The first thing you notice is definitely the ambiance and vibe, like when I went inside the place it was so quiet and devoid of any sound and most of the place had no lights on. Usually a Chinese takeout is busy and noisy not this place. Also the place is very expensive the prices were not worth it. For example a small shrimp and broccoli was so small it could been an appetizer over a meal. Other places lunch/regular size is double the size they give. Now the second meal i got a later meal, the jade palace bell which I mean was good, but I will say with both that meal and the shrimp and broccoli they way over cook the shrimp to oblivion. Wow, was this place awful! My wife bought $65 worth of entrees and we ended up throwing it all out... my mango chicken may have been spoiled. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was safe to eat, but it was certainly TASTELESS...Actually, ALL the entrees were TASTELESS...the egg rolls turned out to be the best part of meal! I feel really bad writing this review. But if I can prevent even one person from going through what I've been dealing with since I ate my food from Jade Palace last night, I feel I should. I stopped last night to order some take out. The sign in the window said Open. But when I walked in it was very dark. It was only about 7:15 and the dining room was dark, no customers. There was a gentleman at the counter, I asked if he was open, he said only for take out. He put my order in, a pork lo mein combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. Later around 11:00, I started feeling horrible. Nausea, chills and severe intestinal cramping. It is now 10:00, 23 hours later and I am still miserable. I can't begin to describe how terribly sick I've been. This is obviously a bad case of food poisoning. I feel bad writing this because the man and I had chatted while I was waiting about how he no longer does in house dining, only take out. He said business had been somewhat slow. I feel bad when someone's business is going through a tough time, but whatever is going on, if you're still prepping and selling food, all strict precautions to serve safe and quality food must be adhered to. Quick rundown - Chicken w/Garlic: Had no garlic (seriously it was that bad). // Hot & Sour soup: Was not spicy, was not sour, had no white pepper, completely forgettable. // Chicken Lo Mein: Had barely a hint of chicken, even though 2x chicken was requested (same with other dish, very little). The sparse chicken was also velveted with a heavy hand (makes it taste swampy/spoiled). Seriously, don't use that much baking soda. The food here used to be good and has steadily gone downhill over the past year or so. My husband and I ordered $65.+ in entrees and appetizers and had to throw it all away. The mango chicken tasted spoiled, the fried rice dry, the lomien noodles soggy, the bag of crispy noodles stale. To top it off while I was waiting for the food I asked to use the rest room and was told NO!. I said this is a restaurant and I am a customer why cant I use the restroom. This has been our go to place for some time now.....we even loved dining in as well, but I'm not sure whats going.....very inconsistent with the general tso being spicy one week abd not the next the pieces were like popcorn chicken very chewy and tasted old wanton soup zeeo flavor unable to eat. Sad to see so many negative recent reviews. We hesitated to go but are glad we did because the food and service were both excellent. Though we no longer live in the area we enjoyed Jade Palace regularly for many years, through several changes of ownership. On this visit all our favorites were still on the menu. Our party had hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, sizzling vegetarian chicken (the star of the evening) and Empress chicken, my favorite dish for over 20 years. It was a Monday evening and very quiet. I ordered takeout on a Sunday evening. Nothing to difficult. Large wonton soup, house special soup for 2, large bone in spare ribs and an order of shrimp toast. When I got home the shrimp toast was horrible. Looked like it had been cooked a week before. The ribs were way over cooked and burnt. All you tasted was char. I went back and they replaced the shrimp toast and ribs. Not much better and I only ate 2 pieces of each. That is rare for me as these are two of my favorite Chinese appetizers. The soups were hot and tasty. So we are all of them. Unfortunately I actually got sick that night and threw out the leftover ribs and toast. I have a stomach like a Billy goat so needless to say I will not be back. Unfortunately it seems that most Chinese restaurants have not recovered after the Covid shutdown. With slightly battered hopes- we linked arms and remained resolute - trusting our memories of The Palace. True to form this vegetarian meal was a dream come true. From my childhood (speaking of battered) a favorite memory is egg drop soup. Without eating chicken stock, I have NEVER encountered this wonderful soup with vegetable broth. anyway, the soup is an emotional and Epicurean triumph! Lovely fried noodles on each table... not where I live. I loved the veg. egg roll. Very hot, so they did need to sit. I will admit my companions were not as impressed as I. My