Went here tonight for dinner. The most unfriendly staff and waiting a long time (30 mins) for service. The restaurant was dirty and be careful as not to trip over the bikes on the way to the restroom. The chef was drunk as he took shots of sake while preparing our food. BYO ALERT! We were able to bring some beers and I was able to have my favorite beer (Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale) with my favorite type of food. Went here with my wife and we had a blast. It was a slow Thursday night and they ended up giving us a whole hibachi table for ourselves, which was very nice. We ordered the chicken and it came with fried rice, vegetables, 2 shrimps, a soup, and a salad. The food tasted fresh and flavorful though nothing innovating. This is just your nice ol' hibachi spot in the middle of the mountains... But it's a good one at that. We also ordered some sushi and it was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed their shrimp tempura roll, I am known to be a fan of those, and when I find one made with love I have to toot its horn. Seriously though, this place should not be that slow on a Thursday night. Not complaining about getting my own table, though. read more

Went for dinner last night for dinner. There was nobody to greet us at the door. No biggy. When I found owner/ manager he was less than friendly, I mean downright hostile. Maybe he was having a bad day. He seemed put out that we brought our own Sami to be warmed up. He warmed on small bottle and walked away, never to be seen again. Never offered my guests anything to drink ) they didn't like sakii) . The chef had to go search him out. Really made me uncomfortable. He made a comment about us not being his regulars. What!? Four stars because food was fabulous, I have msg allergy and had no problem at all. Huge plus. They keep the place cold and we literally sat in the dark eating appetizers until hibachi chef came. Well , that's all folks. So, dress warm. Be prepared to have great food in a very unwelcoming atmosphere. read more

Can't really rate the food because we never got any. Friday night 745, maybe a little busy but come on ... would have been nice to at least get a drink. After our drink order was finally taken but we were still being ignored at the hibachi table we set a timer. Waited 10 minutes still no drinks and food order not taken. Finally grabbed the baby and the hungry teenagers, started walking out and the lady showed up with the drinks. Too little too late. Place was completely empty. Only me and my guest. Food was terrible. Filet had that stale old steak taste and the scallops were severely over cooked and rubbery. Everything was extremely salty. It's very long in between seeing the waitress so you need to get everything you need at first or you won't see them for some time. All in all I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

We've eaten at Yamato Hibachi twice in the past two months. The first time we dined at a regular table and selected from the menu provided. We had tierrachi salmon and tierrachi chicken. The only complaint was that they served a tiny portion of veggies that had a thick sauce. The sauce was overwhelming in quantity for the amount of vegetable. There was too much sauce on the entree also. We decided that we would not be trying the regular fare again. Our next visit was for the Hibachi. The wait staff are so soft spoken that the din of the chefs at the other table(s) make it a struggle to hear what is being asked of you. Be ready to ask for a repeat. The chef put on a good show. The usual noise with the cooking utensils accompanied by the veggie toss into your mouth etc. were accompanied by a "don't singe your eyebrows" flame display. This was a bit overboard if you have large eyebrows. A definate flash point. There were three of us sharing the show. We selected shrimp, chicken and fillet mignon. We all agreed that the portions were good. Actually, there was too much to eat of the rice and veggies. There were two things that didn't meet with our normal expectations for a quality experience. The food was too salty. All three of us agreed with that evaluation. The other thing that was anoying at best was that the wait staff were bringing out plastic "take home" containers when one of us was still eating. What's the rush? There were no customers waiting for the table. We arrived at 5:30pm and they were moving us out at 6:10pm. Definately no for the casual dining experience. They have no liquor license, but you can BYOB if you like. There is a package goods store next door. read more

I have been here twice now with my boyfriend for hibachi and it's been amazing both times. I know that a lot of people are skeptical because it used to be a sketchy Chinese restaurant but I assure you the food is great and the atmosphere is awesome and very quaint. This was my second time here, the first was several years ago. I came with a group of 5 others, 2 of whom have never experienced hibachi before. We had reservations for a cooking table. Pros: we were seated promptly. The rice was great. That's where it ends. We had to ask several times before we all got our waters. A gentleman at our table not in our group specified he had a shellfish allergy yet they brought out the food with my scallops touching his chicken. The cook was so quiet we couldn't understand a word he said. He didn't put on any kind of show like I have seen at several other hibachi places such as Mt Fuji in Hilburn NY or even Benihanas(sp?). It was actually quite boring. The steak tasted ok but we all disliked the chicken. The shrimp and scallop has so much salty sauce on them they were inedible. Later that day almost all of us had upset stomachs. We will not be returning here ever again. read more

Decided to go to this place on a whim. We order veggie sushi rolls and fried tofu. The tofu was beyond greasy and was covered in fish pieces. The fact that it came covered in fish pieces was not part of the menu description. Since I do not eat fish or meat I had no choice but to throw it away. I've had better hibachi food.... eastern garden down the street in much better but it's just a sit down restaurant with no cooking in front of you. Number one complaint is that we made a reservation on Mother's Day and it didn't matter whatsoever. We still waited an hour to be seated. Being a Teppan Yaki chef myself I always like to search out new spots. Tammy the Tornado and I stopped in on the way down from High Point on a foggy day in October. Starving to death we ordered big at lunch time in an empty restaurant. Onion soup starter was very good as was the salad. Dressing was awesome. Felt right at home as I heard the wife yelling at the husband in the kitchen. Hoping he cooks better when he's pissed off. Almost burnt my face with his first fire. Danny boy was our chef and very fun. Threw broccoli in our mouths but Tammy sucked at it. Melt in your mouth filet mignon was one of the best I've ever had and I've had a lot. Ask for spicy mayo for dipping. Scallops and shrimp pulled off at just the right time. As quick as he came he was gone. Tip these guys well because they cooked their face off for you, literally! Been here 4 or 5 times! Food was always EXCELLENT! the filet mignon is DELICIOUS! We took the kids recently and one of my children is a very picky eater. They were kind enough to heat up the food we brought with us so he could enjoy dinner out with the family. Extremely accommodating. We really appreciated it.
