I ordered a sushi roll and 2 hand rolls and my girlfriend and I shared agedashi tofu and harumaki. The harumaki was yummy ! The tofu was okay (the sauce was too salty) and the texture was odd. The rolls and hand rolls were very bland and the rice / seaweed was cold and chewy which was no good. The complimentary hot green tea was great though! Service was very inefficient since our server kept forgetting our order; we had to repeat our order several times and it took a very long time for the food to come out. During the meal, we had to ask for napkins and ask for refills on water/tea as well. Disappointed since I saw a lot of positive reviews for this place. We hadn't been here in years, but I was wanting some tteokbokki. Located in the Village of Fishkill on Route 52. The large menu has a lot of sushi options, but that's not what we were there for. I got my tteokbokki (tuk boki) which was spicy but delicious, and tho it was an appetizer, it was enough to have been an entree itself. We got tako balls which were also really good tho they could've had more octopus in them. Then we had some ra myun which was a large serving of yumminess. When I try a new sushi place, I like to experience the speciality rolls. Toro has a nice collection and they are tasty. The miso soup is good. The fish is clearly fresh. It's my favorite in the area from Poughkeepsie to Fishkill. Enjoy! read more

It is a very large restaurant but not many people were there. The hostess wasn't there at first so we sat our selfs and got menus (we came at 2:30 though) but the food was so good it was hot and it came out so fast. Recommend to anyone looking for Japanese or Korean food! read more

Amazed to find a Korean restaurant in the middle of Fishkill. Came with a large party on a Saturday night after spending the day at the waterpark. We all ordered different things - some sushi, some noodle dishes and some Korean stews. I had the tofu stew which was spicy and hearty without being too heavy. After indulging in sugar and fried foods all day it was great to have something healthy and satisfying. The contrast of the cool and refreshing cucumber, radish and kimchi banchan with my stew was wonderful. Service was friendly and efficient. We didn't wait long for a table or our food. Unlike most fusion joints, Toro does both Korean and Japanese exceptionally well. Really good sushi, and the Korean stuff is on point! I appreciate that they are a local, family run place and they do not crush you with prices. Do I have two minor quibbles? OK, ok. One - their booths are tight. If you are a party of 4 and get seated at a booth, expect the quarters to be, well...close. And service can be a bit up and down. That said they have plenty of staff, you just might need to flag them down every so often if you need something (they tend towards the "we'll leave you alone to eat" model of service rather than the constant "IS EVERYTHING OK?!?" model.) read more

So, let me begin by saying I can't comprehend why this place doesn't have a perfect 5 stars. I don't give out 5 stars very freely, but it was easy to do in this case. Had my family on a 2 night vacation based here in Fishkill, and we arrived this past Thursday night while it was fairly dark, not much we could do with the rest of the evening... and the weather was poopy. Sushi seemed a fine choice, and I'm so glad it occurred to us. To start with, the place is located in a shopping strip with plenty of parking. The inside of the place is just fine, and the service prompt and attentive all the way through. I got a miso soup that was as good as the very best I've ever had. I'm a miso soup snob and very particular about it. This is as good as it gets. It was so good, in fact, I had another for dessert. I had some typical salmon rolls that were great, my daughter had 2 special rolls that we never imagined she would finish (but she did), and the wife tried these delicious mussels... I normally don't eat mussels but these were really good. Their shrimp tempura was just a little crunchy... delicious sauce. In the end, my wife tried a bite of my yellowtail- scallion hand roll, and decided to get one for herself. I was jealous when I finished my own, so I got another, as did she, and I followed up with an order for a third (not to be outdone!). I don't know why, but that yellowtail hand roll was the gem of the evening. We couldn't believe how awesome they were, and at that point we weren't even hungry anymore. It was pure gluttony. So sue me. I wanted to return at least once more before we went home, but I wound up with a damned cold. Next time FOR SURE! read more

