    Spicy Miso Ramen
    Kristin M.

Definitely the best ramen spot in Pittsburgh! The restaurant is small, but is decorated so you feel quaint and cozy. Had the garlic cucumbers and spicy miso ramen, which were incredible! Staff is welcoming and attentive! Again, it is a smaller spot, so be patient if they're experiencing a rush. Overall amazing place! Only downside are their hours being a bit odd, so be on the lookout if you're trying to pop in mid afternoon as they're typically closed then.

Amazing Thursday evening dinner at Fujiya! The tables closest to the street are so nice to sit at in the summers since the breeze and weather are so nice :) Went with out classics - Takoyaki (best in pgh), karaage (best spicy mayo in pgh), and sometimes the gyoza but we decided to skip on that this time. I tried the yuzu ramen this time but subbed for the miso broth and wow it was delicious. Super fragrant and the yuzu is such a nice touch to the broth. They just came out with a curry udon and it is DELICIOUS! I wanted to switch entrees with my partner because of it! I will definitely be back. The curry is the perfect consistency and the best Japanese curry I've had in the area. The udon is so well cooked as well! I can't wait to go back and order it

Yakitori was definitely the highlight! We got the scallops, pork belly, shishito peppers, and shiitake mushroom skewers. I'd come back just for more yakitori and to try some of the appetizers next time. They have a yakitori set, which includes one of every skewer. The ramen was pretty standard, no complaints. I had the miso ramen, which was good and not overly salty. The flared ramen bowl made it feel like you were almost finished, but there was still a generous amount of noodles. The ramen egg was perfect - soft but not too runny - and the pork slices were thin, flavorful, and not too fatty. You get at least four slices, so I felt there was a nice balance between noodles and toppings. I loved the ambiance. The decor made it feel like a cozy local spot in Japan. Service was a little on the slow side. It took some time to flag down our waitress to order and again to get the check, but the food came out quickly once we ordered. Despite the slower service, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

First time here and I can honestly rank it pretty high on my list having been to plenty of Ramen places. I'll definitely come back excellent service!

Still so good. Service is always so kind and informative and very patient with my dad who had a million questions. Best vegetarian ramen in town. Small place, advise to call ahead for seating.

    Restaurant week!

We stopped in for restaurant week. It was very busy and hectic. Not really my vibe. We joined the online waitlist and got a text when our table was supposed to be ready. We were told the next tables were being cleaned for us and then a different lady skipped over us a couple of times and sat other people. I got the pork and chive gyoza and it was delicious. The filling was flavorful and the outside was nice and crispy. I got the Naruto Ramen and it was pretty good. I ordered bean sprouts with it and didn't get them. The noodles were cooked nicely and not overdone. I got a very small dessert of Taro flavored mochi ice cream. It was good, but extremely tiny. There were 2 servings on the photo, they put my husbands with mine. Overall, it was good. I don't know if I would go back unless they fix the wait system.

    Hot Toddy

Even if you're not in the mood for ramen, Fujiya is a great spot! We decided to pop in on a cold snowy day, and it was definitely the right choice. We sat at the bar and got our drinks right away. We split the hot toddy, and it was full of flavor and was the perfect way to warm up after being outside. While we did feel it was a bit pricy, it was delicious nonetheless. We split several menu items, including yakitori, okonomiyaki, and pork buns. The crispy chicken yakitori was to die for, and I'm still thinking about the light, crispiness days later. The pork belly yakitori was cooked to perfection, and the chicken yakitori was tender, but the latter would have been better with a sauce or some additional seasoning. The okonomiyaki was such a delightful blend of texture and flavor, while not being overpowering. I am not usually a cabbage fan, but this blew me away! The pork buns were a solid finish. The pork was tender and juicy, and the sauce combo was a perfect blend of savory, sweet, and light spice. Service was a bit on the slow side, but the restaurant was busy and the staff were all incredibly friendly, so we didn't mind the wait at all. Highly recommend!

    Karaage (both sauces)

Found this ramen place through Yelp. It's a small spot but definitely worth the try. Good for date night but it's a little cramped, but it's nice! The chicken karage was great! I liked the spicy mayo sauce for it. The old fashion was ok not like a speakeasy taste but good for a ramen spot, same goes for the espresso martini. The chicken ramen was really good! I loved their broth! I've come here a few times and I always get the same thing, so not sure on the other things. Will definitely be back again for some ramen.

