Literally the best fucking Chinese food in the area, consistency is amazing, they always make the food quick, always open late. Very very formal and quick with conversations, and just over all a super convenient place! The food is pretty amazing, I eat here way more than I should but yeah they always deliver a good ass lil meal, great prices too! This place is a typical Chinese 'take-out' restaurant. There are some tables available to 'eat-in', however. But if you do so, you will be sitting among some boxes of restaurant supplies that arer neatly stacked and orderly. Not a problem for me. However, my business with this restaurant is largely take-out. The food is Cantonese style, and it is tasty, freshly made, large portions, and priced well. One thing I want to emphasize about Happy Wok is that all the food is prepared in an open kitchen, in front of the patron. My observation is that the place is absolutely spotless and clean. Having worked in a restaurant in my younger days, I know how to tell the difference between a clean kitchen and a dirty one. Further, I have observed that even their refrigerators are perfectly clean, and their perishable food supplies, meats, vegetables, broths, etc., are properly stored. I wish I could agree with the glowing reviews here, but that wasn't my experience. My wife was satisfied with the chicken in garlic sauce, but my kung pao chicken was - except for the too-heavy red chili pepper burn - pretty much tasteless. Heading to the city, I stopped for a lunch break at Happy Wok, which is located in the A&P Center plaza on Route 82 North near the Taconic State Pkwy interchange. This is a typical strip plaza Chinese eatery, which is an order at the counter place with open kitchen and table seating for eating in. The menu offers the standard Chinese dishes and items including Szechuan, Hunan and Cantonese special dishes, as well as a diet menu. The prices here are reasonable, most items priced under $10 and a few items priced under $13. 28 Lunch Specials ($4.60-$6.25) served with pork fried rice and 20 Combination Platters ($7.35-$8.25) served with pork fried rice & egg roll. I ordered the L11 Chicken Lo Mein ($4.95 plus tax) with Pork Fried Rice for takeout. The food was cooked fresh to order on the sizzling woks and the pile of chicken lo mein was packed down tight in a round plastic container, ready in 7 minutes. The chicken lo mein was good, which had the right proportion of vegetables (carrots, cabbage, onions), sprouts, bamboo, soft boneless chicken strips and soft lo mein noodles (not just all noodles), slightly overdone and not too salty. The pork fried rice (light golden color) was decent which had a firm texture with roast pork cubes and onions. There was enough carbo-goodness for two normal sized lunches. Very happily surprised. I have been searching for a half decent Chinese restaurant in the area. I tried this today. We ordered pretty basic, can't go wrong dishes, that many local Chinese restaurants can't even get right. Pork fried rice, moo Shu, chicken in black bean sauce, dumplings and general tso's chicken. All were excellent and would definitely go back. So happy to have found a local spot to satisfy my Chinese food cravings!! read more

This is the most solid Chinese take-out we've found in the area. Sometimes, the only dinner that will do is a bowl of Wonton Soup, an egg roll, some fried rice, some scallion pancakes, some dumplings, and maybe some General Tso's chicken - yeah, there's nothing really Chinese about any of these things, but they are classic Chinese-American take-out -- and sometimes, that's more than just OK! And Happy Wok does all of these things well. Tasty and satisfies the Jones for Chinese completely, unlike so many of the other take-out places in the area. 17 thumbs up. read more

I used to live close by, and I have to say that the quality of other chinese food I have had from other restaurants since moving away pales in comparison to Happy Wok. Happy Wok always has good cuts of meat and their sauces have the right balance. The food is never too greasy nor too dry. Their vegetables are fresh and give the right balance to all the meals. Maybe since moving to NYC I have frequented too many low-end Chinese restaurants, because none of them are as good as Happy Wok. All I need to do is go visit my father who still lives near Happy Wok and try their food again to reconfirm how good their quality is. Don't get me wrong, Happy Wok is still Americanized Chinese Fast Food, not authentic chinese food, but it's the best in its category around. read more