Very quite and peaceful vibe here, definitely relaxing. The staff overall were very nice and welcoming, made sure to get my food over in a timely fashion and asked how I enjoyed the food, basic stuff but always appreciated a warm approach they do. Now got to love a huge menu with many choices and even pictures of all the menu items so you know exactly what you're getting, particularly if you figure out by name alone what it could have. The crab on fire roll was fresh and just right amount of filling and sauce drizzled on top. Did not need to dip that roll to add, since it stands on it in flavor. Though could been spicier. Now the spicy pho was pretty spicy and well seasoned, no miss steps on it, a fair amount of seafood and definitely a generous amount of rice noodles, I definitely had to it take to go, from noodle overload. What can I say about Toro, mom and Pop Korean and Japanese restaurant. The food is constantly good, lately they lack some of the dishes from the menu. The portions are still good, but their prices have gone sky high on some of their dishes. The service is always good. The owner is on the ball and makes sure that the patrons are well taken care by her staff. The food here has been good since it opened. When I was 15 (now 30) I worked at a bookstore nearby and really like this restaurant. The ambiance is nice as well. Unfortunately management could be better, which is why this is 3 stars. Tonight we came in for my husband's birthday and the kitchen did not make two of our party's orders (the waitress read back our orders, which she also wrote down, so I know it wasn't her). We waited for about fifteen to twenty minutes after getting 3 of our meals (party of 5) to see if the other 2 would come out. After flagging down our waitress, she checked with the kitchen and then she told us they had forgotten two of our meals. We waited another 15 to 20 for the two other meals to come out. Listen I know these things happen. We tried to enjoy our dinner best we could with the staggered meals. I expected them to make it right when the bill came. My husband, who was the very last to get his meal, ended up just having it packed shortly after getting it. Everyone else was done with their food given the 30+ minute delay on his and another member of our party's meal. He had some of mine. It wasn't a great experience. When we got the bill I expected some sort of courtesy as that is pretty standard when a place messes up like this. You don't need to comp a meal but take an appetizer off or something. The point of going out together, is to eat together. We didn't do that and if we hadn't taken initiative to get our waitress after a long delay, we would've never gotten those two meals they had forgotten. So my husband talked to the manager about the issue we had and she just responded, "Well you got your food." And then begrudgingly took of 10% after that. Her attitude and lack of hospitality made this crappy experience even worse. We will likely never come back here, especially for a special occasion. I'd still recommend the food. And so as such, we can be sushi snobs - since we have had so much high quality good sushi. So we were so surprised by how good this place was only given that a) we ordered it as takeout, b) the food wasn't priced at something ridiculous, and c) this was a combo Japanese and korean spot. The sushi and sashimi were pretty good. It was the right portion of fish to veggies to rice ratio in the sushi. The veggie tempura was actually more of a korean veggie pancake mixed with kimchi onion etc than the typical Japanese veggie tempura of tempura yams or tempura taro. However it was still pretty good! We enjoyed the food very much! Covid wise, we called in for take out; it was stress-free. They had a plastic partition to the cash register when we talked in. Paid through there. I frequently repeat my best places. I'm also guilty of ordering the same because it's so gooood. After a long drive from MYC, I went to Toro for delicious plum wine, and hot sake. I ordered their shumai because it's truly delicious and fulfilling a desperate need for dim sum. Also ordered their fried tofu, which was covered in sweet and sour sauce. I'm not into sauces yet this was delectable. Ordered their lunch shasmi box. And that was a hit! Came here for lunch alone. Friendly staff. Calm and peaceful atmosphere. Wooden furniture and decorations, newly renovated sushi bar, but booths are slightly dated. Ordered sashimi bento box and tamago (egg) sushi on the side. Almost immediately after ordering, I was welcomed with fresh, hot, miso soup. Tamago was refreshing and perfectly portioned with rice. Sashimi fish was frankly borderline satisfactory and the accompanying rice was not seasoned to my expectations although it was at an appropriate temperature for sushi rice. Edamame and side serving of California roll were ok and ordinary like many other restaurants, unfortunately. The side salad was not fresh at all and very, very watery. Lastly, the single fried dumpling was a very nice (and needed) addition to the meal. I had spicy mayo on the side for light dipping and it was pleasantly different from other sushi restaurants - possibly more Sriracha or spices added to avoid the typical, overly sweet sauces found elsewhere. I had to use the soy sauce and some of that delicious spicy mayo to spruce up even my unseasoned rice... Overall, a decent place for lunch, but not the best place for sushi. Total about $17 plus tip. Next time I'll try their Korean dishes, which I'm hoping is supposed to be their main specialty because guests seem to continue to visit and I'm assuming the restaurant's sushi is not always what people are craving. read more

I'm sorry i just don't think this sushi is very good. There are about three or four sushi restaurants in the area and this certainly is not the worst but it's also not the best. The sushi is just ok. The staff is weird and stands by watching you eat like servants to a king waiting and watching... the vibe is just off... also I asked for Saki recommendations and the waitress said she had no clue because she wasn't old enough to drink and instead of asking someone else that was it. What the item includes is listed at the top of its section WHAT I GOT: Dwenjang jigae PROS: Flavors are pretty okay and everything was cooked nicely. The jigae definitely came with a nice kick that burns literally your entire mouth but it's nothing terrible. And I absolutely suck at spicy food. Portions are pretty large and the ambiance is lovely. Super quiet and quaint with simple decoration. The customer service was also pretty friendly and timely! They cleared away my bowels literally minutes after I finished eating and were attentive throughout the meal. I also enjoyed their beansprouts that are included in the banchan. CONS: Honestly, if I'm comparing this to other Korean food I've eaten, it's more like 3 stars. Nothing special and just average. There were copious amounts of shrimp. They let me watch the preparation of my rolls, as we sat by the sushi chef. I'm very glad they use disposable gloves. Was weary when I saw a previous review. The chef was not as unhygienic as mentioned. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. She and her husband run the restaurant. She is very humble and always has a smile on her face.
