My wife and I have dined at this restaurant several times in the past 19 years. More recently, we have done more takeout and have not visited the restaurant for a sit down meal in quite a while. I am pleased to report that on a recent Saturday night we had a sublime dining experience. The staff couldn't have been more gracious as they had the luxury of only a half filled dining room. We wanted to take our time and ordered an excellent bottle of wine, a Hugel Pinot Blanc from Alsace, one of the wines by the glass. It's always a winner and was priced at the astonishingly low price of $34/bottle. I've paid as much as $65/btl for this same wine in Manhattan. Our server gave us time to savor a glass of wine before we placed an order for appetizers. Summer Rolls were like having a salad rolled up in an impossibly thin rice wrapper. When dipped in the savory peanut sauce, they became a thoroughly satisfying vegetarian bite. We also ordered the fried dumplings, which put the usual, pasty Chinese restaurant staple to shame. These were light and crisp with a well seasoned, generous pork and chicken filling. Our main courses were, once again, amazing. The Pad Siew was richly satisfying with tender, succulent chunks of pork and wide rice noodles in a savory sauce. The roasted duck in red curry was a marvel of crispy skin and moist meat - half a crispy roasted duck in a Thai red curry sauce with onions, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, pineapple and Thai basil. Normally, I am not a fan of fruit in my main course, but here it perfectly complemented the spicy curry and the rich duck. The longevity of this restaurant (it was here when we moved to Beacon 19 years ago) is clearly a function of the professional and friendly staff and a kitchen that continues to turn out precisely prepared Thai cuisine. Looking back, I have to say that Sukhothai has gotten better over the years - not something that happens very often. read more

Third time around! Really enjoy Indian, Mediterranean, Greek, Italian, and Turkish. Food/Drink: Entrees were amazing, everything tasted fantastic. The flavors and the smells were intoxicating! I had the shrimp curry and Indian pizza. Bread and Apps: The garlic naan! Small dish of the veggie samosas were to die for. Dinning Area: Pretty large, Prices: Relatively cheap. Small appetizer, 2 entree, and a drink I got away for $42. Parking: Plenty of space, private lot. Bathrooms: Bathrooms were clean and smaller in size. Atmosphere: During the weekend lunch rush, pretty busy, but not unmanageable. I did not wait long. Staff/Attendants: Staff overall was Great, family owned and operated I presume. From the friendly welcome we received when entering, to our server Angela S. who was very helpful with the selections in the menu. Even the owner came out of the kitchen to deliver our appetizers. I have never tried Thai cuisines before , but tonight that has changed. I'm officially a Thai food enthusiast. We started with the vegetable spring rolls with a sweet and sour sauce then onto the entrees. I had what they call a Red Duck in a medium red curry sauce. The sauce was fantastic, the Duck had that crispy skin and the Meat melted in your mouth. My wife had the yellow curry shrimp. The sauce also medium kick had a fantastic flavor, our daughter who treated us went with the Crispy Duck which she's had before and keeps ordering each of her 3 visits. Entrees are FANTASTIC. My wife has always had a sweet tooth so she had to have the Brownie sundae which she said was delicious. The ambiance gives family meal to Date night. Not sure why we keep coming back here. It is one of the few Thai places in the area and the atmosphere in the restaurant is OK. Super pricey and the portions are moderate. Service is hit and miss, depending on when you arrive. I remember when they first opened years ago and the place was buzzing and top-notch. This place is always right up there when we're looking for a change of pace in beacon and has been our standard for really really good Thai food in the area. Truth be told you can get the same dish three or four times and they'll be great but they're never going to be the same because all the different talented chefs have a different spin on how they're going to make it. I'm not mad because it's great every time. Service is always prompt and will help you out if you want the spice adjusted or have any questions. Plenty of seating and very open dining room. I don't like writing these posts but this had to have been one of the worst - if not the worst - Thai food I ever had. I've had Thai food in places such as India and, the Middle East. And this just couldn't hold up. We shared a curry dish, pad Thai and a basil chicken dish. I tried the last two. The pad Thai - which honestly is one of those dishes you expect any Thai place to be at least half decent at - was pretty tasteless. The tofu appeared to be of such poor quality that my dining companions, who otherwise never throw out food, tossed it out. The basil chicken dish - which I've ordered at many Thai places - was similarly underwhelming. I could taste the basil but something just seemed off. I don't know if it was the quality of the ingredients, if a commonly used ingredient was missing, but it just was not good. For all this, I paid New York City prices for an otherwise pretty lousy meal. (None of my dining companions liked it) read more

