Ramen King 2 was recommended by a Pittsburgh local who said it was one of his favorite Chinese spots in the city. We stopped by for lunch a couple Sundays ago for our last meal before heading back home. Service was fast and the food came out quickly. We even got a couple steamed pork buns on the house (not sure what deal it was, forgot). It was fine, nothing special. D8. BEEF STEW NOODLE SOUP - 18.99 + hand-pulled flat noodles Pretty standard beef broth that was light and savory, but the clear winner was definitely the hand-pulled noodles. The texture was the perfectly soft yet chewy, which was incredibly addicting. Despite being full, I kept nibbling at the noodles until we got our checks and the waiter took my bowl away. However, I wish there was more beef stew or bok choy. My bowl only had a few measly chunks of meat and three leaves of vegetables. My friends didn't get the noodle soups but some other dry noodle options. Seemed to be of a hit-or-miss among our group. The portions were really disappointing (very little protein) for the prices and were quite greasy. Also, we were charged for hot tea without being informed (have never seen this at a Chinese place). We've been to Ramen King 2 several times and every time it's excellent. Everyone who works there is the most wonderful person. They did such a great job with the space. It's really nice. Now, let's talk about the food. It's absolutely fantastic. We love everything that is dumpling or noodle related. We love the soup dumplings, pork fried potstickers and the pork buns. The stir fried chicken or shrimp puled standard noodles are my favorite dish. They're so delicious due to the seasonings used. I tried the beef tonight but it wasn't my favorite. Also love the crispy tempura shrimp appetizer that tasted just Like the ones we had in Nishiki Market in Japan. My husband also loves the pork ramen. Do yourself a favor and go here immediately. Don't be fooled by the name, this place serves chinese food. Crispy chicken isn't the crispiest, beef in the beef noodle soup is kinda cartilagey, green beans are slightly less fried than other places but if that is what you are looking for then that is great for you! Tasty! Perfectly cooked rice and nice flavor. Though the service was a bit strange the staff were kind nonetheless. Everything i tried was pretty solid and I love the way this place is decorated. As other reviewers have mentioned, the name of this place is a little deceptive, but it's still worth a visit. While there is no ramen, there are a wide range of mostly Chinese dishes along with sushi, and the menu is wide-ranging so there is something for everyone. My review of what we ordered: Shrimp tempura - more heavily breaded than tempura I've had in the best, but I enjoyed how crisp it was and the sweet chili sauce on the side was the perfect compliment. Portion was generous too. Inexplicably served with sweet potato fries. Scallion pancake - this is a staple order for me when I go to Asian restaurants and this one eas pretty good, light and crispy! However it wasn't served with any dipping sauce, which we had to request. We ate it with the ginger sauce that goes along with the dumplings and that was yummy. Xiao long bao - decent soup dumplings! I'm used to this being served with a spoon so you can open the dumpling and let it cool while getting to slurp the broth and sauce. No spoon here but I enjoyed eating them. My husband also got the pork noodle soup which he said was okay but probably wouldn't order again. The decor is pretty modern though overall I would say this is definitely more of a casual restaurant. My favorite part was the TV showing Shaq (??) pulling noodles, felt like a fever dream. HOLY COW this food is delicious! I've been meaning to try it for about a year now, and thank goodness I finally did! It's very true that it looks so much nicer inside than one might ever expect from looking at the outside. It's a bright, modern, comfortable dining room with plenty of seating. There are cute murals on the walls, as well as a window that shows the chefs hand-pulling the noodles in real time. Service was super friendly and fast! My husband and I split the Spicy Pork Hand Pulled Noodles (not a soup, but listed under Noodle Soups!) and the Stir-Fried String Beans, as well as the Pan-Fried Pork Buns. Everything was SO fresh, spicy, and delicious! The noodles were saucy and perfectly chewy, and the string beans packed a nice numbing punch with their warm spices. The pork buns were very large and perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining soft and juicy inside. As a note, this is not traditional ramen in the colloquial sense, but the food and noodles in particular are excellent. Just come in with level-set expectations and you'll be a happy camper! The staff was super helpful with their recommendations and explaining the difference between knife cut noodles and hand pulled noodles. I got the knife cut noodles in my chicken stir fry per their recommendation and it was great! The knife cut noodles are thicker than the hand cut noodles. My neighbor got the hand cut noodles in the spicy chicken Ramen. It was