Great mom and Pop restaurant. Always delicious never disappoints. Our one and only choice in Sparta read more

Amazing sushi, small atmosphere and easy to hear the people your with. Average prices. Our server was quick and our food was ready fast.

If you love Sushi, you really need to get your sushi here and nowhere else in Sussex County. The Sushi is so good, It's actually a destination and worth a drive here. My wife and I have had sushi all over the country, including Manhattan and I can tell you without any hesitation, this is the best sushi you will have anywhere. Of course, try the volcano roll, but also the eel, and the usual favorites. And, run by a delightful couple. I know all too well the other establishments in Sparta area and while they are acceptable, you literally have the best of the best right here in Sparta. Go for it. Recommended you do not order past 6:30 PM. read more

I try to think in terms of tiers for my review, sorta like big leagues, semi-pro and collegiate. Such things as superb quality ingredients vs solid fresh ingredients. Anyway, for its level, this shop puts out excellent sushi and the servers are fantastic, including with small children. The tempura is well executed. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi for two. Would gladly return. read more

Best sushi spot in the area! Always super fresh and delicious - never disappoints! Owned by sweetest couple! 12/10 recommend!!

Always satisfied with this business!! The owners always recognize me cause i'm there so much The sushi is always fresh and presented with nothing but excellence. The special rolls are to DIE for, my favorite is the sumo roll. Definitely recommend this amazing hidden gem!! read more

This is really good sushi. Went here for lunch today and was very impressed. I had the Sashimi lunch which consists of Miso soup & 12 pieces of assorted sashimi for $10.95. I was so pleased with this dish. It was simple but the Miso was so flavorful & fish was top notch quality, well worth the price. Next up was 2 Chef's Special Rolls. The Tropicana Roll which has spicy tuna, spicy salmon & crunch, topped with seared albacore & scallions and The Lake Mohawk Roll which has spicy tuna with eel on top. These were AWESOME. These are the rolls to write home about! They were so fresh and at the right temperature so all the flavors really popped and at $12.95 each, very reasonably priced. The meal was ended with 2 pieces of complimentary vanilla mochi ice cream! Ok the reason for 4 stars has nothing to do with the food. I was surprised that for a sit down restaurant they did not serve your drinks, you had to get up and retrieve drinks yourself. Also, there was no tea offered which is usually a staple in Japanese restaurants. Service in the beginning was a little spotty also, but it seemed like I was the first customer of the day. As lunch progressed service got much better. This is a great choice for sushi when in the Sparta area! read more

First time eating here. I've had their sushi on a few occasions( my daughter comes here for take out and sometimes shares some with dear old dad) and found it to be quite good. Located in a mini strip, the place is rather small but cozy. They have bar style seating for those that would rather sit by the sushi staging area. The table area looks like it could accommodate about 18, maybe less since I didn't take the time to count chairs. We were greeted by a woman and a man who was preparing the the delicacies on the working end of the bar. We got a table in the far corner and looked over the menu. We settled on two appetizers, the Shumai (shrimp dumplings) and Usuzu Kuri (sliced white fish with ponzu sauce). My wife also ordered Tokyo special salad (sashimi & mixed vegetables in a spicy sauce). I ordered the chicken tempura roll and the dynamite roll. Like most of these small sushi places in the area they're BYOB. We were there for a short while and even though eat in customers came and went I noticed that they did very well with the take out. I now know why my daughter comes here for her take out sushi, it's convenient, it's quick and the food is delicious. For take out this place is great, place your order grab and go. If you're looking for a dining in experience with intimacy this place may not be it. There are two other sushi places nearby and it looks like all three are doing well. read more

Best sushi we've ever had! The place is small but it's got a lovely atmosphere. We will be back.

Hands down the best sushi in Sparta and maybe even the best in the state! Very kind and friendly service, the place is really clean and quaint, and the food is just delectable! But to top it all off, the quality is consistent every single time. I would give it 6 stars if I could. This is definitely the go-to place if you are in the area. read more

Excellent sushi and AMAZING service. We ordered a variety of sashimi and sushi rolls. The fish was incredibly fresh. They had a variety of unique rolls including vegetable and fruit rolls. Ordered take out from this place. They remembered everything. They were super nice. The food is just not that good. Sounds weird, but it's bland and even the ginger was subpar. We ordered the rainbow roll, Rockaway roll, and the Alaska roll with some white tuna & salmon sashimi. Just didn't live up to the expectation based on the pretty positive reviews. read more

I lived in Sussex county for like one year. I really love sushi and the way the sushi is made. I always try to find a sushi place near my house. I found this Gem place right after I moved to Franklin. I had tried Wok n sushi and Sushi Ya before coming to this place. I had to say Tokyo Sushi is one of the best sushi place that I've visited in my whole life. The owners are super nice and treated us ( me and my fiancee' ) really well. He knew that I love sushi by the way I enjoyed his Uni sushi and Ikura sushi pieces. He offered us some of his unique foods ... I still didn't know the name :(. Then I kept coming to this restaurant every two weeks. The owners always treated me like a special guest. Sometimes they offered me free new sushi or free miso soup. I really enjoyed watching the owner prepare my dish. I think they want to keep their restaurant that way. Small but full of love. Not too much customers but everyone leave the restaurant with a smile and satisfied. Even though I'm no longer live in Franklin NJ ( I moved back to California ). But one of the thing that I regret not doing is coming here and say goodbye to this beloved sushi restaurant. If anyone read my preview and come to this place. Please tell the owners the asian couple that usually came there, always sat at the bar, the guy really liked Uni and Ikura. Say goodbye. read more

