Zero stars. I am new to avoiding gluten for celiacs. I'm very polite and feel super annoying having to ask questions. I called to ordered a few rolls and asked if the rice was gluten free. And the lady "it's regular rice and I was like so it's gluten free? And she said yes." I ordered spicy rolls, and regular rolls. So I called back to confirm that there's no soy sauce in the spicy mix and that there no other seasoning in the rice but typical rice vinegar, I couldn't get a straight answer from the lady and then she told me to just cancel the order and hung up on me. I called back because I didn't know what the heck just happened and wanted to just confirm that my order was canceled so I wouldn't be charged and she said "i already canceled it" I don't see how they can accommodate allergies if they can't confirm what's in there food. read more

We came here on a Sunday for lunch. We were the first customers and ordered a bubble tea, the lunch 2-roll (I ordered trio roll and yellow tail jalapenos roll) special for $10.95 with miso soup and salad,plus a White Swan roll. Everything came out fast and delicious. The only thing was that the waitress wasn't very friendly, but she was fast so it was fine. The price was reasonable and we had a nice lunch. Solid sushi spot!! I think I may like the other bonsai's slightly better, but the quality here is still very similar. They have seashells and blue walls giving a beach vibe which seemed kind out of place. Service was nice. read more

Quaint spot; feels cold upon entry. Spacious seating - a big plus. Friendly staff, attentive. The restaurant looked clean. Ordered a couple lunch specials. Food came VERY fast. I had a Bento Box, my date some sushi. The soup was NOT good. It tasted off. I had Miso soup not too long ago and it was 100x better. The salad was not to my liking - I prefer a spring mix. The dressing was tasty though. The Teriyaki Salmon was yummy - I was impressed with it. The pork dumplings were also very good, but no sauce? My major complaint were 2 types of the sushi were overly mushy. I've never had mushy sushi before and although it tasted good the texture was a bit suspect. Food was excellent! Service was wonderful, the food came out quick (5-10 minutes). The waitress/hostess was working super hard to get the to-go orders to everyone waiting and taking calls. Shout out to her! Two other workers made sushi. The atmosphere was calm and it had a sea theme with shells on walls. I liked it very much. I ordered the bento box that included: miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, cali roll and a teriyaki roll. You can select 2 other options and you there's plenty to choose from! I chose the salmon teriyaki and the spicy tuna roll. I also ordered gyoza as appetizers and a bubble tea. Miso soup: super simple and delicious Salad: simple as well and the dressing was light California roll and spicy tuna roll: very good, though not spicy. The tuna roll had a nice crunch which was great. Teriyaki roll: my favorite, super crunchy with salmon (I think) inside and sauce on top! So good! Salmon teriyaki: not over cooked with delightful sauce with some grilled onions, carrots, broccoli and shredded zucchini Gyoza: a bit smaller than what I expected but it satisfied my cravings! Bubble tea: my least favorite, not the best one I've had. A bit bland but the pearls were chewy so that's good. Totally recommend and would go again! read more

Wanted to try here since I been to bonsai 1 & 2. I noticed its bit understaffed here, but considering most I saw get takeout I get it. My sever was really a star here,holding down the front for to go orders, severing people eating in and actually making the sushi rolls as well. Plus he kept a simile and was very friendly, with ensuring you liked the food. Both the valentines and pepper tuna avocado rolls were great and super fresh, despite having to move around a lot he made the rolls with quality. read more

Food was gross. The spicy maki was super mushy and reminded me of cat food. There was a weird greasy cold fried fish ball covered in gelatinous white slime in my bento box. The meal left me nauseated. Sushi from ShopRite would have been better! read more

The best sushi period! The rolls are always so well done. There is a perfect fish to rice ratio. The rice isnt soggy or mushy. It's cooked perfectly. The front desk hostess is so kind and bubbly always. There service is very good because even when I waited an hr one time months ago on an extremely busy weekend she gave me a free drink w my order! I came down for the weekend and needed to find a place to eat. Bonsai did not disappoint. Upon entering the building we were greeted right away and sat down immediately. We were given menus and some time to decide before ordering. The food came out relatively quickly and the presentation was awesome! The service was awesome as well. Everyone was so kind. They have NOT improved after Covid. For mother's day, I preferred some healthy Japanese takeout. Hoping they had cleaned up their acts. Such a shame. It used to be really good before Covid; brought family and friends here. Not so. I had the Miso Soup. It states scallions and seaweed - there was one thin strip of seaweed, one piece of scallion, a couple of tiny tofu bits. Extremely salty! California Salad: Very thinly sliced avocado (probably about 1/4 cup worth of it, and extremely thin "strings" of so-called crab stick and masago. Placed on top of nothing but a pile of iceberg lettuce called "green salad." Ginger dressing - orange stuff tasted sweet but absolutely 0 ginger! Tako Su - barely edible, rubbery Octopus, I had to spit out most of it. Seaweed was plentiful, not too bad, 0 cucumber! Where is it? It was floating in 1/2 cup of vinegar "sauce" that was also very salty. My husband ordered his usual sushi: he said it wasn't terrible, but not very good either, and the accompanying soy sauce was also overly salty-he threw it out after the first taste and used our soy sauce that we always keep on hand. Using cheap substitutes and too much salt, and stingy ingredients makes a very cheap dish. The prices do not justify the cheap, poorly prepared, stingy ingredients and absent ingredients. read more

