I'm originally from Los Angeles and out here, we have a Chinese restaurant on almost every block. Every Angeleno has their own go-to Chinese place; I had yet to find my own until I ordered t from Great Wall. The only problem was it was literally on the other side of the country! I don't know how you did it Hyde Park, but you've managed to find the best Chinese chefs and get them to work in your little town. I ordered pickup from this restaurant twice while I was here on vacation and each time the food has been consistently on point. If you know what you like off of a general Chinese menu (Orange Chicken, chow mein, etc) , you can go wrong ordering the same dish from here. The wait time to pickup was about 30 minutes which was very reasonable considering we ordered for a group of six. The pricing is a little more reasonable than most Chinese restaurants, especially for the amount of food you receive. My favorites are the sesame chicken, combination chow fun and the Hot & Sour soup. read more

Service here was very friendly and polite, felt appreciated as a customer ordering, something worth mentioning. So the hacked multi flavored chicken, was pretty good and definitely different for sure. The chicken was so tender and juicy, never had chicken like that, plus it was mix of spicy soy sauce braised pieces and a peanut butter sauce pieces. It was good, but could less of that peanut butter sauce. Szechuan dumplings with hot oil was definitely into having, but my enjoyment was mixed since instead of being spicy it had that peanut sauce in it and an like I understood the chicken multi flavored but these dumplings were supposedly be straight up spicy. The filling was great and dough was not rough. Egg drop soup was great, exactly what I was looking for. For the shrimp and broccoli lunch special, wish had more shrimp and definitely more sauce since more than half the container was rice, otherwise what shrimp was broccoli that was in it was cooked perfectly and not overcooked . read more

These reviews are so weird. My family and I have lived in HP for 8 years. We have tried all of the Chinese food spots you all know, and in Poughkeepsie as well. Great Wall is our favorite. The young man at the counter is always so personable and friendly, asking how your day is going, commenting on the weather, and making sure you get your sauces! They are fast and efficient. We have never experienced greasy food as one other review mentioned. We are very picky eaters, coming from culinary backgrounds as well. It's authentic New York Chinese food and we love it. Their portions are huge. They do not skimp like some other nearby places have been doing to cut costs. Not here. I crave Great Wall when I'm not in the area and I'm forced to go somewhere else! This place always did have a nasty SEWER smell when you walk in, which was one of the reasons we didn't continue going there. My husband called it "sewer wok"! We moved out of the area for a while, but now we are back, so I decided to try it again ~ and I'm sorry I did! First of all, the lunch specials were way too expensive ~ much more than another place just down the road, and it's totally not worth it. I got chicken and broccoli with white rice, and 3/4 of the dish was filled with rice ~ hardly any chicken and broccoli for over $9!! It tasted awful, too ~ the sewer smell seeped into the food (probably from the water) and it was quite DISGUSTING!!! The chicken was dried out, and the broccoli was barely even cooked. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone!! ALL of the food was overpriced and judging by the item I got, it's totally not worth it!!! read more

Speedy service and delicious food. Okay, so it doesn't have the best ambience for dining in, but Great Wall is by far the best take-out Chinese restaurant for miles... Everything is fresh...our go-to dishes are the steamed dumplings, shrimp in garlic sauce, sesame chicken, chicken and broccoli, steamed chicken with mixed vegatables, and vegetable chop suey. We do not recommend this place. We called in an order of roast pork and green beans and an order of egg rolls. The young man who took the order hung up before letting us know how long it would take and how much it would be. My husband drove in to pick up the order only to find out that we were not given the roast pork--only the green beans. We also only received one egg roll which was terrible ( doughy without flavor). No chopsticks or even plastic forks were included. This establishment is rude and incompetent. read more

I've been going here for year, my mom has been going here for decades! This is my favorite and only Chinese food place I eat at.

I've only been here once so far. I can say that the lo mein is NOT too oily (which is rare for Hudson Valley Chinese spots), the wonton soup broth was very nice; clear and fresh tasting. The shrimp rolls were ok but they only had one shrimp in each of them. When I get shrimp rolls at Golden Wok, there's always three in each one, so you get the full shimp effect in every bite. I also ordered the wontons in hot oil. This was a tasty surprise. Usually in most spots, you get steamed wontons with chopped scallions and hot chili oil. At Great Wall, they serve it with the chili oil AND the sesame noodle sauce. This is a must try by all means. It's different and quite flavorful. I'll be back soon to try the Szechuan side of the menu. Sometimes Cantonese is too plain. read more

I have been going here for years. Loved it until recently. The egg roll was small and looked like it was squashed, the lunch special I got had almost no meat in it (like a very small amount) and loaded up with rice. Not to mention the new containers they are using. No more storage container for you. They have definitely cut back on quality and quantity. I'm so sad to report that the quality has gone steeply downhill! They are still friendly and fast, but the food is simply not as good. For example, the dumplings used to be nicely filled with pork, veggies and herbs...nice crispy outside and just perfect doughiness. They've changed something within the past months, the dumpling are definitely not the ones we've had before! Shrunken hard filling, no bright specks of green...way too much dough. The lo-mein and other dishes just seem greasier and less vegetable filled. We thought it was maybe a one time thing, then we thought it was just the weekend cook, but after a bunch of tries we've decided it's just not as good as it used to be. read more

I placed my order and they told me 15 minutes. I didn't think anything of it and waited in my car. Saw a couple of people come after me, place their orders and wait outside. After 15 minutes I went up and waited for my order. She told me it wasn't ready. Other people who I guessed ordered by phone got theirs first and by that time I was waiting 30 mins and so was everyone else. We were getting impatient. The lady made me pay so I wouldn't go away and told me 5 more minutes. Everyone else got their food first except for a gentleman and I who ordered chicken because they were "making it fresh" which if I had known they were cooking it from scratch I would've not ordered or have done anything else but wait outside. It was a waste of time, overpriced, and they gave me a free coke as if that would make it better. Only came because the other Chinese place was closed. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

We have eaten here several times and have had many dishes. Shrimp was fresh and vegetables were tasty. Fresh and not greasy. Yum.

I don't eat much Chinese food anymore, just got to the point where it was a little too greasy for me, but on those rare occasions I do get that craving to chow down on some dumplings and lo mein. Great Wall is pretty obvious to anyone that goes driving down Route 9 and is noticeable by its neon lit sign of a bowl of rice and chopsticks. The food is kind of what you would expect, it's decent take out Chinese food. I will say this though they are very fast, they are cheap, and they are friendly so you can't really fault the place on much. As a vegetarian I tend to get some vegetable dumplings (quite good), the lo mein because I have to have my noodles, and maybe a veg course like the broccoli with garlic sauce. The food is a little greasy, but it does indeed taste fresh and has good flavor. They unfortunately do not do delivery business but there are enough delivery options for Chinese food around the Hudson Valley. If you live near by and are looking for a new take out place give them a try. read more
