the menu of the restaurant

Very good Ramen, with excellent noodles, fresh Thai Basil, and delicious broth. Outstanding comfort food, but perhaps lacking complexity. The Boba Tea was good, in particular the tapioca was deliciously moist with the right amount of chewyness. The staff was helpful and welcoming.

The most delicious egg rolls that I've had in my life anywhere period. Hello!
Nancy C.

Somi was such a wonderful surprise today. The bulgogi egg roll was the best I've ever had anywhere in my life. I don't take that lightly. I love food. Wow! So crunchy and flavorful! The sauce it came with was amazing and packed a punch. I also poured that on the rice and it was awesome. Loved the bulgogi rice bowl. I'm obsessed with bulgogi. Any time I go to a Korean Restaurant, that's what I must have. It didn't disappoint. It was so crunchy and well seasoned. I'll be dreaming of this meal for a while. Next time, I'm getting my egg rolls again and trying the spicy tuna poke bowl. I'd come constantly if I lived closer. Do yourself a favor and eat here. Wow!

Lemongrass chicken curry with sparkling lavender limeade

Stopped in for a working lunch and definitely wasn't disappointed! Somi is located in Galley Bakery Square, which features a few different restaurant windows as well as a bar. There's indoor and outdoor seating available, and when we stopped in there were plenty of dogs on the patio. Bakery Square is a pretty trendy area -- it's home of the Pittsburgh Google campus, some cool new condos, and coworking spaces -- so seeing lots of young professionals and their furry friends was no surprise. The Galley seems easy enough to navigate overall once you know what you're doing. The girl at the Somi window answered my questions, but here are a few things it might help to know before you go: 1. Grab your table first. Each one has a number, so drop your stuff and then head to the window of your chosen restaurant to order. 2. Your food will be brought to your table. You don't have to hang around and wait for the order to be up -- once you give them your table number, they'll bring out your meal when it's ready. 3. Leave your trash on the table. Someone is usually walking around to clear dishes. They might even get to you before you get up to leave. But you don't have to take your dishes anywhere when you're done. Now for the food itself. Somi had a pretty decent selection of Asian-inspired bowls and plates. I went with the lemongrass chicken curry, and it was SO GOOD. I haven't gotten anything at a restaurant that I liked quite that much in a long time. Came with fresh lime wedges to squeeze over the bowl, and it was *chefs kiss* delicious. We also sprang for the limeade. They had a couple of fancy flavors. They were out of the lavender (and the boba bubbles -- you can order your specialty drinks with boba if you want), but the sparkling limeade was still light and refreshing. Overall it was a lovely spring lunch on a lovely spring day. Very much recommend checking Somi out. Will have to stop back to try some of the other restaurants Galley Bakery Square has to offer!

I got some kind of spicy pork belly bowl. One it wasn't spicy at all. But I have a very high spice threshold so that's fine. The pork belly was eh and I loved pork belly. And the worst part was that the rice was so hard. I put my chopsticks through and lifted it like a lollipop. Expensive and not worth it at all.

Good mix of Asian inspired food. I ordered spicy gochujang dry ramen and Korean fries. Their Korean fries are a great shareable appetizer. The portion size for mains is also pretty good. The food was presented pretty well. Service was pretty quick. The staff is always pleasant and helpful with questions about the menu. Parking is easily available in Bakery Square.

Hawaiian Poke Bowl and bubble tea

Love love love. I've been the Bakery Square Galley twice now and each time I have gone to Somi. I crave a poke bowl about once a week and this place has a DELICIOUS poke bowl. It's listed as a Hawaiian Poke Bowl and comes with options but I get mine as Spicy Tuna. I also order a bubble tea with bursting boba. So good. And so fast. Next time I go I will most likely get another poke bowl, even with 3 other restaurants in the galley.

SOMI BIBIMBAP

Somi is in The Gallery at Bakery Square. This is one of 4 options you can choose from and I'd recommend this place highly. They offer a modern twist to the table. Vegan and gluten free options are available which I always love to see. The food here is real, true, filling, and an experience. I ordered the SOMI BIBIMBAP as pictured that I took. This bowl was a lot bigger than I thought which made me happy. The egg was perfect, rice done excellently, the meat cooked so savory. This bowl was a lot of flavor and filled me up perfectly. I can't imagine what their other dishes are like and I'll soon be finding out. Hope that this place opens it own spot for sure. Lots of potential here. Definitely stop by and get some!

Korean Fries and the Bulgoli Eggrolls
Chelsey D.

Always a winner for me! I love this place. Bakery square is always a fun atmosphere, Some adds to that with great service and delicious bites! My go to are the bulgoli eggrolls, the Korean fries and recently my friend let me try the Pork Belly Bibimbap bowl. SOOOO GOOD. So flavorful, and such a decent sized serving. I have been craving it ever since and regret not stealing her dish and running! The sauce that they use for the fries and the egg roll are so addictive. Only problem with the egg rolls is I could literally eat like a whole bag of them if it was socially acceptable!

