Pad Thai with tofu
Maansi S.

Not a lot of vegetarian options here. The edamame wasn't bad, and I liked the quantity of it. The sushi was okay, but I've had better, for cheaper, at the grocery store. The pad Thai wasn't bad either, but I didn't really taste the peanuts. For the quality of the food here, I can easily say that this restaurant is overpriced. When walking inside you can tell it's nicely decorated, so you'll expect to pay a lot, but the quality of the food doesn't match the ambiance at all. Drinks weren't bad but still fairly overpriced. Service was good, staff were friendly. Don't think I'd come back again though.

I had a nice time here... i was going to a show and my friend bailed so I just went to the bar for some snacks and it was really nice. The spritz was really good, the edamame was on point (I ate it all!) and I had a spicy tuna roll which was good. No complaints at all, had a lovely time and they were right next to the theater which was perfect!

Godzilla Roll, spicy tuna

Food5/5 Ginger fried rice with chicken was perfect Red Dragon Chicken- nice heat to it and really good Sushi rolls-Spicy Tuna, Godzilla and tunarashi all were great Restaurant and atmosphere (3/5) Great atmosphere and lighting. The seats in the booth have weird seats and you sink into them. They might want to get some new seats. The AC was broke and it was ungodly hot trying to eat. Service was a tad slow and the check prices were higher than what was listed on the menu. Luckily I caught that and they took off the overcharge which I was glad they did. Would definitely give the place another shot based on the quality of food. Value-4/5 Around $130(+tip)for two people 3 sushi rolls, two dishes we shared, 2 beers and a glass of wine.

Seated via Resy Reservations Food & Drink: 4 / 5 - Mixed Drink - Matcha Muse: I know....more "Matcha", but hear me out. This was a combination that I did not expect to actually work, but it does. The bartender does an amazing job that very few in my experience have been able to do, which is blend the drink to where it is not just 90% alcohol and 10% whatever else. This allows you to really experience the drink and its fancy little name. Food: Entree - Godzilla: This was recommended by my waiter at the time because it was the first time ever that I have tried sushi and I was not disappointed. This dish was sooooo delicious. Dessert - Churro Cheesecake: What can I say? It's cheesecake and churros. Not a big fan of sweets, but I do love me a good cheesecake. Service: 5 / 5 - No complaints. Waiter was very attentive and made sure to check in periodically. He was very passionate about his job and provided strong recommendations with his opinion on the choices when asked. When he found out that this was my first time having sushi, he took the time to explain how the menu works, which I have horrible memory, but appreciate deeply. Wouldn't mind having him as a regular waiter in the future. Vibe: 4 / 5 - Restaurant and food presentation is very pretty, clean and aim to provide you with that "fancy restaurant" experience, that so many people have come to expect. It's a very chill vibe and lighting is not bad at all. Overall: 4 / 5 - Normally, I have a rule that I don't have ocean related dishes in an area where the ocean is not readily accessible. However, an acquaintance once said, "you have to have several mid dishes before you enjoy a really good dish" and she was right. Although, I wouldn't call social house mid. I enjoyed my experience overall and the staff was very friendly. The cost-food value is on the higher end, but in my opinion it was worth it. Definitely plan to return, and try other items on the menu. Recommend? Yes

Social Chicken

Walked in at 730pm wasnt a lot of people on a Thursday night wasnt packed. My server Kandace was great s/o to her. She made both of my drinks and they were on point. The social Espresso was probably the best espresso martini I ever had!!! The strawberry Hennessy she made and recommended was good but really is a summer drink by the pool or cookout but 3 of them things you going to sleep. The sushi was amazing loved it 9.1/10 and for it being in Pittsburgh was fantastic!! Now, the social chicken was not my favorite at all was really disappointing,it was more sauce than chicken. The chicken was itty bitty bites that was just deep fried for way too long. And had a bland taste to it. The rice that came with it was overcooked. It did come out 3 mins after i ordered so w was wondering if someone ordered it sent that one back and gave it to me. The social chicken was probably the worst meal i had in a while but I took it on the chin didn't complain because our server was great. Also, whoever was the manager seemed like she was in a rush to get everyone out of there going to table to table asking if anyone else was still ordering food and drinks it was 830pm they close at 10pm was odd. Hope everyone was ok though. All in all probably wont be going back. 101.93 bucks after 20% tip of course s/onto Kandace

Pretty cool vibe but it was a let down that it was dead on a Friday at 6:30. The food was just ok to good. Nothing was bad, it just didn't stand out or impress. We had the Short Rib Yaku, Honey Chicken, Pad Thai and Miso Salmon. Portions were quite small too.

