Got takeout from here and thought the food was just OK. I ordered a katsu curry and a gyudon. The katsu curry was pretty good, but the gyudon was not. The beef was cut way too thick and some of the pieces were just too chewy. One positive is that the portion sizes here are huge and you get a lot of bang for your bucks.

Greattttt portion size. The amount of salmon they give you is a generous amount in the sakedon. The rice is always nice and soft. The turnaround time is quite quick for food so I like going here when I'm in a rush! It's a small restaurant, so keeping a respectful volume is encouraged.

Mystery date... LUNCH?! Yup. Switching it up today. Every other week I pick a restaurant and tell my wife when to be ready and how to dress but not where we are going. This week we did lunch at Oishii Donburi. I got the Bulgolgi Bimbimbab. The egg was perfectly gooey inside the beef was super tender and the veggies were packed high. The spicy Korean sauce added a nice kick and I'm glad it came on the side. I also got the Kyoza and the soy sauce it came with was smoky and so damn good. Some of the best fried dumplings I've had anywhere. My wife got the Bulgolgi bowl and it was incredible. The onions were so plentiful and yummy. We saw someone order the katsudon and it looked incredible we have to come back!

    Katsu and unagi bowl

We got the katsu bowl and unagi bowl. Huge portions for the price. The grilled eel was tender and the teriyaki sauce was super flavorful. Definitely worth the drive!

Great dinner experience at Oishii Donburi! I have gone to their location in Oakland many times and was excited to try out this lawrenceville location. Menu is similar to the Oakland location but this location has curry! This location's interior is also a more fancy than the Oakland location. We did not have a problem finding street parking outside the restaurant. There is limited seating with a few tables and counter seating. When we came it was not too busy and we easily found a table. I always enjoy their free hot barley tea which is perfect for this chilly weather. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food came out hot and fresh. We were both very satisfied with our delicious food! Overall great place for a nice, fast casual dinner

Small but cute place, great for takeout particularly if you're hanging around one of the local breweries. Recommend the rice bowls in particular. Last time we got the Hae Dub Bab. I almost passed on ordering at first because seemed pretty pricey for takeout bowl, but I was happy with the amount and quality of fish. We also tried the gyudon which was excellent. I did get the tempura shrimp udon once to go, and that was a bit of a fail - mainly because of the fact that it was to go. The tempura shrimp were put in the soup instead of on the side, so by the time I ate it, it was a soggy mess. The udon itself was fine but not stellar. Definitely want to go back and try the takoyaki and some other dishes

I really didn't try much from this place, but I can already tell the food quality is very high. They serve many delicious dishes, but I decided to order something relatively simple and small: tacoyaki. Wow, it was very tasty! I don't think I've ever had proper tacoyaki, and now I'm hooked. They are octopus balls with a bready covering, sauce, and seaweed on top. The packaging was also quite lovely. I have no complaints about the flavor. They used the perfect amount of sauce (a type of Mayo and eel sauce I think) and it was delicious. Perfect texture. A tad on the soft side. I will say that you don't get that much octopus with each ball (just a bit in the middle), but it's still delicious. The portion is solid, too. All in all, this place serves excellent Japanese food. If the rest of menu is as good as the tacoyaki, I'd definitely come back for more. Please do try the tacoyaki!

Enjoyed my first time here. Ordered a bulgogi rice bowl extra spicy. It was very good but really lacked in any sense of spice relative to salty Thai food 1-5. Probably a 2. The tacoyaki ocotopus balls were tasty and prepared fresh. Counter service and pick your table. I'll definitely be back

The price to serving size ratio is about as good as you can ask for these days. The Gyudon is a great option for a quick dinner. Love it

The seafood is fresh, and the menu features several creative options. We tried a variety of items (Nigiri, Temaki, Takoyaki, and the daily specials) and honestly loved everything! I highly recommend a reservation as they do not take many walk ins, especially for big parties and definitely take advantage of their happy hour menu (5-6pm). Their HH menu allows you to try some of their most popular bites for a fraction of the cost! Items that we ALWAYS order are the karaage, stir fried udon wit shrimp tempura, at least 3 skewers, the lychee martinis, Takoyaki, and some variation of toro. We try to mix in others every time and have never had a bad bite! Servers are always so kind to us and can't wait until my next visit! Hopefully it's soon!

Reservations are highly recommended - it's on the smaller side. The menu has so many options and an amazing variety. One thing to note is this Japanese food is not like most others. Its focus is on homestyle, also fried/stir fried Japanese dishes. So do not expect Ramen or noodle soups. A couple things that are always ordered is the Kaarage, Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki (best in the city), yakisoba or udon, and gyoza. The staff is so sweet and the decorations remind me of Izakaya places in larger cities. They have a bar with cool cocktails and adorable bento boxes they sell during lunch hours throughout the week. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

The takoyaki has a crunchy outside and a good flavor (4/5), and the okonomiyaki is pretty filling (4/5); these were the best two. The yaki-udon with shrimp was ok (3/5) but definitely expensive for what it was and the quantity; they also don't add much shrimp, despite the up charge. The sake no shioyaki was below average for salmon (2/5) and very expensive for that amount they give you. Similarly, the onigiri is almost entirely rice if you add salmon (2/5). You order on a tablet, and they bring the food out. Service was ok (3/5); we had empty waters for a while. The restaurant is well-decorated, and you can see the chefs work, which gives it an ambiance somewhat like a hibachi place (4/5). Overall, I think most of the items are pretty expensive for what they are; they don't have the quality or quantity to justify the price.

We originally booked dinner and a karaoke room, but we ended up just doing the karaoke. We arrived on time and were taken to our private room. The employee was having technical difficulties but finally got everything working after 5-10 minutes. We asked about drinks and were told that someone would come in to check on us and take our drink orders. The karaoke room reservations are only for an hour so we got right into it! About 20 minutes into our session, no one had come in to take our drink orders. I decided to go out to the bar and order them myself. That took a little while so I was sad to have missed that time in the karaoke room. Our session ended right at the top of the hour, which is fine. However, the difficulties weren't factored in. No one did ever come in to check on us or take our drink order the whole time we were in there. Lastly, we had to figure out how to pay for the room. I asked a couple of people and was told to go to the bar bit the bartender couldn't find my reservation. He finally did and we paid and left. I love cobra and will try to visit for dinner one last time. However, the service this most recent time left some room to be desired.