main course ... a tofu creation with really fascinating brown sauce. So many different flavors... balance of soy, dark vinegar.. ginger + garlic - quite peppery! Something different in each bite. I went in for a sit down dinner this evening with my son. It was excellent. The wonton soup was incredible. I missed the bok choi but the broth was flavorful and the wontons were dense and meaty with the perfect amount of ginger. We got a Poo Poo platter as another appetizer and it was really fun. The spare ribs were tender and juicy. The crab Rangoon was crispy and sweet and the butterfly shrimp, fresh and full of flavor. We got chicken and string beans as our entree to share and it was perfect. The green beans were super fresh, they had perfect color and a great crunch. The service was great and it reminded me of when I was very young, going out for Chinese food with my parents. The only thing missing was me drinking a Shirley Temple. It was a great dinner out. This place used to be AMAZING, but that has changed now and not for the better! First of all, they are CHEAP as hell and don't even fill up the containers ~ the lunch specials are in these TINY trays and they are not even filled up either! They have a history of serving the wrong orders, undercooked chicken and changing prices day to day. Looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Dutchess County? This isn't it! We tried it a few times in 2021 and it wasn't horrible. Tried it again last week. I requested no green peas in anything. The egg foo young was filled with green peas! Inedible. Spareribs were dry, overcooked, and tasted reheated. Baked roast pork buns were heated in a microwave, tasted like cardboard and had almost no filling. Moo goo gai pan should be called mushroom gai pan. It had hardly any chicken and tasteless sauce. Bad experience..... Went in for lunch on a Friday afternoon.... Inside was dark, tape on seats, not terrible but not nice.... They started us with some fried chips with duck sauce, best part of the meal.... After that, downhill.... I got the general tso's chicken with brown rice and an egg roll.... I went to this restaurant several times and it leaves me great dining experience. The wonton soup and duck sauce are two of most flavorful stuff I have tried here. The decoration here is a little quaint Chinese style and very comfortable to dine in. Something I want to mention here is their service. The owner is very nice and talkative, and he even sent me fried dumping since we had very interactive conversation. The waiter is also pretty cool. Jade Palace is one of the best Chinese places in Dutchess County. I love it. I really do. I've been going here for the past 15 years -- I was raised on it! I've never had too much of a problem here. My food has always been delivered on time, little to no mistakes and people have always been kind. They tend to give out free calendars around Christmas and the New Year, too. I tend to mostly order off of the Revolutionary Diet menu now, but sometimes I spoil myself by getting spare ribs, tom yum soup (very good Thai soup), pork fried rice, mu shu pork, and so on. Jade Palace is basically an institution in my family. It's a place we've always ordered Chinese food from and a place where you can always expect good quality and seasoning in your food. Consistency is the theme of this institution. I almost hesitate to give a full five stars here because there's nothing unique about the Americanized Chinese food for the standard customer. But as an omnivore who loves tofu, and a previous multiyear vegetarian, Jade Palace has an extensive set of delicious accommodations for the non-meat eater. Vegetarian steak and chicken substitutes that taste very good and unique, as well as Sesame tofu and General Tsos tofu. The tofu here is fried but for delivery, I ordered the tofu not fried and it was awesome. The sesame chicken, often greasy and overfried at other local establishments, was excellent in our most recent order (that's my hubs' go-to). I was really looking forward to looking at the huge menu in person. I had been craving whole-steamed or fried flounder with the traditional soy, ginger, and scallion sauce, and was so happy to see "whole steamed/crispy fish" on the menu. Wompwomp. I'll explain. I asked how much the price of the whole crispy fish was and the server obviously spit out any number she could think of, "25". We thought it was fair until she proceeded to ask what kind of fish I wanted and making offers of seabass, salmon, etc. "Whole flounder is fine," I said, "with sauce on the side." Though it came out hot and crispy, it was paired with a huge side of some slimy vegetable sweet and sour sauce, NOT the sauce I was hoping for (the one I asked the server to confirm for me). My boyfriend ordered the "tea-smoked duck", anxious to taste the smoke on the meat. It was simply fried peking duck. No smoke on the duck and no moisture at all. They literally fried the sh*t out of it. We also ordered a dish of mixed vegetables, which is written on the menu with two options: lunch portion or dinner portion. The server told us there is only one size and it's "the large". Of course there's only one size, that's why there's two options available, RIGHT? Ending rant/negative review.
