Yoshino was my favorite sushi spot in Pittsburgh! The maki combo #3 was a staple of mine. It comes with Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura & Spicy Crab Roll for $21! The shrimp tempura is my favorite. The tempura is always super crispy and the eel sauce is great! Normally, I ordered Yoshino for takeout, but whenever I dined in, the service was outstanding. The waitress would regularly refill our water and tea. The presentation is always spectacular. I've gotten everything from a sushi boat to a sauce dragon. Would highly recommend Yoshino! read more

This place was awesome. The interior decor was set up really nice, the service was very friendly and fast, the prices were pretty standard but very good during the lunch specials, and most importantly the food was not only presented well but tasted great as well. They put a lot of thought and effort into presenting their food, in all sorts of different dishes with decorations around it as well. Really adds to the experience. read more

Service was great the staff is very kind. There are so many options on the menu we had to get a little bit of everything. Started with the calamari and pork fried dumplings. I'm so confused by these reviews. I stopped by on a Monday at noon for take-out with a friend. The place was literally empty until one customer came in and sat at the sushi bar. I got a $30 salmon teriyaki lunch that was inedible. The salmon was not fresh and it was extremely overcooked. Even worse, it was swimming in sauce. I'm sorry that I forgot to take a photo of it. I just pitched it in the trash. My friend got chicken and broccoli and said it was "fine." read more

We did not mean to end up here for dinner but we are so glad we did! This was one of our best meals in a while. First off every worker was the nicest person. They were sooo friendly! We ended up getting the sushi and sashimi combo that was $40. It was wonderful. There was so much on it that I have not had before...so fresh!!! This came with soup so my husband had the miso and thought it was the best he ever had. I added wonton soup, and it was really good. The wontons were so good that I would love to taste the dumplings the next time we go, and there will be a next time for sure! read more

Such a cute and fun place to get sushi! The rolls are huge, and they decorate them in such a cute way. Food comes out fast too which is a huge plus. The only downfall was that it was kind of...run down? One of the front doors was broken and looked like it had been for a while. I don't typically review takeout orders, but this one was too good not to highlight! My boyfriend and I ordered a sushi feast for dinner the other night, and we loved it! We picked some different rolls to share as well as salmon sushi & edamame. My favorite thing about Yoshino is the wide variety of specialty rolls they offer. Our favorites were the allison roll & pink pantheress roll. Both were super bright and had some spice. We both agreed that the edamame could use some extra flavoring, so we created a spice mix at home & coated that over the edamame. I will definitely be ordering from Yoshino again! read more

Yoshino is consistently tasty and quick! Yoshino is THE Sunday night takeout spot. Most times they deliver food to my house within 30 minutes of ordering. My boyfriend enjoys their beef lo mien, general tsos, and salmon nigiri. I typically order sushi. The cucumber/avocado rolls, salmon, spicy tuna, and California rolls are all gluten free. When I've eaten inside the restaurant, the service was good and the food was just as tasty. Great window seats for people watching on Walnut street. read more

I pick up sushi from here pretty regularly because I live so close. It's always been ready fast and it's great every time. I haven't sat down and eaten here before so I can't speak on the sit down service or atmosphere really, but the sushi is great! Only downside is that I find it's a little pricey but it's great quality. I really like that they have some fun veggie rolls also! read more

This is now my go to spot for takeout sushi in Pittsburgh! This is definitely some of the best sushi I've had for takeout. We got a few different kinds and they all came in a platter so we could share the different rolls. I didn't even need soy sauce for some of the rolls because they already had so much flavor. Great food, decent ambience, and mediocre service :). I can't speak to all the food here, but the sushi rolls are quite good and also generously proportioned. Between the three of us we got the following rolls: The Mount Everest roll: 10 pieces of yellowtail and salmon with avocado. Delicious. Monster Roll: 10 pieces of spicy tuna, Kani, cucumber, avocado. Spider roll: 5 pieces of soft shell crab Orochi Roll: similar to spider roll but 10 pieces and came with spicy crab -- I liked it better. Marilyn Mon Roll: yeah you read that right :). 10 pieces of Soft shell crab, masago, cucumber. Was good. Sakan Roll: had eel and kani in it. Was great. Again 10 pieces. This was quite a feat to finish for three of us, but we managed :). Everything was great, except for the service, which let's be kind and say was on the curt side . read more

