It's been hard to find a good ramen and dimsum place here in Dutchess County so I was excited to find Ichido and try it out. I was so happy to see Dimsum on the menu until I saw the prices! Way more expensive than what you get in the city! So I opted for the seafood ramen lunch special for $17 which came with a choice of 2 sides. Service was quick. The place was clean with a lot of tables. I read some of the reviews before coming here and they were right, the broth was not hot enough and was a little bland. So I was very disappointed. I decided to try their sesame balls despite the price - $8.49 for 2 pieces since I was already here hoping that would make it better. Unfortunately it also missed the mark. So, 1st time having Ramen and I loved it! The space is comfortable and inviting. Staff were very friendly. Our orders came quickly. Why only 3 stars you ask? Our waiter dropped the food and never came back. My dish was a little spicy and I drank all my water and stared at an empty glass for the rest of my meal. My only other complaint was: I got a side of edamame that was, in my opinion, inedible. Maybe it was a fluke, but Ibwould never order it again. I also had a pork bun which was SO good! My Ramen was crispy chicken Ramen. It was kind of weird because the crispy chicken came on a seperate plate with no knife or anything, so that was confusing. The chicken tasted OUTSTANDING though. My date got the Beef Ramen with cucumber and octopus balls. Her whole meal was l, by her account, outstanding! If I could give 3.75 starts I would. One of my biggest pet peeves is having an empty drink and not being asked if our meal came out correctly. Many reviews mention it's a chain restaurant. If I didn't know, I would think it's just another restaurant among the many in the mall. I've been to ramen restaurants in Japan. There, they specialize in one product not in a varied menu. Here they have incorporated Japanese, Chinese, and some Korean items on the menu. This place has a nice atmosphere evocative of a Japanese noodle house. The staff gets the order correct and it comes out of the kitchen promptly. The chicken donburi was filling and not just rice. There was plenty of chicken, onions, and scallions over a flavorful base of rice. The Takoyaki was a little disappointing. The batter was flavorful, the bonito flakes added some pizzaz, but I couldn't find the octopus. The har gow appetizer was larger than the New York Chinatown ones. That's a good thing. Best ramen we've had around the Hudson so far! The best part of it being fusion is the selection of Chinese dim sum with the menu having Japanese ramen. Quality and portion was good. We came out with a little group to try out the new ramen place that everyone is talking about. I am so sorry that I neglected to take pictures of the appetizers we ordered but here's the rundown. We ordered the pork Bao buns, Gyoga dumplings and Spicy Crab Jalapeños. The bao buns were tasteless and sooo bland. I definitely do not recommend and the gyoga dumplings were good (like every other place you can get them).BUT the crab jalapeños were TO DIE FOR! Totally the highlight of all appetizers IMHO. Crunchy and a bit spicy fried to perfection. A nice portion...I could've eaten a platter of these babies by myself. As far as the ramen bowls, I think the Spicy Curry one was the best. Not spicy enough for me but they brought me some hot sesame oil and that made a nice flavor. Everyone liked their dish...not the best they've ever had but generous enough portions and good . My curry dish only came with two little shrimp...I wished I could've swapped it for chicken. The service was super fast! They brought everything out at once which was disappointing. We wanted to enjoy the appetizers first and then have the ramen. We felt rushed. If I come back, instead of giving them our appetizer and ramen order at once like they asked, I would ask them to please return later for our Ramen order. I'm always in search of yummy ramen as it is my weakness, but unfortunately I haven't had much luck with the limited choices here in the Hudson Valley. With that said, this is the BEST ramen I've had in Dutchess County and I will be back for more!!! Yes it's a chain and it lacks the personal touch of a family-owned restaurant, but the menu has many varieties, food comes out fast, clean and the price is reasonable. I'm so happy to find takoyaki (fried octopus balls) here! This is a Japanese street food stable, if you haven't had it, you should try!! The best way to describe it is octopus meat wrapped in a soft chewy batter with tangy sauce and