Good. Not great, but reasonably well done. The interior space is clean and nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly. The online ordering experience was straightforward, and our takeout order was ready exactly when we expected it to be. Everything was nicely packaged. In terms of the food, it was fine. We had previously tried the salad roll as an appetizer, and went for the Took Took's roll this time. That worked well. The shrimp and crab meet is an interesting choice, but it was generally good. The tom yum soup was pretty spot on. The Pad Kra Paw and Pad Pak (both with vegetables rather than protein) were basically indistinguishable. Both good, but very similar. The Panang curry with tofu was good but was more tofu than vegetable. Not particularly noteworthy. One detail I'll note is that they allow for selecting a spiciness level for basically every dish, on a scale from zero to five. We went with a four, which is pretty standard for us. Turns out, that's very spicy at Took Took. That's what we ordered, but it's worth keeping in mind. Overall, this is a good destination. The food is nicely prepared. It's a good overall experience. They are one of the few Thai places that are opened later at night which is convenient. Their food is incredibly spicy, please be very aware of this! I wasn't a fan of food. I've been here 3 times and I can officially say that I'm not a fan. The eggplant fritters were soaked in oil and the eggplant were just cut up slices. The tofu was good! Four of us stopped by around 6pm on Sunday evening and we were the only ones there for a bit. The menu is fairly large. The inside isn't super huge so I wouldn't bring a group bigger than 6-8 people here. Our service was a bit on the slow side once it got busier but it wasn't a big deal. My date and I stopped in here for dinner on a recent week night. We got there kind of later in the evening (around 8 pm) and the place wasn't busy at all. We started with the crispy rolls which come with a chili dipping sauce. For dinner, I ordered the pumpkin curry. I forget what my date ordered, but the presentation (and taste) of his entree was top tier! The food was delicious and comforting and the service was just as great! One of my fav places for Thai food in Pittsburgh when you're craving that homey, garlicky Thai flavor. I've gotten takeout from them a couple times but also dined in. They have all the familiar Thai classics like pad thai and pad see ew and curries, and they deliver great flavor consistently. The restaurant is pretty clean and service is great! It's a super casual eatery. We randomly decided to get the mango sticky rice for dessert and it was actually so good. Took Took 98 is a cute Thai place in Squirrel Hill. Very nice atmosphere. The servers we had were both pleasant and efficient. (Which let's be honest, sometimes you only get one or the other...) My friend and I got the Shrimp Pad Thai and the Tom Yum Soup. The Pad Thai was very sweet- to the point that it tasted one dimensional. I didn't get the combination of lime, peanut, spicy and sweet that usually make Pad Thai such a compelling dish. I asked for red pepper flakes and later more crushed peanuts, so once I added that and the lime juice it was better, but I was still disappointed. The Tom Yum soup was good. I'd like to go back to hopefully be proven wrong. We shall see. read more

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife for dinner. We found Took Took 98 whenever we were looking at restaurants in the squirrel hill area. After perusing their website we ended up placing a to go order at around 3:00 PM for a 4:45 PM pickup. Whenever we arrived to the restaurant at just after 4:50 PM our food was ready. I was in the restaurant for maybe 30 seconds since there was already somebody at the front counter. From what I saw of the restaurant it had some nice plants in the front window and the inside was filled with white tables and chairs with lots of lighter wood tones. The last thing that I noticed before I left was 4 giant squishmallows sitting at the back of the restaurant which I found humorous. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the Pad Kee Mao, my wife went with the pad Thai and then we also ordered the spaghetti kiaw wan for our twins. The menu described my entree as Flat noodle, Lump egg, Basil leave, Fresh black pepper, Bamboo shoot, Rhizome and Garlic sauce and I chose chicken as my protein while my wife's was described as Rice noodle, Lump egg, Crispy tofu, Peanut, Scallion, Beansprout, Green bean and Tamarind sauce and she chose chicken as her protein. Finally our twins choice was described as Shrimp sauteed with broccoli in light brown gravy on top of wide rice noodles and the website asked us for a protein choice which was confusing. After we opened up our meals at home it was clear that the menu description for the spaghetti kiaw wan was not right. Then some research on the internet confirmed what I suspected when looking at it, that it was a green curry and so I ended up eating that and gave the twins the Pad Kee Mao. Even with that little bit of a fiasco, I have to admit that I enjoyed my meal. The green curry was both spicy and sweet with complex depth of flavor. That made all of the vegetables and the spaghetti enjoyable to eat in it. Then while I didn't have the pad kee Mao for dinner, I was able to taste it. I enjoyed it also as the wide noodle were fun and it had a great taste to it. There was a flavor in it which was pleasant that I don't think that I have had before which may have been the Rhizome. Last but not least my wife enjoyed her pad Thai although it was different than those that she is used to. Specifically she mentioned it having green beans which was surprising. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While the menu snafu wasn't ideal, we did enjoy all of the food we had here. read more

