was a take out order, so I called the restaurant. Spoke with Bobby. Not sympathetic, but told me I could get in my car, drive 20 minutes there, give them back the food and get "something" back. This was at 9:30 at night. Unsatisfying all the way around. Refreshing to dine someplace where so many things are made in house with attention to detail. The wonton soup was a beautiful full bodied broth that was unadulterated by a concentrate or base. It had a clarity of almost consume' but a fullness that comes only with hours of reduction of real chicken stock. The wontons in the soup were substantial and the pork had a defined depth of flavor. The steamed dumplings were served with a sauce that I found a little too sweet but not so sweet that it was cloying, a little acidic on the back end made it a nice partner to the meaty Gyoza. I dined with my 8 year old daughter and they we accommodating when asked for a small portion of a regular menu item (they do not have a children's menu per se and I prefer it that way...kids too often are relegated to bland nuggets and mozzarella sticks instead of having real food!). The California roll was lovely and a welcome first intro to sushi for my daughter. Her sesame chicken may not have been as crispy as I would have liked but the sauce was good, used sparingly and not too sweet. The broccoli garnish was perfectly steamed, easily pierceable with a fork but not too soft. The service was a little slow but easily overlooked after realizing that our food was made to order with great quality fresh ingredients. I'm always willing to wait for good food and next time going to Asian Garden I will plan to spend more time rather than just popping in someplace for a quick bite on our way someplace else. read more

Asian Garden is one of those places that doesn't completely blow your socks off, but is decent enough to come back to when you're having a sushi craving and don't feel like driving far. Along with sushi, they have an extensive portion of their menu dedicated to Chinese cuisine, although I've never tried it myself. The sushi is nicely prepared and they always make the plate look very pretty. As for the taste, some rolls are better than other's, but the fish is always fresh. One of my biggest gripes with this place is how slow the service is. Don't be surprised if you wait upwards of 30 minutes for your food to arrive at the table, and make sure to ask for the check because if you don't, it will take them forever to bring it to you. Overall, Asian Garden is a decent local sushi place, but nothing spectacular. If you're in the area and are having an Asian food craving, it's worth stopping in, although it isn't anything to drive out of the way for. read more

I am completely turned off from eating here ever again. I went with my two friends, they both ordered mochi. The dough, which is supposed to be soft and compliment the ice cream, broke to pieces in my mouth as a tried some that my friend offered. The ice cream was also freezer burned and ruined the taste. As for myself, I ordered the maki combo: spicy, consisting of tuna, salmon, and yellow tail. It was warm and had a fishy smell, which I know means the fish may be old or going bad.The sushi is the main reason I will not return. The maki combo also comes with meso soup and a house salad. The meso soup was very salty, had little pieces of over cooked seaweed, and contained very little tofu. The only thing I enjoyed and would say is good at this restaurant is the house salad. Last thing I want to address to the readers is the service was very poor as well. The waitress said little other than what was necessary to find out what my friends and I wanted to order.
