Never had a bad meal here. Drinks are good (selection is small). Staff is friendly and wait time is usually minimal.

Visit: 12/19/2025 We brought our group of five to Tomo Asian Fusion, for our Son's 22nd. Birthday. We were crammed into a wraparound booth, that was way too tight for five people. Most of us ordered Hibachi Combo meals. I had the Hibachi Steak with a side of scallops. I asked for the steak to be medium rare. It came on the edge of well done. The scallops were slightly underdone. The meals were not complicated orders. The food should've had no issues. This was my first time at Tomo and I will probably give them another try and order something different. For now, I can only muster up a three star score for Tomo. read more

Nice atmosphere, we have eaten at their sister restaurant in Middletown on numerous occasions and always had great service in house as well as take out. When Tomo opened here we showed support on the first day, we have brought friends from out of town and done our best to support local. Recently we have had two bad experiences with the service (lack there of) with the second coming a night before my daughter's birthday while out with a few of her friends from her old school a few states away. In my younger years I worked in the industry from a dishwasher to a corporate opener, bartender and server so I understand when it's busy and the place is full that some things unfortunately may slip, but when there are five other tables and a bunch of people standing around our order was all wrong and then when we commented on it, we were given a dirty look and a deep breath of discontent or disbelief. The server actually made an audible sighing sound.. I also understand that in a sushi restaurant, such as this, the food occasionally comes out as it's made in order to maintain freshness, but 6 people eating all sushi and nothing crazy it took 2.5 hours start to finish with me being the only person to have a beer, which means we weren't sitting around drinking and chatting. It was a bunch of 17 year-old girls, my wife and myself. He then took the food off the table without asking if anyone was done and wanted anything else and instead of boxing it up he threw away a small feast, worth of sushi rolls random things that the girls were saving for later on when they watched a movie. The drinks and refills took about 30 to 40 minutes and the table was never pre-bust just that final take everything off there and throw it away. The bill was around $270 typically on that I would tip 60 bucks he got 25 and he's lucky he got that It's kind of a disappointment to have a place that you have supported its owners for years be so close yet so far the prices are a little bit, How can I say it, Eastdale... That was our second of two bad experiences that I don't even need to get into the first we don't do the three strikes and you're out two times when we've already spoken about the first time with the management and that manager was on duty with all valid points, not the type of people that eat their steak and shrimp and want their money back . Tuna roll that's obviously food dyed with red, staff that could give a sh*tless about your experience or the service, no checking in. The hibachi plates are massive and not tasty at all, with low quality meat that match the low quality fish. I would not go here again nor advise anyone else to. read more

Our first time here and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us often but not too much. We ordered the hibachi lunch specials with the clear broth. That broth was the best tasting anywhere. So much flavor we couldn't believe it. The dish came with plenty of rice and delicious vegetables. I actually liked the vegetables much more than the salmon. Honestly the salmon was overcooked and thin. The chicken looked delicious and I wish I had ordered that instead. The dish also came with two sauces that were good. One was a hoisin based sauce and the other was like a bang bang sauce. Overall I would definitely recommend...just not the salmon. read more

He had passed by this place and it caught his eyes. He knows I love hibachi food. I particularly like sashimi. Unlike other hibachi places where they cook table side. Here they don't. Assuming it's not big enough for that. You order and they bring it to the table The clear soup has a bit of kick to it (spicy ) I ordered the hibachi with shrimp. Shrimp was a bit overcooked Here the hibachi is with rice only. Other places they give you rice and noodles. But it's still good But don't know if I would come back at least not for the hibachi. read more

Asian fusion spot right in Eastdale. Came by when everything was closed for the night on a Tuesday evening so it was nice to find a place that was open and still had food options. We're talking 9:30 pm, nothing crazy time wise. The restaurant was pretty empty, just the waiters and the bartender hanging out. The bar area was pretty big and spacious I can see this being a busy spot on the weekend or a cool spot to get a drink and some Asian fusion food. For vegetarian options they had plenty! I ended up going for the sushi roll with sweet potato and also ordered the cucumber avocado (with sushi paper instead of seaweed). It wasn't anything that wowed me or left me desiring more but it totally hit the spot. For some reason, the rolls did feel a little heavy. It was such an easy order and I'm so happy they quickly prepared my food and I was able to take it to go and enjoy it from home. Always love trying new (to me) spots. Absolutely Terrible! I will never go back here! My cousin and I went to Tomo Asian Fusion, the waitress showed us our seats, never saying a word, she only gave us our menus, ordered our drinks and meals and didn't return until we were ready to pay, the entire time there were employees sweeping and mopping around us while we were trying to enjoy our meal. When the check came we paid, but didn't leave a tip,which the waitress didn't deserve for her poor service. Walking to the door the manager stops us and commands to know why we didn't leave a tip, in front of all the other customers and employees!! I was beyond disgusted and insulted it was completely unprofessional! I was so shocked I couldn't even respond and let him know how rude it was of him. The worst part was the manager nor anyone else thanked us for dining there! Tomo Asian Fusion lost several customers because of this and I will be making a complaint to the superior of this restaurant. Food poisoning... I should've known better to eat a salad out because I've gotten food poisoning once before from a salad in a restaurant. The scallops were fishy... however, I have to say the chicken dumplings and the udon were very tasty. The ambience was good and I have to compliment the service... Excellent. The waitress we had for the visit was very polite and pleasant, always asking if we liked the food and if we needed anything else and making sure to clear finished plates. The place was very clean and I will Say it's pretty cozy inside, nice to enjoy a quite lunch. For the food, the clear soup was good, just right temp and a good for place to not making super hot. Spicy tuna roll was alright, I enjoyed it, but not much difference from other places. Now the dream roll on the other hand was amazing, never had lemon slices on sushi and it work, and roll was very packed with filling and smears of sauce on the side, got love a place that makes dishes like art for eyes ti feast on. Hurricane shrimp, never had anything like this before but it also definitely a new favorite to me, I can only imagine the crust was deep fried rice noodles with two shrimp rolled each end. A++ for creativity in it, also shrimp was well wrapped and did not shrink to nothing during its frying. Dipping sauce for it was good, savory and tangy. The basil filet mignon entre is the best cooked steak I've ever had, seriously will blow your socks off.

