Crowded while we were there...clearly a popular place. Just not a win for us. The service was terrific! The vibe was solid and the neighborhood was comfortable. But the food was just ok. The tempura shrimp was tasty and the miso ramen was solid.  The beef ramen had a decent flavor, but the beef was way way too fatty. The edamame was too salty, the gyoza was passable but disappointing. The donburi was tasty but the beef, again, was way way too fatty.  And, both the chicken and shrimp yakitori were terrible. Definitely the best ramen spot in Pittsburgh! The restaurant is small, but is decorated so you feel quaint and cozy. Had the garlic cucumbers and spicy miso ramen, which were incredible! Staff is welcoming and attentive! Again, it is a smaller spot, so be patient if they're experiencing a rush. Overall amazing place! I came to Fujiya before and this second visit really sealed the deal for me. The restaurant is really cute and does remind me of izakaya / ramen places in Japan a lot. It's all in the details and they have a lot of small little cute details that reminds me of Japan. Their ramen is good. The broth could use a little more depth but the noodle quality is excellent. Today, I tried their pork and chive gyoza, chicken and green onion skewers, pork belly skewer and takoyaki this visit along with miso ramen. The takoyaki is piping hot and moist on the inside, exactly how it should be and the pork chive gyoza is big and plump. The skewers were seasoned SO WELL. The tables closest to the street are so nice to sit at in the summers since the breeze and weather are so nice :) Went with out classics - Takoyaki (best in pgh), karaage (best spicy mayo in pgh), and sometimes the gyoza but we decided to skip on that this time. I tried the yuzu ramen this time but subbed for the miso broth and wow it was delicious. Super fragrant and the yuzu is such a nice touch to the broth. They just came out with a curry udon and it is DELICIOUS! I wanted to switch entrees with my partner because of it! I will definitely be back. Yakitori was definitely the highlight! We got the scallops, pork belly, shishito peppers, and shiitake mushroom skewers. I'd come back just for more yakitori and to try some of the appetizers next time. They have a yakitori set, which includes one of every skewer. The ramen was pretty standard, no complaints. I had the miso ramen, which was good and not overly salty. The flared ramen bowl made it feel like you were almost finished, but there was still a generous amount of noodles. The ramen egg was perfect - soft but not too runny - and the pork slices were thin, flavorful, and not too fatty. You get at least four slices, so I felt there was a nice balance between noodles and toppings. I loved the ambiance. The decor made it feel like a cozy local spot in Japan. Service was a little on the slow side. It took some time to flag down our waitress to order and again to get the check, but the food came out quickly once we ordered. We stopped in for restaurant week. It was very busy and hectic. Not really my vibe. We joined the online waitlist and got a text when our table was supposed to be ready. We were told the next tables were being cleaned for us and then a different lady skipped over us a couple of times and sat other people. I got the pork and chive gyoza and it was delicious. The filling was flavorful and the outside was nice and crispy. I got the Naruto Ramen and it was pretty good. I ordered bean sprouts with it and didn't get them. The noodles were cooked nicely and not overdone. I got a very small dessert of Taro flavored mochi ice cream. It was good, but extremely tiny. There were 2 servings on the photo, they put my husbands with mine. Overall, it was good. I don't know if I would go back unless they fix the wait system. read more

Even if you're not in the mood for ramen, Fujiya is a great spot! We decided to pop in on a cold snowy day, and it was definitely the right choice. We sat at the bar and got our drinks right away. We split the hot toddy, and it was full of flavor and was the perfect way to warm up after being outside. While we did feel it was a bit pricy, it was delicious nonetheless. We split several menu items, including yakitori, okonomiyaki, and pork buns. The crispy chicken yakitori was to die for, and I'm still thinking about the light, crispiness days later. The pork belly yakitori was cooked to perfection, and the chicken yakitori was tender, but the latter would have been better with a sauce or some additional seasoning. The okonomiyaki was such a delightful blend of texture and flavor, while not being overpowering. I am not usually a cabbage fan, but this blew me away! The pork buns were a solid finish. The pork was tender and juicy, and the sauce combo was a perfect blend of savory, sweet, and light spice. Found this ramen place through Yelp. It's a small spot but definitely worth the try. Good for date night but it's a little cramped, but it's nice! The chicken karage was great! I liked the spicy mayo sauce for it. The old fashion was ok not like a speakeasy taste but good for a ramen spot, same goes for the espresso martini. The chicken ramen was really good! 1/8/25 Ate List: Tonkatsu Ramen - Score 10 I have been going to this place since about 2017/2018. It's my favorite ramen spot in the city. I've kept it secret from most but now that it seems the secret is out by the number of videos I've seen on Instagram - Yes, the hype is real. The ramen here is incredible. When the season is right or I'm feeling a bit under the weather, I will get the Pork Tonkatsu ramen with an extra runny egg and I feel REVIVED. I feel instantly better every time I have it. I got the vegetable ramen and my friend and I split the vegetable tempura (delicious) and an asparagus and bacon skewer and a mushroom skewer. I recently ordered takeout from Fujiya Ramen. We ordered the Okonomiyaki as an appetizer. It was cooked perfectly and had a lot of good flavors! For our entrees, I ordered the chicken ramen and my