Man! What a fun place to find. The food and the presentation were equally awesome. My friend had been here many times before. They have an entire bubble tea menu but! no bubble tea after 8pm. Honestly this is the best I've had in the area. The tea flavor was high quality not too sweet and the boba was perfect. Also, I really enjoyed the Mario Cart roll (crunchy shrimp and other yummy stuff.. pink rice wrapper) and I got the lobster avocado f salad. If you don't like wasabi it might not be for you! But I enjoyed it. Just kept chocking on the wasabi spice a little I am really excited to come back and enjoy this menu more! Plenty of options and their prices were reasonable. Kind of middling, but I can't tell if that's just my specific order or a more general issue. We ordered takeout on a Saturday afternoon, and the online ordering experience was great. The only ordering issue was the distinction between the Japanese/sushi side of the menu and the Chinese/Thai side of the menu (which is itself a weird grouping). It wasn't always clear where to find a particular dish (e.g., miso soup was on the Chinese/Thai side of the menu, for some reason). The food itself was mixed. The California roll was solid, but the hipster roll was kind of a mess. Beyond just the avocado of questionable quality, it seemed like the combination of ingredients was both out of balance and uninspired. The salmon poke bowl was probably the best item in our order: it was nicely arranged with nicely balanced ingredients. Overall, the restaurant was fine. It just wasn't sufficiently inspired for me to head back again. read more

Sushi is good here and always beautiful decorated! My only qualm is that I've noticed the rolls get smaller over time, which is understandable with the cost of ingredients now a days. The Sakan roll was $16 and came with 8 pieces, but each piece was only a bit larger than the size of a quarter. Overall, the sushi is always good, but expensive in my opinion for the quality. read more

We were in Shadyside on a late Thursday evening, and settled on Yoshino. I'm sure this place gets crowded during the normal rush hours, but we were seated promptly to a booth of our choice. Yoshino had a great selection of maki, and if you don't go for the crazy "specialty" rolls, the prices were also quite reasonable. What I appreciated most was even the normal maki used really thick whole pieces, whether it was salmon or yellowtail or tuna. They plated everything beautifully, and particularly by sushi standards, our order came out promptly. read more

A Walnut St. staple!! Yoshino surprises me again and again. From their thoughtful and unique dish presentation to fresh food, I've always had a great meal. Although admittedly lacking in ambiance, I find that the friendly service and food makes this a worthwhile stop. One of my favorite activities as a grad student living in shadyside is to grab a booth or a seat by the window and study with a side of sushi. It's been a long time since I've had roti canai. and I've been craving it lately. Yoshino is known for their sushi, but they also serve this dish, among other items like Chinese classics, some Thai food, noodles, lots of appetizers, and more. I tried their shrimp egg roll, classic egg roll, pork dumplings, and roti canai. The egg rolls were relatively standard. I believe they gave me the wrong ones, though. I believe I received a spring roll with shrimp and an egg roll with pork (not what I originally ordered). Still, they were pretty tasty. Not much shrimp in the shrimp roll. The egg roll was decent in size but a bit on the expensive side. Flavor is very standard, goes well with some of the complimentary sauces. I even dipped it in my leftover curry sauce. The pork dumplings were extremely disappointing. The only genuinely tasty part of these dumplings was the sauce. They were far too doughy and thick. The inside was odd and slimy. The pork was not raw, but seemed to be undercooked a bit. The smell was similar to peanuts and just strange. Flavor was terrible. Would not recommend. The roti Canai, however, was very good. I would go here just for some roti Canai, since it's difficult to find here in Pittsburgh. The roti portion was great and the bread was well made (great texture, oiliness level, and flavor). The dipping sauce/curry was excellent. A bit sweet and coconutty, and paired so well with the roti. I just don't understand why they put the roti on some wilted lettuce (no one is going to eat that lettuce, its irrelevant to the dish and it's just a waste). All in all, this place is known for sushi, and maybe that is their strength. But, their Chinese staples like egg rolls and dumplings are definitely lacking. If you come here, try the roti Canai (its very tasty and difficult to find in this area). Prices are a bit on the high side. read more

We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!
