4 stars...just a little more attention to detail and I'd punch it up to 5.. I was in the mood for dumplings and Palace dumplings has a 4+star rating on Yelp. Prices seemed reasonable, and location is prime for easy parking. The restaurant was pretty full when we arrived around 6p. We were told to sit anywhere, so we looked for a comfortable two top. We found one in the back, along side some counter top seating. The server delivered the menus and promptly asked for our beverage orders, honestly the way she said it I expected a full bar but no.. just bottled soft drinks, water and tea. I decided on a pot of green, a steal at $1.50/ pot or person. Refills on hot water graciously given throughout dinner. My wife was happy with water. We ordered the Chicken Lo Mein ($11.99,) Shrimp & Cabbage Dumplings ($15.99) and Pork & Cabbage Dumplings ($11.99.) The Lo Mein came out like the speed of light and piping hot. The Pork and Cabbage Dumplings followed right behind, it was then we knew, we ordered way too much food, and we hadn't even received our Shrimp dumplings yet. The servings are large for the price! What a good problem to have right!?! LEFTOVERS! We had enough time before the Shrimp dumplings came out to consolidate plates as the table was quite small, with the two serving plates of food, my tea pot and cup, both water cups, a napkin holder and a large wooden holder for sauces. Our table was at capacity. I looked at my Wife and knew she was thinking the same thing... "next time we'll do take out!" Same owner as the Palace Dumplings in Wappingers Falls, this place has the same menu and quality. I love the sauce choices they have available on each table. I came here by myself after shopping. The dumplings are delicious and come out fast. My waiter was very polite and quick, it was a great experience. Just a side note, for sanitation, they now have chopstick extensions for single use. You may notice the plastic chopsticks are shorter than usual, that's because they are missing the tips. Don't use the plastic chopsticks as they are, you will find a pair of short wooden sticks in the paper wrapper, these are for the ends of the chopsticks. First time and it's Monday night. The ambiance is not fancy but clean. Our server was great and very helpful with all the different styles of dumplings. The dumplings were delicious and nice and hot (temperature). The dumpling dough is nice and thin; not doughy like other places. I didn't think they were much different than other places but still yummy. We were not overly impressed with the fried rice with vegetables. We were expecting more vegetables than peas and carrots. Best dumplings north of Flushing. Order them steamed. The Mala Tang is devine as well. It's my new favorite. The Zha Jiang Mian is also wonderful. It's not called that on the menu but you'll impress your server if you order it by its Chinese name. read more

We were so looking forward to this restaurant' working out. Simple interior design so far so good. However that's where the good ends. The dumplings were filled with water which took away from their quality. Ivy and dumplings in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and even up here in Hyde Park and never had a dumpling that had water inside of it. I understand they probably need to boil them. However, they need to be completely closed because it was not an enjoyable experience. In addition, the chili oil on the table was not cleaned. It seems like forever and the place is relatively new. We got there just after opening on a Saturday so you can't tell me there was multiple people there before us and that was a bit of a turn off. Then we ordered their "soup dumplings" same price for only six, most places give you 8. Only two of them had any real amount of liquid/soup....in most there was only a drop as you could see they were cracked and leaked any "soup" that was in them. It's a small place, run by a northern Chinese woman and it seems that everything that is presented to the patron is authentic, made in-house, fresh and outstanding in every way. This is not a place for a 'dining experience'. It's simply good food. Having said that, the premises are well maintained with a bit of Chinese ambience in a contemporary setting, it is clean, staff and wait service are excellent. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get. We have been a fan of Palace Dumplings in Wappingers, but this is much closer, and the food (and some of the cooks) is basically the same, but the physical restaurant in Poughkeepsie is much nicer. Parking is better in Wappingers, but is adequate in Poughkeepsie. Looks like they are looking to expand the menu some in Poughkeepsie, it will be interesting to see how that works out. read more