On my way to my usual Sparta lunch spot, Cafe Pierrot, I passed by Tokyo Sushi. Of course, prior to walking in, I checked out the Yelp reviews which were all positive (although I'm always a bit skeptical when reviewers with no other reviews gives an establishment 5 stars.) Either way, I ventured in. Pros: clean, fresh and delicious roll (I order two Flower rolls), and excellent spicy mayo (ordered on the side). Cons: It ain't cheap. Two rolls ordered from the "regular roll" menu and a bottle of water for $17 bucks and change. In hindsight, I should've stuck to the lunch specials. Also, they were really stingy with the soy sauce and ginger, which I ran out of after I inhaled the first roll. Overall, I'm a fan! -MJ read more

Low grade tuna and salmon used for the rolls! Avoid this place! Disappointed, Asian Island was closed!

Great selection the food was very good. Cute place inside very clean ordered the bento box, the taste was fantastic will definitely go back

Love this place. Way better than Sushi Ya. Service is always friendly and I believe the sushi tastes better here.

This is our go-to sushi place. We've been here a few times and the rolls are always delicious and fresh. Service is excellent.

I have been looking for a decent sushi restaurant near Sparta for quite some time now and this is the answer. The fish is beyond fresh and the owners are extremely friendly. You MUST try the Tokyo Salad, its incredible and its a chefs creation. Jackpot roll is amazing as well. Really, anything you try here you will not be disappointed. Check this place out right away! read more

I'm torn. Really. I think Tokyo Sushi deserves 3.75 stars. As such, I'm rounding up. I have been skeptical about sushi for a loooooong time. Once you have amazing sushi, you can instantly tell what's great and fresh, and what isn't. Rundown: Ordered several rolls and a couple of a la cart pieces for freshness critique. Got a piece of tomago, too. Tropicans roll was awesome. Very fresh fish, great flavor combination. Noms away. The yellowtail and salmon sushi pieces I got were excellent--high quality, fresh fish. I really, really enjoyed it. You can just tell that this is a cut above all the other bleh places in Sparta. No idea where they get their fish, but it easily brought me back to the numerous places in DC and NYC I've been to. Bro got the firecracker roll, also a big winner. Same for the lobster roll my dad got. My mom ordered one of their "no rice" rolls--wrapped in cucumber instead of rice--it was fresh and really refreshing. Again, fresh fish. The only non-winner of the bunch was the tomago. I thought it was overcooked and a little crusty. Sushi Taro (DC), who I've given 4 stars for their great fish, had amazing tomago. So they rank above. BUT, regardless, Tokyo Sushi is a winner. Now, whenever I go home? I have sushi 5 minutes away. read more

For a sushi place in Sussex County, this is actually the best sushi I have ever tasted! I eat a lot of it just because it's something I crave literally all the time and this was great! My only problem was the only time we saw the waitress was when we ordered our food, received our food, and needed our check. That's my only complaint. She wasn't very attentive. It was very quiet while we were there and it was a good experience overall. read more

How does everyone love this place? I went in for a lunch special. Wanted two spicy tuna but was told no, one HAD to be salmon. Then was given a Dixie cup with miso soup. The "spicy" of the rolls was just spicy mayo on each roll. It definitely wasn't disgusting, but does not even deserve 3 stars. read more

By far the best sushi AND service in all of Sussex County, rivaling many sushi restaurants in NY City - no joke! The place is run by a family - husband (sushi chef), wife (manager) and son (server). The fish is the freshest I've seen since Maui, the creations are wonderful, the soups are traditional and truly hand-made. We've yet to eat at Tokyo without them offering us a special treat on the house. What an incredible place!? Pick up some Sake or some Asahi and get ready for an incredible feast! read more

Definitely my favorite sushi in northwest NJ. It's fresh. It's authentic. This is a small family place with only a half dozen tables. I've got to believe most of their business is take out. BYO sake (or wine/beer) if you wish. There's not much on the menu if you're not into sushi. But they didn't have a problem with us bringing in chicken nuggets for our daughter from the BK next door. read more

Tokyo Sushi - Sushi Bars Near Me - Sparta, New Jersey

I have been going to Tokyo Sushi for many years and I have never once been disappointed. We have tried the assortment of sushi places throughout Sussex County, including the two others in Sparta, and this is by far the best of them all. This is a "quality over quantity" type of restaurant, which I do not mind at all as I'd rather spend a little more to get the good stuff. The owner and sushi chef does some beautiful work. His wife is always very friendly and remembers our favorites. The eldest son still works there occasionally and goes out of his way to say hi to us. This adds to the appeal as it gives it a cozy atmosphere. read more

This was the most fresh, most melt in your mouth sushi I've had for as long as I can remember. We just moved here from Long Island, and having tried a bunch of really good sushi spots there, I have to say that Tokyo Sushi stands out as the favorite, hands down! It's not only the best sushi in this area (without a question, don't go anywhere else) it's some of the best sushi that I've tried, period. Absolutely phenomenal and it's one of our regular take out spots. read more
