Update! While I stand by the delicious poke bowls here I wanted to compare their lunch special with the local competition. I often order the 3 roll lunch special at the Iron Chef Sushi restaurant that is located just 2 minutes up the road. Before this I regularly ordered from red ginger or Itzumi. I work in Newburgh so I'm always searching for and comparing sushi lunch specials for the best deal and quality. *Iron chef vs seafood village comparison* The 3 roll specials seemed overall identical. They are both advertised at $12. Though after tax Sushi village charges exactly $13.49 and Iron Chef charges $13.98 So in price Sushi Village barely wins They offer the exact same items in the special: 3 rolls, a miso soup, and a ginger salad. So in bang for buck it's a tie! When it comes to sushi selection Sushi village offers many more unique roles than Iron Chef but Iron Chef offers the specialty volcano roll (limit 1 per special) So in variety I'd say Sushi village wins (but just barely) When it comes to the amount of food given Iron chef clearly gives you more Miso soup but Sushi Village makes wayyy bigger rolls than Iron Chef. The salad is the same. So in quantity Sushi village is the winner! When it comes to wait staff they both have their issues and advantages. I've encountered super nice and super nasty employees at both restaurants. They both really need to make sure whoever is representing their restaurant be respectful because no one wants to pay for a meal and be made to feel bad about it. I will say that iron chef has a new guy at the front desk who is so extremely cheery and nice that I find myself gravitating back. That said, in the past a woman at Iron Chef was so shockingly rude to me and tried to gip me out of money and I considered never going back! So when it comes to waitstaff I'd say it's a tie (and they both could use some work!) The final and most important category is quality. The red ginger salad at Iron chef is the clear winner. Both soups are the same. Despite being excited at the much more generous sized rolls at sushi village the flavor was just no comparison to Iron Chef. 20 minutes after eating a spicy tuna roll there I got Scombroid fish poisoning and ended up in urgent care. This is due to red meat fish being mishandled and left out at above 60 degrees. I instantly got a migraine and started turning red with hives. I thought I was having an allergic reaction but turns out it is histamine poisoning. While i have been there many times, I would never go there again. it is not even the only thing that has happened to me. I have to be gluten free and this place is not sensitive to that. I had stated that I cannot have soy sauce and the owner still gave me the salad dressing several times which has soy sauce in it. This restaurant has absurdly disgusting service. I have never been so appalled in my life. I have been to this restaurant multiple times for sushi since they opened, and attempted to order door dash today. I put in each comment section for every roll I ordered that I wanted spicy mayo, and that it was okay to charge me - not only did I not receive the mayo, but I called back and was told they would send it, was then charged for each and every side and given an attitude the entire time. I made sure to specify at this time that they would arrange the door dash, and that I would only be charged for the mayo. One hour goes by and nothing comes, I call back and am screamed at by the owner that I did not pick it up after telling her the first time I work at an ER and definitely cannot do that, as well as them establishing already that they would set up the door dash. Not only did she scream "NO" repeatedly on the phone, but when I asked to speak to a manager she said she was the owner. I requested a refund at that point, because I don't want the sushi without the sides that I ordered (which might sound dramatic but I just wanted the condiments with it like I was promised and at this point the sushi has been sitting for like two hours) and also I had just been screamed at so i'm pretty furious, she starts screaming "YOU WILL NOT GET FREE FOOD", like i'm some type of freeloader. Then she proceeds to continue yelling so that I cannot get a word in. I will never go to this place again, and I highly recommend that you don't either considering the utter disrespect from this so called manager. I am not a person that often writes nasty yelp reviews, I can promise this is my first, but seriously this place dropped the balm and did not take accountability. I used to get sushi here after the gym and I will NEVER EVER BE BACK AGAIN. Just a follow up... a coworker of mine ordered a combo from door dash despite my warning of caution not to, they got berated by the woman working there that the lunch combos offered by their restaurant on door dash are not available and that it was her job to cancel the order. She was yelled at just as I was and told "your money, your problem". Eventually after contacting her door dasher who said he was waiting outside and being refused the food, she was told by door dash her money will be refunded in 3-5 days. This place literally sucks. It was without a doubt the most bland food I've ever tasted and the rice / veggies were just as gross with no flavor! Absolutely no flavor to any of it!! Then there was the house salad that came with it and finally I thought they can't mess this up. I usually LOVE the ginger dressing that almost EVERY sushi place I've ever gone to makes it with. Welp to my surprise again I was disgusted.
