Food is good but sushi is paper thin and mostly rice. I ordered a hand roll and the amount of tuna that was in the roll was the same amount that would typically be in a single piece of a maki roll. Service was one star! New staff were friendly but couldn't get the order correct and was not familiar with the menu at all. I also asked for a side of spicy mayo for the table and instead I was served my dinner covered with spicy mayo. I could hardly eat it. It clearly states on the menu that a bowl of sushi rice comes with any sashimi dinner upon request. When the dinner was served we asked the waitress for the rice and she pointed to the rice under a piece of sushi (I ordered a sushi/sashimi deluxe dinner) and said that's all that comes with it. We weren't going to request a manager so we let it be considering the fact that it was Christmas Eve. We would have hoped to have a better experience and went here after having many previous pleasant experiences but this time fell short. read more

Went to Toro for a quick business meeting meal. It was a Thursday night around 7pm and the place was empty. This was my first time there so I based the restaurant selection on Yelp reviews for sushi restaurants in the area. Found the service to be very slow and had to continually ask for our hot tea to be topped off. Ordered the Tuna Tataki appetizer and after about 15 minutes was told they only had the Albacore Tuna Tataki. We were willing too give it a try, but it was quite disappointing. The appetizer was comprised of 7 paper thin slices of albacore sashimi in a light garlic sauce that barely had any taste. We ordered 3 rolls: the UFO Roll (which was the tastiest of all the rolls), Kamikaze (our least favorite) and the Bunny roll. The sushi tasted fresh and presented well, but the service was a tad slow and lacking. If it was this bad on a slow night, I'd question what it would be like on a more populated night. If you are in need of a sushi fix, the I'd give it a try. If you want a great dining experience, then I'd head somewhere else. read more

For the Hudson valley I'm giving this place 5 stars. Really not much to not love about Toro, definitely better sushi and Korean food than anywhere north of NYC. Service is great, I recommend the short rib Kalbi or steak bulgogi. Sushi rolls that I've had have all been great. They use a higher quality rice and you can taste the difference. this place is a family run business that cares tremendously about the food they produce. I've had many consistent great meals here. Not a terrible place but not terribly good either. Smallish venue with booths and tables in the back, appears to be one sushi chef, 1 manager, and 2 waitstaff. Waitstaff was polite, price was reasonable, and food was good for the most part. Don't know what the other reviewer's complaint about the Jap Che was, mine was pretty good. Plenty of places in Manhattan's K-Town do a worse and more expensive version. California roll was unremarkable, except for the part where the tobiko was milling on the outside of the roll, -1 there. Wasabi was actually nice and hot tho, so +1. Mondoo Gook (dumpling soup) was quite good, but ban chan (side dishes) were minimal, only 4 plates. Menu selection is likewise small, seemed to favor the Japanese dishes over the Korean ones. Waitstaff was polite and accommodating, and service was reasonably fast and attentive. Atmosphere was sleepy and somewhat tired. Everything was clean and neat, but dimly lit and just had a very slow feel to it. Not the best place for a romantic dinner or business. Family friendly apparently, and yes, that little boy is still there. Not too disruptive during my visit, but I usually don't care about these things. I can see him being very distracting to others, tho. Restaurant located in a strip mall next to an Irish Pub, so don't let that surprise you. For Korean food, I don't think you have much other choice in the area, and it's not that bad a place. But I probably wouldn't eat here again unless I was specifically looking for Korean food. Smaller portions, same as you'd expect to have elsewhere. Dumpling soup- outstanding. Great flavor and a clear broth. Spicy mussels- delicious but just 4 pieces Seafood pho- huge! Enough for two. Totally waste of time!!! Tried to go last night. Waited to get seated without getting acknowledged for more than we should have!!! A very nice female server literally tried to make up for our experience by clearing off a table etc then as we were about to be seated some older female probably owners wife comes over and cuts her off tells us to wait but really was confused because it was so fast and rude. No other explanation because now they are both at register doing transactions which I get people are waiting on their tickets..... so as we waited I then had enough !!! My advise go down Main Street to Domo!!! We literally walked in and enjoyed the best service and experience!!! Sorry but will never spend my money at Toro!!! I've eaten here a number of times (most recently last weekend). The food is really quite good. My husband is a sushi-snob, but he raves about the fish and how fresh it is. I don't eat sushi, but the grilled Chilean Sea Bass is AMAZING. The glaze is so good... I'd say it's on par with the black miso cod at Nobu in the city. The Korean food is excellent - being Korean-American myself, I think it's pretty authentic. The bulgogi is great, and I love the beef gopdol bibimbap (which you can get with brown rice if you're health conscious). I've never had any problems with service - food has always come very quickly and the staff are friendly. read more