The food was good and portion sizes were plentiful. We had the Shumai, hurricane prawns and jalapeño sashimi for appetizers. All very good although I feel the avocado and jalapeño sauce overpowered the sashimi a bit. We also had a shrimp tempura roll and a New Orleans roll which were both great. Service was on point the entire meal was. Looking forward to trying some of the entrees and udon next time. read more

Tomo is now our go-to sushi spot after visiting about 4-5 times since December. The quality of fish is nearly the best we've had outside of the city and cocktails are well-made. Because their pricing is comparable/slightly higher than other local places but for better quality fish, it's hard to justify going elsewhere. I can't speak to their hot food or cooked dishes because we only get sushi or raw items. My only recommendation is that it is tricky to go on a Friday or Saturday without a reservation so either plan ahead or expect to wait. On one Friday night visit, my husband and I were able to be seated right away but when we went back on another busy Friday night with our son, the restaurant was already packed so they offered to seat us at the sushi bar to avoid a 30 to 40 minute wait. I wasn't a fan of sitting at the sushi bar as a family because it made it harder for us to interact plus we had less space than we would at a regular table plus it was a busy walkway behind us for staff. It's nice to see offerings of high-quality options such as sea urchin and fatty tuna. I've dined at Michelin star sushi restaurants in Manhattan and am a sushi snob about local places but really love Tomo. read more

Our table of five enjoyed our lunches...noodles with seafood and a Japanese roll...but were sadly disappointed with our server. She was impatient and abrupt in taking our orders and seemed to be in a rush for us to vacate the table. She was quite the opposite of friendly or gracious. Tomo offers your basic classic and special sushi rolls, a lot of other items on the menu that you would expect to find (Tempura, Teriyaki) if sushi is not your thing, and servers who are capable of answering any questions. First time we went some of us had Sake and some of us had bottled beer...and that is the way I suggest you go for libations. Our party of three had a few of the special drinks (Zombie and Singapore Sling) a few days back and they were very light on the alcohol and heavy on the sugar. All in all, a dependable spot, but I wouldn't drive more than 20 minutes to get there. read more

I stop to have dinner with a few friends who do not eat sushi. They were very impressed with the quality of shellfish and how it was cooked. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the sauces were delicious. I had the sushi, their shrimp tempura melted in your mouth. I will definitely recommend that you stop by this restaurant before you go to the theater for a show or visit the many attractions Poughkeepsie has to offer. read more

Ambience was good, but dark, even during our noontime lunch. Seating (chairs) were heavy and hard on the 'rear end'. Dining area and restrooms were very clean. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, but require some training. Our Server came to the table two times asking if she could remove our plates when it should have been very obvious that we were in the middle of consuming our lunch (strange). She removed my dining partner's soup bowl before she was done with it without even asking. They certainly didn't need our table as th entire restaurant was vacant except two tables. The Server tending to the neighboring table got into a very long and loud conversation with the neighboring diners about her experiences in China. So loud, that it really carried loudly to the point of 'spilling' into our lunch conversation. It was very distracting and interrupted our lunch. She finally had to be pulled away by the manager! Doesn't she have something else to do? We aren't Sushi eaters, so we began our lunch with chicken gyoza appetizer. Pan fried (there is a steamed option that was not offered to us), they were chewy. We then moved on to a chicken broth based ramen with pork belly, which was satisfactory but a bit pricy at $18 for a broth based lunch special. We were never offered the lunch specials. Nor was there anything on the table offering lunch specials. It was on a chalk board at the front door. We had to ask our server. My dining partner ordered the hibachi shrimp lunch special at $15. A fair price. The starter was a clear broth cup of soup. Tasted fine. The shrimp (6) entree arrived on a plate with a mixed veg side and a fried rice side. The rice was very nondescript, with little flavor. The veg of broccoli, onion and green squash was pan seared, and over cooked and obviously had been sitting around for a while, looking and tasting really tired, colorless, and scorched brown. The onions were 'dead'. The broccoli was mushy, and after tasting it, I suspect it was previously frozen. And finally the shrimp. They had decent flavor, but were over cooked, tuff, and chewy. This was an over all forgettable lunch experience. With one soda added onto the bill, the total after tax and tip was $55.00. You actually get better food at a Chinese takeaway. I recommend 'skip' and find someplace else. read more

I have come here with my family twice and food and ambiance was nice. Not the best sushi, not the worst. Today I arrived with my husband and 2 daughters and received the worst service I have ever experienced.