Food quality has gone down and the prices have increased. Had the beef dunken noodle and it was covered in oil. The noodles were broken and the beef was low quality that they charge an extra $2.00. The food tasted bland and it had raw tomato as an ingredient. Vegetables were cheap and bland no spice. Bill was over $70 for two with tip. The waitstaff are great but the food has declined in quality. The Thai ice tea even tasted off, like the cream was going bad. I most likely won't return. read more

Since I wrote my original review, I've been to Sukhothai numerous times, and I have to say, I'm a real fan. Their pad thai is different from any other Thai restaurant I've been to; their vegetable spring rolls are light and not greasy. Also really like their summer rolls, and pretty much everything I've had there. I also had never had a papaya salad before and loved it! Some tips I'll offer: 1. I like spicy food -- but they don't kid around there! If you ask for medium, you are going to get walloped. I'd recommend mild, and sometimes you get a little heat anyway. 2. If you're not a big seafood person (I'm not), be sure to ask them to leave out the fish sauce. They're happy to do that, and I personally think it only makes the already-delicious dishes taste better. Enjoy! read more

The service and location elevates the ratings, friendly, attentive and not as crowded! As far as the authenticity of the food you have to look at the location where your eating Thai--far from Queens (the top Thai spots). Anyways, I read the reviews and steered clear from the noodles! The Penang curry was good creamy slightly spice/sweet and Thai platter had good crispy spring and shrimp rolls. I'd come back for the ambiance and a reliable meal. read more