mayo. Unfortunately the takoyaki here has little to no octopus meat inside, but the flavor is good and I was happy to have these that brought back fond memories of dining in Japan. We also had the beef ramen and the niku soba ramen. Let me tell you, I can eat that Niku soba Ramen ALL DAY. It was delicious!! The noodle has a different texture than the regular curly ramen, it has more depth - I highly recommend it. Not to say the regular beef ramen is bad, but I think we prefer our noodles to be less firm (you can custom your ramen cook preference - firm, regular, or soft), our server didn't give us that option, I think he was new so I assumed we got "regular". Take this review with a grain of salt - and sorry, it's gonna be a long one. Tldr; go check the place out, it's worth it - 3.75/5 for ramen shop, 5/5 for Poughkeepsie. Backstory on my journey to find good ramen... Being an NYC (Queens, to be exact) transplant, the hardest thing for me to learn to cope with in the HV area was finding decent Asian food. I've learned to curb my enthusiasm whenever I discover a new Asian establishment. Businesses need to cater to the neighborhood in order to survive and around here, the very limited Asian population wouldn't be looking for hard-to-find-super-authentic dishes. My partner and I have been trying to find a decent ramen spot for years. We have basically tried every place within an hour drive that even breathes the word 'ramen' from Kingston to Carmel, with every single place being more disappointing than the last. *Disclaimer, I just discovered a Pok fusion spot that has ramen on their menu and I have yet to try them. I'll be checking them out soon! Our first impressions... Ichiddo is a chain of ramen restaurants that was started in the US - they have several locations, mostly in the mid-west, I think. This is cool for areas like ours that don't have a heavy Asian population, but let's be real, I didn't have high hopes. In our experience, dining etiquette is very important in Japan. The staff here is firstly, not Japanese**, and secondly, all-business-all-the-time. They didn't greet us, or explain the menu at all, and you can't see the chefs anywhere as there is no open kitchen. The waitress came, took our order, and rushed off. **I understood the language they spoke, and it wasnt't Japanese. I'm not even going to go into details on what we ordered, because here's the surprise - the food was so much better than we expected that we ended up coming back here five more times in the following month. I wish I were exaggerating. What surprised us the most was the quality of the noodles itself. They cooked the noodles really well, still firm and chewy, and they even used the correct type of noodles for the dishes we ordered. We're not really ramen/noodles snobs by any means, but I worked at a well-known ramen shop and my partner has eaten all over Japan. We expected them to use one (wrong) type of noodle for every dish just to keep their costs low and inventory simple. The menu isn't extensive, which is fine by me, so they can focus on what they offer. I was a little disappointed by the calamari, but that's probably the item I cared the least about on the menu. All the ramen broths were really good, very flavorful without being too salty. My personal favorites are the kimchi ramen (not traditional at all, but I love kimchi), the kara age chicken app (perfectly crispy), char siu bao, and takoyaki (mediocre but definitely hits to spot without having to drive down to Edgewater, NJ). I'll add that I'm definitely a tea and bubble tea snob, and I liked the teas I've tried here. I always ask for less sugar, so that might contribute to it, but as much as I love the tea shops nearby (*very nearby), I do often end up ordering tea with my meal here. The prices are fair in my opinion. I've heard people complain about the serving size, but these serving sizes seem normal to me. I can barely finish a bowl of the ramen by myself. If you want a larger serving, they offer additional noodles for a small price (which is the standard procedure at ramen shops). I usually end up getting a couple of dishes and appetizers to share, and always leave full. I think my average spent is $25-35 per person depending on the night, which is more than fair for a non-NYC ramen dinner (NYC would be almost double that). All this to say, at this point, we've tried everything on the menu and we're fans. I'd give the food 3.75/5 as it is good for a ramen shop, but not nearly the best I've had. Service is a 3/5 - standard for an authentic Asian shop in my opinion. For location, this place gets a 5/5 - definitely the best ramen I've had within an hours drive all around. read more

