If I could give the food a negative number, I would. I have no idea how they have such a high rating. I ordered the BULGOGI BIBIMBAB. It was served in a plastic dish, not a dolsot. The vegetables were refrigerator cold, the rice was luke warm and the bulgogi was of poor quality. I was verbal about it. When we were getting up to leave, the cook asked us to take it home. I shook my head and made a sour face. He KNEW I did not like it, but said nothing. I also ordered the SHUMAI which turned out to be balls of soggy mush. A hidden gem on Butler street in upper Lawrenceville! Shortly after arriving at 6pm, there was a line to the door with customers waiting for online orders and ordering takeout at the counter. It's a small restaurant with limited tables and bar seating. They offer free hot barley tea. The food is tasty and service is very fast. We ordered at the counter, sat down at the bar, and they brought our food to us. The food automatically comes in a to-go dish, which is nice because the portions are large enough for about 2 leftover meals. The beef bulgogi bibimbap was excellent, and the kyoza dumplings were fried just right. I will be coming back to try other menu items soon. read more

Mystery date... LUNCH?! Yup. Switching it up today. Every other week I pick a restaurant and tell my wife when to be ready and how to dress but not where we are going. This week we did lunch at Oishii Donburi. I got the Bulgolgi Bimbimbab. The egg was perfectly gooey inside the beef was super tender and the veggies were packed high. The spicy Korean sauce added a nice kick and I'm glad it came on the side. I also got the Kyoza and the soy sauce it came with was smoky and so damn good. Some of the best fried dumplings I've had anywhere. My wife got the Bulgolgi bowl and it was incredible. The onions were so plentiful and yummy. Great dinner experience at Oishii Donburi! I have gone to their location in Oakland many times and was excited to try out this lawrenceville location. Menu is similar to the Oakland location but this location has curry! This location's interior is also a more fancy than the Oakland location. We did not have a problem finding street parking outside the restaurant. There is limited seating with a few tables and counter seating. When we came it was not too busy and we easily found a table. I always enjoy their free hot barley tea which is perfect for this chilly weather. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food came out hot and fresh. I really didn't try much from this place, but I can already tell the food quality is very high. They serve many delicious dishes, but I decided to order something relatively simple and small: tacoyaki. Wow, it was very tasty! I don't think I've ever had proper tacoyaki, and now I'm hooked. They are octopus balls with a bready covering, sauce, and seaweed on top. The packaging was also quite lovely. I have no complaints about the flavor. They used the perfect amount of sauce (a type of Mayo and eel sauce I think) and it was delicious. Perfect texture. A tad on the soft side. I will say that you don't get that much octopus with each ball (just a bit in the middle), but it's still delicious. The portion is solid, too. All in all, this place serves excellent Japanese food. My wife and I stopped by here a couple of Saturday's ago for dinner. I had actually noticed Oishi on Yelp as another Yelper had given them a favorable review. Whenever I looked up their website I was excited to see that they had curry as I hadn't had a good Japanese curry in a long time. So our next free Saturday my wife and I found their menu of the website and called in a takeout order. The restaurant is located right on Butler Street in Upper Lawrenceville and had street parking available right in front of it whenever we arrived. Our food was ready at the quoted time and the pickup was simple and we headed home to eat it. For dinner on this evening I ordered a mixed katsudon curry and my wife also ordered the mix katsudon curry. I loved that I was able to get tofu, shrimp and chicken all in the same meal and the breading on all of them was nice and light. That gave them all a nice crunch while allowing the protein to still shine through. However it was the curry that was the star of the dish to me. I haven't had a good Japanese curry sauce since the last time I had visited Honolulu and so I was excited that I was able to find one in Pittsburgh. Finally the accompanying daikon provided a little bit of sourness to the dish which made it interesting. My wife also enjoyed her meal here. The bottom line for me is that I will definitely head back here again in the future. I loved everything about my dish, especially that curry, and look forward to be able to eat it again. read more

Absolutely great for takeout! I've loved their original location in Oakland when I was still in college and this place is serves the same high quality food in lawrenceville! The gyudons are new to this location and it was wonderfully warm and homey. I did only wish it was offered spicy. The bulgogi bowl is my usual order and it was great as well. They always show up super hot and tasty. The Beef Bulgogi bowl is such a hearty portion. I love it because I will always have leftover to take to work the next day (makes me coworkers jealous when I spread the scent throughout the office!) They do not even skimp you on the amount of beef you get, it's a really satisfying serving. The veggies in the Chicken Katsu Bibimbap are so fresh and tasty and never greasy. Chicken is always fresh, tasty and not greasy. It is literally everything you want in a Bibimbab. Such a great combo of flavors and textures! We recently tried the Ebi Tempura, which we were holding off on trying just because it's a little pricy for shrimp. Boy was it worth it! Super fresh shrimp, crisped to perfection and not greasy at all. My bank account hates me, but my taste buds don't care and love me. I appreciate they put the sauce on the side so you can choose between no spicy to very spicy. The bibimbap had carrots, spinach, bean sprouts and zucchini! First time here, and just had the bbq eel Unagi bowl. I love bbq eel, but the frozen crap most discount sushi spots serve ruins it for most people. This HAS TO BE FRESH eel, I don't know for 100% sure, but there was zero fishy flavor which is honestly pretty rare when eating eel from other spots, and it's a TUESDAY....not exactly the freshest of days. Eel is not cheap, but they serve an aggressively large portion, which always melts my cheap Greek heart. All the components worked perfectly. I'm seriously obsessed.