This has become our main sushi spot. In particular, we usually get the sushi bento box. Mainly, the size of the sushi rolls is a bit larger than other places, so you do get a good value for the price. In all seriousness, this isn't gourmet omakase style sushi, so it's a quantity vs quality choice. Other sit-down sushi restaurants might be marginally higher in quality, but leave you wanting in terms of portion size. This is a good compromise. read more

We've been consistent patrons of their Bonsai 2 for many years but this is so much closer. We hoped it would be just as good & it did not disappoint! The "Jury is still out on the decor" (lol) but it's clean & very cheery. My brother & I elected to sit at the sushi bar. We were greeted warmly by a couple who are husband & wife (waitress & sushi chef). They didn't have their liquor license yet but welcomed BYOB. Everything we ordered was fresh, plentiful & tasty. The Chef even created a special appetizer of oysters he asked us to evaluated as a future special. I'm not fond of oysters but my brother is and devoured them! Definitely our immediate go to for takeout. Their rolls are decent size and they have some rrally great combos like the cocomoko, yakimaki, memories of japan, volcano, shes so hot, monkey, green dragon, and more. We always get a bunch since we cant settle for just 2 or 3. And theyre very quick with making them too, we usually just wait 30 to 40 minutes to pick up. read more

The best of the Bonsai's, in my opinion. We got take out and dined in a few times over the summer and the food was consistently good. There's really nothing else to say! We have many "Japanese" restaurants in the area, but most are fusion-y. So to find a place with consistently good sushi rolls is a nice change. read more

Looks like they're having issues with the online ordering so be prepared to wait longer than they say. Ordered online and was told it would be forty minutes but got there an hour later and still had to wait. I'm giving them a 1-star rating because the people who live in this area expect an establishment to keep their hours of business consistent. I ordered from Seamless and almost an hour after my order they cancelled because the decide to close or at least stop taking delivery orders 2 HOURS EARLY! Leaving me with nothing but diners to order from because of their lack of concern towards customers. Nice bright brand new place in the Fishkill plaza on Route 9. Excellent, extensive selection of sushi rolls and a wide variety of noodle dishes available, also. The ambiance is refreshing, with a light and airy nautical feel to the décor. Ive been here 3 times now and the service has always been friendly and prompt, and the serve times seem to be quick, even when they're really busy, as was the case this past Sunday. Last time I was here, I had the Naruto roll, the Kani salad and the miso soup. All prepared very well, fresh tasting and satisfying. In addition, I really like how their menu (and take-out menus) feature photographs of all of the rolls- a plus when you're picky and not sure if you'd like to try something new, just based upon a written description. read more

Absolutely delicious sushi, just like Bonsai 2, but way closer to Cold Spring. The fish is ultra fresh and sliced to perfection, and the rice is the perfect consistency and temperature. The service is friendly and efficient, and I think the decor is beautiful. It's a nautical theme with blue lighting that makes everyone look gorgeous. The food is good but the counter service is not customer oriented. I ordered $38 of food for my dinner for 1 on an internet pick up order with a tip and requested extra sauce for my vegetable roll in the online order. When I got there the cashier told me that the extra sauce would be a dollar. I asked her to charge my credit card because I did not have cash with me. She would not and sent me away without the extra sauce - which is quite a small container to begin with probably 2 oz. It was pouring rain and 10 minutes before closing nevertheless I left and went to the closest bank got twenty bucks, paid a $4 atm fee and came back to buy my $1 sauce. I like to enjoy my food the way I like to enjoy my food it's not about the money. Truth be told I eat a ton of sushi and sashimi and have all of the top-notch ingredients at home tonight to have made it myself (Toro, Sake, Maguro, Ikura, Nori sheets, Sushi rice & vinegar, pickled ginger, wasabi) and do often and could have done that tonight but what I wanted was convenience - and that's where they failed. I paid a dollar extra for brown rice and a few dollars extra to upgrade my green salad to a seaweed salad . If they had an option with the vegetable roll to pay for the extra sauce I would have checked it as well happily but they did not. This was not a pleasant experience. With any type of customer service minimally I would have expected them to either charge my card, or give me the sauce telling me that next time I would need to pay extra or just owe them the dollar. That's how you make loyal customers and retain them. By treating them well and with courtesy. Not by being chintzy over a dollar on a high margin item like sushi. read more

We ordered their special rolls for a party we were having and the sushi was so big! All 10 rolls! I've never seen sushi that size in my life. It was mostly rice! You couldn't place the sushi in your mouth, instead we had to bite it twice. When I called to ask why they were that size and why they had mostly rise in them they told me I should have told them I wanted less rice! I've ordered sushi so many times and have never had to tell anyone to put less rice. Don't order from here! read more