also super flavorful (and not ridiculously spicy). I stopped by here a couple of Fridays ago with my wife and twins for some takeout. This was actually the second time we had been to Ramen King 2, which is located in the McIntyre Square shopping center just off McKnight Road. On both occasions I placed to-go orders through their website, which redirects to MealKeyway, and my food was ready for pickup when I arrived. Since I was just grabbing takeout, I didn't get a good look around inside, but it seemed clean and spacious with plenty of seating. For dinner on both visits, I ordered the spicy diced chicken cold hand-pulled noodles, while my wife went with the chicken stir-fried noodles. On my first visit, I thought the food was just okay. The chicken was moist, and the noodles had a nice texture, but the dish felt like it was missing something. Thankfully, on my second visit, there was much more of the spicy sauce (chili oil?) which helped bring the dish to the next level. My wife and twins also enjoyed the chicken from the stir-fried noodles both times, and my wife thought the noodle texture and sauce were both really good. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. Hidden gem. A little bit of a drive from the city but so worth it for these hand pulled noodle dishes. The soup dumplings were not as juicy as the ones at the new Michelin recommended place but still pretty good. I ordered chicken dice noodle soup. First, they gave me the wrong kind of noodle. Second, chicken is rotten. I told them there was a rotten smell on the chicken, they insist they just made them that morning. Third, the noodle soup serve only warm, not even hot. First things first, while I did not dock any stars from my review, people should be aware there is *no* ramen served at this restaurant. At least not in the classically associated Japanese sense. In fact the restaurant offers mainly Chinese dishes. That said, naming aside, I'm still thrilled to give it five stars. The hand pulled noodles in our meals were perfect. As were the pork and duck. The flavors were well balanced, and the ingredients were top notch in their quality and preparation. But the star of the evening was the pan fried pork dumplings (sheng jian bao). The restaurant itself was clean and spacious. The decor is homey and welcoming. The service was largely attentive though I had to fake my way with some bad mandarin. Thankfully the menu has numbers and pictures if you experience a bit of the language barrier. Headline - Ramen King was a very pleasant surprise across the board. Excellent! Had the duck ramen. The duck was juicy, with just enough fattiness and tender. Great texture to the hand pulled noodles! Good bite but tender. Well seasoned. A little on the salty side. But the left overs were amazing when I added just a touch of water to adjust the salt level. Could use more vegetables in the ramen. Eating here makes me realize that some of the other places serving ramen likely use packaged or dried ramen noodles. But the noodles at the ramen king are the real deal. This restaurant is very modern and clean. The staff are super nice!! They use electronic ordering on their ipad and can easily enter allergies. We had 2 folks in the party with quite a few severe food allergies. And they were able to serve them. No allergic reactions. Everyone enjoyed their ramen. The servers were all very nice. My wife and I took my parents to Ramen King 2 after Mom read a nice review in the paper. The food was a 4, but the service was a 2. Don't misunderstand this to mean that the staff were rude or anything less than very friendly, instead it was about the delivery of the dishes and the lack of attention after. We first ordered some potstickers and specifically asked for these to come out first so we could all share. They did, but immediately after a second and third server began to bomb us with the four sushi rolls that my wife and I ordered to share as our entrees. They offered, and we agreed to put all four on one platter. However, this didn't happen, so multiple dishes kept being plopped in front of us while we were trying to enjoy our appetizer. Then, before the potstickers were even gone, Mom's noodles arrived. Both of my folks had asked for forks instead of chopsticks in advance, but these were not provided until I was able to flag someone other than our waiter down. Mom finally got some flatware, but Dad's meal didn't arrive for another 5-10 minutes. They were literally the same thing except for the protein (shrimp for Mom, beef for Dad). While all this was going on, nobody came to clear any of the empty dishes. I had to hold up the potsticker platter until another server came to get it out of our way. Our side plates were never collected, our waters were never refilled, and our hot teas were also never topped off. As for the food itself, it was very good. The potstickers (10 per order) were served hot and crispy, the rolls were interesting and very fresh tasing, and my folks enjoyed their noodle dishes. The restaurant was very bright and clean, and we do plan to go back. I just hope they can tighten up the service experience a bit. read more
