I've been frequenting Asian Island for almost five years now, and I'm so surprised I haven't taken the time until now to pen my thoughts. This is hands down the most consistent and high quality sushi restaurant that I've encountered in the northern NJ area. I keep coming back, despite a few other great options that are actually closer to me. I tried a very expensive venue on Rt. 10 in Whippany this past week (you can guess which one), but I will always prefer the Island. Fresh rolls with so much variety, you can get lost in the menu. The Monster Symbol Ball and the Tuna Dumplings are just to die for - so much robust flavor. Their standard rolls and sashimi are fantastic, and they will deliver as much wasabi as you request. It's on point and fantastic. The chefs behind the counter are never too busy to give you a nod and a courtesy greeting, and the wait staff are just so pleasant and willing to make your dining experience best it can be. BYO wraps it up, and they are happy to give you beer or wine glasses as needed. Only thing our group didn't care for was a fatty tuna special, and they were so concerned to hear this they offered to take it off our bill. That's customer relations right there! Please try this place! I've been wanting to also try Sushi Ya, but I just cannot bypass Asian Island to do so. It's a real problem. You need to try this place!!! read more

Dinner in Sparta, New Jersey... My friend and I were driving past the post office when I saw Asian Island in the corner of the strip mall. I asked her if we could take a look... sure! She saw that Bubble Tea was advertised in the window... she wanted one, so we went inside... The environment was really beautiful and welcoming! Staff were very friendly and helpful! I ordered the Japanese Wonton and shrimp noodles, unagi sushi, and ikura sushi. Everything tasted delicious and had great presentation! Did not expect to have really good Asian food in Sparta, NJ to be honest. But this place had tasty plates that ranged from Japanese, Chinese, Thai servings and I love that I could have a little bit of everything should I decide to! The Thai curry was huge! Very tasty hot and sour soup, and their salmon teriyaki hit the spot. Very friendly even an hour before closing they did not skip a beat. Food came out pretty quick. It's a cute little place and if I ever made my way back to Sparta I'd come here. If you are a Spartan and craving Asian food, this is a good place to treat yourself! read more

Sashimi was not fresh. Chef's special rolls we ordered were too big and messy to eat (Central Park and Italian Scallion).

Ambiance ***is acceptable. Service ***poor. The Asian waitress made me felt like I was a fast food counter placing an order. Food****we ordered the Pad That shrimp and the hibachi beef and shrimp. The pad Thai was too sweet, with mini shrimp and very thin rice noodles. It was an over sweet mushy mess. The beef in the hibachi was tough and over cooked the shrimp was tasteless and looked strange with no shrimp texture. We did not have the sushi or sashimi. The restaurant could have been cleaner. Asian Island is sadly still closed for dine-in, however, we keep going here for take-out to support this amazing business. They allow one person to come inside at a time, where you can pick up and pay for your food. They take both credit cards and cash. Some of our go-to favorites include: miso soup, seaweed salad, fried rice, and sirloin steak hibachi. Main entrees always come with a nice side salad and soup. The food here is really good. I feel this is the best sushi in Sparta. I had a sampling of Things. The Black Angle roll, Shrimp tempura roll, Beef fried rice, Beef Satay, and Chicken Satay. Every item was fresh and delicious. The specialty rolls were large and filling. My order was for pick up and everything was packed up nicely with care and it was ready on time. I will certainly go back here. I would make a suggestion for the resturant which is the entrance check out area. It is very cramped and people coming to eat in, leave, pay, or pick up all need to traverse a single area. There just isn't enough room and it's uncomfortable. Thank you for a great experience. First time eating here. Have to say was impressed that the sushi was definitely fresh. I regret not having tried them earlier. I use to goto Sushi Ya but it is hit or miss if the sushi is fresh. I can tell that this place cares that their sushi is always fresh. I got salmon sushi rolls and super fresh meat cut perfectly too. And went back the following night for dinner. Great dinner. Straight facts: ordered food at 6:30 was told should be ready in 40 minutes because they were a little busy. (Which a 40 minute wait is normal for this place on a Friday night) Got there at 7:30 was told it would be another 30 minute wait. Left went to the Stop and Shop picked up some things for the house and came back at 8:10. Waited ANOTHER 20 minutes. Was offered tea, declined. This is the SECOND time this has happened. Would have not been mad if they were like "hey, we're very busy it's gonna be about at least an hour wait". Food is very good and staff is extremely kind and friendly. Sashimi is good here. Heck, all the food is good here. The food is always fresh, & the atmosphere has a cool lounge feel to it. The service is always attentive and quick, and all plates are presented beautifully. It's also a byob, I actually like that it is. I can bring my own wine and or saki. I just feel like it is missing that pop that makes a place "awesome". I have come here numerous times and have never had a bad meal here. The menu & the decor are just getting a little tired. This is probably a 3.5 star place. The decor is dark and a little swanky for a strip mall sushi joint, making it a nicer date spot than the other sushi restaurants in town. The sushi was pretty good, and they were generous with the amount of fish in the rolls. The beef negimaki was pretty tasty as well. Good sit down service however takeout can be a little slower compared to Sushi Ya or Hunan Wok. Prices are also higher than that at the other two restaurants in Sparta however it is also better, however I would go to Sushi Ya for Sushi instead of here. Would recommend any of the hibachi dinner entrees or the teriyaki entrees. read more

Place is Average. Nothing GREAT. Nothing HORRIBLE. The Service- is ehh- it is clean and the sushi was fresh which is important when eating Sushi of course. one of the meals i ordered came out cold and we asked for all out sushi with brown with and it came out white. it is just the little things that wow me when dining like paying attention! it is very important especially during these times. anyway what we did eat that was prepared for us aside from the cold food was decent. they just need to step up their game with service and they will be in good shape. read more

The food has improved quite a bit and Asian Island is now our go to Asian restaurant in the area. Reccomend the Pad Thai, the Asparagus Maki, the Beef Negamaki and the sushi. I'm so pleased they have improved the quality this restaurant. read more