we had a party of 4 and got the spicy miso ramen, the beef ramen, and the vegetarian ramen. the main issue for our group was the temperature of the food. it was warm at best and you could eat the ramen the second it came out. we are biased visiting from CA where ramen is HUGE and very authentic, but it should be burning hot when served. the vegetarian ramen was very bland and the broth tasted like water sadly. the beef ramen was good, but warm. my friends loved their spicy miso ramen but did comment on the lack of temperature. service was very fast though and the appetizers were yummy. overall okay lunch but for ramen, wouldn't recommend. they had a very extensive menu and sushi offerings, so i would maybe try those items if you go! read more

This place is located in a mall and it turns out is part of a chain of Ichiddo Ramen shops in several states. But I was pleasantly surprised. The place is bright and very clean. The staff was pleasant, not very talkative but polite, efficient but I wished they would have offered to explain the menu a bit. My wife ordered the vegetable ramen and I ordered a dish where a slight spicy broth was served on its own with all the "toppings" in a separate bowl. Everything was very delicious. My only complaint was the broths were served not really hot enough. I just wished they were a bit hotter. A very legit ramen place for sure, with that cozy vibe going on. I found the service pretty nice and very prompt, very thorough on getting my order right with all my additions. Love the variety of choices for ramen from the usual 3-4 choices and here it's 13 to pick, plus a very extensive list of additional toppings ranging from extra meat, veggies, broth and noodles. So the first the fried chicken bao buns, chicken was crispy and most, and bun and Japanese mayo sauce was fantastic, only thing I will knock for it, is wish the chicken patty was bit bigger then just one bite. The niku soba ramen, just perfect, from sightly firm noodles to rich broth, I was slurping up. The toppings on it outside of two extra I got were fair, a sightly charred char sui pork was yummy, not over or under seasoned and not burnt to hell like other places play. Shredded pork was paper thin and well seasoned, at a generous portion. Definitely I can less green onion though and two eggs inside of one half. Strawberry bubble tea, glad here despite tea sections only being an extra after thought, was excellent and done to great quality, plus much appreciated they have less ice and sugar options. Even though mostly ramen in focus the other menu sections are done well. Very glad a family member recommended this place they saw during traveling to me. I came at the recommendation of a "ramen snob" who highly recommended this place. I had never been to a ramen spot before so have nothing to compare it to. Ichiddo is very clean with zen like decor. I found it pleasant and relaxing. Service was fast, polite, and efficient. They have a huge menu of ramen bowls, stir fry ramen, and dim sum. I had char siu ramen, fried chicken bao, and salted cucumber. I loved the cucumber! I really enjoyed all the other dishes too. I didnt know this is a chain! The first part of this review applies to most Japanese restaurants. 1. I always feel ripped of whenever I try a Japanese restaurant. I think it's because they eat with their eyes, one food guru said. They enjoy and appreciate the esthetic of food presentation as much as actually eating it. Is that why there is so little on every little plate? If I am spending $100.00 for one person, I should leave the establishment tapping my tummy all the way to my house. How about when I spent $500 per person? They fed me so much fillers than actual expensive ingredients. Fake truffle oil. Fake wasabi. Fake crab meat. Cheap sake. Why the hell they sprinkle gold flakes?...It doesn't make anything taste better... Probably it was fake gold too. And those sushi chefs yelling and shouting over my sashimi is disgusting!... I really don't want to speak to chef. It's not like he is a Shogun. Right? 2. Now for the review of this noodle shop. Yes, it's a noodle shop. Lowly noodle shop. So why the high prices for such salty dishes. Watch a Japanese spaghetti western entitled Tampopo...great movie. It helps one to appreciate the complexity of a simple noodle dish. When done well, it looks simple and the taste deep with flavor. Here, the toppings cover up the flavors of the soup base and the nuance of the noodle. So I keep searching for the ramen in Tampopo.
