a display of candy in a store

I got the lavender ice cream and it was perfect. The lavender was at the perfect strength and it wasn't too sweet. Every time I walk into the store I feel like I'm in Willy Wonka. Such a cute place! Only thing wrong was how cluttered the store is. Not much room to walk.

Cute candy shoppe on the Main Street of this little town. The prices are good (at least compared to the city) I feel like we got so much for under $5. The owner also gave us some sugar free gum balls to help clean out our teeth...dentist recommended lol

    Cute sign outside!

Okay, so this part of Kingston makes me feel like I'm playing Zaneeta Shinn in a site-specific production of The Music Man, and what better way to feel like you're a girl in 1910's middle America than by visiting a super cute and super cheap candy and ice cream shop? We were absolutely enchanted by Kingston Candy Bar on our day trip visit today, and I can't recommend this place enough! Don't be fooled by the tiny shop! Sure, it's crowded, but look what's taking up the space: rows and rows of penny candy, ice cream, and even house made donuts! I wanted to get something sweet, but it was almost time for dinner. Enter the $1 "Baby Ice Cream Scoop" to the rescue! It's basically a golf-ball sized, 1.5 ounce serving of the ice cream or sorbet of your choice for the reasonable price of one dollar! I got the Salted Caramel Pretzel ice cream, which was rich, buttery, and perfectly complex, plus the small size was a sensible portion for a pre-dinner treat. My boyfriend snagged a few pieces of penny candy in the form of tasty gummy dinosaurs and a couple pieces of candied ginger for me. I was pleasantly surprised by the candied ginger - it's one of my favorite sweets, and yet very hard to find. Kudos to Kingston Candy Bar for carrying it and making my day! The service, for lack of a better term, couldn't have been sweeter, and the salesgirl was very kind and knowledgeable, even offering us some recommendations of nearby restaurants for dinner. Suffice to say, I think I have a new favorite candy shop!

We popped into Kingston Candy bar for a small potion of ice cream and I am ever so glad we did. This is the first time we ever tried Jane's ice cream of Hudson Valley fame. It was outrageously good. I choose Dulce de Leche and it was simply out of the ballpark good. My Mom opted for Killer chocolate and she said, it truly lived up to its name. The charming woman behind the counter informed us that they also have soft serve which they make there themselves. We will have to try that on another visit. The place is also full of every type of candy imaginable but what caught my attention was Avery's soda and their outrageously funny soda names. Be sure to check out my photo of them. You will enjoy the laugh.

    Kingston Candy Bar 'pride' fudge

I was excited to go in as I'd heard great things and was extremely disappointed in their product. I felt that their deal on fudge was great, but the fudge was mediocre at best. I got 6 wildly different flavors and yet they all tasted nearly the same. And the cherry on top of the whole ordeal, their 'pride' fudge was FIVE colors!!! And the woman behind the bar was wearing a pride mask. How can you possible advertise something as pride if it's incorrect...

The candy was stale and the store is junky and cluttered. This place could be so much more with proper management.

For over the past month I had been seeing signs near this Party City store reading "Halloween…read moreCostumes". However, I was surprised when I went inside. It had been my very first time and I thought I'd never need or find myself inside when I went looking for something to spice up my Halloween 2019. I had had a "costume", but when I later learned I didn't like my own choices (for an adult costume), I had to try it out. Although at first I encountered areas with kids costumes, when I went over to the wall where a few more oddball costumes were, all I found (that would fit my lifestyle) were several boas (similar to leis but using feathers - something I'll discuss in a bit), several beaded "lanyards", several tutus (for both children and adults, and something I later thought different about when I saw them - having been male and a "little" overweight) and several other smaller choices that I thought would never have fit me. There were tights and the like on that wall. About the only thing I got there that day was this patriotic small hat - and though I realized my problems after purchasing the boa and keeping it - the boa went into a parks' garbage can. Now, I'm an Uber and Lyft driver. I drive my own car for a living, and I thought later that if someone has a feather allergy and didn't tell me, it wouldn't be a blessing - but a sure shocker. I know they don't contain real feathers, but when these feathers move around, they shed their tiny hairs all over where they touch, and that's what I realized would happen. I wanted out with that boa - and so, in the garbage it went. Next, I came to several candy aisles. There were candies of all sorts on at least two dividing walls and at least two circular "dividers" inside the aisle. Although I thought that was a cute touch, when I realized that maybe I should make Halloween (today, while writing this) special, I had to buy a pack of chocolate coins (this one happened to be purple to match the "now non-existant" boa) which I could - and still will - give to my passengers/riders. I came upon colored balloons - but thought that it would get out of hand if I was to give my riders ones and it would impair my ability to drive. But that's when I moved further in again. I came upon another divider worth of other parties' needs. Things I didn't need for traveling on a day - things meant mainly for houses and rooms with posters and the like. I moved up towards the registers then. However, I had to stop when I encountered hair coloring in spray cans. I couldn't resist myself buying my first purple-colored hair spray. Paired with the funky hat, I later learned would be something not worthy of my choosing, seeing the weather conditions (I should have checked the weather report for the day of use). I looked around for more, but nothing was really exciting me, and I had limited amounts of money to spend. I was estimating my cost and figured in tax. I put the stuff up on the counter after the register-person appeared (when I first looked up at the counter, it looked like there was nobody there until I got into the line near the register and waited). It didn't take long. It didn't take that long for the transaction to get rung up and for payment to be processed. The card readers were clean and weren't problematic for me. About the only thing the register employee almost couldn't find (or get ahold of) was the barcode for the mesh candy bag (since the boa was almost covering it up in "glory"). I did find one oddball thing after purchase. Signs were directing me around the divider in a circular fashion around a divider instead of directly out - I wasn't pleased! I knew I had a receipt - and with Ulster County's bag laws, I didn't want or need a paper bag (I would later partially regret my decision), but inside the store, it just felt awkward. I don't know if I'll ever need it again, but I'll keep it in mind. I had a rider just yesterday (a day after I visited it by myself) to this location, but I wanted to keep my thoughts at bay and didn't want to reveal what I had for today. It actually worked out, because they later tipped me.

My first interaction was with a very helpful employee who informed me that what I was looking for was not currently available but could be ready in an hour. No issue, I agreed to return an hour later. I wasn't asked to pay or provide a name but didn't think much of it. I returned an hour later where the first employee said my order was drying and nearly done. Almost immediately, the manager pulled this employee into the back, and abruptly shouted to me that my order was "all out". Dumbfounded, I stated how seconds earlier I was told quite the opposite. Again, the manager rudely shouted at me rather than provide an explanation or alternative. After questioning this inconsistency, her story changed to, "it's not drying", and I was shrugged off to help other customers. Clearly prepaid orders were prioritized over mine, and the manager lacked the competence to provide quality service to a potential future customer. I strongly encourage others to shop for similar products elsewhere.
