Blue Spice has been on my to-do list for literally years, and Monday was finally the day. I stopped by for lunch with my top-tier chum, a native of the Kingdom of Sussex who has been here before and has spoken highly of it. I don't know why I was surprised to discover this was in a strip mall, but that's on me. A nice one, at least. The place was relatively busy but we were able to secure a table easily with zero wait time. Pleasant vibes inside. I don't mean this as an insult at all but I was expecting more ethnic decor in line with the restaurant's menu - instead, it's pretty Americanized and feels like a classic suburban NJ establishment. I liked the painted brick on the lefthand side that has Blue Spice's logo/sign on it; spiffy. The bathroom was also a high point, which is...not something I say often. It was very clean and smelled nice, and I liked the dark cruise-ship lighting vibe. We decided to split the scallion pancake app, which was an excellent decision. I work in the city and regularly have this item from a place in Chinatown, and I honestly thought this was better, mostly because it was thicker/denser than what I'm used to. Super tasty and would get that again in a heartbeat. Giant portion as well - we split the pancake, which was roughly the size of a small pizza. My chum had leftovers there, I did not; so it goes with us. I've had a few mediocre chicken katsu experiences of late, so this seemed like a chance for redemption. I ordered the Akiko Curry entree, which was their spin on chicken katsu curry. Honestly wasn't my favorite. Again, a HUGE portion here and was only able to finish about 60% of it despite having a pretty legit appetite coming in. And the presentation value is excellent as well, as far as that goes. This could easily just be a personal palate preference, but I wasn't crazy about the curry itself (which had a weird tang to it) and didn't resemble the standard curry I'm used to with this dish. Also, as you can see from the attached, the curry is basically on the side of the dish, separated from the chicken and rice. Because of that, the chicken is on the dry side, which is my primary beef (pun?) with the item to begin with. So a miss for me, but I could see why other people would like this (and apparently do). The service was excellent, full stop. Our waitress was very nice and personable; she had strong command of the menu and you could see her consistently engaging with other patrons throughout our meal as well. She took several group photos so this is apparently a Kingdom of Sussex hot spot for that, which I wouldn't have guessed. She was so good both of us remarked on it multiple times during the meal, which is a rarity. But a great example of hospitality markedly improving an experience and making what was already an overall positive situation that much better. Huge marks there. Would definitely come back but would explore other parts of the menu once I feasted on the scallion pancake. read more

We ate there yesterday evening. For a Saturday night very few patrons. I had the glass noodle beef dish. What arrived was a HUGE plate of noodles which I had to search through to find maybe a handful of small beef slices. Value for money ZERO! Appetizers were just OK - overall nothing special here. What a delightful dining experience! The dining room is bright and well decorated. Tables are far apart and the noise level is just right so conversations, across the table, are easily heard. Our server was helpful, patient and knowledgeable, recommending dishes that she thought we'd enjoy. We started with Scallion Pancakes. Ooh! They were so tasty and perfectly crispy. I had the curry dish. My chicken cutlet was crispy and delicious. The accompanying sauce was good but I think it could have been more flavorful. My husband had Tofu Ramen Soup. My mom found this place and it's a staple in our family. The galaxy lemonade is so good, i can drink it in one gulp. The purple color is created when they come and pour it over the top. Kids love it and find it so fun. Service is excellent! My mom can't eat vegetables (they upset her stomach) and so they give us all shrimp instead. It's perfectly fried. The shrimp fried rice is so good too! It's not overly greasy but still has the perfect flavor! I can eat the whole thing. The place is clean and the staff are inviting. For the area this is the best Asian fusion you're going to get. However I wasn't happy with my dish, the food just lacked depth and I felt like it was just a plate of hot noodles. My wife had the udon soup with fried shrimp and that had good flavor to it. The birth was very good I'm just not a fan of udon. The best food I've ever had, no exaggeration, it's mouth watering good. I wish I could give this place 7 stars. From service to food and ambiance, I have not a single complaint. For apps, we got the chicken dumplings that were fresh and cooked to crispy perfection. and the boa buns literally MELT IN YOUR MOUTH, hands down the best thing I've ever tasted (we got the bulgogi ones). For entrees we tried the Akiko Curry which was (again) perfectly cooked with rich flavor. I also got the KFC with cheese fries, perfectly crispy and paired with a unique sauce that is ADDICTIVE. Wow! I never would have guessed that my sister and I would find such a great Korean spot near our hometown upstate NY. I came up for a visit and we were just kidding around about getting Korean, such a surprise to us when we saw this spot opened less then 30 minutes away. We immediately headed over for lunch. This place could fit into Korean Town no problem, it is so modern and cool inside. Very stylish, and bright because it has an entire wall of floor to ceiling windows. The staff is so nice here (we've been back many times), every time we come the people are friendly and we can actually ask them about the menu and the restaurant without feeling like we are taking too much of their time. On to the food. Absolutely loved the kimchi pancake. Wonderful tang from the kimchi, fried to be crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy in the middle. Also ordered the Dak-Galbi Ban-Sang set. What a great find! I have been looking for a great meal and finally found one. Everything I had was excellent. The very cool multicolored lemonade was tasty. For apps we got the Korean Fried Chicken (of which I am a huge fan) and this met my expectations. We also had the chicken dumplings. There are 5 choices for the dumplings, but we went Ruth the chicken only. Great flavor and nice dipping sauce. I got the Beef Bibimbap and was glad I did. Great flavor on the beef and the combo of veggies added a lot to it. Mixing it all up with the rice just made it that much better. My wife got the Umami burger. I ended up with half of it. It was a perfect medium rare (too rare for my wife). I thought the burger was good. It had good flavor, but would go for mare traditional faire if I am ordering. I can't believe we only just discovered this place. The food is incredible and the hand made specialty drinks are delicious. Our server Kira was very nice, informative and welcoming. We shared the kimchi pancakes, and each had an entree. We opted for the bento box lunch special so we could try a little bit of everything. I had the KFC and my husband had the bulgogi. Both bento boxes were flavorful, the KFC was super crispy and the bulgogi well seasoned and juicy. For drinks, I had the yuzu lemonade, which I could not stop drinking, I believe there were candied pieces of yuzu at the bottom of the glass, and my husband had the royal pear cinnamon punch, tasted like fall, also delicious. For the food I had the charred pork plate and the flavor was very good but the pork was fatty. My boyfriend had a pineapple chicken and the chicken was very strange and so tough you couldn't even chew it. He also got beef fried rice to try. I felt it was just okay and a little greasy. Not a bad place Korean place. We had dumplings to start (which were amazing), and then the KimCheez Bites (which were kind of like Korean mini grilled cheeses)... then I had the Bibimbap with Steak. To be honest, the Bimbimbap could have used a LOT of seasoning, and it wasn't a true traditional version - I was so looking forward to the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot, but alas ... it was not there (since there was no pot).