Me and my S.O. this place a lot, but after our last experience we will not be going back. We arrived just after 8:40pm, checked their closing time (which stated they closed at 10:00pm) and proceeded to go in. As we walked in we were told that the kitchen closed at 8:40pm and we could not be seated. Not only were we disappointed because we were looking forward to sushi, but we were very confused as to why the kitchen would close so much earlier than the restaurant. I understand that restaurants need time to clean up every night, but having over an hour of that being "open" business hours does not seem reasonable. I wish they would adjust their closing time to reflect when you could actually be served food. On the plus side, we ended up having dinner at Tanjore in the same plaza and it was absolutely delicious! read more

Yes the food is good, but after overlooking the little boy constantly running around the restaurant during my first visit, I was disappointed to see him again for my second visit. And this time with a friend. And they were loud, running around the entire restaurant like a playground, yelling, messing around with the piano in front of the restaurant and the staff didn't seem to notice. Seems like the staff at Toro do not care if the patrons are being disrupted and distracted by this kind of behavior. The people in the booth next to ours were just as annoyed as we were. I have been stayed in Korea for many times since 1990's. In my point of view, Korean food is one of the most healthy cuisine besides of Italian. I am happy to find one authentic Korean restaurant during the trip, Toro. At the first sight of entry, the chef cut the raw fish calmly and everything is clean and well organized. I definitely recommend this Korean restaurant to friends. I wish it can insist to do the authentic Korean cuisine, instead of being changed by the American heavy and fat cuisine. read more

I ordered the Shrimp Chap Che sweet potato clear noodle and veggie dish that came with miso soup and a bowl of rice. Miso soup was good. My entree was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that it lacked flavor. I ended up adding hot sauce and soy sauce to my dish. Prices were reasonable. read more

This place has great hot stone rice bowls(gop dol). My wife loves this place and we go here often. We haven't gotten sick yet. The only thing to note is that sometimes during the evening service can be a little slow, so don't go there expecting to eat and run. First time having Korean food and I will be back. Miso soup was excellent and what I remember from my trip to Japan. I knew it would be good as there were many Asians eating when we walked in. Business lunches to mom and child lunch. The menu has pictures for each dish along with a description. My dish had sliced beef, fried egg, veggies, rice and red sauce. Oh my. Perfect combo of seasonings and tender beef. No grizzle that I often find at Chinese restaurants. My dining friends had sushi and a lunch box. Tons of food and what I expected for prices. As someone from out of state and not experienced in Korean foods, I found the staff incredibly helpful and patient. They helped me pick out a wonderful dish (Seoul chicken) that I would have again. Although the wait for the food was a little longer than most traditional restaurants it was worth it and I would highly recommend this place to all who are looking for a different experience or want to branch out. I would have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley. I take my friends and family here often, usually every 2 weeks. The owners serve the customers, and are very nice and friendly. They remember faces and orders. They serve both Korean and Japanese food. They serve basic Japanese dishes such as terriyaki, katsus, udon, and sushi. I have never ordered Japanese food here. I usually go for the Korean dishes, as there are not many Korean restaurants around here. Their bulgogi and bibimbap are great! The meat is tender and flavorful, and they give a lot of vegetables. Presentation of food is nice as well. Try their seafood pancke, mandu (dumplings), and yook gae jang soup! These are my usual orders. I highly recommend them! I visited few times for having sushi. But yesterday I did order spicy pho instead of sushi. I became to love this restaurant. This restaurant is far from my house. It took 30 min by drive. But I satisfied the taste. The soup of the pho was not spicy for me. And it was just deep and thick. It touched my tongue. I love it. But it took to long to taste the pho. Because yesterday there was so crowded. I think it took 20min. to have it from ordering. But I excused restaurant 's owner in my mind after I tasted the pho and sushi. Anyway I will try other menu.
