( a two star rating is warranted) here is why; Taking into consideration that we were ordering take-out on Mother's Day ( my daughter called at around 5:15 pm) the reception was unacceptable. ZERO listening skills which only prolonged and confused the process. ALLERGY ALERT:POTENTIAL HEALTH RISK TO ME, While placing our order, my daughter TRIED to communicate my allergies but was continuously and rudely interrupted. For decades, we have communicated our food restrictions in this efficient way without issue using kitchen-friendly messaging; "We have an ALLERGY to onions, garlic, scallions, THE ENTIRE ORDER must be allium free..." Just tell me what you want ! " barked the woman. TAKE OUT ORDERING: We were ordering a pick up order "Party platter(B)" about $70, so we needed it to be correct. FOR MY SAFETY, my daughter TRIED to finish the allergy alert. This woman wanted to keep interrupting. My daughter relented, placed our order which was very organized. When my daughter followed our ordering protocol by asking to confirm that our allergy restrictions were met, she was rudely informed that one of the items could not be offered to us because it is made with onion. THIS NOW REQUIRED ANOTHER CALL AND SIGNIFICANT DELAY. Diners came and went while my order was sidelined due to poor communication skills. Bonsai is a very good sushi option in the mid Hudson Valley. I have eaten here quite a bit, and have always felt that the food was well prepared. The ambience is a little over the top with multicolored lights in the ceiling and around the restaurant, but it is well lit and clean. The food always tastes fresh, the soup is hot, and everything is delicious. I recently had the chef special sushi lunch and it was very good. I did see that one of the sushi chefs had a cold or allergies or something. He was sniffling and wiping his nose a bit. The other one prepared our food. :-| Service can be hit or miss. When I went yesterday we were not greeted upon entry and we helped ourselves to the chef station seats. The wait staff was not particularly friendly nor unfriendly, just ambivalent. Four+ years living in the area and we tend to only seem to eat sushi in the city or on LI, yet this perfectly great place exists close to our (former as of next week) home. It's our final week here in Wappinger's Falls and naturally with our kitchen all wrapped up, we need to hit up our favorite places to eat, but on Monday all of those places seemed to be closed for Labor Day. I remembered the stellar reviews for Bonsai, all three of their locations and two of them were open. Yes, it's in a strip mall but it's lovingly decorated and has Japanese aesthetics in droves. The interior is spacious but inviting and there are booths against the wall for more privacy if you're not looking to dine out in the open. Service was prompt and attentive. I was really intrigued by all of the veggie sushi rolls and in addition to my typical AAC and avo/cucumber, I had a veggie roll with oshinko and yuba that is delicious. I'm a fan and regrets, I have a few, for not having tried it sooner. But I have a feeling we'll be back in the area from time to time, so it'll go on my list for sure. read more

So to the service I mean pretty attentive as far clearing plates and offering refills, plus there, but other that seemed to want to hang out more then serve. Just my two cents though. The Food, very impressive, I got a spicy tuna roll that actually had a kick spicy wise, plus the crunchy part on top rather then mixed in with tuna as filler. Pepper tuna roll did not disappoint, very seasoned well and roll itself was amazing not cheap on the fillings. Came back here since they opened up the dining room after Covid. I tried the sea weed salad for the first time. I guess I was expecting it to taste like seaweed but it didn't. It was really good which surprised me. We shared the Shumai and Gyoza dumplings. Honestly, really liked to Gyoza. They were sautéed perfectly but I felt the Shumai was bland and kinda mushy. This place used to be my go-to Japanese restaurant in the are, not so much anymore. I used to get fresh sushi and very yummy vegetable tempura from this establishment. The service used to be correct, not too friendly but no mistake on the orders. Lately, the service is sub-par. When I come in I feel like the staff is doing me a favor by taking my order and bringing my food. If I order something that is unusual, they almost want to convince me to get something else. The food is very greasy. Additionally, even if I order appetizers and entrees, everything gets delivered at my table at the same time. The tables are very small, so it makes for a very awkward meal. The prices and decor are fair. They have a very decent tempura ice cream. However, the service is pushing me away. I hope that the restaurant will get better soon. read more

The food gets a 10 Star. The staff is rude, rude rude! Can't get us out fast enough. Didn't refill our drink. I had to ask for a drink after not being offered one or even water. My daughter has food allergies so we asked for a non traditional dipping sauce. We received the rudest look and she didn't try to hide her disgust. She was not even our waitress who was sweet. She took over and then when it came time to pay, I could not find my card. It was in my purse but it fell Out of the wallet. Now, At this point I am in a walking boot after surgery on my foot limping the whole time so it's not like I was going to dine and dash. I asked her to give me a moment to look in my purse to find it and she absolutely would not leave scowling and staring at me the whole time. There was no reason for her to stand there and the place was even packed..
