    HH oysters
    Tiffany H.

My review is based solely on the oysters. I tried the happy hour oysters (Wednesday to Saturday, 3-5 PM) for $1 each, which is definitely a great deal. Service was great, as they shucked our dozen oysters quickly, but I was a bit disappointed with the quality. There was little to no oyster liquor, and all the oysters weren't shucked properly, meaning they were still attached to the adductor muscle, which made them hard to slurp off the shell. Many also had broken shell pieces that I ended up having to spit out. I'd be interested in trying their other sushi/fish menu items next time. I think it is cool that the place doubles as a both a fish market and restaurant.

Came for their restaurant week menu. I've been here before and it was completely sit down and a server took your order but now it's order at the window, server brings you your food, then you go back to the window to pay. Was everything tasty? Yes. Did the meal feel worth $62 post tax + tip? No, not really considering the portion size.

The service was really quick, and the food was delicious! I appreciated the variety of seafood options on the menu - there was something for everyone. We ordered rolls, sandwiches, and a bowl, so it was quite varied. The atmosphere isn't particularly special.

Fish store and sushi restaurant in one? Yes please! I love to purchase my fish and seafood here because it's so fresh. And that really shows in their sushi restaurant. Some of the best Pittsburgh sushi! I loveee their specialty rolls. Really classic and delicious sushi!

Some of my favorite sushi in Pittsburgh! It's always consistent for me and I love the people that work there. Always so friendly!

    Sushi Special

I tried the Sushi Special and this is all I got for $30. Considering the price tag, the food itself was underwhelming. None of it stood out as particularly tasty, so I can't see myself coming back again

Best place in Pittsburgh for all your seafood needs. The fishmongers are the best, they always have fresh quality seafood and it's a great lunch or brunch spot. It's my favorite place for seafood. Angela and Henry you guys are the best!

This is a hidden gem! We went during the oyster happy hour and were very impressed. The oysters were so fresh and flavorful, and $1 each! The sushi rolls...holy moley! The Benny, Sexy Señorita, and Rockin' rolls were amazing. Highly recommend! 10/10

    Fish tacos (2)

Went there recently with a friend for lunch and really enjoyed it. We both got fish tacos - me: soft corn; her - hard corn. The fish mix was salmon, tuna, & swordfish, and HALLELUJAH, it wasn't breaded & deep fried! The flavors were quite good, including the crema and slaw. The woman at the register where you order (near the front door) warned us the salsa on the tacos was "a bit spicy," but I didn't get that at all. My friend really enjoyed her soup - a strange-sounding crab pumpkin soup. ‍ Great, energetic atmosphere but not loud - order, find your table, they bring you your food, THEN you pay. Odd, but fine. Sounds like they get a lot of large parties. The seafood can be purchased like a regular fish market, though it is eye-popping expensive. The lunch food seemed pretty reasonably priced, though. Definitely want to return and try the sushi.

I'm already wanting to come back here!!! The quality and the freshness of the fish here is unreal. I got a spicy salmon roll, and the pieces of salmon they put in there were HUGE! Such a generous piece of fish!! I also got the crazy tuna roll and sexy senortia (I loved the cilantro in here, definitely a unique touch and gave it a very refreshing flavor). The shrimp cocktail was so so so fresh and delicious. The rolls also came out super fast which was very nice! Penn Ave fish Company also has a fish market where you can buy sushi grade fish to bring home and make yourself!

Came on a Tuesday over holiday break for the advertised "endless taco Tuesday" (all you can eat for $16). Counter service was a bit awkward for the concept as you wait in line each time you re-order. My table got cleaned when I got up to reorder and extra sauces saved were gone. But the food... Great value. Fish was fresh and nice heat. Slaw was creamy and soft shells charred nicely. Lacked a little salt and hard shells simply out of box. Some lime juice would really brighten it up. Overall good experience. Staff super friendly

I came to this place because I had good reviews and everyone said I had good sushi which I was hesitant. So I went with fish of the day which was recommended and then as I walked around, I saw the soups that looked delicious and then all the fresh fish. I circled back and ordered sushi as well. The staff was very friendly very nice. When you come in you order and then you pay at the end which is crazy because coming from California, they don't do that. They check on you and then they come clean up after you and then you pay at the end. I definitely would come back. Food was good. Service was good fish was fresh. There was so many things I wanted to try. I was writing a bike around town so I didn't know where to park it because it was a city bike and they let me bring it in and watched it for me. I understand why it's rated so high.

Poke bowl. Flavorful but mostly salad and not a lot of fish.

I wanted to love it here. I've heard so many phenomenal things. The biggest thing for me is that I was treated pretty rudely. I walked in and walked over to the seating side. I hear an almost screaming "you need to order at the counter and it will be brought to you." Could have said it nicely. But then a couple walked in a few minutes after I did, were directed to a table, handed menus and there order was taken at the table, not the counter. So apparently they choose who is worthy of table service? A friend raved about their soups, specifically a watermelon gazpacho so I asked what today's soups were. The girl at the counter rudely said "I don't know, you can just look for yourself right over there." Which, again, could have been said kindly. Once seated, I saw her bring water to all the other tables when they sat. I asked if I could have water and she said "there is bottled water in the cooler". I said could I just get the cup of water like the others and she said "ugh I guess so." I ordered a poke bowl and served myself to a gazpacho. The poke bowl arrived quickly and was a nice size. I just wish there was more rice and fish (it was mostly lettuce). That being said the fish tasted fresh and the sauce that they use is full of flavor. If it wasn't for the rudeness of the staff (towards me but seemingly no one else) I would have given it four stars. There is zero excuse to treat one patron completely differently then the others.

What COVID policies does this restaurant follow?

They are taking precautions & have some outdoor seating near the front entrance. I was in the Strip last weekend and observed this.

We had one issue with green curry, being too spicy despite being order at a level 3. We decided we would order another entree since they weren't willing to replace it. . After a 10-minute wait to be seated and an additional 30 minutes before our drink orders were taken, we encountered an issue with the billing. The service and management response were deeply concerning Our party of four was charged an automatic 18% gratuity, which was not disclosed on the menu. When we requested that the gratuity be removed so we could pay it in cash instead, the manager's response was unprofessional and offensive. He suggested that we should "save room for the gratuity" or "take our food to go" in the future, falsely implying that we were unwilling to pay our bill. He only apologized after he realized we still were leaving a tip just in cash. I paid and left quickly this was very embarrassing and like nothing I've ever experienced. Which was so unfortunate because I was looking forward to returning with my father. We also traveled from outside the city to dine here. We never contested the quality of the food or the hard work of the staff; we simply requested a change in the method of payment for the tip. I found the manager's hostile tone and remarks to be racially charged, and I believe we were treated this way because we are African-American. I will never returned to this establishment. I urge all patrons to be aware,of how nasty your experience can turn if you decide to question gratuity charges. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these transparency and conduct issues with your management team. I also decided to add a picture of the manager who spoke with our table.