A friend chose Social House Seven as the restaurant to host her birthday dinner. We made a reservation in advance for a large party, 10+, and were seated quickly upon arrival. Our waitress was friendly and did her best to check in on us, despite the high volume of customers at the restaurant. I ordered the pad thai and my boyfriend ordered one of the sushi rolls. I heard some mixed reviews on the dishes around our table, but I loved my plate. My only complaint was that it was about $17 with no meat added. It was delicious, though, and I was pleasantly surprised at the volume of edamame that bumped up the protein for me a little. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with sculptures, dim and colorful lighting, and plenty of tables. The bathroom was much the same, clean and organized. For large parties, gratuity seemed to have been added in advance, even though we were all able to split the bill and pay as couples or individually. This wasn't clear to some of our group members who inadvertently double tipped and weren't too happy about it. I had been hoping to make it here for quite some time and I'm glad that I finally had the opportunity.

Most beautiful restaurant in Pittsburgh with the most attentive waiter, Mike. He was observant, quick, and made our experience lovely. Our favorites were the Fire Dragon Chicken, the Lettuce Wraps, and our MVP was the Broccoli Classy, yet an emphasis on shareables making it a beautiful, down to earth experience. Perfect for date nights or impressing visiting family & friends. Criticisms: The pork belly skewers were fatty. But the parts with meat were lovely. The short rib yaki had a bit too much mayonnaise-based sauce(YumYum?) Nonetheless the experience was lovely and I will be back.

Final update: went last night with a group of friends. This is the last time I will ever go here and steer friends away. The service was so horrible and if the food was amazing/outstanding I could forgive bad service. The waitress took the orders and then forgot to get orders from half of the table we had to chase her down to put them in. The food comes out randomly and sushi will take the longest and will always be last. We ordered drinks it was over an hour before we got drinks we finally just started going over to the bar to get drinks. This place needs change and training or hire more staff it's so bad. They are trying to be like nobo but they will never the food is not worth it or the service

Social house has always been one of those spots where you feel you're no longer in Pittsburgh. The mood is set from the moment you walk in and all the way through your meal. Amazing lychee martini & i absolutely always get the short rib yaki. I've enjoyed many meals through the years here and I am sure there will be more to come! Thank you for the great service during our meal!

Fried Tofu (on a bed of stale rice surrounded by RAW veggies)
Kris K.

Social House Seven might be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in all of Pittsburgh. And that's not hyperbole. When you approach a price tag of $100 / person, you really should get a whole lot more. First let's say every item we ordered was bad. Really bad. Sushi / maki - super fishy, and had the integrity of something rolled by a toddler. The broccoli - pre-made frozen mush that went into a fryer The shrimp - overcooked to tire-like texture, and it was never de-veined. The tofu - about the only thing on the menu that tasted half-way decent, but all the vegetable garnish around it was RAW. Like raw brussell sprouts. WTH? And the Yaki wasn't yaki soba at all. It was more like lo mein, AND the noodles were cut. That might just be a big deal to me, but it really is disappointing because it tells me they were probably dried noodles rather than fresh. And then there's the service. Our waitress started out ok, but when it was clear 80% of the food on our table was untouched, she didn't once ask what happened or ask why we didn't eat it. She just brought the check and never cleared the table. I had to ask her to clear the table so we could at least enjoy our sake. She was absolutely oblivious and had zero interest in actually understanding what was on the menu when we asked for recommendations. Or maybe, she already knew the food was going to be terrible and has been trained not to say anything. Really just a super disappointing experience. If you have expectations for at least a half-way decent Asian meal, look elsewhere. Sadly Gi-Jin was all booked up or we would have gone there.

Great service, cool atmosphere, and delicious food. We enjoyed pan-fried Gyoza, Fried Tofu, Firecracker shrimp, and the Spicy Tuna and Tempura Shrimp rolls. Our favorites were the shrimp and the fried tofu. Definitely recommend you stop if you are in downtown Pittsburgh.