Pork Tonkaysu Ramen w/ an extra egg

1/8/25 Ate List: Tonkatsu Ramen - Score 10 I have been going to this place since about 2017/2018. It's my favorite ramen spot in the city. I've kept it secret from most but now that it seems the secret is out by the number of videos I've seen on Instagram - Yes, the hype is real. The ramen here is incredible. When the season is right or I'm feeling a bit under the weather, I will get the Pork Tonkatsu ramen with an extra runny egg and I feel REVIVED. I feel instantly better every time I have it. I have CRAVED this dish and I will again soon I'm sure. Fujiya Ramen is the best.

Went back this past week after about a year since my last visit. Everything was perfect. My waitress was so lovely this time!! Super kind and knowledgeable. Food was SO delicious. Had my classic go-to Spicy Miso Ramen. Loved the Lychee martini- it was perfection. Also really enjoyed the Takoyaki- might be some of the best in the city. Overall, so glad I had a wonderful experience and will continue to give them business

Normal ramen but damn the skewers are where its at geez theyre freaking delicious. Get the pork belly (has a bit of fat).

The best ramen in Pittsburgh! I've only gotten the spicy miso ramen but it's so amazing, it blows my mind every time. The appetizers are delicious as well! The pork buns melt in your mouth. The pork and chive gyoza are great! Their drink menu is solid; lychee martini is perfect, and the seasonal specials have been great! The servers are always so kind and inviting. The space is small but cozy. It makes for a great date night!

    Matcha ice cream and taiyaki

Fujiya Ramen in Shadyside delivers legit flavor. I had the tonkatsu ramen and a mix of yakitori--chicken skin, eel, pork, and chicken--and everything was on point. The ramen was rich and creamy, super comforting, and the yakitori had great char and seasoning. Chill atmosphere, fast service, and definitely a go-to if you're craving something authentic.

The seating is basically one giant bar area (with two standalone tables in the back), so not being able to sit across from each other made it difficult to carry conversations. However, we got to sit in the coveted orange chair which was cool! For a drink, I ordered the Fu Dog. Their drink menu has detailed descriptions and also illustrated pictures of the drinks. That was nice and helped me decide what I wanted to order. For food, I ordered the ikura (salmon roe) nigiri, and miso black cod. The food and drinks are delicious. It was also neat to be able to see the food and drinks being prepared. I thought this place was really neat and the food was great! I'll definitely visit again but just with a smaller party!

My husband ate dinner at this restaurant when it first opened in 2024, and we ate dinner together here recently. For our recent dinner, we had a reservation to sit at the bar counter. The hostess and waitress promptly seated us and politely spoke with us. The waitress mentioned the daily specials and explained that the restaurant flies in fish from Japan. The chefs prepared our foods in a reasonable time. Our starters were the Ginger Salad (4 stars, slightly too much ginger dressing but fresh greens and carrots) and the Spicy Tuna Rice Cake (4 stars, my husband commented on the fried rice but liked the tuna, avocado, mayo, and jalapeño). Our main courses were the Spicy Scallop Maki Roll (4 stars) and the Nigiri Plate (4 stars, two pieces each of lean tuna, salmon, hamachi/yellowtail, and added otoro for $54). My dessert was the Matcha Misu (4 stars, tiramisu cream, matcha honey tea, and lady-finger cookie). My husband's impression one year ago was that employees in Bakery Square were initially excited to have a sushi restaurant but then thought that the quality did not quite match the higher price. We have eaten sushi in many restaurants in Pittsburgh and in Japan, and after my dinner here, I agree with him. Nevertheless, if you like sushi, then I think that Golden Gai is worth a try.

That translated into a very restrictive perimeter around my hotel from which I chose this fusion spot for dinner. The menu was quite a hodgepodge of familiar Asian plates. I have to admit though when I saw ramen and stir-fries on the same menu, I was wondering how well they do it all. I tried two items starting with the $13 Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The chicken was stir-fried with carrot, mushroom, and scallion in an excess of brown sauce. They provided enough iceberg lettuce to handle it, but the sauciness really let me down (Photo 9). The second dish, the Sichuan String Beans with Shrimp, was better but still overshadowed by whatever sauté seasoning they used quite liberally (Photo 10).
