My daughter attempted to pay for her food using Apple Pay, and the payment was processed twice on her end, with the money being deducted/held from her card. The employee told her that neither transaction had gone through on the restaurant's end. Instead of recognizing that this could clearly be a payment processing or technical issue, this woman proceeded to treat my daughter as though she was intentionally trying to avoid paying for her food. What makes this even more unacceptable is that my daughter never took the food and left with it. She handed the food back, remained there, and patiently waited while trying to figure out what happened with the transactions. She then waited for me to come back into the restaurant with cash to pay for the food. Despite all of that, the woman actually made a comment along the lines of how "crazy" it was that my daughter supposedly "didn't want to pay for the food" and accused her of trying to steal. That accusation was completely unnecessary and inappropriate. There is a huge difference between someone refusing to pay and a customer attempting to pay twice, having the transactions show against their card, and the merchant's system apparently not receiving them. That is a PAYMENT ISSUE that needed to be investigated--not an excuse to accuse a child of stealing. My daughter did exactly what she should have done: she did not leave with unpaid food, she returned the food, she waited for the situation to be resolved, and she waited for me to return with another form of payment. After the way she was spoken to and accused, I no longer wanted the food at all. I am not comfortable accepting food from an establishment after an interaction like that. Payment systems malfunction. Transactions fail. Authorization holds happen. Those situations can be resolved professionally. Accusing a child of stealing when she remained there trying to resolve the payment issue was completely unacceptable. Would have given a zero star if it was an option!!!!
