Had high hopes for this place, it exudes authenticity, but we had several problems. The first is the menu selection. The only two options for appetizers and ramen are pork or vegan. I don't eat red meat, but I am also not a vegan. A chicken option, or even an option with a hard-boiled egg, would have gone a long way. The second problem was that my 2 appetizers, hyaku tofu and vegan dumplings, did not taste good, and I'm not a fussy eater. The tofu was served freezing cold, and -- this has never happened to me before -- the fish flakes that they served over the top got stuck to the roof of my mouth, had the texture of paper, and not a great flavor. The dumplings were served in a cast iron skillet and -- this also has never happened to me before in a Japanese restaurant -- they stuck to the bottom of the skillet so when I tried to remove them, they started to fall apart. The dumplings, I could not isolate which ingredient it was that gave them the off-putting taste, maybe it was chrysanthemum? They weren't gross, but they weren't good. My vegan ramen was somewhere between OK and good. Next, the sign in the window says "walk-ins welcome," but we were told we had to sit at the bar in the front room, despite the fact that there were empty tables in the back room, which is very dark and kind of grim. The stools at the bar are not comfortable, and if you go there when it's cold, you get blasted with cold air every time someone opens the door. Last, the service was sub-par. Our waiter was not particularly friendly and dumped the check on us before we were done eating. We will not go back.

    Authentic Japanese ramen.

This ramen is the best around!!! It's authentic and got damn tasty. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something new, different and exciting. Ps make a reservation before arriving to ensure they have seating. 10/10

We got the vegan ramen .. Yoko, bua and Sarah were amazing host, the vegan ramen was good, but the vegan meat (can't think of name) is a must for this dish. I'm not a fan of kimchi but theirs was amazing, not to fermented.

Inside the restaurant is decorated nicely giving me the feel of a local restaurant in Hawaii's tourist district lol. The seatings are all booth and look very cozy. There are 2 staff at the counter and they both are very friendly and welcoming. There are many different menus from poke to ramen and snacks. The price is on the higher side compared to the portions given. 1 scoop of protein is $14, 2 scoops is $17 and 3 scoops is $20. I like how they keep vegetables because they are fresh and crispy. Spicy poke sauce is very tasty too. It has a nice kick to it. They also have loyalty cards that you can collect points and get free scoops when you purchase enough amount of food. I will be back again if I will be in the area. I only wish they gave a bigger portion lol.

This whole time, I really thought this place was inside a cozy hotel about 2 blocks over. Guess you learn something new every day. We pulled up on a Thurs. around 4 with no res. and got seated real quick. Restaurant K. is airy, chic and gives a relaxed vibe. The menu is on the smaller side, but honestly, there's something for every eating style. We kept things light instead of diving into something heavy. Our spring greens salad was really good: hefty mound of mixed greens, lima beans, string beans and a hint of dill to make everything pop. Hubs had the double-stacked burger with white cheddar on a potato bun and loved it. I had high hopes for the hush puppies because they sounded amazing on paper- but they were doughy than corny and threw me off. Then came dessert. Again- sounded great on paper. It kinda feels like desserts get a "reinvented" treatment here(?). For instance, the strawberry shortcake was deconstructed: a few chunks of white cake, some diced strawberries and whipped cream. Totally unexpected. I ordered the 'Fun-Fetti Dunkaroos' with madeleines because they caught my eye, but they're smaller than standard. The food isn't bad at all. We were just caught off guard by how some of our selections were prepped. What really saved the evening were the cocktails. They were beautifully made and had a lot of strength. No watered-down nonsense here! Plus, our server Karina(?) was super sweet. I asked if I could try the passion fruit purée to see if it was the real deal for one of the cocktails I ordered and she brought me a little sample. Passed the test!

The sommelier should never have served it in the first place - it was unethical, to say the least. The sommelier's excuse was that something was wrong with the refrigerator, yet the sparkling water bottle was chilled, so that was a lie. The $ 50.00 steak was rubbery, hard to cut with a knife, and impossible to chew. Sent it back. The salad and burger were OK. Got a complimentary appetizer with the Chef's apologies. At that point, the staff did their best to avoid our table, and I had to serve our own drinks. Oh, the restaurant was dead, maybe 10 people at most on a prime Saturday night. Now I know why!

So when I saw one opening in Kingston almost a decade ago I just shrugged and kept going. After learning Dianne Reeder's story you realize this isn't your ordinary candy store. Yes they have over 400 kinds of candy you can buy in bulk and the store has your typical kitschy trinkets but if you look deeper it's where you find Diane's passion and empathy for others. She just wants to make your day a little easier and for you to leave happier than you came. Certainly this isn't hard when you're scooping Janes Ice cream and serving vegan homemade soft serve using Fruition chocolate and coconut milk. Even this is fairly common place in a world over run by NYC transplants expecting everything to be homemade and gluten free. Where Dianne is different, is her commitment to community. In 2005, Diane was the winner of the Microsoft/Bill Gates Start Something Amazing Award (a program honoring the unique and inspiring ways that people use Microsoft related technology to pursue their everyday passions) for her work bringing attention to food insecurity. Her passion for cooking and her desire to help others led her to find a nonprofit organization called The Queens Galley in Kingston. The work she did with the Kingston Farmers Market was instrumental in getting them to accept food stamps. Diane's mission to have people come together and break bread in dignity has now spread across the country. Her commitment even landed her a diner at the Whitehouse with President Obama. To add to her resume she graduated the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park while raising 3 kids and running the candy bar. But let's get to the point. Diane is a pillar of the community where everybody knows her name. But what about the food? Just sitting outside snacking on my freshly roasted nuts (still warm) sipping on my 72hr steeped Lavazza cold brew I'd say simply perfect. Don't miss the carrot cake doughnut topped with maple walnuts and stuffed with macerated pineapple. The passion fruit and blackberry parfait or those rainbow cookie tricolor doughnuts. They have a sweet for everyone! Kingston Candy Bar might not be the hippest spot on the block but the love Diane puts into her work is palpable.