I hate having to give a local restaurant a subpar review. I can tell the owner(?) cares about the restaurant. However the first red flag was where we were seated was on top of a vent that was blowing out air that smelled like old sewer. The second red flag was that the bathroom had no soap. But my biggest complaint is that the crispy "stuffed" wontons barely had ANY filling in them; maybe a teaspoon if that which was really disappointing as it was the only thing I ordered. And the dipping sauce wasn't really spicy or flavorful, just clear and sweet. The one thing that saved this place in my book was their lychee green tea with rainbow jellies bubble tea. *WOULD RECOMMEND* When you think of Thai food, you think of curry, pad thai, see ew, etc. Most Thai restaurants only offer these dishes but Took Took 98 offers a lot more authentic dishes that I have never seen before in other Thai restaurants. Yes they have the standard curry and rice noodle dishes, but they have Thai dishes that they actually eat in Thailand regularly like the Pad Kra Pow Moo (which was recommended to me by the waitress). I've also had their green curry and their tom yum noodle soup and they were all pretty good. And the price was very reasonable with the amount they give you, if anything on the cheaper side compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. *VERDICT* Yes, I would go back again and try their more authentic dishes and brunch items read more

I eat Thai food pretty often, I love it, but maybe I've been only eating the Americanized version because these two dishes were SO SPICY. I acknowledge that people have different spice tolerances, but typically a medium is good for me... this level was so unexpected. Still good, I just could barely taste it. So, if you're like me and typically like small to medium amounts of spice.... Be warned, even the 1/5 was a lot. We also got the chive dumplings as an appetizer. I liked them, but they're very greasy. The beef jerky was good. The drinks were very large, some we liked more than others, but all decent. Very authentic and delicious Thai food! I have to say they make the best Thai food I've had to date. Even better than popular Thai places I've eaten at in major cities. They let you customize the spice level on most dishes, which is nice for folks who don't like spice. I've been there multiple times and so far tried the Pad Kee Mao, Pad Thai, Tom Yum noodle soup, red curry, Tom kha soup, and the Thai iced milk tea. All delicious (although the Tom kha soup was a bit too sour for my preferences). The food is not always served the fastest because it's a smaller restaurant, but it's worth the wait. I am dreaming of this Pad Thai. Oh man! I can't even describe how delicious. Ok, so my friend and I started with the salad rolls and the vegetable rolls. The salad rolls were served with the most delicious garlicky citrus aioli that I've ever had. I don't know how they did it, but the restaurant found a way to season raw vegetables so that each bite tasted intentionally fresh and flavorful. The vegetable rolls were fried to perfection with a crispy crunch. Now on to my Pad Thai. I asked for a 2 heat (on a scale of 1-5). I will admit that the 2 was pretty spicy (I will do 1 or none next time) so if you aren't into spice then make sure that you ask for none. The noodles were perfectly sauced. I added chicken to my dish and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. *Sidenote* if you have a food allergy you need to let your waiter know so that they can modify the recipe. I didn't get a chance to try the drinks, but they have an extensive drink menu. The restaurant is cozy and small which was nice to sit in. However, the bathrooms are downstairs with no elevator. So if you or someone in your dinner party has difficulty walking up and down stairs you may want to consider takeout or using the restroom prior to eating. My friend and I wanted to try a new Thai place, and we landed on this place. Walking in, we were immediately seated down. Inside, there were high tables for a table for two and normal tables for larger parties, and they played a lot of trending music. The server also gave great recommendations for the food. From her recommendations, I got the Nam Sai Noodle Bowl with beef and a spice level of 1. The noodle soup felt so homey and something I'd crave on a rainy day. It was delicious with just the right kick of spice. My friend got one of the curries, which he really enjoyed! Overall, would come back to this place because of the inexpensive prices paired with the quality food. The food looked so good another one of my friends wanted to come try it out with me as well. I was all for it because how could I say no to good food. This time we ordered the Golden Tofu and Dumplings as appetizers. The Golden Tofu was pretty good and was paired with a dipping sauce with nuts on it. The dipping sauce was really great, I've never had anything like it. However, the Dumplings were disappointing. There was barely any for the price, and they looked like they had been re-frozen and re-boiled. The skin was falling off when I picked it up with my chopsticks, and they tasted bland as well. I then ordered the Took Took Noodle with beef and a spice level of 1 from the seasonal Blooming Menu, available only from April to June. This noodle soup also had me feeling at home and was very good as well. It had more of a garlic flavor, which was also really good. My friend got the Tom Yum Noodle Soup, and he loved it as well. Very good Thai food all around; probably some of the best Thai in Pittsburgh and one of the top restaurants in the area. Tonight, I tried their pad see ew with vegetables and the volcano roti. Both were excellent. The pad see ew was saucy...finally! A place that is liberal with the sauce almost always satisfies me. Here, this sauce is flavorful and has the right balance of sweet to saltiness. It's got just a hint of spice, even when you order a 0 on the spice scale. These noodles are thick and chewy, as they should be. The dish isn't too oily and has a nice portion for the price. Keep in mind when they say they make Thai street food, the portions are still going to be plentiful. My only qualm with their pad see ew (and most of their entrees, for that matter) is that they up-charge you for every protein. Not just shrimp, mixed meat, seafood, beef, pork, but also for chicken and even tofu. So, the price can quickly add up, but it's still fairly reasonable. They are definitely liberal with the vegetables, too, and they give a nice variety. There's Chinese broccoli (gailan), corn, green beans, and other vegetables. To me, they were a bit undercooked. I also personally prefer more noodles than protein or vegetables so the ratio was a bit skewed in my opinion, but for most people, this should be a plus. The volcano roti definitely blew me away. Easily a five star dessert which would be even better a la mode. The crispy roti with the delicious chocolate roti on top is alone incredible, and not overly sweet. The texture is perfect too. But then you add the condensed milk on top, and it knocks your socks off. All in all, this is a great little Thai spot with what seems to be a charming atmosphere.
