How the server can spoil the broth, but not the spirit (and great ramen!) of District Ramen. I tried this spot on a whim. Craving ramen before a show at the Ritz around the corner. I give the owners a lot of kudos. They are investing in this neighborhood that is pretty hardscrabble and disadvantaged, and it looks like it's working for them. The space is simple and attractive and very busy at 5:30 on a Tuesday. I think the owners were the kindly couple helping shore up the overwhelmed waiter on the night I came. Perhaps the opening line of my review is a little unfair. The ramen was excellent. But it's true how much a harried, aloof waiter can change the entire course of a meal for a diner- at least for this reviewer, who prides himself with having been a waiter for many years. It's hard not to "see" when and how waitstaff might easily turn around a diners experience of a restaurant with a simple gesture or quick interaction that says "I am aware of you" or "I want you to have a good time here" but this guy did not look like he was going to spend any iota of his energy on me. Perhaps if I was part of a larger party (= larger tip??). Too bad. I was rooting for him! So to this end, I'm having trouble giving more than a 4 star review as so much about my visit ended up being haphazard, like my waiters service. But on to my culuniary experience and the dish "#47," District Ramens lovely take on the classic ramen. The broth was rich and flavorful, the wavy noodles cooked just right. The Japanese egg was also cooked to perfection. And the other items balanced out a beautiful dish. Unfortunately the kitchen missed the pork chashu. But when I mentioned it one of the pleasant owners brought it out, insisting in a friendly way that I have it for my last bites. I did have a side of chicken karagee added (+$4.50) which is a fair price for the tasty nuggets, but mine came out cooler than room temperature. I was disappointed they aren't made to order. I do understand it's a time-saving thing to pre-cook before service starts but I also expect my food to be warm. Finally, I got stuck at being charged $2 for a small portion of chili oil. I was bemused at having to pay for a condiment that is a staple of the cuisine. Like ketchup, or salad dressing. Their house-made chili oil is a lovely touch but the up charge is a little hard to swallow. IMHO.

Was very pleased to have a great experience when it opened up and was hopeful that it was about the same or close to the 1st go around and was pleasantly surprised. They survived a bit of misfortune but seems to be back without skipping a beat. The food, the service and atmosphere is great. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of. Can't wait to get back here.

I never mind driving 1 hr to this place because it's WORTH IT every time. The ramen is super delicious and always hits the spot. The employees are friendly and nice. And this place is so cozy and warm. Always a 10/10 experience when I come to this place.

I think this is what Newburgh needed!! The ramen here is great, I've been here multiple times already. They don't have a huge variety of ramen options but I think that's not a bad thing. Service has always been great the times I've gone! No reservations needed It's a small place, very modern but cozy with dim lighting. I absolutely love the ambiance. And there's a coffee shop right next door as well.

This is a small, cozy place in the heart of Newburgh. Matthew our server was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. He gave us our space as we went over the menu. We ordered gyoza, and two ramen dishes. The "standard" #47 and the spicy one, called the Illuminator. Both were delicious and not too salty. A common problem with lots of ramen shops. The unisex bathroom was so clean and tidy. The place is bright, and colorful. We really enjoyed it here and are looking forward to bringing our friends.

The Illuminator - I was so hungry I only remembered to take a photo after I was almost done

I recommend checking out District Ramen! Overall: (4.5/5) Food (5/5) - I ate the illuminator - a spicy ramen with ground beef-- with added marinated egg. It was delicious. The dish has a Spicy, interesting flavor. I would order it again but I'm looking forward to trying other dishes here. Service (4/5) - Service was friendly but slow. I credit the fact that the restaurant was packed when we were seated. I can be understanding of that but when someone who sat down after you gets their food before you (or it appears so), I start to get more impatient. Regardless and in spite of the wait, the service was friendly. When we asked about our meal they admitted that the kitchen was playing catch up and the waiter kept me topped up on water lol Ambience (4/5) - I think it was nice but it was so dark I didn't really get a good look at the decor. The restaurant spacing is very intimate.

