A cozy lil Asian fusion restaurant in Milton. The Red House, features sushi, dumplings, and a nice assortment of noodle and rice dishes. They also have a decent bar, featuring sake, cocktails, beer and wine. On my most recent visit they were sold out of a couple of the imported Asian beers, not to fear though. They also have a decent list of local draft beers. So of course I pivoted to a IPA. For dinner we started with the Korean Wings ($14) from their extensive specials list, as well as the Shanghai and Singapore Noodles ($16 ea.) The wings were fried perfectly and the sauce was a well-balanced blend of sweetness and spice. For our noodle dishes, we were surprised to find that with the special you get a combo of chicken, shrimp and pork, as opposed to the choice of only one when you order from the regular dinner menu. Price point also varies depending on your protein. The Shanghai noodles were saucy, with a good amount of veggies with noodles similar to that of chow mein. Alternatively the Singapore noodles are very thin, spiced with a bit of curry and extremely flavorful. We enjoyed both and loved the care that was given by our server. She checked in and updated us about our order, while carefully navigating our needs without interrupting our intimate dinner. Stopped by for lunch with a group of 5. Nice warm decor with a nice efficient table layout. One server for the entire restaurant causing very slow service. Server was nice and friendly but did not know the menu to properly explain the dishes. The Sushi roll rice was cold! Rice should be warm/room temperature with cold seafood. Below average. Dumpling and soup dumplings were good. Pad Thai. Undercooked and too sweet. Below average Shanghai noodles too greasy and lacking flavor. Vegetables in it were very good. Below average. Eggplant/garlic sauce. Very flavorful without being too salty or oily. Excellent. Bathrooms could be little cleaner. Service could be quicker. Too pricey for average and below average food offered. There is really nothing wrong at all with this place. It is a very pleasant atmosphere. The servers are always warm and welcoming the food is good to fantastic. And that's the problem. There is an inconsistency with the food here. The same dish on a good day is bangin' super delicious and on some days it's good. Nothing to keep me from eating it. It's better than most but compared to the last time WTF??? Here's an example. We love the hot and sour soup, last time it was perfectly spice and hot, temperature wise. The ingredients were all well chopped and I could have eaten three bowls. The last time, today...it was a couple of degrees above warm. The flavor was good but there were chunks of ingredients that were not cut properly or at all. I had what at first I thought was a chicken bone but turned out to be maybe a twig from the spices. My wife found whole dried(now soggy) chili peppers. It was as if they were training a new chef. We ordered dumplings pork and also veggie ones. The veggie ones needed seasoning the pork ones were good. Nothing was so bad that I would never go again but the consistency makes it a game of odds. You are first struck by the ambiance at Red House. On a cold, wet, snowy evening the Red House neon light shines like a warm beacon. The decor and ambiance once you're inside does not disappoint. Full on the Friday evening, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. This set the scene for a lovely evening. Our server Linda was charming and engaging, keeping us entertained. While we waited a little for our first drinks (the bar was busy), the rest came out in great order. We started with a shared order of sushi, prepared in front of us by the sushi chef. A great opening act. We followed with shared soup dumplings, which we always search out! Delicious. I had the prawns with walnuts, served with broccoli and steamed rice. Too much for me, so home it goes. Delicious ! My SO had the roast duck which honestly we could have shared as it was half a perfectly roasted duck with vegetables & steamed rice. It's awesome to finally have a solid all-around Asian cuisine option in the Marlboro area, especially on Milton's Main Street, which desperately needed a late dining option. Apparently this location housed another Asian restaurant a few years ago, but this new version seems to share only the name. The menu is fairly standard American pan-Asian fare mixing familiar Japanese and Chinese dishes - but there are some surprising standouts you might not expect. I've tried the Singapore noodles - it's a very filling portion with a nice mix of curry and slightly spicy flavor. The sushi, which can be a gamble at pan-Asian restaurants, is creative and tasty. Get the mango roll! It's great. The servers are friendly and helpful, with some easily forgivable issues on the busier nights that I've been (they've only been open for a few months!). We loved this restaurant but it abruptly closed. My husband googled them tonight and realized they reopened... I called because I didn't believe him. lol, it's an amazing restaurant just a few minutes from our home. Milton is a lovely, quaint little town. Quintessential Hudson Valley... Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa, Henrys at the Farm Restaurant , Locust Grove Brewery and Frieda's cafe. Even the laundromat and the post office are just as charming. The red house menu is Thai, Chinese and Japanese. My husband ordered a sushi, sashimi dinner and I ordered the soup dumplings and Massaman curried shrimp. Both our meals came with a salad or miso soup. My salad was the best I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant. The carrot dressing had sweetness that was different but welcome. At Japanese restaurants the salad is almost always disappointing with waterlogged iceberg lettuce . The miso soup was just as impressive. The soup dumplings were good but We are spoiled by Joes Shanghai in NYC's Vhinato The sushi/ sashimi dinner was very generous and my husband couldn't finish it. Breakfast tomorrow. lol! My shrimp masaman was delicious but lacked the spice that Tai food should have but this is America. Our server, Linda brought me some chili oil to enhance the dish. The portion was so generous that I have enough for lunch tomorrow or dinner as well . I could tell that our server was trained well. She was attentive and anticipated all our needs. I've been here about 5-6 times now since they opened. The first couple of times were so-so, then the next few were really enjoyable overall, but the last time we were very disappointed about one thing in particular: the chicken satay ($7.00) appetizer, an item we've been ordering all along, suddenly shrank in portion size from four little chicken strips on a stick to ONLY TWO! $7.00 for only 2 tiny strips of chicken, really? That made me and my dining partner very perturbed. I was REALLY beginning to like Red House, but if they continue to keep cutting back on portion sizes by 50%, I may just have to stop coming here. In the beginning they served you warm little hand towels that had a wonderful scent within: lemongrass and ginger - SO nice! But then they stopped doing that several months back. Other than those two disappointments, my dining partners and I really like the food presentations, menu offerings and the quality/taste of the many items that we've tried. Red House is a great fun place to have Asian food of many styles. This cool looking restaurant in Milton, NY is not open very long and it is trending to be a hit. We were there tonight for our third great meal. Great drinks, especially the Mango Margarita with a salt rim. A great list of small plate apps that if you have enough could be your whole meal. Great Red Curry done any way you would like it. Beautiful fresh Sushi and Sashimi that caused ooos and ahhhs whenever delivered. Here is the best part. The staff is great. I know how hard it is to get great people to work at a new place, but the people here are great. My wife and I frequent the Poughkeepsie area for work and entertainment, so we are always looking for new places to try. I'm not a wordsmith by any means, but the restaurant is cool looking, clean, well-designed and decorated, properly ventilated, etc. Staff was friendly, actually smiled, and seemed like they wanted to be there. This is definitely the type of restaurant many towns in Upstate, NY wish they had. We found the sushi to be better than average, but not great. Ordered three specialty sushi rolls and the taste was a little more "bland" than we would have liked. So ti was somewhere in between passable and very good. But if you look at the other reviews, we're in the minority, and maybe it was an off-night. Unfortunately, though, when you're just starting and trying to develop a clientele, off-nights are not good, and perhaps most wouldn't be as "forgiving" as we are and would have rated lower. Or, even worse, not recommended to friends. We still had a good time, which really is all that matters. With that said, this is a good place to go with for friends, for a date, etc. Definitely an asset to Milton. Definitely true Asian fusion. A pleasant Asian restaurant. The decor and feel of the place was nice, and our waiter was pleasant though not very interested. She did the usual how's your food. Sushi was decently done. Pad Thai was salty, one of the few times I felt I could make better pad Thai at home. Salt and pepper squid was breaded like crazy and the garnish was dry. The soup dumplings were a bit soupy but not much. I have a major complaint about the uni (sea urchin roe). It came to the table looking like scrambled eggs. Much worse, it apparently had been cooked, perhaps because the chef thought it was not fresh. If you cannot serve a certain item decently, take it off the menu! I have been to this restaurant often and every time I go the experience gets worse. I order a hot sake and it's always just warm to cool. The food is always cold by the time I get it. This past time we went was the worst by far. We ordered a roll for an appetizer and never got it. I asked the waitress what was going on with it as we even got our check and we were billed for it. She went back in the kitchen and explained they were still cooking it?? We were there for an hour during lunch!! When I asked her to take it off, she did and went back to the kitchen to let them know. You heard the chef in the back venting about it. I will never go back after that. The best miso soup I have ever had, the plum spritzer was refreshing, the dumplings had a great texture and crisp to them, the sushi was exciting, and the banana katsu hit the spot. First, I don't subscribe to the notion that a good meal gets five stars. This meal was really excellent and this is a place that should be on your list of places to go if you want a really good meal. Just understand that I feel that ratings on Yelp tend to be inflated. That being said, this place rocks. We filled the table with small plates. The ribs melt in your mouth! Dumplings are good but not great. Roast pork was really good....not overly sweet or salty. Singapore noodles were good but not special. My mom and I have a house on Dock Road and was introduced to this place by a local neighbor and friend. We've always had good experiences here food and service wise. But today was the WORST! NEVER COME ON FRIDAY'S! First of all the server we had was very ditsy, inattentive, and very stressed. She was nice but she forgot my mothers order for wonton soup. When we asked the manager about it she ran to him yelling "she never ordered that!" False. She didn't hear it. However, she did apologize for her mistake... aAlso, my meal consisted of seaweed salad, salmon roll, and chow fun with tofu. They neglected to mention that the tofu is fried to a crisp. Almost inedible and not very pleasurable. The noodles were super over done. I feel they need to explain or specify items on the menu if they are fried or steamed since I was under the impression that tofu is normally steamed.