Came by here for lunch, and it was pretty quiet only two others beside me. So I saw no one at the counter and then someone appeared and sat myself. My server give me the menu and asked if knew what I wanted, am like in my head no since I have actually view the menu first. I found the service so far disengaging at this point. So took some time deciding since even though a small menu wanted ti get the best I could. Plus I did find it weird my waiter gives me my water and said it's electric fried, really the vibe was weird. So I had the pad nuea man hoi, basically beef stir in oyster sauce in laymen terms. The beef was very tender and well seasoned, plus a fair portion, all veggie were great, liked the crinkle cut on the carrots and definitely would loved more mushrooms and less onions. Loved the sauce / broth and definitely made the rice better by spooning over it. I enjoyed my menu and have try here again for the other stuff. Also on a side note, this first place I been too rather then giving you a receipt, they give you a card reader with your chargers on it and slot for cards, definitely different. Also I actually liked this place interior unlike others here, it was done tastefully and I appreciate it was bit darker in, since where this place is, the sun was beaming powerful. Last thing, after I paid I noticed the server was way more engaging and asked me how did I enjoy the food and that should visit here again, plus we got into a conversation that was then just me placing my order and paying. The restaurant ambiance is lovely, the servers are friendly, and the restrooms are clean, so the dining experience in general is great. But the food itself is not great. It's okay. It's just not very flavorful and kinda greasy. I guess that's how people here like their Thai food? There is a vegetarian section of the menu, and they're happy to make other dishes vegetarian (eg making curry without fish sauce). We had moved from the area about two years ago and were back in Beacon for a visit. So we thought we'd go to what was our favorite restaurant in Beacon. OMG IT WAS HORRIBLE! I mean REALLY horrible. They made a simple Thai meal too expensive, and it seemed they gave huge portions to try and make up for the exhorbident cost of the horribly prepared dishes. From the over salted and over sweet dumpling soup, to the oddly prepared Pad Thai, it gave the impression that the chef had little experience with Thai cuisine. Sukhothai has been a Beacon Staple for two decades. For good reason. The service is prompt; the dining room spacious - and the food . . . some of the best Thai food I have had in my life. Also consistently wonderful. From the Thai-Basil Duck to the simplest Pad Thai. Don't forget the soup, veggie spring rolls and the amazing deserts. The main road has a nice strip you can walk to check out all the sights ... We stumbled in this restaurant and decided to try! It was a little pricey for me but for the area I was not surprised in the cost. The one entree we ordered took about 20 minutes to prepare and the restaurant was very slow. Got the chicken drunken noodle with the spice level of Thai Hot. The portion of the food was great and filling. The chicken was pretty bland and dry. The noodles were also not the correct width or texture that I'm used to when I go eat Thai food. For the flavor of the food, I felt that the spice overpowered the flavor of the noodle. I read the reviews on Yelp and Google, and despite the warnings and red flags I had to be my own judge. I was a glutton for punishment. I am happy that I was, because despite how much I LOVE Thai food and wanted this within walkable distance location to be my go-to, it will sadly not be. If it is authentic Thai food that you seek... If it is flavor that you are wanting... If it is spice, (not even spicy as in hot spicy) but spice as in seasoning that you are anticipating... You will not find it anywhere. Not in an appetizer, soup, noodle, rice or protein. We ordered a ton of food because that is what Thai food nuts do when we feast, we order the entire menu and we share it. You will not find a single spice which is absurd for Thai. Not even a salt and pepper shaker on the table can save you. None. If you are expecting what myself and the 5 other Thai food nuts that had dinner the other evening were, you will be very confused, disappointed and requesting a large bowl of sriracha to make it palatable. We doused everything in sriracha. I am not exaggerating. Even if you're not a fan of hot sauce, a bit salt and pepper would have been just fine.... barely. Do you like drunken noodles? Well, I'm sorry to tell you. You will receive a bland tomato based spaghetti. Confused? So were taste buds and my eyes. My senses were distraught. Even my little sister who eats EVERY and ANYTHING picked over her food. She said "the chicken doesn't taste like anything". And there you have it. For us, never again. Food is good, therefore two stars, but the guy who answers the phone is always rude. We always get "it'll be an hour and 45 minutes" when we call for take out, to which we plan for. Instead of taking our order, this guy puts us on hold forever, then doesn't pick up when you call back. When we actually can place an order it's ready in 30 minutes, so why the lies? I hope the owner reads this someday because whoever this guy is that answers the phones is ruining your word of mouth business. We are not the only people in town who get this type of service. Thanksgiving week. Ordered 1.5 hrs ahead. Got there. Stood about 5 minutes at cash register.No one was there. Finally a man goes by. Gave him my name. NOTHING THERE. He says "we never pulled the ticket". so I asked "how soon can you get it ready (a 2 family order)". answer: 'Well theres others ahead of you so it will be a while'. "give me a time idea":...answer: 'You just are going to have to wait'. so left for Golden Buddah. friendly people. They filled the order. It should be noted neither place was jammed with people....so its the aTTITUDE!!!! Where do I even begin... I got to be honest, this is one of the worst Thai restaurants we've been to. My girlfriend is from Thailand and we have tried just about every Thai restaurant around. When we walked in I felt a little confused. It says it's a Thai restaurant but it doesn't have that feel at all. The only indications that this is a Thai restaurant are a few Buddha pictures and a tacky rice paper screen. The lighting sucks, probably to mask their unsatisfactory food. We tried a variety of things on the menu and none of the food was impressive or even good. The food isn't authentic, it is almost like it's own Thai-American cuisine. The sticky rice was hard and not cooked properly. They used pad Thai noodles for the drunken noodles which astonished me, the noodles again were undercooked and barley had any sauce. It tasted like someone put canned tomato sauce in it, no joke. The only decent thing we had was the tom yum. They put bell peppers in the soup which was bizarre! The 4/5 star reviews were probably from trendy hipsters that don't know good Thai food, there's not exactly a lot of competition in the area. The waitress was nice but the service was pitifully slow. The place was barren, only one other table was occupied. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our food. When we finished and asked for the bill she gave it to us in less than 20 seconds. They are slow to serve and quick to ask you to pay up. Also, the food is pretty expensive for the Duchess area. We honestly felt ripped off, we got over charged for crappy food we couldn't even eat half of. This place is a disgrace to what should be a flavorful and delicately balanced cuisine. It's a shame because the location gives it the potential to be a gold mine. It's a tourist trap; take your money once and never see you again type place. Go to Golden Buddha instead. It is not far from Beacon, and they will give you delicious and authentic Thai food with great service. read more

Shrimp and chicken never tastes fresh, rice portions are measly, Tom yum soup is super sour and again doesn't taste fresh. Noodles are amateur.