Somi Bibimbop Great, little spicy depending on your tastes
Linnea M.

Excellent Asian Fusion. All dishes we ordered are highly recommended. Vegan Pho - great, simple, all little different than traditional.... has mint Korean stir fry - has sweet potato noodles... unexpectedly excellent! Can't really taste the sweet potato flavor, but the dish is sweet over all. Very good! Somi Bibimbop - great also, though spicy Would highly recommend this place - a little pricey, but convenient if you're staying at the nearby Marriot.

Somi is a great new Asian fusion restaurant in the East Liberty area. Prices are on higher end however the quality of the food is great. Feels like you're more so paying for the experience of the whole Galley, but none the less the food is delicious. Had the Hawaiian Poke, Bibimbap with Pork Belly, and of course the Korean style fries!!!

Hawaiian poke

Located in Galley Bakery Square, it was by far the most popular food concept of the four. I would definitely get the Hawaiian Poke bowl with spicy tuna again! When I got in line, I was going to order two starters, and entree and a lavender lemonade. Yep, just for me and offering to share with my table. By the time, I reached the counter to place my order, I'd narrowed it down to just the entree as the menu offerings were so enticing but my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The person taking orders was very nice and helpful. I'm not sure how I feel about tipping when located in a food hall. Also, see my review of Galley Bakery Square to round out my dining experience of eating at Somi.

General Tso's Chicken

I ordered the general tso's from Somi. It came out super fast and was a huge portion. The people working there were really friendly and accommodating. I asked for sriracha on the side because I like it extra spicy and would definitely recommend!

Brunch menu

I was excited to stop by Galley Bakery Square for the first time. Somi offers a variety of different Americanized brunch offerings with a variety of Asian influences from Japanese, Poke, Korean, etc. I ordered their take on eggs benedict with pork belly. The portion was great as it wasn't too small or to large. Everything was excellent from the presentation to the eggs. I would probably try Somi again before trying another one of the restaurants here.

Closed with people waiting in line to order!

I asked our waiter if the portion size of chirashi was good and he said it's a good size and that they have carry out boxes if I don't finish. Tell me why this was the smallest chirashi I have ever seen anywhere. The slices of fish were thinner than the sliced ginger. If you stacked all of the slices, it would make a normal size of one piece of nigiri. The slice of tuna was so thin, you could see through it, much less taste it. I was still starving after and got the fried chicken nuggets which were a good portion, with good crunch. The sauce on the chicken was devoid of flavor except for the SALT. They were even able to take the chicken flavor away from the meat which is kind of an accomplishment in itself. My friend got the Sichuan pork dumplings and the dumplings were drowning in soy sauce so much so that you couldn't taste the Sichuan spice (if there was any). There's a sushi restaurant nearby that gives me food poisoning every time I eat there and I would have much rather have eaten there than Soba. I would definitely recommend this place to my enemies because they'll leave broke and still hungry.

I'm a spicy marg lover so I tried-new person same old mistakes-it didn't really strike me as spicy but more so smoky and I wanted spicy. We did the khao yum-it was unique, I think I would really have loved this. If it was hot out it seems like it would be very refreshing and light and more ideal for the spring and summer and like I said we went in the dead of winter. I did the beef tenderloin as my main and it was good, it wasn't too spicy, had a nice flavor, but I don't know that I would order it again. If it wasn't so hard to get a reservation, I would definitely come here more. I really liked the vibe and the aesthetic.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

This was a combination that I did not expect to actually work, but it does. The bartender does an amazing job that very few in my experience have been able to do, which is blend the drink to where it is not just 90% alcohol and 10% whatever else. This allows you to really experience the drink and its fancy little name. Food: Entree - Godzilla: This was recommended by my waiter at the time because it was the first time ever that I have tried sushi and I was not disappointed. This dish was sooooo delicious. Dessert - Churro Cheesecake: What can I say? It's cheesecake and churros. Not a big fan of sweets, but I do love me a good cheesecake. Service: 5 / 5 - No complaints. Waiter was very attentive and made sure to check in periodically. He was very passionate about his job and provided strong recommendations with his opinion on the choices when asked. When he found out that this was my first time having sushi, he took the time to explain how the menu works, which I have horrible memory, but appreciate deeply. Wouldn't mind having him as a regular waiter in the future. Vibe: 4 / 5 - Restaurant and food presentation is very pretty, clean and aim to provide you with that "fancy restaurant" experience, that so many people have come to expect. However, an acquaintance once said, "you have to have several mid dishes before you enjoy a really good dish" and she was right. Although, I wouldn't call social house mid.