I've been generally impressed by the quality of the sushi. We ordered takeout this time, and everything was extremely well packaged and presented. In terms of the food, we focussed on fairly standard maki rolls: a spicy salmon roll and a spicy California roll. Both were very nicely done. We also tried the veg farm roll, and that was a nice vegetable forward option. Not life changing, but nicely done. We also opted for a vegetable poke bowl, and that was also good. Basically the same combination of vegetables as the veg farm roll, but in a bowl format. The bowl was good, but it was lacking some sort of sauce or glaze that might have pulled things together. It was easy enough to toss on some condiments of our own, but the bowl could have been better. Overall, I this is my favorite sushi destination in Squirrel Hill. It's very clear that the owners are invested in turning out a high quality experience, and that's exactly the type of business I like to support.

I got the tonkatsu ramen with chashou pork. It was amazing and delicious. The meat was the most tender and thin sliced pork I've ever had in a ramen! Egg was flavorful, noodles were nice and chewy and I appreciated the bamboo pieces and woodear. BF ordered the Pink lady roll which was only 6 slices and it was $16. Not impressed that their specialty rolls don't auto include a miso soup or ginger salad. He ordered their ginger citrus iceberg salad for $3. Our server, Hannah, was great! She was quick, friendly and brought us 2 mini ice creams for free! Even though we didn't order rice or fried appetizers, we were given a trio of dipping sauces. The sesame yum yum sauce was so good!

Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!

The energy is good vibes only and the most important rule is no complaints. It is only joy and a shared experience of trying things you wouldn't normally splurge on. If you break the rule, you don't get invited back! On this particular night, I was 2 months postpartum and naturally ready to eat and drink all things sinful during pregnancy. Having 2 kids at home and a dutiful dad to watch them, I did not do the responsible thing, make a reservation weeks in advance. I highly recommend that you do this for this high end and highly sought sushi experience. I managed to get lucky and snag my group a 4:00 pm table for 4. I'm sure what you are thinking is that is incredibly too early to eat, but look at it this way - 2 of us have small children and truthfully eating fancy food while our husbands put the kids to bed and making it home just in time to snuggle up and watch tv ended up being absolutely perfect. First, the view is insane. You are perched atop a mountain overlooking 3 rivers converging. It's gorgeous. You will take a picture. Second, the service is outstanding. I've actually been twice this year just to confirm my first experience wasn't a fluke. Extremely attentive staff who make you believe they want you to have the best culinary experience possible, maybe they actually do! We ordered nearly everything on the menu. My favorite dish is the yellowtail jalapeno. It is unreal good. I also tried uni, which was very unique. Probably not something I need to indulge in every time, but still very cool. Our group enjoyed sharing all of our plates with each other. I left feeling so satisfied. It is an understatement to say that Otaru is excellent. We talked about this place for months afterward, with longing. It is definitely one of the best places to take guests from out of town to show them the finer side of Pittsburgh. It was shockingly not busy until about 630pm and they open at 4. There is no valet, just street parking. They provided complimentary edamame which had a great little spicy kick. I ordered the sour, the yuzu gave it a nice fresh citrus taste. My husband had a scotch and Coke. We decided to order the experience which began with a tartar (salmon, tuna and yellowtail on a bed of tuna). Amazing. We then had a two piece sashimi with jalapeño and crispy potato in a sauce that was similar to Italian dressing. This was our favorite of the entire night. Next was a shrimp tasting. It had shaved cucumber and seaweed in a light brown sauce, perhaps a mirin. It was okay, like a cold miso. We then had a dish I had only seen videos of called Chawanmushi. It was like an eggy flan served hot. My husband was not a fan but I was. Then was the first nigiri which the bartender was kind enough to split for us. It included 4 light pieces of sushi. After that there was a cold infused tomato palate cleanser and the second nigiri with "darker" fish. It was all delicious. After that was a fatty tuna hand roll (like a sushi taco) which was amazing as well. And last for the savory items, a soft shell crab which was very, very good. The yellow sauce tasted like the yellow of a potato salad with tastes that mimicked mayo, mustard and pickles. We ordered another round of drinks and I had a dirty martini which they called The New 32. The last item is the red bean dessert but we opted to order more food and had the Treasure Box ($78) which had 9 different sashimis. There were a few repeats from the experience portion but we were happy to have the first sashimi item again. And last, we had the red bean dessert as well as a complimentary tiramisu dessert for the husband's birthday. The bill was just over $300 which was expected for the location, amount of food and overall quality and experience.