friend ordered the eel don. The takeout packaging was great so items didn't overcook/get soggy. Overall our food was great. In addition to ramen, their menu lists appetizers such as edamame and gyoza, entrees such as okonomiyaki and donburi rice bowls, desserts such as mochi and ice-cream tempura, and beverages such as tea and ramune. Prices are average for the industry. I ordered several foods from Fujiya Ramen's online menu. Here are my reviews for those foods: Fried-chicken katsu - 4.5 stars - This chicken katsu consisted of juicy meat that was covered in crispy panko breadcrumbs. My husband said that it tasted good. Chicken yakitori - 4.5 stars - This yakitori was smaller in size that I had expected, but it was juicy and flavorful. Nikuman - 4 stars - The buns were fresh, and the pork was fatty and tasty. Tempura vegetables - 4.5 stars - These vegetables included asparagus, broccoli, eggplant, onions, red peppers, and taro, and they were fried well. I have never been a fan of taro, but I thought that this taro tasted decent with the batter and sauce, and I really liked the other vegetables. Vegetarian ramen - 3 stars - This soup contained a good amount of noodles, mushrooms, spinach, bamboo shoots, egg, scallions, and corn. For some reason, I did not like the flavors of a couple of the ingredients, and I ended up picking them out. Beef ramen - 4.5 stars - This soup contained beef, mushrooms, egg, spinach, and scallions. My husband ate it and said that it tasted fine. I tried one spoonful, and I liked it. I would order from this restaurant again in the future so I can try several more of their menu items. read more

Wow! I consider myself somewhat of a ramen enthusiast, so I can't believe it's taken me this long to finally sample their food! My wife, two toddler aged boys and I came in on President's Day and were warmly greeted by our host and server and shown to a table. We were provided with high chairs and I was really impressed and pleased to see that it was a clean and functional chair! I feel like most places we go the chairs are broken and somewhat sticky/gross and so this is noteworthy to me. This restaurant has a nice ambiance and at the time we came they were several other small groups and everyone was happily chatting and enjoying large bowls of ramen. I'm sure our kids were a bit distracting, but the waitstaff made us feel welcome and were helpful in confirming additional food recommendations. We started with a share edamame appetizer and then also ordered two yakitori skewers (chicken and pork belly). The edamame and yakitori came out a few minutes before our gyoza which was then shortly followed by the ramen bowls. The portion of edamame was generous and gratefully devoured by our boys who were less interested in ramen. The yakitori had a great char on the chicken and made for tasty pork belly morsels too. The gyoza were out of this world good! They may have been my favorite part of the meal. They were slightly crunchy yet chewy, were loaded with meat and veggies, and had a great flavor. The ramen was also quite good! I found the chashu a little too fatty for my taste; however, the broth had rendered the fat very well and so it was almost completely imperceptible. The spiciness of the dish was good without being overwhelming, and the noodles were perfectly chewy without being over or undercooked. I liked it so much that I came back and ate here the very next day, and am already thinking about when my next visit might be. As with anything near Walnut, parking can be tricky to find. The restaurant itself is small and cozy but has a fun vibe. My tween daughter loved the novelty shirts on the wall, especially the one that said "my favorite type of men is ramen". Great selection of drinks - the Lolev matcha ale was quite good and paired well with spicy ramen. My daughter loved the ramune and tried the strawberry and blue Hawaii flavors, and enjoyed the novelty of the marble in the bottle. The yakitori - wow!! We tried the chicken, pork belly, and chicken skin. All were absolutely fantastic. I'd love to come back and try the yakitori platter because the flavors were amazing. The tonkatsu and miso ramen were both delicious, portions are generous! On our second visit, my husband and I split a bowl and both walked away happy. It's great to be back after the pandemic! As was a tradition till four years ago, I loved my "mini vacation" into Japanese cuisine on my birthday. The prices are about typical for a ramen house (and middle of the road when it comes to restaurants... figure a bowl of Ramen soup to usually cost $18-$20), metered street parking is available and free after 6pm or Sundays, they do have a 5-6pm happy hour, and around 7:45pm we were seated quickly. Portion sizes are large! My wife would recommend a jacket just in case, because they can open up a huge glass window at the front of the shop, which I appreciate for the fresh air and wonderful smells as you approach the restaurant. The broth on my Tonkotsu Ramen was rich and flavorful in a way you don't get by adding an egg to dried ramen packets, the noodles are a special chewy, the spinach and scallions fresh and nutritious, and the pork belly slices are served almost translucent but the broth's heat tempers them as you eat. You can eat the pork early for a buttery, melt in your mouth experience, or eat those noodles and veg while they're chewy and crisp and come back to the pork later and it will have firmed up like boiled meat. There will be a couple spices at the very bottom of the bowl... be careful if you don't like bitter things! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her vegetarian ramen, though I would recommend asking about eggs if you don't eat them. I do think the little ramen house is cute, staff are quick and attentive, and the food is something special. I always have a great time, but between drinks and appetizers, I always spend like $60 and leave super full (but content!). Great for an unpretentious but special night out :) read more
