We made a reservation a month in advance for a large group of us and were seated right away. It was a Thursday evening so they were pretty empty and our waitress was also the bartender. Awesome restaurant in the North Hills! The menu has a nice variety of sushi, Japanese, and Chinese dishes so there's something for everyone. Arrive early, because tables filled up quickly after 5pm on Friday. We ordered the egg roll and crab rangoons as appetizers and loved them. The rangoons were so flavorful and stuffed fully on the inside, with a crispy shell that was tasty just by itself even. On the side they provided sweet and sour sauce for dipping, complementing the ingredients. The dish comes with 4 rangoons, so it's a nice appetizer for 2 people. While the egg roll appetizer only comes with one, it is quite large and stuffed with streamed veggies. It also comes with duck and sweet and sour sauce for dipping. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and loved it. The sauce is very flavorful with a subtle sweetness. There's a huge pile of cooked and sauce-soaked veggies on the skillet: carrots, onion, and zucchini. The chicken on top is thin and pre-sliced for easy eating, but was still a little dry unfortunately. Thankfully the rice, sauce, and veggies balanced it out and made each bite more tender. Nice and friendly service. Went on a Friday around 5:30p and was seated quickly. You can sit at the sushi but we went to a traditional table. We ordered an egg roll and crab rangoons as well as appetizers (not pictured) but they were excellent. My spicy California roll was lovely and the amount of chicken on my plate of General Tso's was described by my wife as a "flock" with how much was on it. I've had Sushi Tomo in the past but visited recently for the first time in years. We went for lunch and they have great lunch specials! Really great portions and pricing. I love the ginger dressing on the salad but the lettuce was weirdly wet which made the dressing watery. The Philadelphia roll was a little different than what I've had before and unfortunately I didn't really care for it. Instead of a cold smoked salmon, it was lukewarm and if it was smoked, it didn't taste like it. My spicy tuna roll was good and my husband liked his California roll. Really great local sushi at a reasonable price (relative to a lot of sushi spots in the city!) I've dined in once and gotten takeout a few times, and I've had no complaints. Their maki rolls, handrolls, sashimi, and ramen are all delicious. I have a dreadful lack of photos of my Tomo meals, but trust me when I say that their presentation and their fish quality is top-notch, IMO. It's located on McKnight, which is maybe my only drawback (I just hate driving on McKnight!), but they have a spacious parking lot and it's easy to spot on the busy road. This is a sushi restaurant, and the sushi looked great. I would stay with the sushi. I made the mistake of ordering salmon teriyaki. The menu describes it as "served on a sizzling hot bed of onions & veggies served with white rice." Well, no. It was the thinnest slice of salmon I have ever seen. It was sautéed or fried and was about 1/4 " thick with the coating. Guess they use it in their sushi? It came swimming in a thick sauce and had some ( not a lot) of very thinly sliced onions and carrots. This restaurant has operated in the North Hills for over 20 years, and I have driven past it probably thousands of times, but I only recently ate at this resturant for the first time! The menu lists appetizers such as crab rangoon and gyoza and entrees such as teriyaki, sushi, fried rice, udon, and ramen. Prices are ~$11-19 per entree. When my husband and I entered the restaurant, an employee immediately greeted us and told us to sit at any table. Another employee soon came to give us menus and to take our order for foods and beverages. During the service, the employee refilled our glasses of water. At the end of the meal, the employee boxed my leftover food and thanked us for visiting. Here are my reviews for the foods: Korean vegetable pancake - 5 stars - I am not sure of the exact ingredients, but my husband and I greatly enjoyed the flavors of this appetizer. Tuna tataki - 4.5 stars - The employee did not bring out this appetizer until after our entrees were brought out, so we wondered if she had forgotten about it. She did apologize. My husband said that this tuna was very fresh and had a delicious ponzu sauce. Bento box - 4 stars - I ordered shrimp tempura, which also came with vegetable tempura, maki sushi, nigiri sushi, white rice, soup, and salads. All of these foods were fresh and flavorful. Chicken katsu - 4.5 stars - The chicken katsu had large pieces of juicy chicken that was nicely breaded. On the side was Japanese curry with white rice. My husband said that he liked this food so much that he wants to return to this restaurant in the future! The total price for our meal was $63 plus a tip. We've been going to Sushi Tomo for YEARS.. they honestly have upgraded their sushi over the past couple of years and it's delicious! They have multiple types of Toro that rivals Gi-Jin! My favorite is the Copper River salmon when they get it in for a few weeks a year ..yum! they always invent new rolls that are large and fresh..and we love their ginger dressing on the salad. The only thing that isnt super up to standard is their sushi which I would put at a 7/10. The soy sauce they use is also extremely salty so it sometimes overpowers the sushi flavors. Pretty good sushi spot in the North Hills! There aren't too many good options for Asian food near Ross Park, so this is a good choice! I tried the cold sesame noodles, haru maki, Tomo roll, and tuna roll. When I first tried the cold sesame noodles, I was a little disappointed. The sauce was too runny in my opinion, and it had a sauce that was heavy on the salt/soy sauce. I prefer cold noodles with a sauce that is thicker and similar to tahini. However, as I ate it more, I began enjoying it more! The portion is very fair and the sauce is not bad, either. 3.6/5 Haru maki is very similar to a spring roll. I loved it! It was full of vegetables and had a light sweetness to it. There was a perfect balance of crunchy on the outside and smooth, delicate vegetables on the inside. The sauce it was served with is also excellent (it's quite sweet but I like it that way)! 4.5/5 just because the portion is somewhat small. The Tomo roll is very tasty! The eel on top is not soggy; rather, it is lightly sweet and flavorful. The avocado is also quite fresh. The shrimp tempura on the inside with crunchy and well made all around. It's a bit expensive, but still fair. 4.5/5. This is my first time trying plain tuna sushi. I thought it wasn't very flavorful at first, but it is quite good when dipped in soy sauce. The roll is well made and the fish is fresh. Portion for the price is okay. 4/5. Overall, this is a nice place to get sushi in the North Hills. Their special rolls are exciting and flavorful.