Stopped into Newburgh to go search for bathroom fixtures at Hudson Valley House Parts and decided to look for a place close by to grab some lunch. Saw that District Ramen was very near, so drove by to check it out. The restaurant is gorgeously designed and we love the atmosphere. We decided on the gyoza to start and karaage miso ramen as our main course. Both were fabulous! The neighborhood is lovely too and it's just off Main Street. We will be back for sure!

Phenomenal buns, great service. Love the atmosphere here. Their buns are fluffy with loads of filling. Absolutely loved it.

A very pleasant surprise to find this place. Tan tan men was very close to authentic Japanese Tan tan. Love the noodles, perfectly cooked

Excellent ramen. Very close to authentic from Tokyo. Noodles were delicious and cooked perfectly. Broth was excellent. Well done!!!

I remember seeing their "coming soon" sign. Finally, I have had a chance to try this spot. There aren't a lot of ramen spots around here unfortunately so it was definitely something that I looked forward to. It was a girls night for me but this is a perfect date night spot! The inside is just so cozy, the staff, the waiter we had, they were all just so warm. So both my friend and I had the same ramen. I've never tried Takoyaki so of course I had to order it. We both had the No. 47. The takoyaki, the temperature, the sauces and the presentation was spot on. The only exception is that the octopus was a little rubbery inside. The ramen was a good sized portion. A lot of noodles, the pork was well cooked. Again, what would take it to a five, was that the broth could've had more flavor, maybe some more soy would've been it. And the pork itself needed a little more seasoning as well. I will definitely make a return!

Way more expensive than what you get in the city! So I opted for the seafood ramen lunch special for $17 which came with a choice of 2 sides. Service was quick. The place was clean with a lot of tables. I read some of the reviews before coming here and they were right, the broth was not hot enough and was a little bland. So I was very disappointed. I decided to try their sesame balls despite the price - $8.49 for 2 pieces since I was already here hoping that would make it better. Unfortunately it also missed the mark. I saw other people order noodle dish and fried rice and left with clean plates - maybe those taste better. I really hoped this place would be good.

The broth is excellent in both the Miso and Kuro ramen; the Kuro in particular was a standout, especially paired with the house-made gyoza. The kimchi tasted fresh, and it was great to see real wakame used rather than a shortcut substitute. The wait staff is a bit inexperienced, and the restaurant layout is awkward. Reservations are apparently recommended, and this isn't a place to visit if you're in a rush. Still, those minor drawbacks are easy to overlook given the quality of the food. You'd have to drive into NYC to get better ramen. Highly recommended.

Plus, we were craving a soul-soothing, heart-warming bowl of noodle goodness to warm us up from the inside out. Tanma's front counter space is petite with about 6 stools and giving you an eyeful of ramen magic in the kitchen. The izakaya is fun with Japanese rock music playing- which loosely reminded me of Kill Bill's 5.6.7.8's scene. Tanma's owner was thorough and gave hubs and I a crash course on bowl+spoon placement, aligning the wakame to be at the front, sipping the broth first, pulling noodles high and dipping them in and out the broth. And then just then you move your head closer to the bowl, so that you can take in the delicious ramen combo without spilling any and slurp it up. I've had ramen in Scarsdale with a clear veg broth, topped with crispy tofu, grilled tomato slices, Napa cabbage and other grilled veg. So getting an all-veg broth with a splash of coconut cream to mimic pork broth here wasn't what I expected. Getting an all-clear veg broth here isn't an option either- but what's important is we were assured it's a herbi-broth that's used. The kimchi, bamboo shoots and shredded cabbage toppings were nice- but I opted out of the vegan chashu instantly. Again, I was assured it's vegan- but no thank you. This was an experience for both of us- and we liked it. So whether you're a ramen pro or curious newcomers like my husband and I- and you're ready to dive into the deep end of this noodle soup pool, Tanma is the place.

Mine was robust and had a clean taste, although I felt the broth was a bit light for my taste compared to some NYC joints. Wife's ramen had even more watery broth - I think because she ordered the "wafu" broth style which menu claimed had no meat, and together with lean chicken meat without much fat, we both agreed it was tad bit boring. I think it's a matter of chef's philosophy and not necessarily a bad thing, but I preferred a bit richer, more viscous broth than this one. We would stop by again if we're in the area, but won't go out of our way for it either. Still, a welcome addition to the East Bergen County area!
